This place is legit! I wasn't expecting to find good poké in the Midwest, so I was pleasantly surprised. I came right as they opened on a Monday, so they weren't busy and I got my bowl very quickly. The space is pretty nice and modern, but I ended up taking my bowl to go. I loved how many toppings you could put onto the bowl, even toppings I would consider to be premium, like Masago, Kimchi, and Seaweed Salad. They also had plenty of sauce options. However, I will say that the quality of the fish wasn't anything special. It didn't taste bad or anything, but not particularly fresh. If you want to eat something on the healthier side, while still filling up, this is a great option!
We came here on a Friday afternoon, it wasn't too busy. The staff was nice and helped explain the options to us. The serving size of the choices are pretty small. At one point we asked for a sauce and it was the very bottom of the bottle so it was like an essence. I thought they were going to add more but that was all they were going to do before we asked for more. The temperature of the food was okay, but I was expecting the meat to be more chilled than it was. The prices were decent but overall the experience was average.
Great poke but portions on the smaller side. I ordered the two scoop poke with baked salmon and spicy ahi tuna (which was missing). I also asked for extra sauces which were not included in the order. Though the flavors were good I felt there was a lot of rice relative to toppings. The portion is also fairly small considering I got 2 scoops. However, the service was quite fast and they were good with labeling things for our group!
A friend of mine loves this place and recommended it. I was confused by the parking late. It says as a customer you can park in uber parking lot but only till 4pm? We came around 345 so I parked in the lower lot and had to pay. Only like a dollar an hour but still kinda ridiculous to me. My friend parked in the parking lot and in the middle of eating, we were asked if we were parked in the lot and if so we should probably move cause they saw "them" looking at it. Doesn't make sense if they are open till 8. The food was decent. I don't know if it's seasoned or not but I couldn't taste it really if it was. It did taste fresh though. The person who made our food was nice and helpful since this was my first time eating here. We were the only customers. For our two bowls no drinks or was about $34, that's pricey to me. I would eat there again but definitely in no rush to go back.
Great place with an amazing atmosphere and also menu options ! Everything was well balanced and they have great sample/regular menu bowls to work off of in case you didn't want to build your own!
Picked up an order that I placed on their website. The food was fresh, the order was on time, and the spot looked quaint and clean. My interaction was limited since it was an online order.
My girlfriend and I wanted to try poké for lunch so we figured why not try Freestyle. The moment we walked in we quickly noticed how immaculately clean the restaurant was as well as how they promoted being green via recycling and composting. The service was incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was amazing! The ingredients were fresh and delicious. We both went with the build your own poké bowl and the employees were very helpful in building the bowl. We both recommend you check them out.
First time Poke Bowler here Ans I wasn't sure what to expect. Loved it! Similar to a chipotle (in logo and serving style) you can choose all your basics and then marinade, toppings, and sauces. For the less adventurous, there IS the non-fish option of cocked chicken! Forbidden rice was a great base and the yum yum sauce was as an awesome topper. Can't wait to try all the things!
Located at the fun area of downtown where the market street and all the entertainment is present this place has some public meter Parking around. It was not super hard to find parking around there on a Saturday during the lunch time. The place is well decorated and had a fast food vibe to it, however it is far from unhealthy. when we came in we had no problems to find sitting but I can see that it may be a challenge on weekdays during lunch hour rush when most the locals are at work in the area. Here you order at a line and pay at the end, just like a fast food joint. They serve beer and ciders here, I loved that about this place as I enjoyed a pretty nice cider with my Poke. Since it was our first time and we were super lucky to come in at a down time, the staff took their time to explain the food and how the ordering process worked. The staff was amazing and very knowledgeable of the food. They gave us samples of sauces and things that we never tried before so we could make the best choice for your meal. The food here is super fresh and they serve some amazing cuts of fish. I am a Poke fan now because of them. this is a very nice place to come eat a healthy meal and have a great service.
I absolutely LOVE this place. The best poke bowl around. I always customize mine as you can do or you can order from their menu. The woman with the dark hair, I always forget her name but she just started but she is AWESOME! Everything is always on point when she is there working. Love love love this place.
A pretty decent spot for lunch or a takeout order. I like the menu here and always go with the Ride the Wave and think that the salmon in it is super good. The wasabi and a really nice kick and I just love the flavor profile of the bowl. The avocado is another really good part of this bowl as I think it pairs really well with the salmon and the rice. I feel that the serving size was a little smaller than I expected as I chose the largest option. It didn't seem like that big of a bowl for the price. One thing to note here is the small parking lot next to the building. It's just part of the deal with going to a place in the River Market. If you can't find a spot in the lot, there are a few others close by. One other thing to note is the business does not allow changes to its bowl recipes on app orders. read more

i'm a poke advocate i'd like to say and I recently went to Hawaii for spring break (best foodland poke), however trying this poke, i'm pretty sure this is Hawaii...but in Missouri? The fish taste fresh, there are many options for toppings and it literally taste like a walk on Lewers (street in Waikiki). I didn't go in store, I doordashed however the employees provided me with utensils, napkins and soy sauce which I did add to my poke bowl. I can't say how the restaurant necessarily feels but based on this poke bowl, like a salty, warm breeze in a tropical paradise, again Hawaii. read more

I love this place. Hands down favorite poke in KC! It always taste fresh and great service. I like doing the build your own bowl. I love th variety of sizes to pick from. I also love that the crab doesn't count as one of you proteins. I like being able to mix and match sauces and the employees are always very knowledgeable and want you to be happy! They have a small parking lot on the side that is a like savior since they are in river market. read more

Overall pretty cool place. I had one of the personalized bowls with forbidden rice. Only taste was great and I will try it again. The one critique I would give is the tuna could be cut a little bigger. Parking- ensure you do not park in the spot behind the restaurant. It belongs to an apartment complex. Some spots do not have a visible sign. From my personal experience your car will be towed that quickly. read more

Freestyle Poké is a pretty neat place in River Market to get some yummy, high-quality, and filling(!!!) food. As I had previously eaten a large lunch, I went for the smaller bowl which still gave me leftovers! As far as the food itself goes, the fish (I got both raw salmon and tuna) was fresh, and the marinades flavorful. The seaweed salad is excellent--definitely a can't-miss! Otherwise, most of the toppings and mix-ins were fairly standard. This is all on top of a filling base of rice, to make for a solid and filling meal. Overall, Freestyle Poke is pretty darn good. It's missing that "WOW!" factor present for many of my 5-star reviews, but I definitely enjoyed it and will likely return eventually. If you like poké, or are curious to taste it, Freestyle Poké is worth a try! read more

The first time I had their Nirvana and Why so Serious Good Bowl, I feel in love with the freshness and unique poke bowl. I enjoyed it so much I keep coming back for more. I do like their signatures bowls, but as a free-spirited person I like varieties like their different flavors and textures more. I always go for their best freestyle bowls which you can custom to your liking. They way they serve their delicious food is like how you would order at Subway or Chipotle... but with better healthier food. You choose and they do it for you. You pick your base, protein, mix in, marinade it, toppings, and last sauce it. It comes out so nice and full. I could seriously eat this everyday. So tasty and goes well with my diet and after a good exercise workout. They do have Kombucha here and other tasty drinks sold here too. As well Beer, Wine and Sake. Parking can be a challenge but that's okay, I don't mind walking and the ambiance around River Market is nice not to enjoy. I want to thank Jackie and ThuySuong for recommended me this place, they told me about this place before it even open up. read more
Freestyle Poké is Just a block south of the free KCStreetcar River Market West station and about 2 blocks west of the main City Market station. I live downtown so I took the Streetcar once, walked once and rode with a friend who was driving last time. DO NOT park in the lot just north of Freestyle Poké as it is marked for residents Only and the lot owners will tow you. Look for signs denoting street parking and there are community lots near the stations. Freestyle Poké is open until 10 pm every night which is very convenient. I wasn't prepared for the No Cash policy on my first visit but there are signs on the door now to notify people , but they do take credit and debit and there is an ATM conveniently in the City Market. I love the freshness of the food and the staff has been exceptionally helpful (there are A Lot of choices!) and sincerely nice each time. You choose one of 2 bowl sizes and can create your own bowl or build off of a Signature Bowl. I took a Signature Nirvana Bowl with ahi, edamame, sriracha ponzu, mango and cucumber and added raw salmon (they also have cooked salmon) over Forbidden rice+quinoa topped with wasabi tobiko and wasabi toasted coconut ! They have house brewed kombucha which is great! ! They also have local beers, wine choices, teas and a few other beverage choices. The patio was shaded around 6 pm when we went so it was really comfortable. Freestyle Poké is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. #ericnielsenkc #HowWeDoKC #kansascity #thecitymarket #rivermarket read more

First time trying this spot. hakuna matata- steamed rice, chicken, coconut curry, carrots, spicy cashews, cilantro, jalapeno, avo-coco and I added forbidden rice and Crispy garlic read more
What a fantastic place down by the River Market. I am currently eating Paleo due to some food allergies and this place makes it easy. Everything on the menu is Gluten Free and Dairy Free. I didn't worry too much about the sugar content of the sauces. I have never had poke before and I am not a fan of seafood so I was skeptical. I shouldn't have been. I had a Freestyle bowl with a zucchini noodle base, chicken, avocado, mango, jalapeno, and sweet potatoes. I wasn't sure about the marinade but the nice man helping us talked me into a pineapple tumeric and sriracha ponzu combo. It was the perfect combination of sweet and heat. On to the toppings - spicy cashews, crispy garlic, and crispy shallots added the perfect crunch while the marinated kale added additional flavor. I went with the Roasted Garlic Aioli and it didn't disappoint. Every single bite of this bowl was full of flavor and texture. I will definitely be back. read more

Love the environment, the service, the concept. Although I wish the portion size was a little bigger for what you pay for. I paid $14-15 for the biggest bowl but I still felt hungry afterwards. (For reference I'm a 4'11 petite girl) I'm not sure if the bowl size made much of a difference because it looked so tiny. The ingredients did taste very fresh. All the vegetables were crunchy and flavorful. They did have some unique toppings and sauces that I've never heard of. Great for a vegan and gluten free diet. I think the only thing not gluten free except for beer! I love the integrity of the company. They have fresh fish delivered regularly and never freeze it. And many other things (it's listed on the pamphlet if you need to know). This restaurant does appeal to a certain demographic like "upscale, young, healthy, vegan) so if your expecting Chipotle bowl then I'd say turn away. But if you're looking for a light bite before heading elsewhere I'd say go for it. Also a downer...they don't accept cash. For some people this would make total sense but if you're in the City Market area expect customers going to the market to carry cash. Just my two cents. The cashier mentioned something about that they were a paperless company but i saw napkins...and chopsticks wrapped in paper? Dunno if there's other sustainable solutions to that but yeah. read more

Freestyle Poke is under new management and thank god for that. I came here for their grand re-opening a couple weeks back, and everything was so much better. The menu has more or less remained the same, despite the change in ownership. However the new owners did lower the prices to make it more affordable and worth it. For one small female, a regular bowl offered a good amount of food. I ordered the "Why So Serious?" Bowl, which was extremely flavorful and delicious. It can be hard to find good poke/seafood in the Midwest but the fish at Freestyle Poke is pretty fresh, given that it prob had to be shipped all the way to the Midwest from the coasts. If I'm ever craving Poke while I'm in Kansas City, Freestyle Poké is definitely a place that I will be returning to in the future. read more
