Baked avocado and calamari sticks
Marcie S.

I always try to stop in at Topside when in town. Being from Steilacoom, it's fun to have a "go to" spot that is actually good. The service is great, seems everyone is always in a good mood, and the food is pretty darn good. Last time we came in, we had the baked avocado and calamari - which was delicious! The presentation was fun with an octopus drawn out of the sauce and it distracted me from mentally thinking the sticks were fried mozzarella. Don't be deceived by the shape - it's good! If you have the pleasure of finding yourself in Steilacoom with time for a meal, give this place a shot.

Best clam chowder I've tasted!

Food is good, service is attentive, and the view from the patio is beautiful. Good selection of beers. Unfortunately when we went back this afternoon to eat, the prices made us choke! $20 for burgers and up charge of $3 for a salad or soup instead of fries. Once we were seated and saw the current menu, we had to get up and leave. I'm just sorry to see the prices increase so drastically since our last visit. We were on a long trip and gone for 7 months, so it was disappointing to realize we can no longer afford to eat at Topside on our retirement budget.

Anchor Room menu

Tried to add Topside's Anchor Room as a separate establishment, but it didn't work. This is a review for the Anchor Room and not Topside Bar and Grill. The Anchor Room is tucked away across the breezeway from the coffee shop. We were quickly greeted. We sat on a sofa facing the windows with a view of the water. They told us that they have recently implemented the HH menu from the bar and grill, but they also have their own menu. On Sundays there is no corking fee, so definitely a better deal than single pour unless you are wanting a variety. They have events and wine tastings occasionally. Can't wait to check one out sometime. We got a pork belly sandwich and curry skewers. The food was okay. Hoping that next time it will be a little better. The space is cute and the vibe is chill. Looking forward to coming back.

Fish and chips and some Gig Harbor goodness

The views are amazing. The fish and chips are top tier! I've also heard their salmon burger is amazing. I had a great server who was really friendly. She let me try a couple beers because I was indecisive. I appreciated the patience and the great customer service.

Chicken sandwich

The service was the best part and the waitress was very helpful and kind. The ambiance was great and had a nice view of the ferry docking and the beach. The food on the other hand was very middle of the road. We had the calamari to start and the chicken sandwich and fish and chips. All the food had very little flavor. Probably won't be back anytime soon.

A friend recommended the fish(haddock) and chips,so following a great experience at another eatery I thought, let's see who has the best.It was a pleasant day,so the deck was very popular.Lovely view.We ate indoors,in a comfortable atmosphere, some piped in music wasn't too loud.Staff were friendly and attentive. My fish n chips were extremely good. One nice sized filets and tasty fries.Definitely some of the best fish I've tasted. Also ordered was the salmon burger. No complaints whatsoever.Lovely flavour and moist. Can well imagine that during the summer,or any decent warm day, this bar and grill is jumping. They also have a coffee shop at street level.Glad we stopped by.

The food is very good. The service? Not so much. We stopped in for dinner and it was not real busy but the service was terrible, none the less. We were sat at a table and were not contacted again for 15 minutes. A server walked over and asked if we had been helped. When we responded that we hadn't she said with minor annoyance in her voice, "well, I guess I'll take care of you then". It was a lackluster way to start our dinner. No apologies for making us wait and certainly not a welcoming experience. Why would they not have assigned sections? We were really craving clam chowder... but they were out. At 5pm on a Sunday. We received our food about 25 minutes later, which was delicious. I loved that their dressings and sauces are all very tasty as if made in house. Portions were decent for the price point. We sat with empty drink glasses until I got up and asked for a refill since no one came by to check on us or refill our drinks half way through our meal. We saw our server chatting behind the bar not paying attention to her tables. Overall, we were disappointed. We don't eat out a ton anymore because it is so expensive so when we do go out, we expect reasonable decent service since that is what we are paying for when we choose to go to a restaurant. Not sure we will be back, based on the service.

Mac n cheese

Very friendly and attentive staff. Bartender even made my dad a signature off the menu adult apple cider. So good! Mac n cheese was very creamy. Restaurant was clean and bright. Next time we are in the area I will be bringing the rest of the family for sure.

The food was outstanding. Well cooked Cod fish n' chips ($25). I had the ice tea and it was great ($3.50). We did have the lemonade and also the blackberry tea, wasn't a fan. ($8) Wasn't too busy for a Saturday afternoon. But started to pick up. Servers were very busy and had to ask for waters and refills. Overall it's a great place to sit and relax outside and enjoy the waterfront view. Great place to have breakfast lunch or dinner.

Good food, friendly service, and a view of the sunset! Only drawback is the wait time if you want to sit outside because the view is so good.

Bloody delicious (Bloody Mary 3/9/2025)
Kelvin P.

Incredible local bar with mass appeal. Cozy quaint and great for date night, families, or friends. The food is high quality and borders on gourmet with an easy pub feel. The prime rib sandwich (special) is absolutely amazing!! The Bloody Mary is a hidden gem. Fish sandwich (Haddock) on happy hour is great. Clam chowder is its own unique recipe. There is ample parking and the service is incredible. This is a must try.

I had a pleasant Sunday here with family. The views were immaculate and the salmon burger was really good!

Beautiful decor in the Anchor Room

Go downstairs to the Anchor Room which is a fun wine bar/lounge. Such a cool experience with wonderful staff.

Fish N' Chips - 5/5 stars. Server said the fish is fresh and not frozen

My order of steam clams was very good. Service was good and our wait person was attentive. Sitting deck side on a sunny day is a must.

Been here twice and both times have been lovely! Most recent time was a few days into the new year…read moreso Christmas decorations were still up which made the restaurant very cozy on a blustery rainy day. I was treating my mom to a birthday lunch where she enjoyed the most amazingly textured and light salmon cakes with the best dipping sauce over a beautiful Caesar with an oyster Caesar dressing. I had an equally as impressive mushroom bucatini and while I'd usually add a protein to my pasta this one did not need it so I skipped it and did not regret that as the medley of mushrooms was just so flavor packed and plentiful. I devoured my many leftovers later that evening. We will be back!

Ordered the $24 'French Kiss' burger...ordered it medium rare to which the waitress said 'ok' as…read moreshe took my order. At that price, I expected a thick burger that would be cooked to order...something like you'd get in a steakhouse or a French restaurant. The burger comes with au jus, furthering that expectation. Burger showed up, torched through, completely brown all the way through. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said 'oh, it's a smashburger, we can't cook it to medium rare'. Ok, well first of all $24 for a smashburger is nuts. No mention of that on the menu. If I want a smashburger, I'll pay $6-8 at a food truck. And second, why didn't you tell me that when you took my order for a medium-rare burger? I would have ordered something else. And the cup Au Jus was thicker than I expected, more like a sauce, rather than something to dip your burger in. Strange. Skip the $24 (smash)burger, get something else. Definitely would not recommend.
