The salon is absolutely gorgeous with a modern, minimalist decor. She thought through every detail of the salon with perfect stations that are elegant with storage and retail cabinets for each stylist, a shampoo bowl for each stylist and a comfortable waiting area. She also has three treatment rooms that provide a variety of services. It seemed like she was unhappy from the moment I arrived. Marilo then told me that I booked the wrong service and said I needed a color correction instead of the all-over color I requested. I said that's fine, and asked for dark brown, but we ended up disagreeing because she wanted to dye my hair black. My hair is dark brown, not black. When I asked how we could achieve the brown color I wanted, she said I needed to highlight my entire head, which confused me and made me feel like she was trying to charge me more. It wasn't just this conversation that was off-putting; it was the entire interaction; she was abrasive and extremely rude. Not just "direct" like some people have mentioned in reviews, Direct I can handle, this was inappropriate and very odd. I was just in complete disbelief, that she would talk to me this way. During the conversation, she kept interrupting me and wouldn't let me speak, which I found really frustrating and rude. I don't feel comfortable having someone with this kind of attitude work on my hair, so I left. Unfortunately, I did not do my due diligence beforehand, but other people have expressed these same issues, isn't the point to get more clients instead of driving them away with complete lack of tact? Personally, I go to Danda because I think she does a fantastic job, and I'm always happy with the end result--for both my hair and my beard. It's a great experience all around. My son and I have been using this studio for years, and it's a great place to see the difference between whatever you get at Fantastic Sam's versus what an actual hair studio can be when it comes to getting a hair and beard trim, especially as a male. I didn't realize the difference before, but now I do, and I'd never have it any other way. Also, hot towels. I love hot towels. They have hot towels--and yes, a lot of places have them--but the way Modern Man uses them makes the experience that much better. And unlike some other male-oriented salons, they don't do the awkward neck massage with a little vibrating massager that's supposed to make a difference. It doesn't. The only difference it makes is increasing the chance I'll never return to that place. Modern Man has the formula down.
