Well, when i heard this place was opening i was ecstatic. I'd previously been to the one in Byres road glasgow which was amazing and ever since i had been telling my mum how good the dressing were etc. we love a salad dressing haha. so then i heard this place was opening and i told everyone and couldn't wait.. so it opened and i couldn't wait to go and my perfect opportunity came when my Aunt from Canada was home and we were going for lunch so i suggested here because it had been so yummy in glasgow. We went in August, after it had been opened for 5 weeks, this was so the hype and stuff had calmed down as we hadn't booked. so we went in just the two of us and were greeted by a man who said hello. i asked for a able for 2 and he said whats the name, i told him we had no reservation.... and he seemed so annoyed why this was i dont know? as it was 1pm and the restuarnt was pretty empty except up the back where i guess it family area. so he'll fussed about on the computer trying to find us a table why i dont know as there were plenty clearly available. so a waiter came and took us to our seat. i think it was the owrst seat in the house, a tiny little table right at the back with all the prams at the fire exit... my aunt did say are you serious'? why cant we have a booth and he got flustestered and walked away so rude. so we sat down, i had to sit right in at the table as the waitresses kept asking my to push my chair in so they could get past to get to other tables. seriously? whilst waiting, we were next to 4 family table 2 of whom had big prams and screaming children. they wouldnt move their pram so i could hardly move in my seat. i was so unimpressed we thought about just getting up and leaving. we ordered drinks and they took ages god knows why as the place wasn't busy. i was disappointed there was no lunch menu deals available.. we ordered ceasar salads an i was vamished and looking forward to it, it came out and we both just looked it... then looked at each other. yes it was a large portion, but the lettuce was swimming in dressing so much so it had gone completly soggy, the chicken was so dry and chargrilled it near broke my teeth and well the croutons you could have knocked someone out with them they were that hard. i was so disappointed as id had a completly different experience in glasgow and i felt so silly for having been telling everyone how amazing it was and dragging my aunt to it. we paid the bill grudginly at almost £15. We left. when walking out still no tables were filled out front this enraged me more as we got sat through the back as "these were reserved" well reserved for who those having dinner? all in all wasn't impressed in the slightest. terrible service and attitude. food was not good at all. pricey too. won't be back ever. i'll stick to what i know and travel to Glasgow instead. read more

I ate at Tony Macaroni twice during my recent stay in Scotland. It's a chain Italian restaurant, so the food was OK. Both times I had the Insalata Gotardo, which was very fresh. I enjoyed the mix of flavors in the salad, including the large "crouton" topped with the grilled goat cheese. I also ordered a side order of their home made bread the first time, and the rosemary focaccia bread the second time. Both breads were very good. For dessert, the first time my husband and I split a dessert, which name I can't remember, but it was basically fried sweet dough (what we Americans would compare to funnel cake) with chocolate and toffee dipping sauces. I'm a huge chocoholic, and was a little disappointment in the chocolate sauce, but the toffee sauce was excellent! On my second visit, I got the apple crumble with vanilla ice cream. It was hot and crumbly, a dessert I love paired with nice cold ice cream. Our second visit here was actually not planned... we wanted to go somewhere else which didn't have any seating available for us, so we went to Tony Macaroni as a back up. It's not the type of place I'd go out of my way for, but would count on a decent meal when it was convenient. read more

Very disappointing visit. I have been many times and enjoyed the food but not his time. Waitress was obviously new and she had slight difficulty understanding us which made ordering difficult Hopefully we were patient Starters of Minestrone Soup, Funghi Fritti (mushrooms coated in crispy breadcrumbs stuffed with cheese, served with garlic mayonnaise and were good but main courses not so. My sea bass in a cream sauce was tasty but tiny and came with rice instead of potatoes. I mentioned this and she took the dish away bringing it back almost immediately and said potatoes were coming. They arrived but were dry and tastless. Waitress was very apologetic. Friends had chicken burgers with chips. Both were very, very dry and both left quite a lot of the meal as they found it rather unappetising We had coffee to finish and left earlier than we normally would. read more

Motherwell's young and oh-so-happening nightlife died the day that they decided to close Starka Bar, the shell of which has been fashioned into chain Italian Tony Macaroni's newest addition. I didn't want to go. I wanted to boycott this place because of my loyalty to my beloved now defunct watering hole. However, I like food, and I like reviewing new places, so my head over ruled my heart and I went on Saturday afternoon to reveal my wrath on unsuspecting Tony and his mates. The restaurant itself looks clean, sharp and shiny and new. Lovely. Long gone are the beer stained floors and dodgy stone walls, to be replaced with less dodgy stone walls. The waiters and waitresses are bloody lovely, most of them Italian, although this could be the thrill of the first week of opening. Time will tell on that front I suppose. We ordered the Arancino for starter, which came looking like two rugby balls on a plate. They were huge! I would have preferred a little less if I am honest but I'd rather that than too little. The tomato sauce which accompanied them was dee-licious. For main, we ordered pastas. I had the Tagliatelle Merluzzo, a smoked haddock and broccoli concoction which sounded exactly up my street. It was delicious, again, the portion size was huge, and it didn't help that we had ordered a garlic and olive oil focaccia to go with it. Phew! My only grumble is that we weren't offered black pepper, and the pepper in the table mill was the powdery sort, a pet hate of mine. The bill came to a respectable £35 pounds, for 2 starters, a side, 2 mains and 2 drinks. So Tony. You have me on your side for now. I wanted to hate you but, with your smoked haddock goodness you won me over. Now, just put all the drinks down to £1 on a Thursday night and we'll say no more about it. read more

Let me start by saying that I absolutely adore Italian food,I am a fervent restauranteur !,especially of Italians!...I thought I'd try Toni macaronis as it was my birthday and I had heard some good things about it(mainly that it was good value for money)..I phoned ahead to book as I'd heard they get a bit snuffy if you don't book,even altho it was 3pm on a Thursday afternoon..I also wanted to check they did tapas,as I love Italian tapas!,I was very excited when they said they did!... 3 pm and my partner and I were greeted with an fed up looking little Italian man who seemed to like to motion a lot with his arms instead of speak to us directly,he placed us at a decent table for 2 as I'd asked,all was well,until I remembered a third person would be joining us for a drink,I approached the waitress who was very nice and apologised and explained that we might need a bigger table,as I'd forgotten about a possible 3rd person,she in turn approached the flustered looking Italian fella and mumbled to him our request,he then shook his head looking annoyed and furrowing his eyebrows as if exasperated!,I could clearly see his reaction,he was very annoyed which was pretty ridiculous . I apologised to him and he quickly changed his face to a customer-friendly expression,we were led to our new table. We ordered our starter of anti pasti salads(my absolute favourite)!...it was absolutely huge!...mountains of meat over undressed dry salad leaves,a wet splodge of artichoke pooled on the bottom of the plate,I really don't know how you can get a salad wrong but it was woeful! I drenched it in balsamic and did my best,I tried to hide my disappointment as it was my birthday treat and I was hopeful for my impending tapas!!.. The tapas came!,I had a black pudding and potatoes,prawns in Parma ham and chicken wings,not good!...the prawns were ok but the parma ham was fired too crispy and greasy and had zero flavour!,the chicken wings were in a cheap sauce from a supermarket it appeared and did not taste remotely fresh or authentic,the black pudding dish fared a little better but was also swimming in grease and hardly rustic or fresh... I was very disappointed with my meal and the angry italian man,and I had wished I had stuck w with my original choice of a Glasgow restaurant!,the venue and waiters were nice enough but the food was pretty terrible,I could have rustled up better at home...I won't be back. read more

was there Sunday night for my sisters birthday the staff were great they couldnt do enough for us. We did have to wait about 40mins for the starters and then about half hour to forty minutes on our main, it was ok the starters were nice enough, Quite expensive also. read more

We visited this restaurant for the first time today, for us it was a real treat, the first time in the 3 months that my partner and I had managed to get any time together so we thought we would treat ourselves to a lunch at the much raved about Toni Macaroni's in Motherwell........... We were more than welcomed in with 3 waiting staff asking if we would like to order drinks within the first few minutes of taking a seat, after that the service went rapidly downhill, when we finally caught someones attention to establish what was in the seafood rissoto the waiter realed of a few ingredients and asked if we had heard enough, he then reluctanly went to consult the chef! Order taken, out came the impressive first courses, wow 2 huge plates of food, looking and tasting great, but then again it is not so hard to make some toast and put tomatoes, cheese or pate on to it and and a few leaves. Then to the main course; what a dissapointment, the rissoto tasted good enough but the extra plastic found within it was completely unecessary; when pointed out to the waitress she just ran to the manager and then into the kitchen, eventually returning to say 'Im sorry; when I handed my plate to her and commented that it was the wrost meal that I had ever tasted her answer was 'well you have eaten most of it!. Now to explain why I felt so strongly, I had ordered the pan fried salmon served with potatoes and vegetables of the day and a citrus sauce. The sauce had no taste of citreon in it whatsover, instead it was as if someone had poured syrup all over my plate, the food was completely covered in it; I scraped of what I could from the salmon and added it to my partners rissoto rather than make a fuss (bearing in mind that I had had a huge starter of cheese and tomato on toast, no serving staff had followed up with us to establish if we were happy with our meal). Rather than rise to the extremelly rude response I had recieved from the waitress I asked to speak to the manager; who was about as interested as the rest of the team, he made no effort to assertain the issues and in an extremely dissmisive manner he stated 'I appologise, I will give you a discount' and with that walked away! Our sweets arrived they were more than impressive and then a young scottish waiter chated to us and gave the customer service that shoiud have been given by by the 3 italians,sadly it was all too little too late, the bill arrived with a 15% discount, still no explanation as to what the foreign body in my partners food had been and no concern for the fact that a meal that was simply inedible had been sent out from the kitchen, such arraogance. This is definitely a mixed review. The restaurant itself I found appealing in appearance and cleanliness. The host I found rather brisk...asking if we had reservations, which we did not,only to be escorted to what had to be the worst seat in the near empty house, I asked him for a booth and was told he'd have to check with the reservations book..we were then given a booth near what i presume was a store-room of sorts and bloody freezing every time the door opened (which was too often). That aside we grazed through the extensive menu and chose for starters the Minestrone soup which was very very good just not enough of it and the Arancino which although served rather cold was excellent in flavor and was accompanied by a deliciously spicy sauce and garnished with a small salad in a delicate vinaigrette. Our main course consisted of Linguine Gamberoni (linguine with prawns in a light tomato sauce) and Linguine Arrabiata (linguine in a spicy tomato sauce). Ok, to start with the Linguine Gamberoni, the Prawns were scarce and the sauce claggy heavy and quite bland at best, though the pasts itself was cooked perfectly aldentae, the Linguine Arrabiata lacked any punch in the spice department and sadly was desperately in need of seasoning and was claggy and heavy. We ordered the Focaccia Aglio Olio and what appeared was definitely not a true Focaccia, it was more like a mexican tostada or crisp bread, as for oil or garlic?...Zilch-nine-nie-none. We ordered a side of french fries as I eat them with everything and though they were rather good they I suspect and am pretty sure were of the Frozen Variety....Sad for a restaurant of this type . Will we go back? Probably, but only for the lovely starters and perhaps try out the Pizza..Though not for a while,,,,,This place carries a High Price tag, we dropped £40 without any alcohol or soft drink.
