My wife and I have travelled in 42 states (until now) and we have stayed in every kind of hotel and motel you can imagine. Nancy is the most helpful and responsive motel manager we have met. And always with a smile. I know - that should be the norm. But it's very, very rare nowadays. So, cudos to you Nancy, and I hope the onwers know how lucky they are. The managers and owners Brian and his wife Ruby have restored this motel built in the fifties to its original glory with a lot of nice touches. We we're wishing we able to check out the live music that was featured on Friday and Saturday but because of the wedding festivities we missed it. The continental breakfast was better than most I've had in a motel or hotel. Great coffee and real milk with a large variety of things to eat. The best part was learning about some of the amazing features of the building like a hidden cigar bar placed in a perfect original setting complete with a special ventilation system to remove the smoke from the room. The rooms are very simple and I love the minimalist look- exposed brick, no cheesy motel art. the beds are really comfortable and the sheets are nice with a simple white duvet (no cheesy motel bedspreads) and lovely pillows. The Seven Dwarfs is on a road a mile away from the main road and that REALLY makes a difference. If you're looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy yourself, stay here. I stayed in the "Happy" suite. King bed. Entry room that was separate from room with the bed & seating. Entry room had a mini fridge & a place to hang coats and clothes. AC in my room as well. They cleaned my room the next day. They have bigger units with kitchenettes as well as a jacuzzi suite. The owners have been running this place for 35 years and have a lovely dog. This place has manicured grounds and flowers so wonderful you can smell them the second you step outside. They have a play area for kids, horse shoe toss, a volleyball net, walking trails, BBQ, fire pit, picnic area (the last 3 overlook a river which you can swim in. The river was low when I was here but I still went in and when I sat down it was chest height.) They also have a screened in area with a picnic table if it happens to be buggy. Plenty of outdoor seating. Bring your own fire wood. Also, bring your own firewood if you book a room with a fireplace. They don't sell it here anymore, but you can buy it down the road at Fosters. I did & it wasn't a hassle at all. You can hear the river from your room and it's so relaxing. I can't stress enough how much of a difference not being on the main road makes. The serenity of the Seven Dwarfs really made this trip. Their website says they offer a breakfast, but the owner said they no longer do that (like they no longer have fire wood here) because it's just he & his wife running the place and he's getting older and has to work nights. When I heard him say that, I really wasn't disappointed at all. I mean, stuff like having to drive down the road for food might seem like an inconvenience to some people, but you're staying in northern NH. Part of the draw is the down to earth community. If you want to stay in some bourgeoisie hotel chain, maybe the Twin Mountains area isn't for you. Anyways, there are many other places to eat for cheap around here, and my room had a fridge. You can always stay in a unit with a kitchenette if you want to make yourself food Like another user said, the theme is cute and kitsch without going overboard. This motel isn't cabin style, but I had neighbors on either side of me and I couldn't hear them at all. It felt secluded and very cosy. If you're unsure of whether to stay here or not, I'd suggest coming by and checking it out for yourself. The pictures on their site don't do it justice.

Great for just hanging by the river and then heading back to the room. The free range chickens running around kept my daughter busy for a few hours. The room was large and the bed was comfortable. It's dated. Very dated , but like I said it's 76 bucks for the night. It wast dirty, just old. I cooked lunch in the kitchen and the full size fridge was key. My only complaint was the room was a little smelly. I can do old, but not smelly. Time to replace carpets and a few other upgrades to get people coming back. Overall. My daughter had a blast, running around the huge yard, swinging on the horse swing, and playing in the river. Peaceful, quiet and cheap. I enjoyed it, if the room didn't smell I'd bring my family back for sure.

Joe Dodge Lodge has been the absolute HIGHLIGHT of our trip. We had initially planned on 3 nights…read moreat 3 different huts and just our 1st night at Joe Dodge--but the weather took a shocking and ugly and dangerous turn at our first hut, so we were so happy they modified our reservation and we could finish out our trip there. The food: AMAZING! All you can stuff your face with, mostly healthy, hearty, comforting and DELICIOUSLY made meals. Great bread, salads, pasta, soups for dinner and all the fixings for a FULL breakfast: eggs, bacon, French toast, pretty much anything you want! Staff: Gracious, kind, reassuring. The folks in the gift shop and front desk were WONDERFUL & they KNOW the trails and the mountains & were so patient with us--being new to hiking. Our actual hikes were TOUGH....ass-whipping, really....I almost cried tears of joy just hobbling back to the quiet and warm solitude of the Lodge (the huts are waaay different--not for introverts who crave quiet and aren't "super social".). This was my favorite part of staying at the Lodge; you can tell solo hikers could find others to connect with --if they wished--but you and your honey could ALSO dine in a full room of strangers and still not feel pressured into interacting with others if you didn't want to. Sorry for the rambling review but I can't believe this place doesn't have more recent reviews and I hope it gets all the accolades it deserves!

The price of the lodging is not cheap as you pay per person for a bunk bed set up with shared bathroom, but they offer a lot of services that make up for it including all you can dinner and breakfast buffet as well as the ability to borrow gear for the hike (I borrowed a smaller back pack and trekking poles). The staff is super friendly and informative. They also have a cozy library towards the back of the lodge equipped with a fire place and comfy lounge chairs. Would definitely consider staying here again.

The rooms are small but clean. The bed is comfortable enough for my rather heavy frame. The amenities are space but what they offer are well maintained by an extremely friendly staff. They offer a little breakfast buffet in the morning. Although it is mostly packaged food it was always fresh, the coffee was hot and tasty. Above all the breakfast area was extremely clean and inviting. When looking for an inexpensive clean place for the night, this place fits the bill perfectly.
