Do Not Pass Go. We went to Top Pot on 5th Ave as a recommendation. We threw away our $5 worth of 3 doughnuts. Apple Fritter - you could taste the grease before you even closed your lips around it. The old fashioned glazed... not the grease issue, but nothing that makes you go... damn, oral orgasm indeed! The Chocolate old fashioned glazed met with the same fate. I have never paid $5 for 3 doughnuts. Can you say Rip Off? You want GREAT tasting doughnuts without the wannabe attitude of staff and food? The Original Bakery near Fauntleroy Ferry is the BEST or make a trip to Cle Elum to the Cle Elum Bakery. I promise, you'll know what you are missing at Top Pot. Everything. Top Pot is not worthy of even 1 Star. read more

Great coffee and tea, although I've not tried the donuts yet! It's on the 'must-do' list, so I'll get to it eventually. Most of the staff are pleasant enough, although I have to wonder if the typical choices of music are the result of some secretly-conducted Pavlovian experiment.....maybe a little too 'hip' for those of us over the age of 25. Otherwise, the wi-fi is great, and now that the smoking ban is in place, this is a great place to go, inside as well as outside. read more

My husband grabbed some pieces of these doughnuts from work one day so I could finally taste the wonder that is Top Pot. And now I understand the reviews. Pink frosted? Yummy. Old fashioned? Yummy. Blueberry? Yummy. Chocolate cake style? Yummy. Chocolate/walnut dipped? Yummy. Maple? Yummy. Yummy yummy nummy nummy *drool* read more

I was a little skeptical when I heard all the ranting and raving about how great Top Pot is but after coming here for breakfast my cynicism was dispelled. I'm not the world's biggest donut fan but I am a sucker for the occasional Boston Creme (or Bavarian Creme as they call it here) and the one I had at Top Pot was the best I'd ever had. Add in good coffee and friendly employees and I'm not sure what more you could ask for. If I ever some back to Seattle I'm hitting up Top Pot for breakfast again. read more

I just moved about a block away from this place, and I have to tell you I am incredibly happy. Free wifi in a cozy living room-like setting? Yes, please. I will take two. In the time it would take me to make it myself, I was able to walk over, grab a chai and an apple fritter and walk home and enjoy it. Not that I know how to make an apple fritter. The chai was amazingly good. I am definitely hanging out here more often, and I don't even like coffee. read more

There are only two kinds of people in the world. People who love doughnuts and liars. If you're the former, you'll love top pot and declare your affection from the mountain top. If you're the latter you will love top pot but whisper it in a dark cave. I say get a maple old fashioned and proclaim your true feelings. read more

I wish I could give no stars. Waited in line for a solid 7 minutes then got up to the counter and the woman left the counter to fill donuts with out ever saying anything. Waited another five minutes till she came back and said to us "I'm just gonna fill the donuts real quick" uhhhh ok, but we just want a cup of drip coffee. We left. So stupid. read more

Oh Top Pot!!! My favorite coffee shop in all of Seattle. The donuts are delicious and I really appreciate the range of flavors and also enjoy that they stick with more traditional, practical flavors (no cereal-topped donuts..). The raspberry glazed donut is probably the best donut I've ever had. The coffee is also my favorite coffee in Seattle. Perfect Sunday morning stop. read more

One of my first stops when moving to Seattle was the famous (or infamous) Top Pot. I am a donut fiend (as many who know me can attest to) and I had to try this place out. I will not go into too much detail but my favorites remain...pink feather boa, pumpkin spice, apple spice, chocolate raised, and any old fashioned. Sadly however I have had much better donuts, mostly from Mom & Pops and restaurants. I still happen over to Summit once in awhile for a good coffee, a boa, and free wifi. Life is good on the Hill! read more

This is one of those places where I think the leaders of the world should get together to discuss and solves world issues. It's large enough to hold a pretty large crowd and has the perfect amount of ambient noise making important conversations audible to only those participating, without fear of being ease dropped on. It's a very smart place too. It's the kind of place people talk about local election scandals as well as the latest in vegetable growth science. Plus, people are just more relaxed when having coffee and sweets. Oh yeah, the doughnuts are the best in the city. The price is premium, but you get hearty, fluffy, sweet (but not too sweet) baked goods that pair perfectly with expertly crafted coffee beverages. read more

The doughnuts are good, they make good apple cider and have some good teas. Most importantly, I'm pretty sure that whenever I go there, I can find a place to sit and it won't be incredibly loud or crazy. Top Pot is a good place for me to go to get some real work done while enjoying something nice to drink or eat. One downside is that with its' location, parking can occasionally be tough to come by. The other problem is that they only stay open until 11pm during the summer. It'd be nice if they had those hours all year round. read more

The chocolate raspberry cake donut was easily 5 stars, so fluffy and light tasting without being too sweet, but the others I tried were average (I tried more than 6 of them). However, they were out of the maple bars so I'll have to go back sometime to see if they are worth committing a crime for. read more

I'm not a big donut fan, but the hours old coconut and chocolate donut I had around 6PM was pretty tasty. Probably great fresh. Also had an americano. Not too shabby. Seemed cozy inside, but I sat outside. read more

Is it weird that I find this location sexy? Surrounded by books, wooden planks, iron, fried dough, and coffee....what's not to love? Maybe someday I'll venture away from my usual apple fritters but why? They're so damn good! read more

I've had Top Pot doughnuts before when colleagues have brought them to work and have never been too impressed. However, by actually going to one of their stores I must have gotten fresher doughnuts, because my glazed doughnut was delicious and the doppio I got with it was almost as good. But not only can I recommend the eats, I think the atmosphere is exactly what I picture when I imagine friendly neighbourhood doughnut shop. Maybe it's time for me to one morning have a great Seattle doughnut-off, and this Top Pot location will definitely be a contender. read more

top pot! i've always thought of top pot as a coffee place, not a doughnut place. i don't really like coffee, so i never paid much attention to it (especially while coffee messiah was still open). a few weeks ago, i went there with a friend who wanted to get coffee so she would be AWAKE for the buffy musical sing-along. i had decided to get some doughnuts and treats so that i would have some delicious starches to eat in her gluten free household. it was right before they closed, so the selection was sparse. my apple fritter (bear claw! bear claw!) was delicious, and my blueberry scone was... sconey. but it was TORTURE, guys, TORTURE because while i was purchasing these things, i could see fresh doughnuts being made in the back of the shop. but i was not allowed to eat them, as they were for the next day. boo. read more

I don't even like doughnuts, but I like Top Pot. The doughnuts are cakey and filling; the coffee is great; and the service is friendly and efficient. I love taking the long walk down the street to Top Pot on a lazy weekend morning. read more

I love this top pot it's so cozy and the perfect thing to have in the neighborhood. I've come here to work a few times, it's quiet but it's a bit dark. Of course the doughnuts are delicious (Pershing is my favorite) and the coffees great too. read more

As a former Capitol Hill denizen and longtime donut lover, I get why people like Top Pot, why there are now branches all over the city, and why pretty much every coffee shop in the Seattle carries their baked goods. The donuts are thick, dense, and extremely rich. However, they are also too heavy, too oily, and just plain too much. Besides, Top Pot is a bit of a one trick pony; there are almost no variations between the different donut varieties. I'm sorry, but a cruller should not have the same consistency as an old-fashioned donut. The coffee is good, but the shop is almost always overcrowded. Half a Top Pot donut is fine once in awhile, but I would seek out other options. read more

This shop is hidden. I live on CapHill, but always drove down to Belltown for a Top Pot doughnut. Finally, one day, I found it...oh man, So good...and so close! read more

About two nights ago I had a dream about going to the legendary Seattle doughnut and Coffee chain. They make doughnuts the old fashioned way, which from what I am told requires some archaic machine and whole elaborate method that Krispy Kreme has since bastardized. The result is a delectable more cake like creation, which reaches the right amount of sweetness. They make classic glazed, chocolate, creme filled in addition to pink boa, which is a strawberry iced doughnut with coconut that gives it feathery appearance. I make a point to only come here once a month because this place a version of heaven for me, not only do they have fantastic doughnuts they also make some of the best coffee in town. When you walk into their original location in Capital Hill, it reminds if 1950's bakery where to meet the stacks area of a library. Complete with Formica top tables and shelves of books that were most likely bought at a library sale or a yard sale. Most people who stay and eat their doughnut and drink their Joe, usually brink their Mac Ibooks, so they can review photos from their vacations, update their myspace, blog, or edit photos for the porn collection. The patrons are very nice over all as are the employees who work here. read more

i have to admit that i don't really get all the fuss about this place. the doughnuts are ok, but i've had better. plus they are a dollar each, which i think is steep for a pastry.. the interior is cozy and a great place to drink a warm beverage, catch up with friends or do some reading/people watching. for great doughnuts, i would go elsewhere, for ambience while you eat your sweet treat, this is your place. read more

Not a big donut fan, but I would much prefer this place over Krispy Kreme any day of the week. Bought a couple dozen for my co-workers and they all loved them. I only like sprinkled cake donuts on the rare occasion I would have a donut, and theirs was very good! read more

A great place. All the top pot's have a beautiful location but aside from great donuts, the space is stunning. I love to come here and work. read more

Since my last review, I've become a gluten-intolerant gal. Boo hiss! Still go back for a mocha but the lines are often long and it's a bit expensive. It's still a cute shop, but there are many other coffee shop options around here that are worth trying. read more

They have the friendliest down to earth staff. Environment is warm and friendly. Local vibe is still alive and if you live in the neighborhood you will run into a friend. The coffee hits the sweet spot especially when they use the ephemere chocolate! The coffee the coffee the coffee!!!!!! read more

How I miss this place! Living two blocks away was dangerous for my arteries but there is always a special place in my heart for the Raspberry Ring. I loved the Chocolate Sandcastle and the Apple Fritters were so yummy. How could you NOT like Top Pot...it's HAND FORGED donuts. I made lots of friends at work whenever I bought in a dozen to share. The cake style donuts were a little too heavy for me but were a treat on a special occasion. I wish I could eat one now. read more

Love the handmade donuts here and the decor (the converted library is great).

My expectations were set pretty high after reading the reviews, but I was a little disappointed.. they tasted better than grocery store doughnuts of course! But nothing I felt was worth driving 30mins for. Plus when I asked the cashier about the doughnuts, she didn't show much interest in telling me what doughnut was what.. some didn't have labels on what they were, which is why i asked. I did like the seating & setting though! read more

This is my favorite Top Pot store. Being located in a residential area really gives the store a neighborhood-ey feel. Is neighborhood-ey a word? It's a great place to take shelter from the Seattle rain and read a book. It's not as busy or as loud as the Starbucks on Olive. Also, why get a Top Pot doughnut from Starbucks when you can get it from the source. read more

Coffee is fantastic actually (didn't like it in my older review) and the old fashioned donuts are so so tasty.

Who doesn't love a Top Pot! I've always been a fan of this location and love sipping my coffee in the window seats while enjoying my Bullseye donut. Friendly staff, and a great cup of coffee as well. Their donuts are always fresh and delicious. Big fan - I'll be back. read more

We always get a donut here when in town. It's a nice setting, with good music, and casual vibe. The donuts are always good and fresh. What more could you ask for? read more

Due to its close proximity to my current residence, I visit this place almost every morning, even on weekends. Not only does it have amazing drip coffee, I also love the wide variety of donuts they have (has anyone tried them all yet?). You can go REALLY SWEET or just a tid bit sweet or not at all. Personally though, I gotta recommend the Green Tea Bread with Red Beans. It has a hint of macha but is still soft as a pound cake and the sweet read beans within definitely adds to this wonderful little treat! And it can only be found on the Cap Hill Top Pot to my knowledge, I looked like a fool when I asked for it in the Belltown one....heehee. read more

I didn't get a chance to go top pot doughnuts but I got to try one at the Starbucks at the Auburn location. I must say, once you see a top pot doughnut, it will be hard not to buy one! read more

Big fan of the unpretentious and chill environment here. They have decent-sized tables to spread out for one or two people, and plenty of plugs. Plus, their donuts and coffee are solid (I don't know about awesome...) read more

Top Pot is great. I like going back to Seattle and getting fresh Top Pot donuts instead of those half stale versions that they sell at Starbucks. The various flavors are so much better when you go into the shop. I had an old-fashioned Raspberry donut and got my mom a chocolate coconut boa donut. The coffee here is good too. It's just nice to have a neighborhoody doughnut and coffee shop that is much nicer than one of those disgusting Winchell's or Dunkin Donuts. Why oh why can't Top Pot put a shop in NYC?! The only competition is The doughnut plant. Everything else pales in comparison. read more

Great place if you catch it early in the morning and the doughnuts are fresh. It is worth waiting in line for. Sometimes I wash that their maple bars were not extra huge. read more

Good, slightly expensive coffee served in an interesting, comfortable room with books for reading and wifi. Nice baristas. Quiet street. Right on the #14 bus line. The donuts will make a believer out of you. read more
