This is first time we tried this restaurant we ordered two different tasting menu. Price is reasonable and every dish is really good We also did à la carte for the kid, unagi Don is amazing! We are happy to select this place when we visit Richmond Vancouver. This one is going to be on our list when we come back.

I've been to Torake twice now, and while it's a solid spot, I'm a bit on the fence. The food is good, no doubt, but for $88, I kind of expected either a bit more food or a slightly lower price. That said, the service is top-notch--everyone there is super friendly and attentive, which definitely enhances the experience. The location is also interesting - not where you'd expect to find an upscale omakase joint. I probably won't be back for dinner just because the price doesn't quite match the portion for me. However, the $55 lunch menu is tempting and seems like a much more reasonable way to enjoy what they offer. Worth a try if you're curious.

Hotate Sushi from the $58 Omakase Lunch Menu

We recently tried Torake's affordable $58 omakase lunch menu, and we were absolutely blown away by every dish. The menu perfectly blends traditional and fusion flavours, offering a modern take on omakase that left us in awe. This spectacular experience was worth every penny! The ingredients were fresh, the flavours were incredibly well-balanced, the presentation was stunning, and the service was phenomenal. While I loved everything I tasted, my top three favourites had to be the Foie Gras Aburi add-on, the Hotate (Scallop) Sushi, and the Salmon Hand Cone. The Foie Gras Aburi was perfectly seared, creamy, and savoury -- pure dreamy melt-in-your-mouth goodness. The Hotate Sushi was sweet, plump, and tender, and the Salmon Hand Cone was bursting with flavour. Special mention goes to the Chilled Dashi Pea Soup, which was rich yet refreshing, and the unique take on Tamago Sushi with its caramelized top and super silky texture. OMAKASE LUNCH MENU Sidestrip Shrimp Sunomono Chilled Dashi Pea Soup (with Charred Cod) Shiso Oyster Spring Roll 8 Pieces of Sushi Hand Cone (Salmon) Miso Soup Foie Gras Aburi (Add On: $8.50) Yuzu Ice-Cream THE SUSHI Madai (Sea Bream) Kanpachi (Amberjack) Akami Zuke (Bluefin Tuna) Salmon with Basil Sauce Hotate (Scallop) Anago (Salt-Water Eel) Miso-Marinated Sablefish Tamago Other add-on options include the Wagyu Beef Aburi ($11), Bafun Uni Nigiri ($15), and Bafun Uni Ikura Don ($32). Overall, this Japanese omakase spot was a real treat. The food was top-notch, and the chef and staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and super attentive. Combined with the cosy atmosphere and exceptional service, it's the perfect place for a laid-back, delicious meal. Torake offers two seatings for their lunch omakase at 11:30 AM and 1:15 PM on Saturdays and Sundays only. Online reservations open four weeks in advance and fill up quickly with only five spots per seating! Don't miss out on this incredible culinary adventure. My gf and I tried Torake's premium omakase recently for our anniversary, it was our first omakase and it was an amazing experience! As soon as you walk in you'll feel the coziness of the place along with the crisp and white lights from the ceiling. It is a small restaurant, so the vibe was not crowded nor loud. The server had a very polite manner, turns out she's also the baker that takes care of the desserts! Both her and the chef were from the same culinary school if I was not mistaken. Very interesting young staff that are just starting out on their own. We didn't know what to expect since it was our first omakase, I was very surprised at how fresh the fishes were compared to the normal sushi places. Each nigiri tasted very uniquely on its own, the wait between each nigiri was nicely designed, we didn't leave the place feeling full because of how spaced out the wait was. Although there were other premium ingredients such as the wagyu nigiri and uni + snow crab; Our favorite was the Otoro nigiri, it was very fatty, and melts right in our mouths. Overall, we were glad to choose Torake for our first omakase experience, affordable price for people who have never tried it but are looking forward to!

This place has 2 omakase menus one being $88 and the other being $120. They also have a regular a la carte menu as well. Be sure to make reservations as it's a super small Place! * $120 ~ it came with 4 starters, 7 nigiri and a dessert, they also gave us a free bluefin tuna on deep fried perilla leaf starter. Highlights were the spot prawn nigiri and engawa along with the otoro they were so good! The UNI Don at the end was delicious as well it was so creamy and yummy! * Not the best omakase I've had but it's decent for something of the price categories since majority of the omakase is $200+ in van. * Would you try it out? * Torake ~ 9471 no2 road, Richmond bc. *

We sat in a separate section of the restaurant with 3 tables at the front. We ordered chicken wings, assorted tempura, miso black cod and an order of beef teriyaki that was not on the menu. The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. The miso black cod was a very small portion - maybe 4 oz. for $18.00. We did not feel that there was value for the money. The food was average and the prices were too high for the quality and amount of food received. We did not enjoy the anime that was playing and we were glad that we were not sitting in the main dining room. Overall, we feel that there are better options for a Japanese meal.

Sashimi and sushi were just ok, a bit below average. Tempura was decent. Chicken skewers were too salty. Fried rice was also ok, pyramid style presentation was good. Cheese cake was half frozen. Overall, food was below average. However, IKEMEN cafe event was excellent. It was a lot of fun and service was great. I will revisit IKEMEN cafe event if they offer in the future.

The menu contains a variety of rice combo dishes that you can select (pork, chicken, beef, fois gras, curry) and a tempura noodle set as well. Occasionally, they also have specials as well. My boyfriend and I ordered the beef set and the tempura noodle set with pork. I love how there are a variety of side dishes that come with the set. This is great for those who like variety and want to have a complete meal with all the food groups. My favourite is definitely the pickled daikon/carrot and the cabbage salad! The food is not too salty and the broth was perfectly seasoned for my palate. My boyfriend also ordered an espresso romano which I had never tried before. The foam on top was surprisingly refreshing with a tart aftertaste of lime. The prices were also very fair with most sets averaging around $19-20 before tax. You order at the counter and pay after you're finished. This is a great place for a quick bite especially if you're in the Ironwood area of Richmond.

However, Saku may have won me over with their sharable combo set. My friend and I came in for dinner last Wednesday. It was quite busy for a weekday and we waited around 30 minutes. I loved the interior of this place! It's clean, but warm toned, and stylish. We opted to share the Zenbu set (comes with variety of pork, chicken, cheese, seafood and veggie tempura) and realized we could get refillable rice, soup, and salad for both of us. This was awesome! I was pleasantly surprised by the chicken thigh. I normally always order pork katsu, but the chicken was tender and juicy. The scallop was huge and not rubbery at all! There was more than enough food for the both of us and we even both had leftovers for lunch the next day. We also ordered the lobster croquette, which was fun to try. Like any croquette, there was a lot of mixed ingredients apart from the lobster, but it was still tasty and fun. The staff were attentive at refilling items and were easy to flag down. This is definitely a place that I would return to again and again when I'm in the mood for Katsu.
