Food: it was awesome. I loved the chips and salsa. The rice was soft, fluffy and not dry. The steak in the chimichangas was great. I loved the refried beans in the mini taco shell salad. Next time, we will have to ask for cheese on the tacos. Service: quick and fast. The staff was nice. You can't beat the price. The chimichanga was $14.99 and I took half it home so it's like 2 meals for $14.99. Ambiance: cute place with nice decor. All indoor seating. It's next to the shop. Definitely a great meal with complimentary tasty chips & salsa. I ordered three tacos and a hibiscus agua fresca. I didn't expect the large one, but I should've specified I wanted the small. However, the staff was nice enough to give me a cup to take the rest to go. My husband ordered a torta, but they ended up giving him the wrong one. They came by quickly afterward and tried to fix it, but my husband already ate part of his meal, so we said it was okay. He ended up with the birria torta with a side of consomme/soup. He was a little disappointed since he wanted the other torta which came with fries. There were a fly or two where we sat, but they weren't too bothersome. Plenty of parking and friendly service. Since my last review, I am happy to report that this place has just gotten even more awesome! The grocery store and the restaurant have both been expanded. The grocery and the restaurant food are excellent quality. I love their meats and the homemade corn tortillas are the best I have found in Orlando. They have delicious buche and cabeza tacos. I am disappointed that the chile relleno now has a hard, not melty cheese so I won't be ordering that again. read more

Tortilleria El Progresso is located in the same shopping plaza as the Home Depot on East Colonial Drive and Semoran Boulevard. I was excited to try here because I am a firm believer that the best Mexican food comes from these humble little hole-in-the-wall type places. I ordered quite a bit of food from their menu, over eighty dollars before a tip and ordered it to-go. I tried calling a few times and the phone call was answered and then I kept getting disconnected. I don't know if it was a divine message from a deity to try elsewhere, but I have always been rather stubborn and my persistence finally paid off and I finally got through and placed my order. Be advised that the prices either have changed and they have not changed their online menu or I was overcharged, but I was charged more than I should have. I understand that with higher prices for food have forced restaurants to increase their costs, but maybe they should change the online menu. I did not say anything, but I did want to mention it so others are not surprised. Pricing was still good. I ordered twelve tacos (four each of the chorizo, carnitas and cabeza tacos), a chicken nuggets kid's meal, a side of rice and a side of beans, a burrito norteno, a chimichanga and a torta Cubana. Again, not a bad price for all this food, but again, they should update their online menu. I tried each of the tacos and the torta Cubana. Out of what I tried, the torta was the best thing. The torta also came with french fries, but they were nothing special l. The tacos were at best mediocre. Honestly, nothing special and nothing that I would want to return for. I wanted to like this place. I wanted it to be one of those places I could share like a secret to other foodies as a must-try place when seeking Mexican food in Orlando. Unfortunately, Tortilleria El Progresso just is not that place. I even tried justifying it in my head to give this place four stars, but unfortunately, three stars is the best score I could give it in good conscience. read more

I am definitely obsessed and will come back (if I have a friend who speaks Spanish). I was looking for some tools at Home Depot when I stumbled into this little store with a restaurant connected to it. And I do not regret my choice to enter. The store had a variety of Hispanic baked goods and a little café inside with dessert. The concha and other pastries I got were very cheap and also tasted delicious. They had a variety of snacks and ingredients that my friend purchased that were priced decently. We also got to look at the café which had a variety of desserts. (I did not purchase any) The only reason I would come back again with a friend is because I am not fluent in Spanish and when we decided to grab dinner there our waiter was more fluent in Spanish. I would love to learn fluently but for now I can only read Spanish fluently. The menu had a variety of items and I decided to go for the Tripleta plate which had shrimp, chicken, and beef. The portion they gave me was larger than I thought it was going to be for the price. I was not able to finish my plate but loved everything on it. I liked that the refried beans were in a little taco shell shaped bowl. Everything on the plate was very flavorful and seasoned well. This place was suggested by someone on IG and I must admit it's highly likely that I'll return! From the warm and friendly staff, the very Mexican decor, handmade tortillas and the super tasty food I will absolutely be back. I ordered 3 tacos platter with one Al Pastor Taco one Cesina taco and Barbacoa Taco with rice and beans on the side. All three were terribly tasty but the al pastor was my absolute favorite!! I also ordered a menudo but it never came out and I'm thankful because I was stuffed after eating three tacos!! My favorite part though was the Mariachi band! That lady can sing!!! For starters, what does this place NOT have??? Authenticity, check. Incredible prices, check. Made fresh to order, check. A market, a bakery, a restaurant AND a dessert place including hard pack ice cream, check! Lastly the utmost kindness, energy and comfort, unmatched! This hole in the wall is not a place trying too hard to impress you. The sights, sounds and scents alone will transform this humble restaurant to encapsulate all of your senses. The staff here are so efficient, kind and although a language barrier, kindness and hospitality have none. We walked in and were seated quickly and there was even a live mariachi serenading you as you indulged in savory goodness. The food itself was beyond authentic, not overly seasoned to make up for lack of quality and not a fusion kind of food which included all those "extras" to make up for the poor design (we all know what I'm talking about). The tacos were incredible, granted I did not personally enjoy the chicharron one because it was too soggy and fatty BUT all the other tacos were amazing. Wait until you see the interior though, this was the most incredibly immersive experience I have ever had in Orlando and it made the food and the energy all the better. I knew it was going to be an incredible experience when they brought out FRESH made tortilla chips (quite bold in sending the message "it's only the beginning"). It may not be your popular well known establishment and may be missing some elements you are used to, but like all foodie ventures, the uniqueness is what keeps bringing us back to the table for more. If you're looking for an incredible authentic experience with incredible food for a cheap price, I urge you to stop by and try this place once. You'll leave wanting more. read more

I discovered this place when I was door dashing. Loved the atmosphere. It smelled and the plates coming out looked delicious. So I told a few of my friends that we had to come one day and try it. I went with a friend and all excited sat and ordered our food. The place is beautiful with bright colors and staff very friendly. Their menu was huge that we couldn't decide. Now, I gave it a 3 star cause I loved the decor inside, the staff, how clean and most importantly they have a market right next door with a meat dept, even ice cream and bakery shop. When we visit Orlando we stop here for Mexican food it's super delicious the service is a little slow because it's a large restaurant but, their pretty good with the service definitely a must visit. The tables and chairs are decorated with artwork and it's very clean and they have an joint grocery store on the other side that you can easily go and shop for anything you need to take back to the hotel. I got the guacamole for the table. It was fresh and delicious! The guac what lightly seasoned (I added a pinch of salt because I'm picky like that), but the flavor was there! I got three chicken tacos and my guest got one beef and one chicken. We got the onions and cilantro on the side. The tacos were amazingly flavorful! The double tortilla the tacos to hold the juicy meats without falling apart. The filling was spiced perfectly. The cilantro and onions added a nice flavor. The tortillas were very tasty. They taste freshly made! The service was very nice too! The waitress was very polite! The food is good quality for a generous price! High quality authentic Mexican dishes for a very modest price! This was a weird experience as we had ordered delivery, but still called ahead to double check our orders and request something that we couldn't via the online portal. The delivery service was not at fault as everything had fortunately arrived on time. Although, when we called ahead to make sure everything was correct, confirmed a second time before hanging up, it still arrived wrong. No crema and no rice were requested, repeated back and forth several times, and confirmed via telephone. Yet, I received crema on my salad and double rice. Also, they took away the queso on my chimichanga for some reason as well. So I drove all the way to the restaurant with the food and showed the person I spoke to over the phone what happened. She said it was her fault because she forgot to check the order before it went out the door. They fixed it, but they all gave me weird looks for it. The chef/cook even popped out to look at me as he was "fixing up my food" but they didn't say anything. This made me feel uncomfortable. The cherry on top was the associate offering "dessert" before I left, "for my troubles", and then proceeded to drop 2 mints in my hand. When I got back to my friends house, she said she kept noticing beef in her "chicken salad" as well. So she did not want to eat it anymore. read more

Real Mexican food, and offering pick-up delivery! This has been my favorite Mexican spot since moving to Orlando over 2 years ago. I've taken friends their and they have always been shocked at the quality and affordability of the food. I remember I took one friend whos ticket came out to be $6 and stressed out not knowing how to tip on such a small bill, she ended up throwing down a $5 bill. This last Thursday was my husband's birthday, the first day of Orlando's shelter-in-place order. To try and make it a little more normal, I ordered delivery from them through GrubHub. I went there with a good friend who is Cuban & Puerto Rican. I asked them why are we going to a Mexican restaurant and their response was 'this is where good food is located." This is my favorite Latin/Spanish market. We stop here a lot mostly for the pan de muerto and a horchata. They have a great selection of Spanish food items, produce and more. This place is good if you are looking to eat some authentic Mexican food. It is a full on restaurant also offering traditional Mexican drinks like rice water, melon water, tamarind and other flavors. They also have ice cream. They have a grocery section with fresh tortillas and a bakery section that has a varied assortment of Mexican pastries. The reason I am giving the pace 4 stars is because the food is a BIT pricey for a supposed "hole in the wall" type of place. The rice alone was $4.99 for a medium cup. I can get this cup for $2.50 for a large cup other places. C'mon people... rice itself is cheap to make so don't charge me an arm and a leg for it... Charge higher for the meat and other stuff but not the sides. It's still a good place to eat. Go and try it for yourself. read more
