This is one of the areas I didn't really understand as a kid, but now as an adult, I appreciate a lot more. I did used to have a lot of fun on Dudley do rights rip saw Falls though! This area has a nice charmed to it that the older generation gets a lot more than mine and younger generations really don't read comics as much or the newspaper, so it's kind of sad to see this fall into obscurity as time passes on. read more

Classic, cute, but I think it needs an update, personally. I love the retro cartoons and think the retro vibe is adorable, but the layout feels a little dated and stale to me. That being said, some of my favorite rides are here. Popeye's Barge and Dudley Do-Right. Fun storytelling awaits as you cool off, because you will get absolutely soaked. The food here isn't great, though the ice cream shop and snack stands are fine. Oh, Wimpy's Burgers are actually fresh-made, so that's a spot worth stopping for. Toon Lagoon is an area at Universal Studio's Islands of Adventure. It's between the Comic section and Jurassic Park. This area has some of the other Universal themed characters like Popeye, Betty Boop, Olive Oyl and so much more! This area has two unique rides and they're all water themed! Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls: This ride is so much fun! This is one of my favorite water rides! You will get wet on this ride too! Express pass is accepted for this ride! Usually there is a relatively long wait during summer! It's a flume ride. During the adventure, you'll get to see lots of fun classic cartoons! The end of the ride includes a huge drop! Universal Studios recommends to bring a change of clothes to wear on this ride or use a poncho! Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges: This is a water raft ride in one of those tube rides. You'll also get soaked on this ride too! I used to watch Popeye the Sailor cartoon growing up! You'll also get to see a super-sized cephalopod on the ride! While you're in this area, you can also explore the Me Ship, The Olive, Popeye's seagoing vessel, some stores like Gasoline alley, and you can even grab some food at Wimpy's restaurant! Toon Lagoon is a themed area within Universal Orlando (Islands of Adventure). It felt very dated to me with not a lot of attractions to draw me in (Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls and Popeye & Bluto's Blinge-Rat Barges), but we wanted to stroll for. Likely this area would be great in summer, but we visited December 2024. Personally, a one and done for me, though I did enjoy seeing Betty Boop merchandise. read more

Based on the Sunday-morning newspaper comics, adult guests will enjoy seeing familiar friends from their childhood. An island without equal, Toon Lagoon offers numerous ways to shop, dine, explore, and SOAK in a three-dimensional, colorful fantasy. I personally wanted to come to Toon Lagoon because I love the Sunday morning comics. I enjoyed being able to shop and eat like my favorite newspaper comic characters which was a ton of fun for me. I'm all about detail, and Toon Lagoon at Islands of Adventure really nails all the little things. There's so many interactive elements all walking through this section of park and it's awesome. I do think that as time goes on a lot of it is pretty outdated- I know I'm younger, but even my mom says she doesn't know much of the comic strips in Toon Lagoon well. I think an update on the characters would really bring a new pop of life to this part. But really, Toon Lagoon is still awesome. It has most of the water rides- Ripsaw Falls is a fantastic log ride that's much more elevated than your traditional log ride. And the Popeye (Bilge Rat Barges) is soo fun, a nice raft ride if you're prepared to be completely soaked to the bone. Popeye was one "toon" I grew up with, so I really have a soft spot for this ride and theme. There are a few places to eat in Toon Lagoon as is also normal of each park section. They have quite a few gift shops which include souvenirs and items that are much more with the items and easily recognizable for the younger generations. Hopefully eventually the rest of the park catches up. read more

This is a neat, but outdated section in Universal's Island of Adventure. It is based off old comic characters like Popeye, Betty Boop, Beetle Bailer, Dagwood and Blondie, and Marmaduke. None of which kids of today have any knowledge of. This section has some nice restaurants over here like the Comic Strip Cafe, Blondie's, Wimpy's and Cathy's Ice cream. The section as decorated as a comic strip, which if they are like my kids will not understand unless it is in a movie. There have been many calls to update this section and change it to something else. If they were going to change a section in the park, this one would be on the top of my list. It is a decent section, but it could keep the rides and rebrand it to something else. The majority of the water rides are located over in this section. They have Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls, and Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges. You get soaked on this rides. Both rides also have some good viewing points to watch riders get drenched. It was a very chilly when I visited, so we stayed clear of those rides and just marveled at the brave souls that got on them. The line for the people dryers was much longer than the water rides if that tells you anything. There is also a small splash pad in front of the Toon Lagoon sign near Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls. There is a huge ship playground, Me Ship, the Olive, that is a large play area with slides and other equipment and has water cannons that you can shoot at people going by on the neighboring cannon water ride. The section does have occasional characters pop up such as Popeye, Olive Oyl and Betty Boop. Just check the schedule for the day to see what character will be where, at what time. And of course no section is complete without their signature overprice shops that sell licensed merchandise from their section. Like I said, It was a very chilly day when I visited, so I did not get the full effect of the section. We spent the majority of the time in the section on Me Ship, the Olive and watching other people get soaked. That is reflected in my rating. My rating would have probably be much higher on a warmer day. read more

Vintage Sunday-funnies favorites... Toon Lagoon is based around characters from newspaper comic strips. I enjoyed seeing all the nostalgic comic strip names. I know I'm dating myself here but I remember comics from Dagwood (and Blondie), Beetle Bailey, Marmaduke, The Family Circus, and, of course, Popeye and Olive Oyl in the Sunday morning comic section of the newspaper. Too bad comic strips are becoming a dying thing... if not already. Younger guests will probably not have too much fun here. But that doesn't stop kids from enjoying the resort's two wettest water rides! Toon Lagoon is where we found the water rides and attractions. This pavilion was packed with people since it was the perfect place to be cooling off during a hot Florida day. We went on a whitewater raft ride at Popeye's and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges where we got more than a splash... we got soaked. We were also going to get on Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls too but the wait time was just too long even with the Express Pass so we skipped it. Another feature I enjoyed here were the various "word balloons" which you can position yourself underneath for a photo op. Animate yourself to match the "thought" and have fun! Old time comic/cartoon area of Universal's Islands of Adventure. Coming to Universal for the first time, I was aware of a good portion of both of their parks - but I was unaware of this. Nice nostalgic area reminiscent of a different era sandwiched between Jurassic Park and Marvel. There's several shops and eateries around the area, along with some select character meet and greets. The most popular area seemed to be the water activities. There are some sprinklers and a water ride. Different area than the rest of the park, but nothing wrong with that. I could see them eventually downsizing this and putting something else in its place. With all the properties Disney owns, seeing this altogether is welcome. There's plenty to look at and take pictures of and they did a nice job with the way everything is set up. Kids might not know who some or any of the characters are, but they should still have fun being in this area. Overall a fun area. read more

This section is so cute. One child says, how do people still like this since most of the characters are lost in time, the funnies from another generation unknown by most of the guests? While this is true, I bet most do not recognize these characters , there is a timeless charm about the land. I do know many of the characters from newspapers of the past and my parents and grandparents sharing their childhood books and magazines with me. There are so many hidden charms in this section. We love Dudley Doo Right and need to go on it tons to get soaked, and the kids love Popeye's ride ( I refuse since you will get toooo soaked!) But there are also hidden gems in the food offerings, like the ramen bowls. Plus even the store and restaurants are so themed they bring these dinosaur comics and characters back to life. read more

This is the worst theme park land I've ever been to. The rides are bad, the food is bad, and it's an eyesore and an ear sore. People mostly just walk through Toon Lagoon just to get to other lands. No one has any idea who the characters are in the entire land. Please re-theme to Splatoon, Pokemon, or Zelda. read more

Toon Lagoon is in the Islands of Adventure at Universal Orlando. It's a kind of cool area if you're familiar with the old timey comics that make up the area - Cathy, Popeye, Betty Boop. Toon Lagoon is all about the water rides, so if that's your thing you're sure to enjoy it. Rides include: ~Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls is a log flume ride with a big drop! ~Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges is a raft ride. ~Me Ship, the Olive is a water playground for the kiddies. Food Sports: ~Cathy's - mostly ice cream ~Comic Strip Cafe - cool decor but pretty terrible food ~Blondie's ~Wimpy's Honestly I think Toon Lagoon is just fine, some cool aspects to the atmosphere of it. But of all the sections in Universal, I think I'd miss this the least if they got rid of it. Some of the other areas just need freshening up, but the concept of this section is a bit outdated. I like the area, but usually skip the rides and all the food options...so...it can't be all that wonderful. read more

I first became aware of Toon Lagoon about 4 and a half years ago, long before I found myself at Islands of Adventure. I was Beetle Bailey for Halloween and multiple people told me about the big Beetle Bailey here. One DMed me a picture of it when he went that winter. I was kind of surprised since Beetle Bailey is a mostly bygone character. I mean, I kind of see him as this existentialist slacker hero, sort of a precursor to Buddy Bradley (look him up). Dude has been a private for over 60 years. Never gone to war, even in an era of Endless War. Camp Swampy is a surreal, Kafkaesque place. Well, I'm not gonna throw any college words like Kafkaesque at Toon Lagoon, but it is pretty surreal. Pretty delightful these old school toons are living large in full 2D in a 4D world. (That fourth dimension is time which largely seems to be forgotten here.) Betty Boop is maybe known by sight to the younger set but most of these characters aren't exactly household names. I mean, I'd like to see Jack Black star as Hagar the Horrible in an outrageous live action comedy but I don't think it's gonna happen. It was cool to wonder through here with my geriatric parents as these characters are more from their time. Even though there's a zany, child-like vibe this really feels like Universal throwing a bone to the old folks. Much respect for the big Krazy Kat getting by a brick! The Dudley Do Right log flume was down for yearly maintenance so I missed that and the Popeye river raft ride looked really fun, but we had limited time and it seemed warm enough that day to get log flume wet but not multiple waterfall wet. We did wander around the Popeye boat which gave great views of the rafters, the Hulk coaster and that eponymous lagoon. I didn't try my hand at the water cannons you could aim at the river rafts but those are an inspired touch. While here I bought a personalized Florida license plate keychain for a co-worker back home. Not a bad deal at all for $10 at an amusement park. The guys at the stand were friendly, too. Toon Lagoon loses points for not one but two restaurants being closed in the middle of the afternoon when we had really worked up an appetite. I guess Dagwood ate up all that food in his gargantuan sandwiches. (A whole lobster in a sammich?? Dagwood, ya screwball ya!) We had to walk over to the Jurassic Park section to sate our hunger. The line was pretty long, which definitely seemed connected to the two closed restaurants in Toon Lagoon. A follower on Instagram commented he always takes a bunch of pictures here, as he feels like it's gonna be razed and revamped into newer, hotter intellectual property any day now. I mean, I don't think anybody ever called Hi and Lois or Broom Hilda "lit". I'm sure Universal could do a lot here. Can you imagine if they built Adult Swim land?? With a Rick and Morty flight simulator??? A giant, continuously dancing Meatwad?? Okay, I'm back. My brain went someplace else for a mind. I'm glad something like Toon Lagoon exists in 2019 and I took a few pics of it. I'll understand if it goes away but in my book it's some anvil dropping good fun. read more

I honestly love Toon Lagoon, it's a definite that you will get wet or even soaked on their rides. They even have a boat play ground for kids (or adults). The lines are super short here, probably because people don't want to get wet. Definitely recommend this area! read more

At the comic strip cafe a and service is fast. Air conditioned and wide open spaces. Great for family. But.... food is a little below your standard quality for amusement park.
