2 years ago I bought a Infiniti Q60 From the owner. I was reading all His reviews and the majority sounded great. So me and my wife talked to him on the phone and told him we were coming down in a hour to look at the SUV so we pulled in to the parking lot and the SUV was running. We introduced are self's and the first thing he said was perfect timing I just started it lets go for a ride we went for the ride and as it should it was fine. We sat down after made the deal he told us that he had the BEST aftermarket warranty called CARS Protections plus for a extra $1400.00 for 3 years so we agreed to take the warranty after He told us its good to have BECAUSE you never know. I paid the total to Him a little over $15000.00 CASH in Full. the next day after sitting over night the next day we went to start it up and my whole street for 5 min was white smoke. I called him up told Him he said bring it in. Changed the oil and he poured some additives into the oil. After 6 weeks we started getting a service engine light going on and off. we called him he said bring it to my mechanic so I did and my mechanic said that he was not getting a reading, Bring it back when the light comes back on so we drove it for a couple more months and then the transmission started having big issues I called Jeff back up and he brushed me off saying call the warranty company. It seams now he didn't want to be bothered, there was no money for Him to make!! so I called them was on hold for hours to find out they will only talk to a mechanic shop. After talking they sent a rebuild Trans. it took over a month we went with out a car there car rental coverage sucked they covered 2 days not worth even getting the rental! we get the car back and my mechanic said they didnt pay him enough so I worked it out thank God my mechanic took care of me.2 Months the rebuild they sent went bad . we had to go threw the same process this time it took almost 2 months to get back are car and I had to pay my mechanic almost another 2000.00 extra Because CARS PROTECTION PLUS tell you to bring it to any Mechanic and if you ask them to refer one THEY DON"T! And THEY DON'T want to pay what any mechanic charges but only what they want to pay. (CARS SUCKS) so 2 rebuild transmissions later And I am having the same problem for the 3rd time so I called my mechanic and he will not get involved with CARS ever again! so I called Jeff at torch Light and he told me sorry he OLNY sells Volvo's now and his mechanics dont work on anything else but Volvo's (Bull ST) So Icalled up CARS and told me that they will not talk to me only a Mechanic .So now i am stuck with a warranty with over 1yr left on it and cant get no help From Jeff or CARS and now I AM having other issues also. DO NOT BUY FROM TORCHLIGHT MOTORS - Absolute Scam Operation I purchased two Ford cargo vans (an F-150 and an F-250) from Torchlight Motors, and it has been a complete disaster. I should've trusted my instincts when the owner was aggressively pushing an extended warranty at the time of sale -- but I was in a tough spot, just starting my business, and took out a $30,000 loan to get work vehicles. The first van hit the road, and within weeks, I was already out over $4,000 in repairs. I brought it back to Torchlight Motors to address one of the issues (just two months after purchase), and instead of owning up to the problem, the owner yelled at me, hung up the phone, and then charged me $600 for the repair. Worse yet, the issue came back three weeks later, and a second mechanic confirmed the dealership never used new parts -- just reinstalled old ones. While that van was in the shop, I switched to the second van. Bad move. That one is now parked and unusable. The spark plugs were cross-threaded into the engine block, and now it needs extensive repairs just to be functional. The cost? Ridiculous. Torchlight Motors is full of gimmicks, shady practices, and poor customer service. They'll sell you broken vehicles, lie about repairs, and charge you to cover up their mistakes. The Volvo I bought from him had a JUNK YARD battery in it with barely any life left, a broken compressor, broken blower motor, broken headlamp, and faulty backup camera. All failed within weeks of purchase despite the dealer representing to me that the car was in "great shape" and that he had just got it serviced. If you decide to purchase a vehicle from this dealer despite the warning above, DO NOT PURCHASE THE "WARRANTY" HE WILL TRY AND SELL YOU. It is utterly worthless--barely anything is covered under the warranty and for the items that are covered, they will only pay for the cheapest available part on Amazon. BEWARE!!! I bought TWO cars from him within 3 weeks and check engine light came on in both. First one within 100 miles/24 hours of driving it. Returned to him for "fix" and light was back on within two days. Had it towed back to him. It sat on his lot for three days. He never contacted me to inquire but had moved it to the rear of his lot. Finally, he answered a text, after ignoring several voicemails (his wife was out sick, so professional courtesy ceased). Another round of phone tag and ultimately, I had to drive 30 miles to see him and he told me it was my fault for not buying the soon to be discovered USELESS warranty. I paid cash for the first vehicle. He was not willing to accept the car back without beating me for more than $2500 below purchase price as a trade in towards another car, telling me he is "not in the business of renting cars", just because a customer does not like it. I was adamant it wasn't about like but safety and reliability, not to mention an endless cycle of repairs that were on the horizon. I was forced to get another car and went with a newer model and finance option. Purchased that 2nd car, engine light was one within 200 miles of driving. Purchased the warranty with this car as precaution and it was an absolute waste. Sent Jeff a text advising of 2nd engine light. He replied to bring to him for what was likely a "quick fix". I didn't trust him and took to a Volvo dealer. haven't heard from him since. Zero empathy for the trash inventory he is selling! Warranty company kept Volvo dealership on hold for over an hour after I took to them for diagnostic, only to deny most of the $3000 engine work needed on the car. Warranty within 30 days so cancellation is pending. Even more deceptive is that Jeff had the 1st car back in inventory and for sale at only $400 less than what I originally paid and certainly without repairs done for the engine work and exhaust issues it had, as per my independent assessment done after the 2nd engine light episode. Car lot full of Volvos that look good but they're TRASH! He comes across as genuine as long as you're spending money and the engine lights he's tricked out, haven't appeared. He even hugged me at the end of the 2nd transaction. He's deceptive and has to know the quality of cars he is purchasing aren't worth the money he is charging. Karma is real! read more

Spoke with Jeff this afternoon. He likes to assert himself as what could be described as the Volvo product expert. He initially said that the heated steering wheel option is only found on S90, XC90, Volvo models newer than '18. I guess that Volvo "magically" added this option for us when we spec'd a few of our model yr '15 & '16 cars way back when.. We've owned 6 Volvos in the past two years and I worked for the company in 2022. Dude, cut the lies if you don't know what features are in the cars that you're selling. And if you stand by your product and what you're selling, why would you try to hide something..? Jeff's immediate resistance to an off lot PPI at an independent Volvo mechanic's shop was concerning and something I have never experienced when buying any brand of car (private party, used car lot, corporate dealer, etc).. "conflict of interest" he stated. Jeff, I'll let you bend me over and take the full asking amount if there's nothing wrong with the XC70 you're trying to sell me. In response to him OK'ing an on lot PPI, why would I throw money at lemon squad or a third party to do a inspection at Torch Light if that third party does not specialize in Volvos or they can not raise the car up on a lift? I would never. Jeff is trying to turn a blind eye to any necessary repairs and sell his inventory for the highest price possible. Note the other reviews. My sister was ready for this '13 XC70 to be her car but Jeff's refusal of an off lot PPI at an independent Volvo repair shop was the biggest red flag. XC70's of this caliber can cost upwards of $10k to repair. These cars can last forever but they are not "cheap" to fix. Torch Light Inc is a disgrace to the Volvo community. The Volvo owners who know what is up are not going to buy from here. I've seen a few things in this industry, and without a doubt I can say that this dealer is full of used car scum. First the price is the price, no hidden get you there and ad some BS security package, pinstripe charge call them what they are. Found touch light while online shopping for a new car 8 months ago. Owner Jeff is a stand up guy. Bought a 2013 BMW X1 8 months ago. First time buying used/jersey, I found the dealer's 30 day warranty is very basic everywhere. Jeff recommended the extended warranty but I was hesitant to buy the 3rd party extended warranty because I thought it was either going to be a complicated hassle or a total scam. When I asked jeff if he would service it If something went wrong and he said of course I went for it. I've had two issues with the car, both times I was able to call Jeff and bring the car in with no hassle, get it fixed. I didn't have to do anything except drop it off and pick it up. The second time was two weeks ago, the alternator went bad. I did have to pay a 100 dollars for the deductible, which I understand from reading the warranty. When I got the car back the second time the ride felt smoother then when I bought it. What sticks in my mind is what jeff said when I was deciding if I wanted to buy the car- if you're going to spend +10k or +15kon a car, don't you want to protect your investment? Even with the extra cost I got a great deal and the warranty has more than paid for itself. I don't know what other people are expecting but it's a used car so I expect things to go wrong which is why I bought the warranty, but what makes it work is that Jeff is an honest & keeps his word. I've bought three cars from Torchlight Motors & yes each has had an issue. None of the issues made the cars not driveable, but they all needed attention after they left the lot. Jeff, the owner, will tell you the cars aren't perfect & in some cases he can tell you what has to be repaired. I looked at a car once that had no heat, we were ready to buy it, but once we warmed it up & it blew cold air that was end of that deal. Jeff to his credit disposed of the car & didn't try to sell it. I've recommended Torchlight to several people, but I remind them they're buying a used car from a used car lot. There's no service department, they use a mechanic to prep the cars, so it's up to the buyer to ask questions. Also, start the car, listen to the engine, feel for any vibrations, check every knob & switch. Just remember, you're buying a used car not a new car read more

I am always circumspect when I read these reviews, never knowing if they are, in fact, legitimate. Please believe this is an honest/true recount of my experience, in fact, a YEAR after the date of my purchase simply because I was too busy ...and really never thought about it. I purchased a 2004 Saab 9-5 Arc Wagon, and could not be happier. In fact, other than oil changes and a minor hose, the car has performed perfectly. I am in the market for another low priced car, and will def consider purchasing here again. As for the "warranty" comments in other reviews....do your homework. Not many good aftermarket warranties exist. They were just trying to sell you one, same as all other dealers would do. I remember my signing experience, as well. I then booked an appointment to come check out their dealership on a later day. On the D-Day, I was treated very kindly by the staffs. They helped me get a car that fit perfectly with my budget. Now I am a proud owner of a car, my very first car! Did I mention that the car's so good looking that my friends have been asking about how and where I got it. Recently bought a 2008 XC 90 from Torch Light. Jeff, the owner, talks a smooth game but will not back it up. First problem, which went unnoticed was my rear passenger window does not function. Noticed this the next day when my wife and infant son were sitting in the back. His response to fixing that, nothing. After 3 weeks of having the car my 'check engine' light came on. Brought it into a Volvo mechanic and was told that my Catalytic Converter needed to be replaced and would cost over 2K. When I called Jeff in regards to this issue and expressed my concern he told me "after the car leaves my lot, I have nothing to do with it any longer." I said to him that it seemed like a problem a mechanic can easily hide by resetting the check engine light and was wondering if his mechanic might have reset the system before purchase as well. After I said that he basically said to f*ck off and hung up on me. I tried to call back and no answer. I realized that my statement was a bit accusatory and apologized via a text message because he would not answer his phone. No response. I called back the following day to apologize again and see how we could work this out, he hung up on me again. My father called since he was with me at the time of purchase. Jeff said call back the next day, and has been dodging his calls ever since. You're always at Risk when purchasing a used be hole, but don't put yourself in more of one by stopping into Torch Light. You're bound to get screwed somewhere. And if you do happen to wander in there and he tries to sell you an extended warranty, "at no profit to the dealer" he'll say. Don't bother. I bought a 2007 Volvo XC90 sight unseen (yes, I've learned my lesson). I took the car to two separate mechanics and both said that it needed $7,000 worth of work. That is half of what I paid for the car. Both said that it looked as if the engine had been pulled out of the car for an extended period of time and that it may not even be the original engine. This explains the low mileage. PLEASE NOTE that Torch Light apparently insists that people who buy cars from them give then good reviews which skews this 'review system'. I have lowered my review to one star and edited my post to clarify that it is my opinion (which all reviews are by definition, right?). In my opinion, this is a very sleazy business and should be completely avoided. EDITED POST: I didn't buy a car here, but stopped in to look at a few Volvos. Their cars look good at first glance, but I don't think you can be totally sure what you're getting. I took an S40 for a spin and the steering wheel wobbled pretty seriously in my hands; none of the (granted: new) tires on the car had been spin-balanced. When the owner took offense at the idea of a refundable deposit (not an uncommon practice in my experience), I had my fill and left. I won't be returning. If you buy something here you might very well get something good. You might also get yourself into a huge headache. There's really no way of knowing. One thing's for sure: Torch Light won't be helping you once it's your problem. And they might sick lawyers on you if you give them a bad review! read more

Checked their website, lots of very nice cars well with in my price range. When I arrived I had inquired about the cost of fees above the sticker price. When I gave an amount I was willing to spend on fees, (not including sales tax),the sales person stated there was (no place on earth) I would be able to buy a car with my inquiry. I just walked away because there are plenty of NJ dealers I have visited which had been well with in the fees (not including sales tax) I was willing to pay. Do not trust Jeff the owner. He looked my husband and I and my daughter in the eye and promised that we were buying a car that was thoroughly checked and repaired and serviced. He talked about having a daughter also and how we were buying a car for our daughter that would be good enough for his daughter too. We got the car home and woke up the next morning to a nice big puddle of oil underneath it. The rear windshield wiper doesn't work but apparently "the warranty we bought will cover that". I am afraid to even try getting it fixed. The tire pressure system has a "fault" and the light stays on and it does not monitor tire pressure. He tried saying it just needs to be driven to reset it. 300 miles later it was still not working. My husband called him about the oil leak and he sent us to "his mechanic " in Kenilworth. This was a two hour drive each way and $12 in tolls, plus gas. The mechanics knew I was coming at a certain time. I ended up stuck there for SIX HOURS. First they said a pump was leaking and would need to be replaced but it would take a while to get the part. A couple hours later they said it might not take as long for the parts. After five hours they said they thought they fixed it but were doing one more thing to it. I think they were all chewing gum to patch the leak because after 24 hours it was leaking again. Also said they had to get a part to fix the tire sensor system and I would need to come back. Extremely long story but after THREE More trips to the mechanic ($185 in gas and tolls and about 42 hours of waiting and or driving back and forth) and it is still leaking oil and the tire pressure system still doesn't work so the light is still on. The mechanic never replaced ANY OF THE PARTS. They just tried putting bandaids on that didn't work. The third time I picked it up from the mechanic a headlight was out. The kind of headlights that nobody wants to fix and the Land Rover dealer wanted $300 to fix it!!!! The brakes also started squeaking after six days. I haven't had them checked yet. Made a few calls to Jeff and he mailed me $100. After the fourth trip to the mechanic nothing was fixed and Jeff stopped answering our calls. So much for caring about my daughter driving from NJ to Florida to get to school in a car leaking oil with no tire sensor etc etc. It seriously wouldn't have been as bad if he hadn't gone on and on about how it's so important for our daughter to be safe and in a reliable vehicle. Makes me sick that people can lie so easily. He's one slimy dude. Bottom line....AVOID TORCHLIGHT MOTORS! And never believe a word that Jeff says. read more

Buyer Beware. I purchased a 2008 x90 back in October. Jeff was very and had a good selection so I was initially excited. I also got a warranty to cover repairs. There were some warning lights that stayed on for bulbs that needed replacing. Turns out I needed to have the socket replaced. Also, the engine sounded louder than it should, but the mechanic, who was referred by Torchlight, said it was "nothing to worry about." However, in March I took my car in for some maintenance: breaks, oil change, etc., and was told by the same mechanic that The car would need a catalytic converter!!! I drive quite a bit for my job. The sub was purchased with 133k and now has 139k. And if you're wander what a replacement catalytic cost? They aren't cheap. $2k was the estimate we got When I contacted Jeff about it he offered no apologies. He did make a call to try to find a used converter, which was nice, but the point is he sold a car at top price with NO Negotiation and then didn't stand behind his inspection of the car when in less than a year the vehicle need a repair that was 1/4 of the price paid. If you're thinking of getting a used Volvo here just save up and finance or go where you can purchased a certified used vehicle. read more

6 years now, I have been buying my cars from Torchlite. 4 cars in total. I can honestly say that if the owner Jeff did for everyone else what he has done for me he would be out of business. Daughters first car Volvo s60 was not turning over properly, called Jeff he said to bring the car in. He gave me a brand new battery and told me to bring my wifes car in and changed her battery also. Who does that??? Jeff recommended I buy the additional insurance on the vehicle. 1,299 for four years. 6 months in something happened with my daughters steering system $900 to fix paid for with the insurance. Still had 3 and a half years left, didnt need it. A year ago bought my youngest a 2012 s60 104,000 miles bought the insurance... Turns out after a year car had 130 the valves went. I had an option with the insurance 300 out of pocket and they would give me an engine with 100,000 miles plus? Couldnt confirm, or get an engine with 66,000 miles for $1100 what would you do? I elected to get my baby the newer engine. It looks like its brand new from the factory. Torchlite sells all different types of cars the guy must sell 500 a year. He buys them checks them makes sure their safe then sells them all at firm and fair prices. Jeff is not a medium, he doesnt know if a car is going have problems 3 months down the road .In the last five years I have saved tens of thousands of dollers buying cars from him. My daughters is graduating and we will be visiting torchlite very soon to buy her something new=$@@&=# i mean used. Oh yeah, her boyfriend is in the market also guess where hes going. Just bought my 3rd car from Jeff at Torch Light. We have two Saabs (2005, 2007), purchased a few years ago, and I just brought my daughter in to see Jeff, this week, to look at a couple of Volvo's he had on his lot. She picked out a 2005 Volvo S60. I see a number of bad reviews here, and was surprised. Whenever you buy a much older car such as this, you are pretty much buying it 'as is'. Even so, Jeff offered us a 3 month warranty (free) on the engine and trans. If you aren't comfortable doing this, bring a mechanic friend along. We have had only minimal repairs (light bulbs, a tie rod) needed on each of our Saabs. In fact, the Saab dealership asked me where I had gotten mine when I took it in for a check-up after the sale. They said it was in incredible condition - only needed the oil change. That being said, I brought my daughter to Torch LIght because I have confidence in Jeff. Her engine died, and she needed to pick out a car quickly. Does that mean every car on his lot is a peach? Maybe not? But he answers all questions and his prices are fair (but firm), so no haggling or hard sell. Just a great experience compared to most dealers. Price wise, I don't think you can find better, except through private sale. Each time we've gotten a quality car for a reasonable price! Yeah, got sold a lemon - a 2005 S40 that has had trouble since I bought it. But... they talk you into buying an insurance policy for repairs through Penn Warranty Corporation that isn't worth the paper it's printed on. And it absolves Torchlight from any warranty responsibilities, which is great for them. I tried to make a claim on repairs through Penn Warranty and they said that you have to get prior approval before getting anything done. Well, that's really inconvenient when your car breaks down and you need to get it back on the road asap. But of course that's probably why they have that provision in the contract - it cuts down on claims. I overpaid for the car, overpaid for the warranty insurance, and now I'm overpaying for repairs out of pocket. read more

The price was a little high, but with all of the Volvo's on the lot and Owners claim of 600+ sales a year, we bought the car.....needed to get an axle boot replacement...a few hundred dollars. Paid a couple of hundred dollars administrative fees Title, tags etc clearly listed on contract....received the title that I signed in office (could have taken it with me for free) in mail with $5.00 certified postage sticker ... we were charged $25.00 ,okay that small stuff. Titling and document administrative fees another $ 200.00. so for 230.00 charged, I had to go to MVA myself, and pay another $100.00+ worth of fees. A relative of mine recently bought a car from Torch Light Motors they showed me the paperwork and all I can say is BUYER BEWARE!!! I am office personnel in the same type of business and the paperwork was so questionable that I referred them to an attorney. Not sure if what they did was even legal??? New Jersey resident given a Pennsylvania temp tag??? Not to mention all the other shady stuff I saw. I will update after they meet with attorney. Zero stars!!! read more

About 10 years ago or so, I bought a white '99 Volvo S70 on ebay from these guys, and flew to Newark, where Herb, Jeff's man, picked me up and took me to Torch Light Motors. Jeff took care of the sale promptly and professionally. He was honest with me, and the price was very good. The car looked good and still does. I then drove it home (to Missouri). Bought for my daughter who drove it all through college, now she got a new one and I have the '99 back. Just put a battery and clutch in it (I'm a diyer) at 248,000 miles. It's still fun to drive, good on snow, good on gas, still looks good. Would again. read more

In 28 years and about 20 cars later, this is by far the worst car I have ever owned. He needs to be out of business. He's all talk. I've had the car for 3 months now and I'm out $1300 in repairs already. I'm going to contact the NJ fraud squad. DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM THIS MAN. My advice to you when you buy cars is to bring a mechanic or someone who would be able to make sure EVERYTHING checks out okay, because if everything LOOKS okay and you take his word for it that there's nothing wrong with the car, then you'll end up in body shop the next day (I'm not exaggerating) because of the failed inspection, the leaks and the broken AC compressor. Jeffrey seemed like a trustworthy guy when I bought the car from him, but when I called him the very next day he already had my check, so he told me there's nothing he can do because "he's not a mechanic", and then *CLICK* goes the phone, and I paid over $2000 to have the car fixed RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT IT. Do not buy your cars from him, but if you decide to anyway, bring a professional to have it checked for you, so you don't end up shelling out extra money the day after. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Do NOT buy a car from here if you don't want to end up putting hundreds and hundreds of dollars into a car that he claims is up to par on everything. He is the definition of a sneaky used car salesman. My tire pressure light has been on since I got the car in December. After calling about it, he insisted he would take care of it and sent us to HIS mechanic who I'm sure he just gets a deal for sending people there. They claimed it was something with the spare tire and that they had fixed it. Drove for 10 minutes and the light came back on. Spent over a week driving back and forth to HIS mechanic which was an hour and a half from my house and the light is still on 6 months later. Really should be reimbursed for all those tolls and gas money since our only option was to use his mechanic since that's the only way it would be paid for by him. Waste of time and money. Headlight died a few days into having the car and every mechanic claimed that fixing LR headlights is extremely complicated and could cost hundreds of dollars, or some said they wouldn't do it at all. Thankfully figured out how to fix that on our own. Also 3 months into having the car the battery died after 2 days of not driving it and had to purchase a brand new battery. Selfish man only cares about himself and will rip anyone off to make some money. Do not trust him and I strongly recommend finding a car somewhere else. Already peeled the "Torch Light Motors Inc." letters off of my car and will be buying a new license plate holder because I refuse to advertise for such a disgusting business. read more
