Short Story Brewing Charleston

Tony and I decided to give Short Story Brewing a try for our Valentine's Dinner. We found on street…read moreparking quickly only a few short steps from the entrance on this Rainy Sunday Afternoon! The building (though Vintage) was Open, Bright and Airy! A major plus to this Seasonal Depression Sufferer! We went to the bar to place our order! We opted for the Knotty Boy Garlic Knots for $10 & the Fully Loaded Detroit Style Pizza for $15I had a bottle of water and though he was very disappointed that it was ONLY their WV Craft Beer served, he went with what the bartender recommended (closest to a PBR & Budweiser that they offered ) for $5.50, total with taxes & Tip was $42. We were surprised that the food was out in like 15 minutes. We fully expected to wait since Detroit Deep Dish normally takes 30 minutes to 45 minutes to cook fully. This led us to believe it was PAR BAKED for faster Customer Service which to many is NOT A PLUS! The Garlic Knots were very doughy and extremely dense in texture. Not a fan! The service was fast and friendly but for the atmosphere, price and the fact they are trying to be trendy, the paper plates & plastic cutlery was a BIG NEGATIVE!! I know myself even if Melanac Hard Plastic for plates is okay, but I want true Silverware!! The sauce has a really Great flavor and the cheese pull was very nice on the pizza. The sauce served on top, a big big plus!! I live in Ripley, WV and drove 35 minutes one way to enjoy this meal, but the question is...would I do it again?? Probably NOT! I give them a 5 out of 5 on atmosphere and ambience they nailed that! I give them a 4 out 5 on Customer Service because the food came too fast!! I give them a 3 out 5 for the food, the sauce was perfect but everything else about taste and flavor was a hit and miss. The score might have been higher if I had left off the Knotty Boy Garlic Knots!! The beer though I tasted it wasnt bad but Im not a beer drinker, my hubby was very disappointed so thats 2 out of 5 stars and the tableware scores a zero!! I wasn't on a picnic and the paper and plastic screams picnic or lazy kitchen staff to me!! So, would I recommend? I must say overall, 3 stars out of 5 stars! I recommend you go and decide for yourself!

Just an ok place for me. At first, we sat at the front, but there were so many flies that we had to…read moremove. Inside there some cool paintings and artwork. Beer was only ok.

Was it delicious, nope (kinda weak and grape like) who the heck cares, it was full of character. Who doesn't want a MOTHMAN chimichanga dessert with red eyes, a smile and wings that was filled with Nutella and banana... yes, delicious. Food was great actually, they even have MOTHMAN entree, went off script for the mean and everyone had hot tasty eats, with a big shout out to the in-house tamales. Located in the downtown where lots of things touristy keeps the area going, but locals know and tourists should not miss out. Service was friendly and hopefully that MOTHMAN stays happily in his own airspace. Tragic loss to those in 1967, however, with the continued story telling it keeps memories alive and in this case brought us to some good local eats.

We ordered the Mothman Burrito and the Mothman Chimichanga and I would have loved to try the Mothman margarita as well but we had to order to go and I was driving. We were really happy with the food. My husband had the shredded chicken Mothman burrito and they use a queso and tomatoes to decorate the top and extra tortilla to make the wings. The burrito had good flavor but it wasn't overpowering and you could really taste the chile verde. I thought I had just ordered myself a small chimichanga but it actually turned out to be a dessert chimichanga and I could not have been more excited. It was like a chocolate banana crepe with cinnamon syrup. It was super delicious and the prices here are so reasonable! They also gave us some chips and salsa and the salsa was peppery with a roasted flavor and just the consistency that we like. We were smiling and really enjoying our food and that's definitely what it's all about.
