We tried this place today for lunch. Prices are good and the sandwiches are big. The papaya shake was good as well as the tres leche dessert. They serve a variety of sandwiches. The staff is friendly. The place is small, clean, has a bathroom for customers and a few outdoor seating with tables. There is plenty of street parking. They also have a location in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic which I hope to try one day! read more

Sandwiches are delicious! Got the dominicano and the tostado club. The dominicano comes with wavy fries which were not greasy and perfectly crispy. The sandwiches were flavorful, filling, and yummy. Also tried a mango smoothie, which could've used a bit more mango but was still refreshing and not too sweet as I prefer. Took off 1 star due to customer service, they weren't the friendliest. After 7 years, Tostados is STILL my Personal Favorite sandwich spot! If you're in the roslindale area near The Forest Hills train station I definitely recommend you stop by this food place. I saw this place on one of my lovely drives home from the Dedham mall. I popped in for a menu and the owner was freshly out - he handed me a card and told me to come back later. But before I left I took a glance at their brief, but appetizing menu - written in chalk on the wall - and knew I had to get a Cubano. That night. And being that Tostado delivers, I couldn't ask for any more joy than to savor a delicious Cuban in my own home. The meat is bad, the sauces (mostly ketchup) are bad, the cheese is...well, its hard to ruin cheese, but you get the idea. Ordered pickup from here, roommates and I got 3 different things, and each hated our own as well as one another's. The meat smelled like something really really funky and the vegetarian sandwich, which only had tomatoes, onions, and cheese in it, was so full of ketchup you could barely taste anything else. Tostado is sadly neglected on the other, less popular, side of forrest hills I discovered it whilst biking to roslindale and was lured in by the Fresh fruit smoothies sign. Unfortunately, they do not take credit cards and I had no cash. However, I returned today and their smoothie was awesome. I got a mango one, and my friend got a guava one. MUCH better smoothies than other places in JP. Very creamy, thick, REAL fruit. I have not had their sandwiches yet, as their vegetarian selection is pretty much nill (somewhat expected per the fare). Perhaps the best cuban sandwich I have ever had, and I get them a lot, in a lot of different cities. The roasted pork was delicious. I asked them to add mayo and hot sauce to mine. Yum! The woman behind the counter was really friendly. I tried to phone in the order because I was walking home from Roslindale Village, thought I would time it to pick up lunch as I was walking by... but no go, they didn't actually start making my food until I got there and paid. Maybe that's their policy. I will still go back and wait the 15 minutes outside with the rooster even if this is the case, because the sandwiches are damn good. The sandwiches are good, and the prices typical for the area, and all in all it's a good concept (which is why it is franchised all over the damn place), but... my god, you guys have to move faster. I am not looking for McDonald's speed. I'm reasonable about the tradeoff between made-to-order quality and time. But well over 20 minutes after my order, when there's not another customer in the place, there should be either signs of my food coming, or some acknowledgment that it's taking too long. The business here is essentially take-out (though there are a few tables), mostly sandwiches, generally a lunch place. In other words, people are going to stop in while in the middle of their day, not when they want to relax over dinner. This fact has not sunk in at Tostado. For me to give a sandwich place 4 stars means it is far above your typical sandwich fare. By definition a takeout sandwich place should never get above 3 stars, but this place is amazing and I cannot stop singing its praises. Interestingly not only does this place that make amazing Cuban sandwiches, it doubles as a used car lot. That's right you can see their used car dealer license next to their health and safety certificate to the right of their spotlessly clean counters which are overflowing with fresh oranges and papayas. They use these fresh oranges and papayas to make several amazing fresh juice drinks to compliment their menu of Cuban sandwiches. The Sandwiches are amazing, they are a taste explosion of delicious meats and ingredients prepared quickly to satiate your overwhelming desire for hot pressed meat. If you come here you had better be in the mood for a Cuban sandwich though, they have about 12 varieties of sandwich on the menu, but aside from sandwiches and fresh juice there isn't much else to get. I really like this place and I plan on going back quite a bit more this summer once the weather is nice so I can take advantage of their outdoor seating. read more

When you walk in you see the sad shell of what was once a proud establishment. The walls are caked in dirt, the paint is chipped and dilapidated. Most of the displays look empty for ages. The ice cream unit looks like its being used for storage. Where there were once fresh pastries are now old candy bars. With this in mind, i wasn't expecting much, but i was VERY pleasantly surprised to see the sandwich was actually quit vibrant and lively. Quality of the sandwich was surprisingly better than i expected. It was a good turn of events because by the look of this place they seem on their last leg. Would I go back? probably not. Tostado is such a great little shop. It's located within walking distance of Forest Hills and there's also lots of street parking. There isn't any indoor seating, but they do have a counter where you can stand and eat plus two tables outside. Everyone behind the counter that I've come in contact with is super friendly. Yes, their English is limited, but since the menus have everything in English & Spanish, I've never had an issue. I haven't had anything there that I didn't love. For sandwiches, I've had the swiss chicken, ham w/ Dominican cheese, Cubano... For smoothies, I've had almost all, but my favorite is by far the soursop.. Each sip is like being back in Trinidad :-) The ONLY downside is that they are cash only. read more

We literally just ordered from this place today for the first time (delivery to J.P.) and we went for 2 sandwiches to split - the Tostado Club and the Cuban. I also ordered a strawberry smoothie but then changed my mind at the last second on the phone and asked the lady to take the smoothie off the order. 40mins later the delivery guy shows up with sandwiches AND smoothie in hand! My boyfriend explained that we didn't order the smoothie and before he could even finish his sentence the kindly delivery guy said "no problem! I give it to you anyway!". No argument. Awesome. Coolest dude ever. The club sandwich was jam-packed with tender meat, melted cheese, toasted bread and just the right amount of ketchup and mayo to give it the moisture it needed. Man was that thing filling. I couldn't get through half of it. I personally did not like the Cuban as I found it to be really dry, BUT...I have never had a Cuban sandwich before and, honestly, I like my veggies to outweigh my meat when it comes to sandwiches, so even the most delectable Cuban sandwich on the planet would probably not be an absolute favorite of mine. So, it's not you, Cuban, it's me. In the end it worked out because my boyfriend enjoyed the Cuban and I loved the Club so we were both satisfied. And we were fighting over the strawberry smoothie - sooooooo good! I guess I just wish i loved meat more. A loaded chicken, pork and ham club is more than my tummy can comfortably take...but that's a compliment to Tostado. This business just lost a lot of business since I live nearby and all due to terrible service. They messed up my order and when I tried to correct them, the cashier was very rude and gave me THE biggest attitude ever. They take too damn long to make the food and are overpriced. Stumbled upon this gem while biking out of the Southwest Corridor bike path. Was bustling with people and the sandwiches looked good so decided to try it. Its a small shack and sells about 10 sandwich varieties, picked the Caribbean Chicken which is the shredded chicken, green tomato, onion and ketchup. Very tasty and they give it to you in this cute pickle-shaped green tray. My only misgiving is the service, I had to wait 10 minutes before I could make my order and they do not seem to be strong in their English. Then again most of the clientele were Hispanics. In fact, I was on my way to meet someone in downtown Boston for lunch, and was taking the subway, but when I smelled the great aroma coming out of this place it drew me in --- like Wimpy to a hamburger. Great cuban sandwiches, and variations thereon. My boyfriend wants them to have more options but I like that they do one thing and do it well. Not a great location - no foot traffic on the far side of Forest Hills, but it's worth biking or driving over there. Or getting delivery. Smoothies are also great. When we first moved to the area last year, we spent a few weeks painting and doing work on the house. So we ate a lot of takeout, and must have gone here 6 or 7 times. The owner was super nice, made us smoothies while we waited, chatted with us. Can be a bit slow, because they are making each sandwich to order, so call ahead if you think of it. I went to Tostado Sandwich Bar (center st.) on Saturday 8/8/10 after ordering over the phone 2 dominican sandwich. The lady on the phone said they be ready in 10min. So I decided to give them an extra 5 min and then went to pick them up in 15min. Went I got there my 2 sandwich and 2 batidas were not ready. The lady said they will be right out, but she was wrong. I ended up waiting 30min when I had already call. This is ridiculous amoung of time to wait for sandwich. Never going there again. Went I got my sandwich I hated it. The cheese didn't melt.
