I had a very poor experience with Total Grand Rental. They rented me a broken woodchipper, and then refused to provide a refund They charged me a $350 rental fee for broken equipment, which I had returned within an hour. I had been a loyal customer for nearly nine years. Over this time, I have rented various pieces of equipment, such as floor sanders and excavators, and purchased tools including axes and a chainsaw. On this occasion, I rented a six-inch wood chipper. The chipper was unable to grind even small branches under two inches in diameter, which indicates significant mechanical issues. Upon discovering this problem, I immediately contacted their staff. I was instructed to return the equipment and assured that I would be "taken care of." Upon returning the chipper within an hour of receiving it, I was informed that the only other chipper available was also inoperable, making it impossible for me to complete the work as planned. The next day, I spoke with Brian, the owner. He informed me that he would not provide a refund for the rental. The fine print on their contract indemnified them from any liability. Equipment issues may occur from time to time, but a reputable business takes accountability and seeks to make things right for its customers. Don't waste your time. We rented a lift from this company 2x and both times their equipment needed to be returned. The first lift we rented was leaking hydraulic fluid (at the jobsite) which we needed to clean and our guy got stuck with the lift in the air. Finally, we were able to get it down. The 2nd time we rented a lift (about a month later) the controls in the bucket would not work. We should've known when the mechanic stated they have repaired this lift 6 times. We called to let them know we would be returning, however, they wouldn't refund the charge. Apparently, we were supposed to stop everything that day and return it to them right after we spoke with them. They used to be Total Grand Rental. They have no pride in their work or business. This place does not deserve the single star rating. Over the course of 3 days they rented out 3 machines to me. The first was broken and when I called and let them know, they confirmed that specific machine breaks frequently and I need to load up a 150 pound machine and bring it back to them for exchange. The broken machine was exchanged for a machine that was not proper for the job so another exchange was made and that machine broke before the 3 day rental contract had expired. When ownership was approached to resolve this issue, I was told that I should know without being told that all machines require daily maintenance at the rental shop. Ownership was hostile, angry and yelling at me and refusing to "talk about the past." I demanded at least a partial refund of my money and was told after much grumbling that I would be credited one day. I agreed to that and then another charge from this company was applied to my card without my consent. I called again and ownership told me that the third machine that was rented is much more expensive than the original machine that was noted on my original signed invoice. I am absolutely outraged by this swindler! This business is ran by a foul tempered crook!! Do not give them your credit card info or rent out any of their broken down machinery. read more

I've been renting equipment from TGR for 13 years and have always had excellent service. The equipment has consistently been in good repair, customer service has always been good and their prices are the best in town. However, I had a situation this week where a breakdown in communication cost me $400 more than I expected. This probably happened because I switched equipment type and rental duration midstream and was accidentally quoted the wrong weekly rate. Although I wasn't happy with the way the manager, Brian, handled the situation, I'm not one to let one bad experience overshadow 13 years if good experiences. My only real complaint is that the manager failed to accept any responsibility for the miscommunication and I had to bear the full brunt of the error. Nevertheless, as far as I'm concerned, TGR is still the best choice for rental equipment in Flagstaff. read more

I rented a garden tractor from these guys. I chose them for two reasons: First, this was the only tractor I could find this size which rented with a gannon. The second was (what I thought) was the fantastic rental rate - unfortunately, this was their 3 hour rate - not the daily rate -but that's on me. As it turns out, they charge what everyone else charges - and then some. When you rent a heavier piece of equipment like this, you normally get a trailer with it. Just look at Home Depot, Lowes, or any of the companies that specialize in heavy rental. These guys require you to rent the trailer from them - at about $115 per day additional cost. Another difference between other rental yards and these guys is the fact your 24 hour daily rental only allows you 8 hours on the Hobbs meter. So you get the tractor for a day, but you can only actually run the machine for 8 hours. Also - they charge a "Damage Waiver" fee of $116. It's non refundable, even if you did no damage. Finally, they also charge you up front for 5 gallons of diesel fuel at almost $7 per gallon. They refund you if you bring it back full, but other locations normally only charge you if you bring the equipment back without topping it off. Overall, my experience with these guys felt like they were doing everything they could to nickel and dime me to death. And here's my last observation - one that is obviously purely subjective: I was treated rudely by both employees I dealt with. It felt like they couldn't care less what kind of experience you had or if they earned your future business. The guy who initially rented the tractor to me got so miffed when I questioned the daily rental rate that I literally had to tell him to calm down - it's not worth getting angry. Then he demanded to know where I was taking the tractor? When I asked what difference that makes, he let me know the owners are letting me take a $40,000 piece of equipment and if I steal it, they want to know where to tell the police to start looking. He didn't have much of an answer when I responded, "So if I was going to steal it, you think I'd tell you where I'm taking it?" When I brought it back and didn't get the "Damage Waiver" refunded, some other guy behind the counter talked to me like I was ignorant for expecting a refund since I did no damage. It's like they know deep down they are ripping people off and are ashamed of it - but have to act like you're the idiot and are expecting special treatment. Lesson learned. I won't rent from them again. read more

I can't be less happy about my experience here. That said, the gentleman that rented me the tool was very helpful and very quick... after a quick tool check I was out the door. Once I tore in to my first bag of self-leveling concrete I was in for the duration. About 30 seconds in to mixing, the drill chuck fell off. Upon inspection a crucial screw was missing. My job did not allow me to make a trip back to get a new tool, I had to limp my old 1/2" drill along and after 3 hours I returned the broken drill to the store and they actually told me; "Sorry, there's nothing we can do". read more

BEWARE!!! Check your bill... Get your quote in writing prior to picking up your rental. We rented a tractor for 24 hours (one day) with a total of 8 hours to be logged on the machine. The tractor broke down after 5 hours.. When we took it back, the "owner" gave us a replacement and said that we could log our remaining 3 hours on the new machine. When we returned that machine, we were charged for two full days of tractor rental. $500!! Also, make sure you fill your tractor (or machine) back up. We returned the tractor and heard the technician tell the "owner" that he put .8 gallons in the tank. We were charged for 5 gallons of diesel. When we questioned all the overages and reminded the "owner" of our conversations the day prior he feigned amnesia. DANGER, DANGER, DANGER!! If you have an alternative, DO NOT USE! Do not rent from Total Grand Rental-Party in Flagstaff. They rent everything from backhoes to wedding things...should've been the first clue. Their customer service stinks and they will not refund any of your deposit if your plans change. They were not clear about what all was needed for the dance floor without a lot of inquiry. They are supposed to be the experts and advise the customer, but it was difficult to find out exactly what was needed. Then they added charges such as additional fees for not being able to return things the next day because THEY were closed. The manager told me that wasn't true, but we wouldn't have know about that fee had they not charged us. He said my son lied about that! We were having trouble finding a local place and then a different wedding party said they would leave their dance floor and tables for us. It only made sense for us to use the other floor. Our reservation had only been placed 1 week and 2 days prior and the wedding wasn't for another month, so they lost nothing. I can understand a partial refund but no refund at all! We lost $407 to these jerks. They do not care about their customers at all!! Rating should really be -5. read more
