The burrito came out in less than five minutes. The rice was well-salted and flavorful, the plantains added a surprising sweetness, and the chicharrones were satisfyingly crispy. The pico de gallo tasted extra fresh, and the tomato salsa had that slight grit you only find in freshly made versions. This burrito was also loaded--I was full after finishing it. One small nitpick: I would have preferred a pressed tortilla for a bit more heat and structure. About halfway through my burrito, the yuca fries arrived. They came topped with shredded lettuce and more of that fresh tomato salsa. The portion was generous here as well. None of that "five sticks of yuca for $10 at the upscale Latin American place" nonsense. This is twice now that I get food from Achilitos and both times were as delicious. The first time I ordered a surf and turf bowl with plantains and all the standard toppings along with chipotle mayo. I found that the serving size was great especially for the price and all the flavors came together perfectly. The steak was cooked well and had a generous amount, the cilantro rice (excellent choice) did not have too much of a cilantro flavor but it is green so I'm thinking they add some to it. Everything tasted fresh. I think what makes the bowl so good is the sauces on top. The blend between sour cream and the chipotle mayo made the food creamier. The second time I ordered a chicken bowl with the same toppings and sauces. This time I paid a little more attention to the taste of each ingredient and individually they are fresh and good but together they also work well. The chicken was tender and a good amount given (maybe a little over half a cup). The chipotle mayo has a Smokey flavor like paprika which I normally wouldn't like, but again it works here. I'm excited to continue to try more items on their menu.
