Regular Poke Your Own Bowl with tuna and salmon
Candice S.

As far as I can see, Toro Poke is now the only Poke place in the area. Did I drive to the mall with the sole intention of getting my lunch here? Yes. I grew up in California so seafood/poke were a big part of my diet. I was sad to see that it is so hard to find here, but this place is very good. They have a lot of option for protein and flavors. The toppings are different from what I'm used to, so I don't use a lot of them, but that's ok. I highly recommend and encourage people to go here so it sticks around!

Today i bought from here 2 large poke. But there is no flavour, i guess they need to add more sauces on it.

Poke here was okay compared to other poke places. Ingredients seemed pretty fresh. they've reduced their prices too!

My Robert's Bowl...after a few bites...
Libby G.

This is one of the most delicious things I've ever had at the mall. I got Roberts bowl which was full of spicy crab, steamed shrimp, and it was so good! My base was brown rice and besides the proteins there was a bit of corn, pineapple, edamame and cilantro. Topping off the bowl there were two delicious sauces full of flavor. One was bursting with the taste of sesame. I noticed that there was also a vegan option as well as some that had raw salmon or tuna. Chibken was available as well. You also customized by adding toppings. I chose crispy onions and sesame seeds. Yum! Staff were friendly and helpful too.

I had seen some friends post their bowls and had to try it for myself. You can pick from the menu or create your own bowl like we decided to. You pick a base, mix ins, protein, and sauces. I usually like mixed greens or zucchini noodles but unfortunately they didnt have either. I had to remind myself not to expect too much because I was in a mall food court but I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was. Their sauces were really good! I wanted to try all of them but went with the spicy mayo, mango sauce, wasabi mayo and poke sauce - so yummy!!

I saw this place at the mall food court (I know, it was daring of me) and had to give them a try. I had the Hawaiian Bowl and customized it a little bit, and it was good! So for a place in the mall food court I was quite impressed.

Garden of Eden bowl with soy mustard sauce.

I've never been so excited to eat in a mall food court! I love Toro Poke and I'm so happy they've found their place at Oak Park mall. The flavors are fresh and the food is served quick. The staff is very sweet and efficient. It's easy to order vegan here - build your own bowl or go for the garden of eden bowl. Omnivores will be happy here too. Something for everyone!

Located in a mall's food court, you wouldn't expect the poke to be of good quality in comparison to an actual poke joint. Looks are deceiving as I was actually impressed and enjoyed my creation of a bowl. The quality of the poke is great, and I like how they give unlimited toppings instead of limiting to only 2-3. The price for a regular-sized bowl is ~$12 including tax, which isn't too bad compared to other poke places (though it is in a food court). Toro Poke is the closest place that serves poke to me, so I will be returning whenever I'm craving this Hawaiian staple.

I got the regular bowl with white rice, cucumbers, jalapeños, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, mango sauce, and ginger. I added some siracha sauce on it as well just for a bit more heat. Overall it was pretty good although a bit pricey for my taste. I kight have given 5 stars but the biggest turnoff for me was that a cup of water costed 50 cents. I dont think I've ever paid for a cup of water anywhere. Also the worker was very nice and polite and let me sample the sauces without even asking.

Spicy tuna / spicy salmon. It was ... alright.
Caressa M.

It's hard to rate a mall poké place against others as though you're looking for fine dining in between a Dillard's and a Bath and Body Works. But, that's what I'm here to do, I guess. Can you find better poké places? Absolutely. Can you find a better one in some mall? Probably. But can you find a better one in THIS mall? Absolutely not. So, if you're asking me to rate it against other poké restaurants, Toro Poké gets three stars. If you want to know how it ranks against other poké places in THIS mall? Five stars, would buy again ... if the mood strikes while I'm already here and it is around lunch/dinner time and I'm not craving Chipotle.

I had a chance to visit with manager Robert in passing and decided to order the shrimp model and it was delicious. The food was hot there were plenty of big tender shrimp. I highly recommend it. The Poke bowl was also scrumptious and filling. The price is amazing for all of the fresh food that you get.

I've only had poke bowls from Toro and I would have to say that they're the best I've head so far in the KCMO/KS area.

The wasabi and a really nice kick and I just love the flavor profile of the bowl. The avocado is another really good part of this bowl as I think it pairs really well with the salmon and the rice. I feel that the serving size was a little smaller than I expected as I chose the largest option. It didn't seem like that big of a bowl for the price. One thing to note here is the small parking lot next to the building. It's just part of the deal with going to a place in the River Market. If you can't find a spot in the lot, there are a few others close by. One other thing to note is the business does not allow changes to its bowl recipes on app orders.

On a Tuesday night, they were still very regulated about seating us only when every last person in the party had arrived. Tonight, I think it was perhaps because they only had one hibachi chef. He was one of the better hibachi grill chefs/entertainer we've come across in KC so far.. he maintained a cheerful, bright attitude and carried clever conversations with us. he was skilled with his hands as well! all-in-all, both parties (ourselves and another family) were very entertained tonight. The service was inviting and friendly. Our waitress immediately recognized our other guests (they said they were regulars) and welcomed them back enthusiastically. I appreciate how efficient they were with their and our time (attending to us, taking our orders, bringing out pre-meal services, bringing us our check). My downgrade for the restaurant is strictly personal (in case people are not already taking that into account): I was not a fan of the portion (it seemed smaller compared to another hibachi & grill we liked), and all of us seemed to prefer a different restaurant's hibachi flavor profile. For example, the salad dressing was far too sweet for me, and then the food left a strange, old-oil-like aftertaste in my mouth. And then, for the price of more than $30 per person, I was also disappointed to see so little food in my plate. I think you (reader) may not mind this as much as I would, but I think I will return to the other hibachi & grill for the time being and wish this business well

While we didn't have to wait for a table, almost all of them were full when we arrived. Ika is a smaller space in a strip mall off of 119 in Leewood, so there's not a ton of seating but the restaurant went further back than where we sat so there's probably more room than I could see. The kitchen/sushi bar is right up front when you walk in and takes up a good amount of room toward the front but it's aesthetically pleasing. The decor was very nice and everything was clean. They have a big chalk board near the front door, on the wall with their specials. They have quite a few. The menu is very large and our server came over about 5 minutes after we were seated. We ordered some edamame but asked for some more time to look at the menu. When the edamame came out, we placed our order. We decided to both get a side salad with ginger dressing and share two of their special rolls. We got one of the specials off the board, the Hidden Dragon. It was really good and by far my favorite out of the 2 rolls we got. My friend also really liked this roll and thought it was the better of the two. The other roll we got was the Rainbow which is a California roll topped with various types of fish. Neither of us are big fans of salmon so we asked for it to be left off. I didn't really like this roll. I normally love tuna but I prefer it cut a bit thinner and I'm used to it almost having a butter texture where it melts in your mouth. I'm not sure what was going on but all of the tuna had a very strong flavor and yes, I'll say it was fishy. I realize some people like that but I don't. Maybe it was the Hamachi (yellowtail) but it was not for me. I tried 2 pieces and that was enough. My friend liked it better than me but definitely preferred the Hidden Dragon too. I would probably give them a 3.5 if that was an option because the Hidden Dragon roll was very good. The service was efficient and quick. Not overly friendly. They never even acknowledged my friend's bday even though she was opening gifts and we sat a small birthday pop up paper cake card on the table. Not that we expected anything but maybe just a comment about her birthday. Maybe they were too rushed for anything extra. My disappointment in the tuna on the Rainbow roll is my reason for the lower rating. The rolls are $18 each so getting one I really couldn't eat is unfortunate. They also use the crab salad and not just a piece of crab in their rolls. I prefer the latter because I'm not too fond of all the extra mayo from the crab salad. I missed taking pics of our rolls! The Hidden Dragon looked fantastic and the Rainbow looked better than it tasted, lol. My friend still enjoyed her afternoon birthday lunch! I would possibly try them again to explore something else on the menu since there were so many options but I won't go out of my way to return.
