I'm so glad I tried this place - the only issue now is the constant craving to return! I have tried the al pastor, carnitas, and asada tacos - all were phenomenal. I love that the tacos come with just the meat on them - and that's really all they need. I often love my tacos loaded with all the toppings for flavor, but this meat is so flavorful that I solely put a pinch of onions and some green hot sauce on them and that's all I need. Great food here without the price tag - and that's hard to come by in LA. And heads up that they do Taco Tuesday - all tacos are $1! It's not a stand-alone restaurant - it's in a strip mall - so there's ample parking. It's very clean and has both indoor and outdoor seating. read more

I'm from San Diego - and we have some Amazon's Mexican food. I am always searching for a yummy cheese quesadilla to fulfill my craving. This place has the best one I've had so far! Thanks for saving me the 2 hour + trip! read more

I had a team meeting in Carson After the meeting I wanted to take my guys to lunch as a showing of appreciation Top Shelf Tacos had a bunch of great reviews so that is where we decided to go The smell when you walk in is amazing Super clean, bright and surprisingly, not too crowded considering it was close to lunch Oscar took our order and he was super nice I had the Carne Asada fries! Oh my gosh! They were amazing. Fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned The Carne was perfect and cut into bite size pieces the way I like it. The sauces on top were excellent. Also ordered chips & guacamole to share Good Guac for sure My guys ordered a shrimp burrito that was HUGE and a wet beef burrito with red sauce. They both looked great and they loved them It was funny that a couple of us said we needed a nap after our lunch there If you are ever near Top Shelf Tacos go see Oscar and he will serve you some amazing Mexican food This may sound racist but it is not meant to be so, if you see the Mexican community eating at a restaurant, you need to go. Seriously, how often do you see Mexicans eating at Taco Bell or Del Taco? I'll tell you, NEVER! It watered down wanna be Mexican food. Not sure it should really be classified as food to be honest The Y I'm Y Kii I Ht I Am H Th read more

Probably the best tacos I've ever had!! As is the tacos from TST are delicious, but I was most impressed with their toppings bar. You get a great variety of veggies/herbs with a few sauces to spice up the meal. Many people told me to try other taco chains first, but I'm definitely glad we came here. Pro tip - add cotija cheese to all your tacos. You'll thank me later. read more

The Jackfruit was not seasoned. This was edible in a world where vegan items are hard to find. The veggie taco was filling with beans and onions. I preferred the veggie taco over the jackfruit taco. The fries was seasoned and fresh. read more

Hidden gem in a dead complex. Too bad it was closed to Dine in due to Covid because the interior looked very fun and a nice place to chill. The food I enjoyed very much, and the Southbay Barito was pleasantly surprising. They had a lot of different, non-traditional, ingredients in this burrito. I was skeptical at first, but the combination worked well. My favorite part of this order was that they gave a bounty of sauce without even having to ask! This was the first time I have ever gotten more sauce than I asked for. I live for sides and fixings, this includes sauce, so this was a very big deal for me. Avocado, green sauce, red sauce, complete with cilantro onions and lime. A non-traditional burrito with traditional sides. I can't wait to come back because I saw a photo of the fries and I'm STILL thinking about them..... read more

Went on taco Tuesday and they had a great deal on tacos and beer! Also the wet burrito was delicious. Great, friendly service. I will definitely go back. Nice clean little spot. read more

Presentation, service, and ambience is great. Sadly their food is moderate at best. 5.5-6/10. I come from Los Angeles where you can get tacos for half the price that definitely taste better. Flavor was lacking in all four of the different types of tacos I had. read more

These guys are always on point. Very hard-working staff. I typically go in a little later and I'm usually one of their last customers and they're always so respectful and nice to me. I always have a special request they always take care of them They are one of the best taco places around for sure. The food is delicious and the staff is always very nice which makes the food taste better, It's like cooked with honor love and respect. This place is great one of my go tops for sure. read more

I'm going to rate this place on the following criteria: price, quantity, and quality. Quality: The quality of the food is definitely top shelf. Quantity: The amount of serving is also plentiful to which a heavy will enjoy. Price: It is definitely over priced because you can get the same amount serving at any respectable and well established Mexican, hole in the wall, food place. If you are single, it is a great place to eat but if you are buying for a family (+3 and over) get ready to spend over $70. read more

South Bay burrito all day carnitas. And that yellow-green sauce is . Don't get it twisted.

Came here a number of times when I used to live in DT Long Beach. It's quite a drive away and this location is tucked away in an inconspicuous little shopping plaza that can easily be missed if you're not actually looking for it. But this place is definitely a gem. The restaurant is fairly big and has indoor seating for around 8-10 small groups. It's definitely on the cleaner side of most restaurants in the area as well which is a very comforting sight especially during Covid. On to the food,... everything I've tried here has been amazing and priced very reasonably. [Al Pastor, Asada, Pollo]. I've gotten the tacos as well as the burritos here and they were both amazing! Be careful of the sauces though. The light green one is SPICY! But I love it. I would definitely recommend this place and I'll probably be back. The only downside is that it's pretty far and kind of in the middle of nowhere. read more

I really wanted to like this place but it was just okay. Nothing special. My son got an asada torta and he really liked it. I ordered an asada burrito and it was bland. No flavor at all. I thought the salsa might help but it didn't. I saw the cook making a shrimp dish and he used the same utensils for my asada so I can taste the shrimp in my burrito. Fortunately I don't have a seafood allergy. Might try it again to see if I just got a dud. read more

Ordered tacos, burritos, and tortas. All really delicious. I love mixing the guac salsa with the red and some lime = amazing and spicy. Just the way I like it. The al pastor is yummy. The cuts of meat seem better than their asada. The asada can have some cartilage/nervey chunks which is a bit gross but I love their al pastor more so def go for that read more

I've been trying to find the best Taco Tuesday deal in the South Bay for 3 years and I finally found it....can't believe this gem was hidden in Carson this whole time! $1.50 Tacos (Al Pastor, chicken, veggie, carnitas, tripe, & I think Cabeza?) & $3 Beers (modelo, Modelo negra, tecate, dos equis, IPAs, corona). Tacos are HUGE for the price. You can separate each one into TWO normal sizes street tacos. Tripe and cabeza sold out by the afternoon, so try to come as early as possible to try everything! Salsas were all decently spicy, even mild. That creamy green fire is a must. I'll be here every Tuesday for the rest of my lift if anyone wants to join. read more

I got the wet burrito with chicken and everything in it, side of beans, rice, and chips and salsa. The burrito I felt had too many onions and they were white and crunchy it also had cilantro I believe and I'm not of fan of their beans it was lacking flavor. The rice was pretty good. However the prices were very high in my opinion my meal was $30. Overall I just felt like the food was mid, just don't feel like I'm in a rush to go back. read more

Top shelf is so good and tasty! Q uality is just dripping from this place. My wife and I love the shrimp tacos and would occasionally order other things but shrimp tacos by far has been the tastiest within what we've tried! They also have very flavorful sauce choices and my favorite is the green sauce. It has a nice kick to it and man I'm getting hungry just by writing this review. Would definitely go back for more:) read more

Simple but very good. There is nothing fancy here. These are pretty authentic street tacos. You order the meat you want and they give you the corn tortillas with just the meat on them. Then you add your own toppings from a basic selection (onions, cilantro, jalepeños, and limes, and various hot sauces to choose from) They also have burritos (both wet and dry options) where they build it for you, but I just went with the tacos. I tried the carnitas, pastor, and adobo. The carnitas was my favorite of the three. Crispy big chucks of tender pork, with no fatty griddle. Perfect. The adobo and pastor seem more popular with reviewers. I though both were solid, but I still preferred the carnitas. I typically like to have a few more options for toppings (ie, tomatoes, cheese, etc) but that's not their thing here. But it's still very good. A solid choice for street tacos if you're in the area. read more

Hole in a wall with serious punch! Surprisingly, I enjoyed this place. It's very small and the location is off main streets. Heck the place itself is in a plaza that seems no one is going. But the food!!! It was awesome. We had tacos, shrimp, asada and birrie. We also had wet burrito asada. All was great. Shrimp tacos were a bit pricey but worth it. You can actually plump shrimps in your taco. The salsa bar was also great. Make sure to try the green hot guacamole salsa. It was fantastic. Lastly, try the frescas. Mint and cucumber lemonade and I had a mixed watermelon and pineapple drink. It was not very sweet so it was good. read more

Tuesday tacos for 1 buck, 2 dollars beers, and much more. The tacos were super tasty. You probably need to order like 6 to get full, but super well worth it. The flavor are well marinated and seasoned delicately. They also sell freshly squeezed juices for 5 bucks that are refreshing with the spice from the salsas. read more

I haven't eaten the food yet, still waiting. But got the south bay burrito and informed them of my avocado allergy and asked if they would sub more sour cream in place. They said yes and then charged me extra for the sour cream. Last I checked avocado had more retail value than sour cream. Could they have just honored my request at no extra charge? Yes they could have. Did they? No they did not. They simply added it without warning and charged me under the radar. I find that a bit unethical. What do you think? Answer me with a reply. Ok now I'm eating this thing (still chewing) It sells for $11 regular and almost $13 if you have an avocado allergy. The beans: BLAND the cheese: CHEAP The sour cream: GOOD The fries: couldn't taste them The carne asada: AVERAGE The tortilla: AVERAGE The salsa: TASTES LIKE THE CAN IT CAME OUT OF Does it taste like $11? NO Does it taste like $13? ABSOLUTELY NOT Will I return? NO On to the next place.... read more

Fantastic carne asada nachos and tacos! The meat was tender, tasty, and most importantly not greasy or fatty. I'm not really a nachos kinda person but the ones here is fresh and not junk food greasy. Reasonably priced and the place was clean and smelt so good with the meat and veggies grilling. Other favorites were the shrimp with vegetables. This will be our go to taco spot whenever my husband craves tacos! The person at the cashier was nice and helpful. The only request would be to offer a salsa that is really mild. The "mild" salsa here is way too spicy! read more
