Great little hole in the wall Japanese restaurant. I've been here many times and it's been my go to sushi place in the Beaverton area. Get the spicy scallop handrolls. They are so good you would not regret it! It has this creamy sauce with masago along with scallops. They have a non spicy version but I highly recommend the spicy one. The curry I've had was pretty good here. I personally wouldn't recommend the ramen. It wasn't anything to rave about but it wasn't bad. We made reservations for our group of 6 and beat the dinner rush. We all enjoyed our selections ranging from Chiraishi Deluxe, Salmon Sushi, Unagi Sushi, Uni Sushi, Assorted Sashimi, Saba, Chicken Karaage, and an Assortment of Tempura. We all got a salad with miso dressing that was so refreshing. Next we had a savory miso soup with tofu. Finally, we all got our entree selections. We enjoyed the freshness of our seafood whether it was our raw seafood or cooked Saba and shrimp tempura. The chicken Karaage was crisp and juicy. We loved our assortment of seafood. Everything especially the salmon was of high quality, sushi grade freshness. The Uni was also so delicious. Some people either love Uni (sea urchin) or not, I love it. As we finished, they gave us some chocolate mints to give us a sweet ending to our meal. We left extremely satisfied and will return again soon. It's been a while, but I always appreciated coming here. The food selection is good, portions are a bit small, unless you do not get seafood, but still good. The ambiance is of an 80's style Japanese/American restaurant. It's small, welcoming and everyone is friendly. It might not be the best place for kids, as it's quiet and food is made to order (longer waits), but we'll still take them if that's what we're craving. I love sushi so I've eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants. This place has, by a mile, the best sushi. The quality is very apparent. I usually judge a sushi place by their unagi nigiri. The eel alone was like 1/2" thick whereas most other places I've been to it's super thin and mostly fat. Also the pickled ginger looks and tastes homemade (a super good thing) crunchy thick slices. I've been craving ramen since I left LA, so when I found out that nearby Toshi's served ramen, I had to come check it out! The place is tiny, which I've found is pretty typical of good Japanese restaurants run by Japanese people. We got there a little before noon and the place was already packed with a line waiting. Many people who came after us had to leave because the wait was too long for their lunch break. Yikes! I would suggest coming right at or a little before 11:30am, or after the rush around 12:40pm. After a ~20 minute wait, we were seated. After ordering, our meals came with a small salad with iceberg lettuce and carrot slivers. The dressing on top was a vinaigrette of sorts, a little sour which I liked. Tonkotsu Ramen ($9.50): The broth was good, flavorful - yet it's not the best I've had. It came with half a boiled egg and only one (only one?!) slice of barbecue pork, which could have been a little fattier. They seasoned it with pepper for me and then left the pepper on my tray. I wish they didn't do that, I think it would have tasted better without the pepper. And the bean sprouts. WHY SO MANY? At the end of my meal, literally half the bowl was still filled with bean sprouts. It was a little deceiving because I thought I was getting a huge bowl of ramen when it came out. No bean sprouts next time! Hiyashi Chuka ($10.95): This dish is only available during the summer. It was a plate of cold ramen noodles topped with prawns, ham, barbecue pork, egg, bamboo shoots, cucumber, other veggies, etc. Yummy! The cold noodles were refreshing, and all the toppings complimented the dish very well. Not the best ramen, but hey, maybe they're known for their sushi. This place has the best Japanese food in Beaverton! I always get friendly service here. Showed up around 5:30pm on a weekday for dinner and wasn't too busy. I beat the dinner rush! This place can get packed and it's a pretty small space, so it's nice to enjoy a meal not having to sit elbow to elbow. I ordered the hamachi yellow tail and salmon nigiri and for sushi rolls I got the spicy tuna and salmon (shown in the picture) I love the presentation too! The fish is so fresh and the sushi rice was perfect - not too hard or soft. My order came with a salad and miso soup because I ordered at least $12 worth of sushi. You have to pay $2.50 extra for more salad and miso soup. Tip: You'll be really disappointed if you show up here on a Sunday because this place is closed. If you order 2 or more rolls, you also get miso soup and a delicious salad. They don't have a huge list of super fancy special rolls, because they don't need a huge list like that. I've had the corn & butter ramen (skip that one - it's way too bland), the regular ramen (thumbs up - this is a basic soy sauce ramen), and the yakimeshi (fried rice - meh, this was lacking any distinctive flavor). My husband's bento box was very good; plenty of food for the price! My son didn't care for the beef teriyaki - the cut of meat used wasn't very high quality. Next time I'll try some of the sashimi along with a different kind of ramen. All the sushi I saw there looked amazing. This place gets full fast so be prepared to wait or go early. The staff is nice, the food is on point, and it looks just like a restaurant you'd find on a side street in Tokyo. Craving Toshi's sushi after a day of work and luckily they are open on Mondays! I'm solo so decided to get to-go even though there are a few spots at the counter (I hate awkwardly sitting next to a stranger and would love for them to expand their small footprint). The waiting area is 3 seats in the back corner but despite these issues it's a full house on a Monday at 6:30 pm for good reason. The sushi here is so fresh, the sashimi is delightful and it feels like I'm in Japan, I lived there for a year. It reminds me of a neighborhood family-run restaurant that the locals gather at. You almost get transported to this beautiful country with the Japanese spoken (but they speak English too)! The price is high...for very good reason. Because of grocery shopping delays, I got to Beaverton too late to shop at Uwajimaya, a huge Asian market with a great Japanese food deli. I was kind of depressed and trying to limit my trips out of self-isolation, and really wanted Japanese food, other than sushi. Fortunately, I didn't have to use the yellow pages like in decades past. Used Yelp! with "open now" and sorted by distance. "Japanese Food" got me a lot of sushi places with long menus to skim. "Oyakodon" worked better, but the first place I drove to had not changed their posted hours due to the virus. This time I called ahead to Toshi's, even though it was more expensive than some of the others, maybe because my mother's best friend had a similar name. The menu had a good variety, including a few things I can't find at most other places around Salem and Albany, but once again, just felt a couple more dollars more expensive than Momiji's. But still, I was grateful they took the order over the phone and it was ready for me. I ordered oyakodon, gyudon and tanindon. Gyudon is harder to find though a simple beef and onion bowl over rice, more savory than teriyaki beef. I hadn't had tanin-don, which turned out to basically be a combination of the other two dishes. Basically, oyakodon with beef instead of chicken. Unfortunately, I just couldn't give them a higher score. The beef dishes were good but not spectacular. The gyudon wasn't as rich as I was used to, with barely any juice and rice noodles, which I normally haven't had in this dish. The beef was sliced thinly which helped it stay tender but dried easily in reheating. And the green onions (maybe chives?) gave it a grassy flavor. That brought it down one star, along with the prices. The oyakodon, my personal favorite, knocked the other star off. Simply, it was dry and bland. I ate it first, that night, and saved the others. Maybe it's the cook in me and I know white meat chicken is popular, but if you don't use boneless, skinless thighs, it helps to supplement the juice with broth or bullion. Then you add a sweetened soy sauce (or my cheat, a little teriyaki sauce). The juice soaks nicely into the rice but this had none, so I had add to improvise for extra flavors. So, basically, in the future, if they are fully open and I'm nearby, I may give them a another chance, maybe exploring more of the menu, but I wouldn't go out of my way for. read more

I insisted on going out for some sushi adventure when I was in the Hillsboro area and decided to go to Toshis as I saw they had some pretty good reviews online. As we entered the restaurant, I was taken back as there were no customers and I was worried that they were closing as we were so hungry. We were welcomed in with no problems and quickly seated. The very first thing that I noticed was a sign for Uni that was flown in straight from the Tsukiji fish market in Japan. This was the very first time that I've eaten from a Japanese restaurant here in Portland that features seafood straight from Japan and I would have to agree that it's a pretty good experience. I placed an order for the normal favorites and ordered the O-Toro Roll and Uni from Japan to change things up. First came out the miso soup and a side of salad with some light dressing to start. Then came the plate that had Creamy Scallops, Spicy Salmon Roll, Ama Ebi, Uni, Japanese Uni and the O-Toro Roll. The highlight of this meal was the Uni from Japan. OMG, this Uni was so sweet and fresh that it was pure heaven. The regular Uni was good but the Uni from Japan is seriously next level and there is just no comparison. It doesn't have the fishy seafood flavor aftertaste that you would normally get. The price for the Uni was double of the regular version but this was special and I couldn't believe that sensation that I got from taking that very first bite. The O-Toro roll was a new one for me and took things up another notch. With the meat being so smooth and buttery that you don't need soy sauce to compliment the sushi. This is surely a hole in the wall restaurant, a hidden gem and a delightful experience that will warrant a return visit time after time. 9/10Highly Recommend! I have been here twice, and I should say this is the only Japanese restaurant in Portland that makes me feel like I am in Japan, judging from the ambience. My family's first impression upon arriving here was "this place feels authentic". I am not sure how authentic you can get or other people's expectations. I have been to Japan, and I should say this feels like a restaurant to you would find in one of Tokyo's alleys at night, where you would eat some legendary dish from a hole in the wall / mom and pop place or late night izakaya thing. I had lunch with 2 other people today, we were hungry and not very in the mood for sushi so we ordered the hot foods. I got the gyudon (beef bowl), my sister got oyakodon (chicken egg bowl), and my mom got tempura udon. I was tempted to try the fatty tuna belly, but since it's more on the pricey side, I am going to save it for my next visit. The food was great, comfort food at its best. I was very full, although I could say that it was a little pricier than I would like, especially compared to another similar place in downtown Portland where you can get more bang for your buck. Also, idk where in California, specifically sushi restaurants, who do not charge a gratuity for 5 to 6+ people in a party and generally sushi joints in California will only split the bill in 2 at most. Anyways, I came through because I had a couple of hours before my flight and well whenever I'm outside of California I always crave sushi. Seattle sushi was great so I decided to hit up Toshi's in Oregon to see what's up. The amount of fish from rolls to nigiri were REALLY generous for what I was paying. If Toshi's were in California I'd probably be a regular here between classes or whenever I want fish. Everything here was and is GOOD. I couldn't pick out anything wrong. Service was good, too. very authentic, it is really hard to find an authentic Japanese restaurant, but this place definitely is the one. First of all, I lived in Japan before, so I know what decent sushi and sashimi taste like, and in Japan, sushi restaurant doesn't have 'Sushi Roll' like the spider, ninja for example, so if a sushi restaurant has those dishes, you can already tell it is Americanized. Their fish is really fresh, I ordered the salmon, yellowtail, and Uni sushi, it literally melts in your mouth, and for Uni, it is fresh and sweet, and don't have the wired taste that I had in other sushi places. It is a little bit expensive, but you pay what you get, the quality is remarkable. The reason I give 4 stars is that the service is a little bit slow, I have to ask for water and spoon after my miso soup has served, but besides this, everything is perfect read more

Was in the hospital unfortunately when I we had this delivered. But let me say, after a long hospital stay, having some good sushi is life-changing. The rolls were fresh, the salmon was good size, and the eel was stellar. We ordered the seared salmon nigiri, but it just wasn't that great. The sear was not there, and you couldn't taste it, like you could at even some of the places with conveyor belts. However, overall, it's not a bad place to some food, not from a hospital. Was expecting more after hearing it's one of the best Japanese restaurants in the area. Yes, the food was quite authentic. However, the food itself was not exemplary. The mixed tempura had too much batter on it. The salad they served was pretty sad. It had almost no flavor to it. Cold ramen was alright. I would suggest to order the Chirashi deluxe if you like your sashimi. There's a good amount of assorted sashimi and vegetables. The sashimi are all very fresh and delicious. I also really enjoyed the hot tea, it had a very strong scent to it. Service was a little slow in regards to taking orders, serving food, giving us the bill. All the food did eventually come and they all came correctly, though. They were also very nice and polite. I would want to try their hot foods the next time I come.
