This place is fascinating - it's small, unassuming, VERY casual. They serve Hawaiian food...but they also serve Indonesian food. That's a pretty unique combination. My parents are from Indonesia so that's really what drew me here... and I also spend a lot of time in Hawaii so that was an extra bonus. Their fried rice with Kalua Pork is absolutely delicious. My husband is addicted to katsus and he loves the katsu from here. I am dying to explore more of the menu - the fried chicken looked amazing but it is quite a large portion so we haven't gotten to that yet...but we will! read more

The owner of the restaurant is so sweet. There are very few places I know of that serve good Hawaiian food in L.A. and this is one of them. The food here is made fresh to order. Top Restaurant has my favorite plate lunches outside of Hawai'i. Without a doubt, their loco moco is better than any I've had in California and better than even some places back on O'ahu. The rich brown gravy is super flavorful and the burgers have a nice char. When I was growing up, I would order all rice because I didn't like Mac salad, but after leaving I've definitely developed a taste for it, and Top Restaurant's is very good. I also love their chicken cutlet, since they are one of the few places that have it as an actual menu item. Chicken cutlet is chicken katsu, but with gravy on top. It's sooo heavy and decadent in a good ways. Super tasty gravy goes so well with the chicken. We also really love their crispy fried chicken. It is super juicy and has a unique crunch. I wish they had more regularly cut up pieces because it always seems like there's a ton of bones, but that's a minor quibble. The only food we had that was a little disappointing was the fried oxtail plate. It didn't have a lot of flavor or meat and was pretty expensive. I'd skip that, but I still want to try the oxtail soup or oxtail fried rice. It's take out only as they don't have any tables inside. Service is always great here. Came here today to pick up some take out! This place has been on my list for a while now and finally got a chance to stop by. I'm a big fan of the variety of foods they have - kind of a Hawaiian/Indonesian spot. They have their own lot so great props to that and is located new PCC. I ordered 2 spam masubis, 1 chicken katsu plate, 1 galbi plate, and 1 Indonesian fried rice. I liked all of the things I ordered. The spam masubis were definitely smaller than what I'm used to for the price you pay. Nevertheless, it was delicious and flavorful. The chicken katsu was probably my favorite of all of them. It was super crispy even after a 40 mins drive. The sauce they gave us wasn't the typical katsu sauce but more like a watery katsu/bbq sauce. It came with 2 scoops of rice and mac salad. You definitely get what you paid for. I wanted to really like the galbi plate but to me, that one fell short of my expectations. I prefer other Hawaiian bbq places to have a more charred version of the galbis and this place just didn't have that. The Indonesian fried rice was good but to me, nothing really wow-ed me about it. For some reasons, there were random noodles in my dish also (which I don't mind but I don't think it's suppose to belong there). I was a bit disappointed when one of my favorite Pasadena spots was highlighted on Instagram as my secret spot was now no longer a secret. Hands down one of the best fried chicken I've had. It's different from your Popeyes and KFC. I'd consider it asian style fried chicken. Portions are generous and there's pretty much nothing we've ordered that we didn't like. Every time I have friends over for dinner, this is the spot they always request. The cherry on top is that the service is always fast and friendly. The food is freshly made and has a homemade taste that sets it apart from other restaurants. We were deciding on a place for lunch and found this restaurant on Yelp. It's a really mom and pop shop located in a small, obscure plaza. However, the food was pretty good, especially the chicken katsu, which was the best that I've had so far. Chicken Katsu: this was the best plate here, the chicken Katsu was cooked to perfection and had the perfect balance of crispy and flavor. I could absolutely eat this without sharing with others! Indonesian Fried Egg Noodle (Mie Tek Tek): pretty flavorful noodles that I wouldn't mind getting again to share. Oseng Spicy Chicken Fried Rice: we decided to give this a try and it turned out pretty good. I wouldn't mind getting this again, but only to share. Kalua Pork: surprisingly, this was not good. We were not fans of the kalua pork and felt that the flavors were severely lacking. Overall, we had a good lunch here and everyone unanimously agreed that the chicken katsu was amazing. They have awesome fried chicken ! I'd recommend you to try their crispy fried chicken. It was bomb! It's different style like other fried chicken like popeyes/kfc . It has some sweet flavoring to it that's different from any other fried chicken style. I think it's one of their signature as well. This is a pick up only place! Staff is very friendly, and is patient and will answer your questions if it's your first time visiting. We tried both the Hawaiian and Indonesian menu, and have to say that the Indonesian menu is definitely so much better!! The fried noodles have to be some of the best noodle dishes I've ever tasted. I really want to try the fried chicken, but they're always sold out! Another reviewer noted that they only make 40 something orders every day at a limit of 1 order per customer. The items were pretty tasty and flavorful, especially that BBQ Chicken Musubi! I like the teriyaki sweet sauce that they use, and the rice was cooked perfectly, which is always expected! I went in to order takeout, and asked the cashier if I should order their Indonesian fried rice (their popular item), or something else. She suggested that if I like spicy I need to try the Oseng Fried Rice, and to get the combo if I want to try a bit of everything (chicken, beef, shrimp). It is (not was - I'm still eating it) SO GOOD!! The protein is perfectly cooked, and the fried rice itself is so, so delicious. Their regular level spice is pretty spicy, so beware if you don't generally eat hot foods. Finally got a chance to try out this fried chicken that everyone has been raving about. The skin is crispy, I'll give it that. Unfortunately, I had pieces that were dry on the inside and not much meat to them. Plus, the taste didn't wow me like I was hoping for. I arrived early. The quoted wait time was 25-30 mins. Maybe my mistake was telling them I would be right back. I figured I can take care of something else while they prepped my food. When I got back, they said my order was next. Mind you, I had been gone for 25 mins already. As I sat there waiting, I had to ask to see what happened to my order since I've been waiting another 25 mins since I've been back. On a Thursday night in early January, I called ahead for pick up of 2 chicken katsu dinner plates-regular size $9.29 each. While waiting in my car, I seen 5 Pasadena firefighters ordering food here so their food must be good. At 5:10pm, I was greeted by the friendly owner and chatted with her for few minutes. No new menus available yet. My food was already and I drove home. I didn't greet my hubby instead I had to take a first bite of Katsu. This was my first time trying musubi and I didn't think they could be that good since it's just rice, seaweed, and one topping. But wow they were so good !!! I don't know what they put in their sauce but it complemented the spam/chicken/rice combination so well. I was expecting to like the spam more since it's a safer choice, but the chicken was SO GOOD. Flavor was ok, but couldn't get past the texture and didn't finish the little beef there was on the bone. I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat tonight, but I kept wanting Top! What I love most about this place is how consistent it is. How consistently good it is! The Indonesian Fried rice has a ton of flavor and is a fried rice with some noodles tossed in as well. It is not for everyone, but I love it. What would make it a tad better though is if the egg was cooked over easy so that it would run. I'll request that next time. The short rib was very good and super tender! I had it last time in the family combo and wanted to have it again, so I asked for a side order. The spam Masubi is good, but not great. However, it does the job! The katsu Masubi though is fantastic! It's crispy and you get a great difference of texture from the rice and the katsu. And you have to wash it all down with a Hawaiian fruit drink! Once I saw the Guava juice in the fridge, I knew I had to get it! But the Hawaiian Punch is fantastic as well!
