We are on our honeymoon and had a couple changes due to weather. We pulled in to this pleasant little inn and was happy they had a room. There was the sweetest lady who checked us in. The room was adorable and SUPER clean. The bed was PERFECT. I'm usually hesitant to stay in small inns or motels but this stay has 100% changed my mind. No more corporate stays for us. THANK YOU Top Notch Inn for paying so much attention to detail.

They claim to have blackout shades. Hahaha!

Um, I like this place, but don't glorify what you don't offer. The television selection is beyond unacceptable. I don't want to watch Home Shopping and certainly not God channels all day!

Great view of the sunset at the Top Notch Inn...

Nice room with everything we needed. For the price it is a great place to stay with the kids and close to all the attractions.

I was a little nervous at first when we saw all of the ATVs in the parking lot.

Thankfully, I was situated within the Pool building on the inside so it had more of a Hotel than Motel feeling. Plus this typically affords more peace and quiet. The hotel boasts a Golf Course, Indoor Pool, Hot Tub, Sauna, Steam Room, Arcade, and Restaurant; all of which really set them apart and above the local competition. I look forward to returning next time I find myself in the area! Good show!

So when it came time for dinner, there did not seem to be too many places in the area. So I thought I'd try the attached restaurant. The dining room was quite large. I was quickly seated and was one of a hand full of patrons in the room. I decided to try the special: beer battered shrimp, salad (forgot to tell her to hold the croutons), baked potato and broccoli. I was served a mini loaf of hot, standard recipe white bread with whipped "butter." My rant: There should be a law against restaurants calling margarine "butter". As nicely whipped and pretty as it presented, this "butter" was MARGARINE - the old fashioned, cheap kind. No "touch of cream" or buttermilk or half and half. It was terrible, as was the bread. The salad was leaf lettuce, red onion, cherry tomatoes, shredded carrots, and once I removed the abundant croutons, was decent. The baked potato was - well - a baked potato, which I chose not to ruin with MARGARINE. The broccoli was over cooked to the point of having some pieces that were scorched. The highlight of the plate were the 4 jumbo, beer battered shrimp. They were delicious; however, I wanted some tartar sauce to go with them. It took me 5 minutes of waving my arms to finally catch the eye of A busboy. He wanted to know who my waitress was. I couldn't tell him but the Hostess came and got the sauce for me. Evidently, the one waitress I saw working, also worked the bar and other eating area which is not in sight of the dining room. That seemed problematic to me. It is summer time. This is a recreational area. I assume that this Resort relies on tourists to keep going. It is Monday night. Perhaps that made the difference in service levels. I don't blame the waitress - she had a lot of area to cover. The Beer Battered Shrimp, I could eat all day. They were delicious. Serving scorched broccoli was unacceptable. And if you're going to serve margarine, please don't call it butter - butter substitute maybe, but not butter.

Colonial Fort Inn - Headboard on right was dangling from a single nail when we got there. Lights were hanging sideways, too. Had to prop upright.

Maybe I was expecting too much. I stayed here thinking it would be an improvement over the motel…read moreacross the street, but I was mistaken. This might be the worst room I have ever stayed in. The room we stayed in was in the furthest room from the main office. Upon arriving the room had an awful smell (kinda like feet mixed with sour cream potato chips). The bathroom was so small that you could barely fit between the sink and the wall to use the toilet. The linens were soiled and has red marks (blood?) on them. The most alarming thing of all was the quantity of hair that was scattered around the room. There was clumps of hair that looked like they were actually painted into the wall. It looked like someone has been scalped in the bathroom. The bed was stiff and uncomfortable and the TV was barely functional. I would recommend staying anywhere else in the Gorham/Berlin area. The breakfast wasn't very good either

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST! Avoid at all cost…read more.. We booked this motel over the phone while traveling. When we got there and saw the place from the outside, we might have reconsidered had we not already provided our credit card for the reservation. So we checked in, thinking we could handle it. Boy, was that a mistake! The furniture was a collection of mismatched odds and ends that I swear came out of a junkyard. And the room was filthy. I mean really, really dirty. I used one of my old shirts to dry my face when I washed up rather than use their towels! The filthy indoor-outdoor carpet was there to cover the rotting/missing floor boards underneath - one of which caught my foot, causing me to fall and bash my knee (the bruise lasted for weeks!). The headboards were hung on nails, one of which had fallen out, leaving the headboard dangling at an angle. I lifted the other end off and rested it on the floor in fear of it falling on me in the night. The refrigerator (no, we didn't use it!) was standing on a homemade plywood and 2x4 'table'. And the smell in the room... I don't even want to know what the smell was all about. In short, I would recommend sleeping in your car before spending a night in this place. Dreadful !!!
