Gosh I love Surplus Stores. There seem to be less of them, so I was glad I found this one. Tons of things from new items (holographic scopes, plate carriers, pins, gifts, knives, M4 upper receivers) to the surplus uniforms, military shirts, boots, training manuals, patches, and MREs I've come to expect from Surplus Stores. The service was excellent, and I appreciated the 15% military discount (wasn't expecting it). I could have easily spent $$$$ here, but I kept it under $100 somehow. In my opinion, they have very bad customer service. I bought front and rear sights, made by a private company, that were defective and the gentleman wouldn't take them back. He stated they are surplus and he doesn't return military surplus. These are not something any military branch would have on their rifles. I would know, I was in the military. I would not recommend this place at all. You place an order and the very least is give me a courtesy call. I placed the order in March. Instead of them calling me to see where is the item, I had to call this place several times regarding the status of my order. They wrote my order in their book. Then the store manager says, "Show me your receipt." I have the items charged to my card. Very, very unprofessional. This store is run by a veteran. I don't recommend at all. You can order you military items through another vendor but DO NOT go to this place. This place told me in October that the supply was not available. Recently decided to give Tops a try again. It had been a couple years since I had been in there. My previous experience had been the same as the other reviewer. Since my last time in, they have moved to a new, larger space, and added a lot of product. More importantly, the young guy I dealt with at the front counter was 180deg different from the person I had to endure on my original visit. This new guy was respectful and helpful. It's a good place to buy MRE's and the gear is pretty good when your size is in stock, but they'll get you pretty much anything that day or the next day. I purchased a belt from Tops Military Supply in Clovis, it was to big and I first tried to exchange it at the store in Visalia. They wouldn't exchange it, so my next trip to Clovis I attempted to exchange it there, I was told by the employee; "belts are the one thing we don't do exchanges on" WTF? I said not even a store credit on these boots? (There price $139.99). He said "No". So for $38.99 your going to lose the business of repeat customer? This is the worst business practice I think I've ever experienced. They claim to support Military / Law Enforcement with their 10% discount but in my opinion failed miserably on customer service. I had first bought a backpack here in 2013, backpack is still going strong. I have frequented this place quite often the last few weeks and I always have a pleasant experience. Staff is informative and not overbearing on pushing sales. I can wander around as long as I need to around and ask questions. They even had a coffee mug brought over from their other location for me because it wasnt in stock at the time. Great customer service. I will return here for all my needs! read more

As I explained to both the manager and now the owner also, I will never shop here again period. The owner in response to my review continued to throw his return policy in my face. They should have a sign on the door...shoppers beware...no returns allowed. They explained to me that they have signs posted on which items are non-returnable. I did not see those. Many other stores have more integrity and educate customers of the return policy in multiple ways including on the receipt or during checkout. The manager here tells me they cannot always inform every customer! What??? Many other stores have a much more flexible return policy on knives. Simply put...I will shop there instead. read more

Last week, I went to Top's to check out some of their gear. I had a nice conversation with one of their employees about the different knives that they offer. I left the store, then returned to purchase a shemagh. I went home and opened it, only to be greatly disappointed when I discovered a horrendous substance that resembled dried vomitus all over the cloth. I was upset to say the least. "Oh well, I'll just take it back and get another one" I thought. So I drove all the way back to Top's and walked in, only to be "greeted" by the owner. I showed him the damaged shemagh, which was in its original bag with the receipt, and explained to him that I would like another one. He simply replied that he had no way to tell that I wasn't the one that made the mess and that the package was sealed and he would not take it back. (The package was not sealed by the way, it was only stapled together.) I pointed out that the vomitus was dry and caked on and that it had been there for quite some time, but he replied that he could not take it back. I told him I should have just shopped on Amazon (it's cheaper there too). I like to support local businesses, but when they provide extremely substandard services, I have no choice but to buy online. I wasted over twelve dollars, and I also wasted time writing this stupid review. Mr. Owner, if you see this post, I'm sorry, but I'll never be back. My next purchase will be on Amazon.com read more
