    Covenant Group Excavating

We first started working with this contractor in November, 2022. Services were to include installation of water and electric lines, septic system, footings, stem wall, and final grading. The company required $21,000.00 dollars to start the project which we promptly paid on June 12, 2023 and they cashed on June 20, 2023. We expected work to begin after remitting such a large amount of money, but we were consistently put off time and time again or received no communication from Covenant Group Excavating in spite of our many attempts to contact them. Footings were finally dug on June 27th, but those trenches were left open for months endangering my small grandchildren and livestock that also live on the property. After many attempts to get the footings and stem wall completed, I had to hire another contractor to do this work as Covenant Group Excavating essentially abandoned the job. I also ended up digging and installing the water and electric lines, runners, and grading around the home myself. I ended up still needing the septic system to be done, and Covenant Group assured me that they would do that. Opting to let them complete the septic system after all of disappointments and "no shows" is a decision I greatly regret. Again, the tank hole and trenches were dug and left open for several weeks before the installation of the tank and septic lines were completed in late October only after threatening to contact the ROC to file a complaint of abandonment. The entire job was bid at $49K. The only items completed by Covenant Group were digging the home footings and installing the septic system. Given that we already had remitted $21K to them, we expected to get a large sum of our money returned. The owner of Covenant Group assured me that I would get money back, but never really indicated how much. I requested on multiple occasions an itemized cost for the septic installation, but never received one. After much discussion with the owner of Covenant Group, he agreed to repay only around $8K meaning he charged around 13K for the limited services his company completed. There is no way I would have agreed on this price in the first place, but I felt I was backed into a corner and had to try and recoup some of the money they had taken. The owner of Covent Group drafted an agreement to repay $1,000.00 per month to get the $8K reimbursement paid. We received the first payment on 3/20/2024 and the final payment in September of 2024. In short, I advise you to find another contractor if you should need such services. The mental anguish and financial hardship we experienced was and still is very taxing for us. This owner of Covenant Group Excavating used $21, 000.00 of our money for over a year to finance his own interests while we received nothing in return for this use of our money. I had to hire other contractors for needed services and ended up doing a great deal of the work myself. We also ended up paying far to much for very poor work, lack of communication, and disregard for the safety of individuals living on our property.
