I want to update my review, the first time I came was when they first opened. They have really perfected the recipes, orders, service and even expanded. I'd love to come and try one of their drinks(they now have a full bar in the expanded part, great idea!) First and foremost, The sauces have been tweaked and taste a lot better than my first visit. This was my biggest complaint I had. They are all different and they've added a couple. My personal favorite is the citrus habanero. It's the perfect amount of sweet and spicy, it's a must try if you can handle a little spice! They also have daily specials, I'm not sure if they are just for lunch or if they run all day. I've tried quite a bit of the menu now and am very pleased. Some of my favorites are the sweet tea chicken(coming from someone who doesn't even like sweet tea ;P ), the Cuban sandwich, pulled pork, brisket and blue salad, 4 pigs and a cow. All the sides are made in house and are fresh such as the collards, green beans, coleslaw, chili(really good) and those jalapeños are sooo good. The Mac n cheese has also been better too! Everything has been fairly consistent there's still the issue with the garlic bread not being toasted on both sides which makes me sad, occasionally I get lucky and it will happen. But everything else it really very good. I'm really happy to have them close by and to see them doing well. The cornbread is really good. It's not dryer than the dessert like some places where you can't even finish a bite and you need to chug a full glass of water but at Top Hog, they know how to make cornbread, It was delicious. There's still quite a few things I look forward to trying! They are opening other locations around Gainesville and I will continue to give them my business! Give them a try if you tried them in the beginning and weren't impressed, they have worked out the kinks and become a great restaurant. You Can't really ask for more: they had some beginners flaws and Figured out how fixed them and executed a job well done. It's now our go to Friday spot! We ditched our other bbq place for This one, it's fresher and closer! Yay.

First time we were here was outstanding!!! Second time.....not so much. We ordered drinks and they weren't what we thought we ordered but we were confused with what they were so we didn't say anything. My husbands dinner was pretty good. Pulled pork, brisket, grits, and fried plantains. I ordered the fried chicken salad which I LOVED on our first visit. The chicken was too thin but a thick coat of breading, and not hot. It seemed as if they had made it hours ago. We'll come back but this was pretty disappointing after our first visit.

Pork and Briaket with 1/3 rack of ribs

After a long day of playing disc golf in Florida, BBQ is so satisfying. Well, BBQ is satisfying for me at anytime. Haha But I found Top Hog 5 minutes from my disc golf course. Do not be fooled with it being in a strip mall with Publix. This is legitimate Florida BBQ. I ordered the pork and brisket combo and added 1/3 rack of ribs. All the meat was phenomenal. I would rate the ribs first, pork 2nd, then brisket. The ribs were grilled, easy to chew, and had a citrus BBQ glaze similar or exactly the same as their Top Hog sauce. The pork was tender and moist. The brisket was good. A bite or two of it was dry so that is why I rated it below the ribs and pork. There are 5 sauces - Top Hog (tangy tomato with citrus added), spicy (tomato), sweet (tomato with sugar and a hint of citrus), mustard (a spicy mustard), and vinegar. I liked the sweet the best followed by the spicy, Top Hog, mustard, and vinegar. The mustard and vinegar only went well with the pork in my opinion. My 2 sides were mac and cheese and beans. Both were delicious. The mac and cheese was creamy and had black pepper added to it. The baked beans were made with 3 different type of beans and I think pulled pork. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! I ate out in the parking lot and they gave me a refill. I have seen a restaurant or 2 not be cool and give refills. I will add Top Hog to my list of BBQ places to stop at in Gainesville.

2 meets and 2 sides: pulled pork, brisket, macaroni and cheese, and baked beans

I ordered takeout via DoorDash from the Jonesville Top Hog location one night, getting the BBQ Combo, which includes a choice of 2 meets and 2 sides. I ordered the pulled pork, brisket, macaroni and cheese, and baked beans. The meats were about what you'd expect but the portions felt really small, even for a takeout order. The baked beans had great flavor but the macaroni and cheese was pretty dry and flavorless. You get to choose between Texas toast and cornbread. I went with the Texas toast. Overall, Top Hog wasn't bad, though I would like to experience it while dining-in to compare what the flavors (and portion sizes) are like hot off the grill.

Gluten free cuban and fries!

This is half a gluten free cuban and fries. It is the SECOND CUBAN we ordered in the same sitting. Melted brisket sandwich gluten free. Brownie sundae gluten free. This place is amazing! The GF bread is not all a hamburger bun but GF white bread and GF sub! Thank you! Great service! Fantastic!

I really like TH. It's reasonably priced and the smoked meats are excellent. I've ordered catering and had lunch here several times and have enjoyed each experience. Call me crazy, but I think it's the best Q in GNV.

Good customer service. They tried too hard on the mac and cheese. Pork sandwich was decent. French fries were underdone.

We show up to eat at 2:22 and they said closed 2 - 4:30. Why? Who knows. The site said open 11 - 9. So they lost my business.

I went on a group ride with some folks that like to go out to breakfast on Mondays, and they had…read morechosen Farmhouse 1906 this time around. Entering it kind of reminds you of a farmhouse, I guess. Pretty standard furnishings and decoration for a country diner sort of place. Of course, we were there for breakfast, so the standard diner breakfast was on the menu. The full menu consists of burgers, sandwiches, and a couple of barbecue dishes. If there were more screens mounted on the walls I would call it a sportsbar, but that isn't the case. Our orders were taken, and I had gone for eggs, hashbrowns, and corned beef because it was St Patty's Day. Realistically one of the few times that I have legitimately had food that was appropriate for the holiday. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time for a group of ten, so the kitchen and staff knew what they were doing. The food was fine... nothing to really shout out about, but also not bad. It was what I expected it to be, and that was good enough.

1906 Farmhouse 25405 W Newberry Rd, Newberry, FL 32669…read more ***SWILL ALERT*** Pulling up to the hitchin' post at the 1906 Farmhouse, all seemed well and fine. I don't mind themed restaurants (they can be fun). This place was designed to model the Farmhouse where the ranch hands gathered for meals before and after a long day of riding. I dug it. It gave off a warm, welcoming, one-of-the-family vibe. Kasey was my server for the meal and she was frowning before I asked one question. I placed an order for one Country Fried Steak with sides of Collard Greens and Mac & Cheese, along with some Strawberry Shortcake to round out the meal. I soon saw Cantankerous Kasey begrudgingly returning with my victuals. I don't understand this attitude. Am I supposed to be grateful she deigned to work here? Anyway, if any of you are curious like me, you may have often wondered what it was like to spend a day in jail. To that end, I admit, I got myself hauled off to the County Hoosegow. Wanting to make the most out of my tax dollars, I booked my stay to include lunch. The dry bologna sandwich you receive, along with the juice bag to wash it down, is something you try to forget. As I looked at the slop my trustee, Kasey, placed before me, I began to long for the county jail government issue bologna. The Country Fried Steak was fresh from the freezer and cooked with the precision of Stevie Wonder passing his behind-the-wheel driving test. I've been hit with hockey pucks softer than this garbage. The gravy was made in the Sysco factory and this had to be their bottom-grade slush. It was as tasty as flour and water. Wait. The sides were a step down from the entree, if that is possible. Just look at the pictures and tell me, does anything look appetizing? While I am not one to ever judge a book by its cover, as looks can be deceiving. In this case, they are not, and the adage 'a picture speaks a thousand words' is spot on. The Collard Greens were obviously from an industrial can. Hey, don't get me wrong, all restaurants use a food service, but you don't have to be cheap about it and try to finagle the dining population by using the lowest quality they have to offer. The Mac & Cheese looked more like something a dog regurgitated than actual food. It was dry and pasty on the palate--just the way it is not supposed to be. The Strawberry Shortcake is also food service, not unlike the stuff you got in high school, only worse. Kudos, 1906 Farmhouse, you officially serve Swill sans the fly. At least on this visit. The Big Boy says, "I wouldn't serve this SWILL to a dead dog."
