After visiting the Renegade Crafts Fair, we walked down Division Street looking for a restaurant for dinner. We discovered Tortello. My husband was attracted by the Michelin Bib Gourmand signs displayed outside, although I noticed they were for 2022-2024, not 2025 or 2026. I also checked Yelp and saw that they had a 4.3-star rating, so we decided to give it a try. It turns out Tortello only accepts walk-ins and does not take reservations. You order from the menu board behind the cashier and pay at the counter, including the tip, before your food is served. You are then given a number to place on any available table. Drinks are picked up from the counter, while the servers bring the cooked food to your table. Staff were friendly and patient. We were not familiar with the menu and it took us a while to decide what to order. It is a rather small pasta place with a row of small tables with banquette and chair seating indoors. We found a table on the outdoor patio in the front which was nice. I had a Zero Proof Hugo Spritz ($10), which was more like a soda. My husband had a glass of House White Wine ($10), and my daughter ordered an Aperol Spritz ($15). For food, my husband and I each ordered a Squid Ink Bucatini ($32 x 2) - Prawns, roasted tomato butter, cherry tomatoes, and garlic scrapes. It was also recommended by the cashier. The flavors were good, but each plate had only 3 prawns, with the detached heads included, which made the plate look a little more filled. My husband felt that the prawns weren't particularly fresh and said that 1 of his 3 seemed close to being stale. Portions were not large, it was enough for me though. For this price point, it was just okay. My daughter did not complain about her Cacio e Pepe ($24) - Spaghetti alla chitarra, imported aged pecorino and pepper. I shared a couple of bites, although the pasta was tasty, it was too al dente and hard to chew. Although we enjoyed the ambiance and service, the food of the night was a bit disappointing. A casual meal that cost $140 before tip was a bit on the pricier side. It included a 3% "Wellness Surcharge". With tips the meal came to $160. We had desserts from the Original Rainbow Cone right next door, which was a nice way to finish the evening. .

First time at a pasta counter, and I'm not opposed but didn't have the best experience. Overall, service was subpar. The panzanella salad had good flavor but we thought everything should've been cut smaller and there were no knives on the table or nearby, so we had to go inside to ask for one so we could comfortably eat our food. The tortelli came and was good, just a bit al dente for my liking. Then, we waited 30 minutes for our other pasta, to the point where we had to ask if it was coming. The cacio e pepe came and was our favorite of what we got, but it was also way too al dente.

Tortello is a place I take people when they visit and 10/10 times they leave impressed. The pasta is fresh and the menu is simple but delicious. My only complain is the wait mixed with the no reservation situation. You have to put down tour name on the waitlist and its always a 45 min wait. They did just open a bar upstairs to facilitate the wait- but if the world was perfect- i would rather have a reservation and not wait.

Tortello is another spot that's been on my list for way too long. This casual spot offers freshly made pasta in house. They don't take reservations so it can get quite busy inside. You order at the counter and then find a table. This place is a great choice for a date or just a casual lunch or dinner. Inside of the restaurant is very cute. They offer pasta making sessions in the front of the restaurant. They have their products for sale as well as the fresh pasta on display. I wanted to get something I haven't tried before so I ordered the Chiusoni alla Gallurese. The saffron is what really makes this dish. Very very delicious! And the pasta was the perfect al dente.

This has been on my bucket list for a long time. I am so happy I finally went!!! All the pasta my girlfriends tried were incredible. My own with the duck was my fave.

I have been to Tortello a few times. This visit was during the Do Division street festival. It was a beautiful day & they were busy. You place your order inside at the counter. Then they give you a number & you choose your seats. They bring the food out to you. We chose the covered patio. It was very cute. Every time I've been here, the owner is there. Not particularly friendly & a little condescending. I'm not sure if it's because he's Italian & that's just his way. But at this visit, after I ordered, he expressed, "wow, that's all you are ordering? Are you sure? Ok." Last time I was there we ordered online & when I arrived it took another 35 minutes for my food to be ready. No apologies, just said something about good food taking a long time. We ordered the fennel, celery & orange salad. $12. It was more than enough for two people. Delicious. It was mostly celery though. Very few orange pieces. Also tried the tortelli for $25. It had burrata, butter, sage, & hazelnuts. There were 4 tortellis. They were good. Nothing amazing. I would have liked a like more to the dish. More sage or roasted hazelnuts. Maybe 6 or so for the price. Also, they charge $1 for water. We didn't order bread or wine this time since it was just lunch. Next time I'll try a different pasta & maybe dessert.

Dare I say, some of the most delicious handmade pasta in Chicago? The line looks intimidating but it goes quickly, but the wait at your table takes a bit too. In total we waits about an hour for our food to arrive on a Friday early dinner (20 min in line and 40 min at the table). The system is you wait in line to order at the counter and then a staff member will get you to an open table (indoor or outdoor). The outdoor patio space they created is quite nice too - a smidge cramped but it works. It's more casual, but the quality is upscale and the price is very reasonable. The staff were pretty friendly and efficient too! We started with the espresso martinis which are more sweet and creamy than spirit-forward, but was tasty. For the pastas - all were cooked perfectly, that exact soft/al dente middle spot. My rankings include: 1. Signature Tortelli di Burrata 2. Squid ink bucatini with prawns 3. Paccheri all' Amatriciana 4. Cavatelli al Pesto I think the menu changes seasonally, so looking forward to coming back!

I came here on a Friday around 12:30pm. We could not make a reservation and it was an order at the counter service. I went with my partner, overall good pasta, al dente of course. We started with the focaccia and ricotta with honey. It was sweet but a delicious combination. I also got a glass of wine but it wasn't given to me so I had to ask for it from the person passing the food / expediting. I got the Aglio, olio e peperoncino, it had chilis and cheese with olive oil. It was good, simple but good. My partner got the Cacio e Pepe which he says was tasty and better than most food on Division. He also got a macchiato which he also had to ask for because it was not delivered. It's pretty good pasta.

I saw this restaurant on the Food Network and thought the Chef was incredible so I have been following them on social media. I wanted to try this out with my family before I registered for the pop up event this coming Tuesday and this place is as good as hyped!!!! Great vibe. Superior service. The food is great.

Tortello is a great local and chef driven restaurant in Wicker Park. They have great Italian ingredients and you can watch authentic pasta being made. All various different kinds and shapes of pasta. Offering daily pastas as well. A great patio setup for those great weather days in Chicago. Whether day or night you will be amazed by the quality of pasta that is served here.

Was the food good? Yes, yes it was. This place makes their pasta from scratch and that's always a great thing. However, the fact that it was an order at the register spot but still cost what it did, not to mention the slightly curt behavior of the cashier when I was, admittedly, asking for suggestions for my order, made this place lose it's shine for me. Cool neighborhood and the food was really good also, but it's a one and done for me.

Warm familial atmosphere, fresh pasta, deep flavors, and an adorable storefront where people take parta making classes. There's a light casual feel because you order at the counter, but table service is still on point and prices match the white table clothes. I've walked past many times wanting to stop for dinner but they're often packed. It's first come first serve. So we lucked out with an impromptu dinner on a cold rainy evening. The heaters were on in their outdoor patio so we sat outside which can be quite romantic if you don't mind the squeeze. I most enjoyed the seasonal duck pasta (Pappardelle all'Anatra) and the focaccia with ricotta and honey; although their classic Tagliattelle Tina (popular dish denoted with a heart on the menu) was hearty and rich. Truth be told, we selected our dishes based on what we could not so easily recreate at home. And we were not disappointed!

I've wanted to try more Italian restaurants around Chicago, but so many are open for dinner only, and I'm usually around the city in the early afternoon. Tortello is open by noon on most days, so this makes them a more amenable option. Their more casual dining approach where you order at the counter keeps this a more simple experience. The prices are not as cheap as you would expect for this type of dining and somewhat small portion sizes, but the flavor was top notch. Our first time dining there, we were asked to move over to a smaller table to leave room for any potentially larger parties. Not a problem, but the tables are all small and able to be configured into a 2- or 4-seater easily, so they could've just scooted the table over and made space. That larger party never came, and we were moved to a seat where the radiator dripped on me. Unideal.

Although I did think the chef in charge was very knowledgeable, and the meals did turn out fabulous, I was a little disappointed with the class structure for a few reasons. 1. For the price of this class, I assumed that we would all be individually learning to cook each component - that was not the case as we were put together into teams of four where we divided responsibilities. So not all building block skills were able to be practiced by all team members. I had chosen this class because I wanted to learn these building block skill hands-on. However, if you're looking to meet new friends this may just be the spot for you! 2. Like I mentioned, the meal we made was super delicious. But in my opinion, it's creativeness / the fact that it wasn't more simple skipped over some of the true basic skills needed in everyday kitchen use. For example, I wish we had learned more about pan use / heating up / etc. And because we had so many components to the meals, some of the lessons felt kind of rushed where we weren't necessarily able to dive deeper into those questions since there were so many people per amount of chef / helpers I do think that this is a great org, but perhaps I would have felt more bang for buck in a more specified topic / shorter class

We've attended several cooking classes in Chicago as well as other cities, and every one of them provided seating so guests could comfortably enjoy their meal, as well as take-home containers for leftovers. Not allowing guests to take food home seems unnecessarily wasteful. It's difficult not to wonder whether the leftovers simply end up being discarded or eaten by staff.
