We had spent the entire day travelling the Amalfi coast in a small boat so by the time we got back to our Airbnb, we were exhausted. We obviously needed dinner, and were not about to just have our breakfast provisions for dinner. After a quick google search, we saw Torna a Surriento Trattoria, with great reviews across all platforms, especially Yelp, was a 1 minute walk from us. I could see it from our driveway. This was the answer. We got there about 3 min before opening and there were already people waiting to be seated. Quite the good sign. After about 15 min from being seated, the place was almost full. The restaurant screams homey, in the best ways. It's bright and cheerful, with eclectic decorations that aren't over the top annoying or too busy. The tables are laid out well and spaced nicely. And it was clean. The wall decorations and other stuff around weren't covered in dust. I loved that. The value here is incredible. I read quite a few reviews saying stuff like, oh the high ratings are because the food is so cheap. Yes, the food is inexpensive but it's home cooking. It was delicious. I went to a 1 star Michelin restaurant while in Sorrento and spent literally 1000 Euro for the two of us. I'm not saying that experience wasn't amazing, because it was, I would do it again. But I would abso-freaking-lutely come back to eat at this restaurant at about 100 Euro for 4 people, including cocktails and wine. the king prawn on the Scialatiello allo scoglio was so tender and delicious, I have nasty daydreams about it. I can't say that about the prawn dish I had at the starred restaurant. Now was everything a hit? No. I wasn't a fan of cold broccoli rabe on our starter and thought there would be more fried fish, but the elements on it were delicious, save the broccoli. Also, this place is a good time. A lively and spirited dining experience. We came right at opening and were seated immediately. We ordered a liter of the red wine which you should be aware is carbonated. It not the most high end wine, but it tastes decent. The house bread was perfectly baked. We got an order of gnocchi Sorrentino and a broccoli pasta. Both were delicious, but I wouldn't order the broccoli pasta unless you really like the taste of broccoli. Ended with meloncello which was creamy and sweet - the best digestive and a welcome change after all the limoncello we'd had! read more

This was the least expensive restaurant that I ate at during my 12-day trip daily. The food wasn't bad, but it also wasn't spectacular, so I just want to say right off that I believe the extremely high ratings are taking prices into account. For me personally, I don't mind paying a little more money for food that blows my mind, so this was just an average experience for me. To give you an example of prices, a leader of house wine was $10 and a shot of limoncello was $2. To start, I had the pumpkin blossoms filled with mozzarella and ham, breaded, and fried and my wife had a dish that was called "pepperoni" something that consisted of sauteed red peppers, garlic, capers and other stuff served in the oil that it was cooked in. They actually worked quite well together, as I felt that the fried pumpkin blossoms needed some kind of sauce or something to help them reach their full potential. I had the lasagna as my main entree and my wife had the spaghetti alla nerano, which we definitely wanted to try while we were in the area, but found it was harder to find than we would have liked. My lasagna was good, not great. The nerano was pretty good too, but I'm confident that it was not the best representation of this iconic local dish. I also had a mixed green salad, which was just iceberg lettuce. Very lightly dressed with an Italian dressing. Most importantly, the leader of house red wine that we ordered went unfinished because it was atrociously bad! I cannot tell you the last time in my entire life that I have not finished a bottle of wine. It had that fizzy characteristic to it, even though it wasn't intended to be a spumonte, and the flavor was just terrible. The service was quite bad, as well, but the waiters were charismatic, so it didn't matter much, since we weren't in any hurry. I did feel bad for the people waiting in line who did not make the first seating who had to watch us sit there for 20 minutes with my credit card on the table, but no one coming to take payment. Oh, we also had the dessert delizia de be, which wasn't bad, along with two meloncello, which were surprisingly enjoyable! read more

Based upon reviews, my SIL made a reservation for at opening for the four of us. What a GREAT LIVELY FUN restaurant. The food was amazing. Homey, tasty and plentiful. I had the Grilled Prawns and Calamari. Perfecto. All the waitstaff put on a great show. When I paid the bill, the waiter paid homage to me and kissed my hand. Funny. I guess women do not usually pay the bill. I left a cash tip. After we left the restaurant, the waiters followed us outside and were honking a horn and yelling "Tip, Tip, Tip" How appreciative. Guess we set the precedent for the remaking diners. Cannot wait to go back to Sorrento and this restaurant!! read more

This small restaurant tries to appeal to its customers by promoting home style cooking and overall friendly service. In such a touristy town, as are any of the towns on the Amalfi Coast, it's difficult to sort out the good from the average restaurants (the really bad ones tend to be easier to spot). This restaurant was a bit of a walk away from the Sorrento center so it seemed promising, less like a tourist trap, however our overall experience was rather underwhelming. As many other reviewers point out, the owner is very charming, nice and friendly. He definitely wants to make his patrons feel welcomed. Although the service was friendly enough, the food in our opinion was average at most. There was nothing to rave about, and certainly nothing that merits 5 stars, but at the very inexpensive prices they charge for the area, it's difficult to ask for better quality or taste. We had the spaghetti alla Nerano and the whole grilled fish. The pasta was simple as expected, not much in the way of exotic flavors or ingredients just cheese and zucchini, but I've had many great tasting, simple pasta dishes in my lifetime that have blown me away and this definitely wasn't one of them. The fish was also just ok, the meat was moist and tender, but overall the flavors fell short. read more

I've been trying to find a decent non-touristy place in Sorrento over the past few days. It's a challenge. Fortunately, we ran into this lovely spot. The owner greets you like family, takes your order, and his wife cooks the food. About as mom and pop as you can get. The food was tasty and the service was welcoming and entertaining. My family and I really enjoyed ourselves here, so I highly recommend swinging by if you are looking for a more casual spot in this area. We tried several pasta dishes (spaghetti, lasagna, home made with sausage, etc). All were good. Really, you are coming for a great relaxing night out at a locals spot. The food is straightforward and fresh, and the experience is great. Probably most important to me, it was nice to hear more Italian than English in the cafe .... good to get out of Disney for a few minutes..... cheers. read more

We loved this place so much we came here a second time. It's a lively place, which we enjoyed, but if you're looking for a quiet spot this may not be for you. Their delizie al limone was the best of all the places we ate. Everything we had was yummy (gnocchi, spaghetti and meatballs, and ravioli) with the exception of the bruschetta, which wasn't our favorite. This restaurant is definitely less touristy being in a more residential area, but we had to wait for their second sitting our second night. Well worth the wait. read more

Amazing. So good we came twice!! The owners are genuine and fun people. It was definitely part of the experience. The lasagna is the best I've ever had in my entire life and it's only 5euros!! They believe in great food for normal prices and don't try to rip you off. They deserve all the love. Every single dish was great. It's definitely local restaurant, it's far from the crowded tourist area. The menu is small but it has most of the food often served in Italian restaurants. You can tell that this place is family owned, because you'll feel the ambiance right when you get in. The price is cheap and the portion is good, the taste were good enough. SO AWESOME! The warmth radiates off the owners here. They are such welcoming people and have a love for what they do. We were in town during the off season and were so happy to find Torna a Surriento located about 5 minutes away from the main square. They're known for guests being able to "eat well & spend less," which was SO welcome after a few weeks in Europe. When we sat down, the owner explained his wife's specials for the day, and we immediately jumped at the lasagna, mushroom ravioli with red sauce, and fried meatballs. Everything was delicious, and we spent way less than you expect to in the area. We left with full stomachs and full hearts. read more

Such a great experience! This is a small family-owned restaurant/bar: there are about 8 tables. Niccola runs the front and his wife, Roberta, does the cooking. Niccola is very welcoming and outgoing and helpful. His English is good enough to help with the menu. Our group of 8 was welcomed with enthusiasm and warmth and between us we had the lasagna, fresh pasta special, seafood spaghetti, ravioli, meatballs, caprese salad, and a very dense and delicious chocolate almond cake for dessert. Roberta came out of the kitchen several times to check on us. The food was really good home-cooked pasta and the prices were very reasonable (the bill for 8 of us was 74euro!) everyone liked what they ordered and we shared around. We had such a great time interacting with the lovely owners and enjoying what felt like truly authentic Italian food for the first time since coming to Italy 3 days ago. Definitely worth leaving the beaten path! (We are staying at the Hotel Villa Maria and it was an easy 15 min walk past a delicious bakery and gelateria....). We walked in late one afternoon. The owner and his wife were two of the nicest people we have met in our three week trip across Italy. They welcomed us with open arms and walked us through the menu. My husband got Vongole, I had the vegetarian pasta with the chef's homemade rose sauce (get this--the best sauce I have ever had), my son and father had the lasanga, and my daughter and mother had the burgers. It was the first and only time on our trip all of our plates were empty. I wish I could give this little gem 6 stars! read more
