Here's my first 1 star yelp review, and I took time to write it as it reflects my frustration with Top Garage Door. Think twice before scheduling an appointment with this company. I purchased a high end garage door opener through amazon.com and opted for professional installation. Amazon automatically made an appointment with Top Garage Door. When I searched for their reviews online, I found a few other customers who were frustrated about the technician being late (or not showing up at all). Since my service had already been paid for, I decided to give him a call to make sure that he will come on time. He was aware of the appointment and said that he will show up to get my opener replaced. On my appointment day (during my appointment time), he calls back to give me a long story about the issues with his truck. At the end he said that he was not able to make it and wanted to reschedule for another day. I'm usually busy working during the week, and I did not want to 'wait and see if he will come next weekend'. I told him that won't be necessary. A few minutes later he calls back to say that he can be at my place in 30-40minutes. As soon as I said "No I will just cancel the service", he just hung up the phone on me. Rudeness aside, it is apparent that Don's having issues with his tardiness. If he's truck has been giving him trouble all this week, he should have taken a day off to get it completely repaired. For the nature of his business (mobile) it is critical to have a reliable transportation. What good would his excellent skills do if he can't show up on time? read more

Don from Top Garage Door recently installed a new garage door in my home despite the very low ceiling. I am very satisfied with the quality of his work, his knowledge, and his experience. We had requested other quotes before, where the companies did not know how to install with such low ceilings. As soon as Don came by to see our garage, he knew right away he would have to utilize the rear-torsion springs. And he knew exactly how to do it. Ordering the materials for our garage door, rear-torsion springs, and garage door opener, etc. took about a month. It was a little longer than the time frame he gave us (3 weeks), but it probably wasn't his fault. He was able to complete the installation in 4 hours. They moved quickly, and you could tell he knew what he was doing. Now our new garage door opens very quietly, and it looks great. (Especially compared to the old, heavy, and worn one-piece wooden garage door we had). First, my garage door is quite old fashion style and the tension spring doesn't work well. I called around in the area and there was even a 5-star rating company on Yelp suggested me, over the phone, to Change the whole garage door, which sounds very absurd. I guess they just want to make money from a girl who has zero knowledge of garage doors. Then I found Don on yelp so I gave him a call and left voice msg. He called me back in an hour and showed up 10 mins earlier of the appointment on the same day. Clearly, this guy knows the sense of urgency of his service. After he looked at my garage, he simply suggested to Adjust and Tighten the tension spring, without costing me a new spring or a whole new garage door. See, this guy is honest about his service. Then, he patiently explained what went wrong, and applied lubricant and tighten the screws on sides of the door as well. However, I still feel the service fee he charged is just a bit more than I expected. Well, I could be wrong because I don't know the market rate of garage doors service. So I started researching on Yelp for the best garage door companies to call for an estimate. I quickly narrowed it down to the top 4-5 rated companies in my neighborhood on Yelp and set an appointment for an estimate. Since this was my first time shopping around for a new garage door install, the estimate itself wasn't just all about the price quote for parts and labor. It was a learning experience about the different types of brands (doors and openers) and well as the different process that each company recommends in replacing the door. I had an oversize garage door, 10' x 7.5', that required reframing otherwise it would probably cost more for a custom size door. After receiving an estimate from each company, I was still indecisive on which company to go with. There were 2 companies that gave me a quote over the phone which I quickly drop. Most of the companies with top reviews and high ratings were mostly for garage door repair jobs. I was primarily looking for reviews on new garage door installations and wanted to see pictures of the actual work (how they mount the openers, sensors, etc). I'm a do it yourselfer type with an eye for details and quality of workmanship, so I'm quite picky. My dad told me that his good friend highly recommend a company called Top Door Garage. I quickly did a search on Yelp but was disappointed to only see one review left for this company. So we ended up driving over to my dad's friend's house to check out the garage door and labor work. I was impressed with how clean their work was and quickly set up an appointment. Don, the owner, arrived at our driveway the following afternoon and walk us thoroughly through the different garage door options and openers. Out of all the companies that came for an estimate, they were the only company that called me back the following day to answer a question I had during the visit. That kind of follow through and being proactive makes my decision to pick them...much easier! Don also help informed me about "header frames" vs. "layer frames" with pictures through email so I can decide on which style to go with. Installation day was a smooth process, completed in 4 hours which met their estimated time frame. Even my mom came out afterwards and complemented about the new garage door! I recently used Top Garage Door for some repairs that were recommended by a different company. This other company is through an appliance repair contract I have been paying into for years. The repairs I needed were not covered under my contract but they had provided 3 different estimates for the suggested repairs. All 3 options were very expensive. I wanted to get another opinion and I found Don at Top Garage Door. I had read previous reviews on another site and he was highly rated so I gave him a call. Over the phone, he explained his services, confirmed that the quotes I had previously received were more expensive than they should be and offered to do it for much less. I did need to purchase the parts online through his site but it was very easy and affordable (since i had the previous quotes, i knew the part that was definitely needed so this helped to place the order). All of his prices included labor and a warranty. He came out at the scheduled time, was friendly, very honest and only repaired what was needed (even though I thought other things needed to be done). My door was old and some of the parts were no longer available but Don made a very affordable suggestion and made the repairs.
