Jerk Sandwich
Xenia M.

Loved my experience at Toss't and Press't. Had this on my bookmarks for a while and finally tried it this weekend! I got the jerk chicken sandwich. You can tell the jerk is made fresh on the grill. They serve it on coco bread which was perfect. I also recommend the soursop juice -- this was delicious! Wish they had more options for seating though.

Oxtail & Salmon Rasta pasta
Rich S.

The Rasta pasta was delicious. The penne pasta was cooked al dente, the flavor was well balanced so it felt healthy while at the same time flavor in every bite. The salmon very flavorful , tender and not overly seasoned. I would definetly give the salmon a 10/10 nicely well balanced between the seasoning and herbs. Portion size was not huge but it definetly was filling giving you that sense of fulfillment without being overly stuffed. The fish Pattie was definetly a nice new experience. You get a bite of fish in every bite. The crust had a flakey but soft texture so you wasn't bombarded with flakes all over your clothes but still got the crunch you expected. The flavor of the Pattie was smooth, tasty, and you almost wouldn't beable to tell it apart from a beef Pattie having this option for non carnivore eaters was a great idea. The blue Nile lemonade was refreshing. It gave u that taste of ginger, definetly wasn't overly sweet like your typical lemonade. Oatmeal cookie was soft and not overly packed with raisins and rich. The oxtail was very tender, the meat literally fell off the bone. There was a bit of sweetness that went well with either rice or the Rasta Pasta. The balance was perfect. The toppings is very interesting, they had an assortment of options to choose from, the jerk sauce definetly not spicy but it was very good, the mango salsa was also tasty but sells out fast. Nana pudding was nicely portioned, it was excellent. The desert wasn't to sweet but made your pallet feel rewarded for all its hard work. The softness and whipped smooth texture made it a great dessert you can enjoy in any season whether it's hot or cold outside. The cookie still retained its crunch while the part submerged was soft making it suitable for any age. Little pieces of banana at the bottom and mixed in gave it a nice texture. The ambience was nice and welcoming, a-little small on the inside but the space was accommodating for what you needed. The service was lovely. People is lovely and sweet.

mushroom quinoa bowl

I really wanted to put in a great review for this establishment, but the customer service desperately needs room for improvement. There is a lot going on in such a small eatery with the lack of employees being assigned to their roles. People are waiting to be cashed out, others are waiting to be served. Delivery couriers are waiting to pick up orders and ultimately, the running of the business is unorganized. No one is moving with the slightest sense of urgency, some are unaware of what "vegan" means (even though it's listed on their menu) and there's a lot of verbiage on the menu in-store. Nothing is clear and easy for the customer to follow through. And as a first time customer, the operation of the eatery was all over the place. I asked the employee that was serving me if the coco bread sandwich is vegan friendly. She didn't understand what that mean't. I asked if it's made with dairy products. She goes on to say it's white bread. The information given didn't help me, so I asked which of the bowls is vegan friendly: the rice bowl or the pasta bowl? She mentioned it depends on which protein you get and start listing protein choices that aren't vegan like chicken and shrimp. She recommended vegans usually get the quinoa bowl with chickpeas, so I went ahead with that option. Then I pointed at the mushrooms and asked her if the mushrooms are vegan friendly. She mentions that the mushrooms are made with butter, but as she was preparing my bowl, she changed her response to saying that the mushrooms are vegan friendly . At this point, im confused on what's actually vegan and what's not and she is unaware of what vegan options the eatery offers or even what the meaning of vegan is. As she was preparing my bowl, I asked if certain toppings like the crispy shallots were vegan. Every time I inquired, she chuckled as if I was asking too much. If there was a clear indication showing which toppings/menu items were vegan, I wouldn't be inquiring to the employee about it. Upon checking out, I asked if the spinach patty was vegan and her response was that she doesn't know how the dough is made. The food itself was ok. I ordered the quinoa bowl with mushrooms, plantains, mixed greens, mango salsa, pumpkin seeds and cranberries. The sauces like the tamarind ginger and the bbq sorrel were 10/10. Overall, my first time visit was ultimately disappointing. I really wanted to share great things about this eatery, but unfortunately my experience wasn't great. I hope the owner will review this review and make the necessary changes in order to have an effective business.

Oxtail Bowl

For starters, the line was literally out the door. Everyone waited patiently. The owners walked in and greeted everyone sharing they had everything in the menu. This reassurance was helpful to those behind me. As they were hoping that everything wasn't gone. Because of the viral news of their restaurant. I ordered the oxtail bowl, blue Nile, 2 banana puddings, and a sorrel. And baby it was worth the $50. I chose the following for my bowl: Mac salad, plantains, romaine lettuce, coconut rice and yaad sauce. It was pretty tasty. I was unsure that I would like it. Simply because I don't like to mix my food together and the lady who made my bowl served it how she's supposed to. But I would've preferred not to mix my food. For those "texture folks", the rice is served two scoops in the left first. Then you choose your greens (romaine lettuce shredded) or spring mix salad, and placed by hand to the right side of the tray. Then I chose my wet ingredient, which was the Mac salad with spiral pasta mayo and tru color peppers. It was placed on the side of the bowl literally on top of the lettuce. Then I was asked about another ingredient. I chose the plantains (annnnnnd baby!). They were nothing like anything I've ever tasted. Baked with spices and honey! Don't go without. They are chopped, soft not mushy, and seasoned very well. The oxtail were added at the very end on top of everything (both the lettuce and rice) along with a little of their gravy. Now, I will say they were tasty but absolutely NOT thee best oxtail I've ever had. The meat doesn't fall off the bone. So, you must bite them and suck the bone. The blue nike drink is delicious and homemade. I don't know what's in it. But I've had it plenty of times and it is so refreshing/healthy. I taste a bit of ginger and pineapple. The banana pudding has a lot of health benefits. But I haven't taste it yet.

Amazing food, gorgeous interior, service manifesting love and joy of life... cant wait to return for some café time.

Delicious and fresh food! Doesn't make me feel the heaviness of eating Jamaican food after which I love. I got the jerk chicken bowl, banana pudding and blue Nile lemonade. The lemonade also tasted fresh. It has spirulina and ginger in it as well. I went back after my first time to get another one! Parking is tricky though so keep that in mind.

The food here is absolutely outstanding! From the exceptional service to the inviting ambiance, this is a must visit spot in Mount Vernon. Be sure to stop by and treat yourself to a flavorful jerk chicken bowl, tacos, wraps, sandwiches, and more. A perfect 10/10

Jerk Chicken Salad

Wanted to try something new for dinner and I'm always looking to support my local businesses. I found this cute little place tucked in MV and thought it looked good- and it is! I grabbed the Jerk Chicken Salad and it's so flavorful and came with a good amount of Jerk Chicken. The staff was so welcoming and kind and all had smiles on their face. I will be heading back to try more bowls and their banana pudding and smoothies

Once alerted that my order was ready, I pulled up and grabbed a metered spot right in front. As I entered, the shop it was empty but the staff was busy working on online orders in the open kitchen. Seating is available at a couple tables and counter top. I grabbed a seat as I waited because my order wasn't actually complete. Staff was pleasant but clearly behind on orders. Once completed I grabbed my order and headed out. I went with the #5. Breezin- strawberry, pineapple, peach, w/ orange juice base and I added banana. Overall a local spot offering healthy options on the go. Just A Note: They are on Uber Eats but they also offer online ordering and you can get 15% off your first order when ordering directly from them.

For drinks, I had the Legally Blonde with oranges, lemon, pineapple, and ginger root. It tasted healthy and not too sweet. I personally wished I tasted more ginger in it. She had the Crush with apple, lemon, orange, peach, pineapple, and a ginger shot. Hers had the ginger and flavors mine was lacking. I went with the Captain Jack wrap with an impossible burger as the protein, vegan mozzarella, sweet potato french fries, lettuce, and bbq sauce. This wrap blew my mind. As soon as I pulled it apart the cheese just stretched across both wraps. The i.possi ke burger and sweet potato fries blended beautifully, and it had just the right amount bbq sauce to not feel over-saturated. I highly recommend it.

Very reasonably priced for such great tasting food. Every person at my party of 110 people were raving about the great food and service. I am so very grateful to the three lovely ladies that served my guests; Bernadette, Chrissy, and Leona. they were attentive, polite, professional and could not have worked any harder. There was also still plenty of food to take home which left me guests feeling very happy to have another day of delicious food. To everyone at Hearty and Healthy, thank you all so much from the food preparation, exceptional service, and all of the take home containers you prepared. I cannot thank you all enough!

I grabbed a tin of Shepard's pie for $7 (they had a hot option, but I wanted it for work the next day). It was quite tasty and a very good size for the price. In addition to the prepackaged reheatables and salads, they also have a hot food bar where you can get a fresh plate--small around $9, large around $12. It was post-Thanksgiving and they had roast turkey and sides--pretty decent as well--again, good portion for the price--I might have been a little turkeyed out at that point, though. They also have a sampling of sweets and pastries and a coffee/tea bar up front. A couple of stools if you want to eat in, but really seems best suited for grabbing something hearty and, well--not unhealthy, at any rate--for lunch or dinner when you don't have time to cook.
