Not your typical Pakistani Resturant. The menu offers different options and food tastes pretty good. Chicken tikka is highly recommended and seems pretty popular at this place along with their bun kebab. They need to work on their staff however. A group of Hispanics running the front which is great, diversity needs to be everywhere BUT not when they are rude and ignorant. They don't greet customers, smile, or even waste their time answering their questions. Instead they stand their making fun of their customers by the way they dress, act, or even talk. Maybe management should look into this if they don't want complaints. No place is perfect. Come here before 6:30pm and you'll find a table. You want good Pakistani food, I would recommend Toosso. The prices are great. If you are a first timer and you are going for breakfast, lunch, or dinner; you def should get here early. They always have a "special" if you want to save even more money. If you want a table, you literally have to eye people down and grab a table as fast as you can before someone else takes it. I would recommend trying the Nihari and the Faloodah. Those are my 2 favorite and I am always happy with the selection. Ask for extra napkins when you order your food, there is never enough at the table! The food is pretty heavy, so don't over order! The mirchi fries are really spicy but the ketchup helps balance that out. Toosso should think about opening up more restaurants or moving to another location. The restaurant itself is kind of small and always crowded. The shopping center isn't hard to find but depending on which way you are coming from, you have to make a U-turn to get into the shopping center. One reason I didn't give this place a 5 was because the tables are sticky, they never give enough napkins, and they have to fix the "always being super crowded" problem. This is a mandatory stop for any Paki/Indian on their way to the Regal Sterling theatre. I have been coming here for several years now for the Bun Kabobs and Falooda. Great price for a lot of food and the servings are generous. Halwa/puri, Nihari, and Haleem are served on the weekends. Okay so i hate to come on here just to complain. But after having two kids and returning to share the experience with my toddler, it was horrible. There is no courteous seating system or arrangement. The owners don't seem to care, customer service is definitely at an all time low. The line was out the door, and after having the kids wait in the car for 30 min. I finally found a couple who was going to give us their table, then this random old guy jumps in and sits at the table- i was furious. But because i was with my family i didn't say anything to him. Ended up waiting another 30 min in the restaurant with my 5.5 month old and my hungry impatient toddler after sitting and waiting another 30 min for food. Do not recommend coming here until they've set some system in place for their customers. Everyone grabs what they want, no one has any manners and to top it off there were huge tables of 6-8 with one young adult waiting and holding those spots until their family came. Never coming here again and i will make sure i tell the rest of the desi community about the foreign methods of this establishment. Food is average but worst is the customer service. You. Can't place a carry out order if folks don't understand English over the phone. Happened on multiple occasions and not to mention they are rude and I don't know if it's phone system but it hangs up on you while you are on hold. So after so much hype we went to Toosso. Bun kabob were average. I like the mirch fries. Everything else was bland and below average. Biryani was just some unsalted white rice mixed with some curry... bland taste. Then comes Haleem, again, bland no spices n even salt wasn't proper. It looked good but had no taste at all. Then we got the famous falooda. First, let me be clear. It's not actual falooda. It's milk mix with some almond vanilla ice cream, hard frozen noodles,some basil seeds and some jelly. So we hit up this little spot tucked away in the corner of a strip mall and figured it cant be that busy since it was so hard to find but when we got there at 830the place was jam packed. we palced our order for the bun kabab special, chicken malai rolls and dum keema bowl. the food was prepared relatively fast and we dug in. I have to say that the rolls and the bun kabab were on point. I had the bun kababs and they reminded me of the karachi street cart food that i used to love as a kid. On the other hand, the dum keema bowl was not dum keema at all, i think it was just regular keema so disappointing to try that and not taste what i was expecting. Next we ordered chai and falooda. this is where is kind of went downhill. even though the chai was served in cool teapots, the chai was luke warm at best and tasted watered down with no real chai flavor to be found. Falooda was similarly disappointing, just a small scoop of kulfi and the taste of it all wasnt that great. Toosso is a modern and clean Chipotle-style fast casual restaurant, where the owner swaps the beans and burritos with piquant Pakistani spices. Instead of Corona, you'll see mango lassi and chai tea on the menu (tea is served in very cute little teapots). Similar to the fast casual pioneer of Mexican food, Toosso has a bare-bones look to it with industrial accents. The bottle cap-lined wall behind the counter is quite interesting. Also love the Pakistani films playing on a projector screen along one wall. We noticed that Pakistani curries, from what we experienced here, are less saucy, drier than Indian curries. I love the sauciness of Indian curries so this took some getting used to, but Tom N thought it was refreshing. Toosso's menu options are very affordable, nothing costing more than ten bucks. They have some special features, "favorites," and weekend specials, like panipuri. Meat is definitely king here, though they do have a few options for vegetarians. I tried their potato curry, and my request to the owner and chef: Please add some other veggies (peas?) for interest, texture, and variety! Maybe this potato curry is traditionally just potatoes, but I was too distracted by the starchiness of my main to fully appreciate its excellent and very spicy sauce. Overall, Toosso is a pretty good spot for Pakistani "fast food." The flavors are really exciting, and the setting is comfortable. Service is prompt and friendly. It's also a really good sign when you see lots of Pakistani diners. When the vegetarian-friendly dishes become more than afterthoughts, Toosso's rating will definitely go up. read more

Had to write an update after trying their AMAZING halwa puri brunch. Pregnant with a half-Pakistani child, I've been seriously craving this traditional Pakistani brunch meal. I asked around, and heard that Toosso had some of the best. The halwa puri is only available on weekends, and comes on a little portioned school lunch tray with chickpeas, halwa (sweet dish), alu (potato stew), achar (spicy pickles), and I think two large puris. Or maybe it was one big one folded up? Either way, it was a very generous portion. The taste was fantastic. I've had steady halwa--puri cravings all pregnancy, and Toosso has the best!! I find it interesting that the non desis are mostly the ones who have "complained" I love that its a short menu, less fuss less muss, and faster service. their falooda is HANDS DOWN the BEST in the area, there's no competition for it! If Toosso wasn't located so far away from my house I would be frequenting them at least once a week. Recently I had Toosso on a Saturday at 2 P.M; we thought the lunch crowd would have died down at this time. Upon entering there were no empty tables but luckily one opened up right after we placed our orders. This place gets crowded quickly but the food comes out at a fast pace. I can imagine if you go during peak hours you will either have to stalk a table until someone leaves or to-go the order. The lady taking the order even asked me if we had a table ready when I said for here. I guess it is a pretty common issue for someone to get for here and to not find a table to sit down to enjoy the food. Alexis K and I ended up splitting the Dum Keema bowl, Karahi Kofta bowl and the Mirchi fries. My friend got the Chicken Tikka Masala which I must say is a bit more pricy than the items I got, but it is well worth it. The chicken was very tender and fall of the bone. All the food plus a drink cost $18! It is a great deal however I must say the portions aren't too big. My gf and I were both still hungry after completing our meal. The Dum Keema and Karahi Kofta bowl were awesome, very flavorful with various distinctive spices. Add some yogurt they provide to both bowls and you are in for a treat. One thing I wasn't a huge fan of were the Mirchi fries, they tasted like ordinary fries. I did not taste the Mirchi seasoning so I will be skipping this item the next time I come here. There are many items on their menu that sound very appetizing to me and I will be back for sure. I just need to remind myself to order more food to be fully satisfied. Service wise they are very quick to get the food out of the kitchen. The tables are cleared quickly to have a fast turnaround. If you're looking for fast casual Pakistani food, this will probably be one of the better options offered in the Sterling area. Note that I'm comparing to the Sterling area as oppose to the entire NOVA region. Considering my boyfriend and I were the only two customers that were not middle eastern, it goes to show this place must be authentic (or atleast close to it). We ordered the chicken briyani and reshmi kebab roll to share. No complaints for either of the orders, the chicken briyani was the better choice of the two. Be warned, there is definitely a spice factor that I was not expecting. Spice was manageable, I was just surprised it had more heat than the other places I've tried it at. If you are a mango fanatic like I am, then you must order the mango lassi! Lassi had the perfect smoothie consistency with the right amount of sweetness. Word of mouth praise convinced us to patronize this restaurant. Toosso means to stuff yourself. However that's not the case. Its NOT an All you can eat buffet style place. To my surprise it turn out to be a limited menu single room informal casual self service small restaurant. No goat or Lamb karahi here. What's with that? Our order consisted of a mildly spiced Chicken Tikka BBQ (kabob) plate with sliced onions & chutney. Mildly spiced Dum keema (Onions fried grounded beef) etc. Third item was Bun (Shamie) mild ground beef Kabab. I had to add salt to each item as it had very little or none. I know its bad to add salt but I like to taste my food & without salt it doesn't. Food is fresh & served properly on regular china plates or bowls. Paper cups for drinks. For dessert we ordered Faluda with kulfi. It was average at best. Service is good. Friendly staff. Management is mostly invisible or shy to face customers. Overall I settled for 3 stars based on food taste which is mild & tasted nothing like any authentic Pakistani Dishes. Pricing is moderate based on what items are on the menu. No seafood. A friend who lives in Silver Spring recommended that we join him at Toosso for Iftar. Considering that we drove 1 hr for food-- you can be the judge if we're just major foodies or if the food is really that good. When we arrived on a Saturday around 7PM, there were people already claiming tables waiting for the sunset. We were able to grab a spot as well, but by the end of the night, all the tables were full and there were those who were still waiting. It is a simple, colorful, casual restaurant located in a strip mall near a hookah place and bonchon restuarant. Right next door appeared to be a lingerie shop. The Toosso staff were extremely nice and helpful. You line up to place your order & wait for your number to be called. Being new to the restaurant, the woman at the cashier was very informative and professional. She was exceptional and I was surprised at how she skillfully interacted with each hungry customer in the super long queue and never showed a hint of negativity. Even when I went back to get extra plates, ordered extra food, she was consistently so helpful! We tried an array of dishes from the menu, but the two that stood out the most was the chicken tikka and nihari. Get those two and you will be satisfied. The chicken was perfectly roasted and flavorful with a wedge of lime. Comes with two big pieces. The nihari was this perfect beef in the most delicious flavorful gravy I've had. I was so tempted to drink the gravy like soup. The naan cost an extra (2.50) which was nice to have to dip into the nihari gravy as well. It was my first time having the faluda dessert, but I think I will pass next time considering they were not that generous with the basil seeds (my fav part) and noodles. My friend remarked it was the "poor man's" faluda bc they skimped out on the toppings. The chai was OK and very reasonable priced, it already comes with milk in a little pot, and you can add white sugar or splenda yourself at the table. I like this place. I'm not generally a fan of cuisines from south or east of the Himalayas, but Pakistan is neither. Clearly I've set my border correctly. :-) We like pretty much all the wraps. Supposedly they tried going for the same look as the Toosoo restaurant in Karachi. Food: Bun Kabob both beef and aloo (potato) was awesome, very similar to the one found in Pakistan. I believe one order comes with two burgers; I also recommend getting the mirchi fries with the burgers. The chicken roll was also really good, Nehari was exquisite as well. Dessert: Falooda, probably the best item on the menu here. This was definitely the best falooda I've had in the country hands down. Started out as a great place but, doesn't have the same quality as it used to. Still good food and the staff is pretty friendly. What breaks my heart though is that ownership pockets all the tips. Employees do not receive any of the tips in the jar. Just ask anyone who works there besides ownership. After hearing this I'm considering taking my business elsewhere. Which is sad because this has historically been my family's go to. All I can think about are all the tips I put in that jar and how they ended up in the pockets of ownership.
