I started to feel something shady was going on after the issue kept happening. The last time we had our air conditioning fixed, they kept the car for 9 days because they said they needed to do a quality assurance test and that they also went ahead and fixed our shock absorbers because it would be covered by the warranty (we didn't ask for this work to be completed). When we finally picked up the car, the engine and under carriage covers were in our trunk! How did this happen if they were doing a quality assurance test? They did send someone out to our house to put the covers back on but only after my husband refused to bring the car back to the shop. Two weeks later we got a flat tire and brought the car to a local mechanic to fix the tire. During a complimentary car check, they discovered our air filters were absolutely filthy, our battery was close to dying, and the car's alignment was off! How the hell none of this caught at Arndt is beyond me. We will no longer be bringing our car to Arndt unfortunately.

That was very nice of them.. he also charged me $285 to tell me that my engine was blown. They first said they would do a complimentary electronic analysis and said there were cylinders misfiring.. I didn't feel comfortable with their assessment so I had it towed to a shop I knew was reputable through my own experience and they determined I had a broken valve spring. They replaced the valve spring for $400 and I got my truck back running tremendous as it always did. If I had gone with them they would have trashed my perfectly good motor. I do not recommend this establishment as I do not have faith in their mechanics.

I've used Bill White's C.A.R. Hospital several times this summer. My car is fun to drive, but at 15 years old, it always needs something. My greatest concern is an unanticipated breakdown, and that's exactly what happened the first time I visited the C.A.R. Hospital. Usually, there's a clear view from the shop area to the waiting area/service desk--where I anxiously crane my neck to see where my car sits in the line of work. Usually, the waiting area is cramped and unclean, a place for stale coffee and man-picked TV. Usually, I find myself on the receiving end of vague terms with hens-and-haws, until I prove my cursory understanding of a fuel combustion engine and the ABS system. Here's what it's like at Bill White's: complementary beverages if you need to wait; free local pick-up and drop-off when requested; always friendly and polite service counter assistance by Rachel, Joy, and Bill; absolutely clear communication about diagnosis of problem and solution to problem, clear communication about the reasonable price of service or repair, and clear communication about exactly when work will be completed; lastly, there's a thank you card or coupon in the mail--real savings, not just some stupid systems-check, on something a car really needs. I brought my 1969 AMX to Classic Car Factory for a repaint and a few relatively minor items:…read morechecking the charging system, a tune-up, replacing the water pump, adding wheel spacers, and later replacing the wiper motor. I was quoted a 30-day timeline and I was provided an estimated cost & a maximum cost. Instead, the car was kept for 8 months and the final cost ballooned to 3 times the quoted maximum. Because the car was fully disassembled for paint, I had little ability to stop the project once it was underway. The results were extremely disappointing. The car was returned with scratches and damage to more than 30 areas of what should have been a high-quality paint job and mechanically, the car was in worse condition than when I brought it in. Parts were lost, including rare and difficult-to-replace trim pieces such as the rear window stainless transition trim and a trunk lid. The windshield and rear windows apparently were unprotected when removed and were reinstalled with deep scratches in them.(They claim that the scratches were in the windows when the car was brought in despite pictures proving the contrary). During repairs, additional damage was caused: the timing chain cover was cracked during the water pump replacement, the wiper motor bushing was destroyed and they could not find a replacement so the replacement motor could not be installed, and two sets of stainless steel drip rail moldings (approximately $1,000 each) were damaged and never reinstalled. The hood latch was painted so thickly it was not operational. Literally none of the requested repairs were successfully completed. After 2 months of back and forth after retrieving the car, they fixed the paint problems - I was unwilling to have them attempt to do any more mechanical work but I did expect them to replace the parts they lost or damaged. They have not. This experience fell far short in terms of workmanship, care, timeline, and cost control. They advertise the lowest hourly rate for mechanics - they should hire one. Their slogan "We can do that" should be adjusted "We can do that but not well". I cannot recommend this shop based on my experience.

I went to start my car and discovered the battery was dead. AAA replaced the battery, and discovered the engine would crank but would not turn over. I needed to find a repair shop or make arrangements to ship it home. I began a Google search and quickly began calling "classic auto repair shops", asking for help. The replies ranged from "We can't take you for 2 weeks" to "We don't work on cars that old". I finally dialed Old School Classics in Monee IL. Bruce listened patiently to my predicament and said he would help. I had the car towed from downtown Chicago to his shop in Monee. Bruce greeted me and began working on it right away, with help from Mike and Ray. By the end of the day Bruce had isolated the problem to the EFI control module, one of the many modifications I had made to improve performance. Bruce continued working on my car first thing next morning. He reached technical support at Holley, who helped him verify that that the ECM module was fine. They directed Bruce to a hidden relay that tested bad. After replacing the relay, the engine fired up perfectly. I was very grateful to pay this bill, be on my way and avoid a $4,000 charge to ship the car back home. My car ran perfectly for the 2,000 mi trip back to Los Angeles. Bruce, Mike, and Ray are honest "Old School" people. You can trust their expertise. They deliver excellent service quickly and efficiently.
