This place is great! Off the beaten path, but definitely a hidden gem. The Poké was delicious, the authentic Japanese soda was fun and exciting and it was really close to the Power & Light District so check it out. The restaurant feels very young and fresh. There is a door and stairs up to the service area so if you have trouble with stairs it may not be a great option. The service was quick, delicious and fulfilling. The tab was $30+ for miso, poke, and Japanese soda so a little pricey. But I expect being 1 block from the T Mobile center their rent might be high so the tab seems fair. Amazing service and great food! Reasonable prices and large portions! They do a pretty good takeout business. Don't be discouraged by having to walk up some stairs to get to them. You can also order ahead of time online. I ordered - guava boba and it was fruity and sweet. Boba had good texture. - Chili Crisp Shrimp Dumplings. Good amount of shrimp which I was surprised by, nice flavor and sauce - 3-protein poke bowl (cooked shrimp, salmon, tuna) with mango, seaweed salad, atop lettuce. Very customizable and fun. Very filling. Lots of protein and fish tasted fresh. - spam musubi for a snack the next day on my flight. Solid. The interior was bright and airy. Fun music plays and I like the art. Located on the top floor of a fairly nondescript building on Grand Street and i670, I wouldn't have known how to find this place if I didn't have Yelp! Definitely doesn't appear to be ADA accessible, but if you are able to walk up the steep flight of stairs, it's a cute little space. There was nobody in there when we went just prior to dinner time which was nice for us, but I hope not bad for them. The offerings were fairly standard and yummy! Nice big servings but I had hoped that both the tuna and salmon would be prepared the same way. Ultimately I can't complain about the food or the location and would return if I were in the area. The only concern was some of the fish smelled/tasted a little on the fishier side and there were a couple pieces that had that darkened color that I dared not to try. The couple who owns it are so kind and welcoming, and they let you customize your bowl exactly how you like it. Always a treat getting Pokesan when I'm in KC :) I love their friendly service and the vibes are cute. I did end up taking my food to to go but I have eaten there before and it's nice! They stuff the bowls to the max and are happy to do any customizations; for me I like my sauce on the side and it was an easy accommodation. The food is fresh and feels so healthy. Their prices seem a bit higher but honestly for what you get it's so worth it - also mine was probs more expensive cause I wanted to add on a few extras :P Thanks for a filling lunch, Pokesan! The biggest issue is the restaurant and seating is on the 2nd floor with no obvious sign of accessibility accommodations. The service was great and friendly, also very quick! The food was of high quality and taste. I personally loved the shrimp dumplings, others in my party wanted a little more chili. The poke fries were AMAZING! The iced tea was not good, very watered down. Overall the food and experience was good! I would have preferred a real bowl for dining in because it was difficult to not make a mess when we got our bowls (I appreciated the amount of food they give you!). Stopped in for some food before walking across the street to see a show at Record Bar last weekend. Located up 2 sets of steep staircases, including one with a handrail that was almost falling off so enter at your own risk. It's very wise that they do not serve alcohol! The menu is provided with a marker to select what you want to order and to select what ingredients you desire when building a poke bowl - base, protein, mix-ins, sauces, and toppings. My cooked chicken and raw tuna on a bed of rice with 3 mix-ins ( avocado, mango and red onions) were then topped with cilantro, green onions, pickled ginger, crispy onions and tempura flakes with a sweet ginger sauce. Delicious. At $13.38 + $6 for a Vietnamese iced coffee made it a quasi-economical light dinner. I'd do it again. read more

I typically build my own small bowl with sushi rice, ahi tuna, tofu skin (so unbelievably good), avocado, edamame bean, mango, and tempura flakes. It's too good to switch up! First time trying this place. Not sure if I'll return. I think there's better poke places in town. Our pokebowls were more like pokesoup. Pros: Clean place with a nice ambiance. Music is not too loud. The bowls offer a lot of topping options, sauces and proteins. You can add 5 toppings and up to 3 sauces without paying extra.The standard bowl let's you pick 2 proteins. I believe their largest allows 4. The bowls are flavorful and will make for a decent Instagram pic. Cons: The pokebowls are served in to go containers that are very small. The portion just isn't great for the price. Also makes it difficult to mix the ingredients if you load it up. QZ gives a much bigger bowl that's a better value. They overloaded our bowls with so much sauce that it was basically soup at the bottom. We had to ask for more rice which the lady was nice enough to give us. This helped make the bowl feel much more balanced but I don't think this would be an issue if they just used a bigger bowl that allows them to give us more base. We also got fried dumplings for appetizers. Not great though. Thought they were pan fried but these were fried fried. Just a little too crispy for my liking and made it tough to enjoy the pork on the inside. They're also much more difficult to pick up with chop sticks due to how hard the exterior is. In summary, it's ok but not worth the 40 bucks we spent. read more

The white rice I got tasted old and hard, I went during lunch hour so I was hoping to get fresh rice. The mix ins I got were mango, jalapeños, cucumbers, and seaweed salad. The seaweed salad was great, however, the additional mix ins were disappointing. The cuts were excessively thick and large, that I had to cut them more once I got home. Which was not too big of a deal. However, I got spicy mayo as a sauce and it completely tasted just like mayo and nothing else. Wontons were filled with crab. The filling wasn't real sweet, but it was tasty and the sauce added some sweetness. Cooked really well. The poke bowl was hands down one of the best I've ever had. While I saw some comments that the portions were small, I didn't experience that. I had the small and was completely full when I was done. There are plenty of ingredients, so don't short yourself. I came here because it was walkable in the crossroads and I figured if the pho was there, I'd get that. If not, I'd be happy with poke too (I'm just a sucker for pho). There are very steep stairs required to enter the dining area, but it's a bright and cheery room with a small bar and poke counter. Everyone working there was incredibly helpful, and the owner was very friendly. It seems like it's a family business and everything there is made with thoughtful love and care, which is wildly apparent. Bless this place!! As for the food, I did get the pho. It is seasonal, but when they have it, I would HIGHLY recommend it. I am usually partial to vegetable or chicken just due to my dietary preferences, but this is the best beef pho I've ever had. It is insanely flavorful and comes in the biggest bowl I've ever seen. I also got the dumplings to go, but I think I would have preferred them there. The medium bowl (at a higher price) is supposed to include 3 proteins and as you can see there was only 2 provided. I also ordered mango that was non existent. It was really more of a rice bowl with a small amount of toppings. For $16 ($17 after tax) I was really just expecting more. When I dined here almost a month ago there were 3-4 clearly fake reviews to my memory, all raving about the food and service, of course. Unamused, I decided to pass on weighing in. First off, not particularly a fan of Poké, so if you're looking for that head over to the Kool-Aid crowd and its adoring fans making their home at 'that place' in the River Market with their unbelievably outrageous price scheme. Good grief. Never, ever, again. Ever. If I was a fan of this kind of fare I could probably go for four stars, but I just don't think any of it I've seen merits the prices charged. Poké is clearly making its rounds around the dining scene in KC as some kind of new and unusual trend we've all been waiting for. Real cutting edge: sashimi mixed with vegetables, sauces added and cha-ching, there goes your wallet. Ah, but that NAME! Who doesn't want to proclaim their hipsterness by casually dropping, "yea, had poke for lunch." And, it's clearly good for you, right? Uhm... depends. So, was in the neighborhood with a friend who likes to think he's on the cutting edge of the dining scene (cough) was so we stopped. Of the 3-4 times I've tried poké, I'm OK with this. At least the ingredients are allowed to speak for themselves and my selection was free from being drowned in sauce (and cost). Other than that? Pretty basic, boring (an opinion). Not my idea of a great meal but I get the appeal. As far as location, interior, decor and service, it's nice, but there's nothing special going on here and I don't expect they're going to see big crowds, but I could be wrong. The owner dropped by for a visit which was nice, and I wish everyone involved well. In the scheme of things, this kind of fare is going to have its fans, and the rush of new spots specializing is clearly on the rise, but I don't think that is going to last long. If you're looking for a decent meal with some sake, beer, signature cocktails, etc., this can be your place. Skip that other place and keep your business here. read more
