Went in for lunch, 2 bowls, took to the grill. Food was ok, price was $14 for lunch. Asked for a to go container for uneaten portion. Was told I could not take my uneaten portion that I had chosen without an additional $8 charge. I spoke to the on premise mgr who was not interested in my concern and said it was their policy because some customers get many bowls of food and want to take home. She acknowledged that I only used two but would have to pay $8 more for the food I had paid $14 for. Terrible policy, terrible customer service and food was just ok. Will not go back. I had eaten at Tons in the Arlington/Mansfield area many times and was a favorite place to go. Now I know why there is only 1 left and can't recommend going again. read more

The original Ton's, it's been here for years & I believe has been run by the same people with several long term staff members. The staff has always been kind from the minute you walk in the door whether they are wait staff or cooks, always courteous. It can get busy here but they are efficient! If you've never had Mongolian grill you basically put all your food in a bowl (here you use two) - proteins, veggies, noodles, sauce, & cook it all together on a large grill at the end. You can ask them to make you fried rice at the grill too, just eggs & soy sauce or to use it as the base of your meal if you don't want noodles. If you want an egg, ask when they take your bowls to start grilling your food. Hot & sour or egg drop soup are available if you'd like & you can order some white rice with your meal if preferred. Ice cream is available for a sweet treat at the end. All these things are included in your meal. Sometimes the area where you get all your ingredients can be messy. It's hard to control the mess people make, especially with the sauces but we came at a slow time where no one had been in front of us & oil was all across the counter. Sometimes the floor can get greasy too in the same area. Like I said, it's been around for awhile, it's a little run down but the quality of food is still good. This has been a family favorite for twenty years, which sounds wild writing it down. We've always enjoyed this spot for its simplicity yet yummy food. When you come into the restaurant you are greeted and taken to your seats. Then you literally go and prep your noodle bowl. After that the chefs make it on a big hot plate with all the other dishes waiting to be made. Even there you can customize your dish a little further with egg, rice and hot chili as you all circle around them cooking as part of the experience. The staff was very friendly and the food choice was much larger than ghengis ever. The meats are cut too thin to add much flavor. The beef was a frozen blob. I enjoyed the food, and it was great for the price point since it was all you can eat. They have all the seasoning sauces at the end, so you add it into your bowl before you asked them to cook it at the grill. Make sure to tell them if you want an egg or two or rice before the cooks start grilling. Your entry fee also include egg drop soup and ice cream at the end. I didn't like the egg drop soup. They scape off the food before starting the next customers but by the looks of the trays, they maybe only clean those at the end of the day. We have loved coming to this place over the years! The family loves to pick out all the fresh meat and veggies and watch them be cooked to perfection! Love that you can ask for an egg and rice for fried rice while your food is being cooked. The service is excellent and they worked very hard to make everything right for you. Love the complementary ice cream and fortune cookie. Mongolian BBQ is my favorite, and I have to admit that I may have actually enjoyed the food, however what utterly ruined the experience for the entire family were the restrooms. Now I'm down with hole-in-the-wall family restaurants, and actually have a pretty high tolerance for restrooms that...uh...need some improvement. But their restrooms are quite possibly in the worst shape of any restaurant in memory. Had I not driven across the metroplex to eat here, I would have immidiately left. How they haven't been called out by the health department is utterly beyond me. A random pipe comes down from the ceiling and empties into a bucket next to the toilet, and there's a coffee can underneath the urinal to...um...catch the leaking urinal drain? I mean, seriously, not only is it disgusting buildup of rust and grime - strangely, mostly on the walls rather than the inside of toilets and sinks - but you even have to pull a telephone cord to flush the toilet!‍ I debated whether to post this review, but there has to be some minimal level of standards and self-respect. There aren't enough Mongolian places in the metroplex, so hopefully they will make some improvements. read more

5 things to consider before & while eating here! (Also, reason why it's missing 1-star down below): 1. For those who don't know, this is an "ALL YOU CAN EAT" Mongolian grill. All you can eat, not all you can waste. IF YOU'RE NEW TO EATING AT TON'S, don't watch others come up to the serving area get two bowls & you decide to get two bowls too. Start with one bowl first & see if you can finish it then proceed to get one more bowl. Often times people are full with just two bowls so take that in consideration! 2. The staff is SUPER friendly & they WILL REMEMBER YOU. Trust me, my wife, her sister & best friend have been coming to Ton's at least once to a few times a year since they were in high school 10+ years ago, they've NEVER had a conversation with the waitresses up until recently & guess what? The waitress even remembers when they first started coming there as well as who they used to go with! They usually just have one waitress serving everyone on the weekdays so be patient with them! They really do strive to provide the best service they can to you specifically especially with the amount of workload that they can maintain. 3. THERE ARE EXTRA THINGS THAT THEY OFFER! I don't know if this is everything but they offer: - When they seat you: Bowl of rice (small or large bowl), Lemon slices, Egg drop soup, Tortillas (I made a little Mongolian grill taco & it was delicious.) - When you're next to have your food cooked you can also request: Any amount of eggs you'd like to be cooked with your food (2-3 eggs is perfect btw for 1 bowl of food, 3-4 eggs is perfect for 2 bowls), Rice cooked with your food, Sriracha cooked with your food (or any of the sauces they offer), Bonus: They have ice cream after you're finished eating. :) 4. There is a "Tong's Mongolian Grill" nearby, DO NOT GO THERE. It was bought & rebranded for marketing relevance so when people hear about "Ton's Mongolian Grill" your google search will show you "Tong's". Absolutely a disrespectful because apparently back then before it was bought out, it was called "Ton's Mongolian Grill". If you read their reviews it's actually terrifying what customers go through there. Dying restaurants like "Tong's" will often resort to cheaper products & ingredients that could potentially make you sick. Bottomline: Come to this one, "Ton's" Mongolian Grill. 5. Here's the missing 1 star review: The owner should just hire a cleaning service to clean up the bathrooms & flooring . Pay it once & the staff can maintain it by theirselves or pay it monthly. A note for the owners: Your restaurant is an "ALL YOU CAN EAT" restaurant. If you're looking to expand your reach to customers outside of Grand Prarie, customers need to feel comfortable using your bathrooms if they have a big appetite & fast metabolism. ***I'll come back & update this review with a full 5 stars if there's been proper cleaning performed throughout the entire restaurant. This place is not fancy, but it is always clean, and the staff are some of the kindest and most attentive humans you will ever meet. They always remember the order of everyone in your party, after the first visit. They remember what drink you will have, etc. I have been caretaker for my elderly mom, and when we would take her there to eat, and it was one of the few places she would go and actually eat, they would seat us where her wheelchair was easily accomodated, and do all they could to make things easire for us. In the end, they would NEVER allow me to pay for her meals!!! My mom has passed on now, but this was the one outting she enjoyed until her end. My now 27 year old son has eaten there since he was able to eat as a baby, and they always still remember him!! The food is addictive, to boot. I love this place. read more

I normally don't go to these types of restaurants and there is a good reason for that starting with its more a buffet than anything and the thin sliced chicken, beef and pork are all piled up on giant mounds that aren't covered so you know there are things landing on this food especially with bad habits people have these days. My family and I wanted Mongolian and searched the nearest place. We're new to Texas and the area so we we're pretty excited to give this place a try! Well it was quite the mistake. As soon as you walk in, you can feel the hallow vibes of needing help and a deep cleaning. Everything inside felt Caked up with grease such as tables, chairs, counters. Everything felt grimy. The raw meats were thawed out. As I was serving my bowls, here comes a lady worker behind me cleaning up the excess spillage of vegetables from the counter and puts them back inside the vegetables containers to be eaten by us guests. I thought that was pretty odd in the moment. Now looking back it's pretty gross. Those counters probably haven't been sanitized. The cooking area was filthy, caked on burnt foods, broken egg shells everywhere. The carpet is a darker burgundy or green color I can't remember, but I can't imagine how filthy the carpet is, they have broken chairs on the side for display I think. Luckily I didn't use the restroom and I've read other reviews saying they're bad. The ceiling vents were disgustingly, dusty. You're pretty much dining in a toxic, sickening environment at this point. For the food: The Hispanic looking cooks were rude. I had made 2 bowls one spicy for me and the other non spicy for my kid. They ended up mixing both bowls together on the cook top and served on 1 plate. and when I asked them about it they said "oh it was separate?" And shrugged their shoulders at me. My toddler didn't end up eating her portion bc it was too spicy and I didn't want to waste it and get charged for it if I made her another one. The meat was very tough and thick, the noddles are straight up the cheapest box of spaghetti noodles you could ever find. The sauces are extremely watered down, with no flavor.I had to put a bunch of soy sauce and chili at the table. The rice was dry as the Sahara desert, you can tell it was old. The server was nice I guess, she offered ice cream once she realized we noticed how disgusting the vents are. We kindly declined. Who knows how often they sanitize their ice cream machine. They're more worried about their Buddha decorations and incenses burning to clean up or fix anything in their restaurant. For the owners: If this is what you want to represent as "Mongolian food" sorry but this is utterly unacceptable and incredibly disgusting. Do better. My wife and I have been eating at Ton's Mongolian (not to be confused with the "other" Ton's in Mansfield) since I moved to TX in '98. We try to come as often as possible for several reasons: 1. Great customer service. 2. All-you-can-eat. 3. Reasonable prices. 4. Some of the best tasting Egg Drop and Hot and Sour Soups you can find anywhere. 5. Dessert of soft-serve ice cream is included, and also AYCE. We dine here most often on weekend days, shortly after they open, when it's less crowded. There are two servers, my wife and I call them 'The Sisters', who ALWAYS provide great customer service. One of them also knows exactly what we want: 2 diet cokes, egg drop for wifey, hot and sour for me, side of rice, with a little extra for me. I'm originally from Hawai'i, so that means I'm a rice kinda guy LOL. I wish I knew their names, so perhaps I should ask the next time. Food choices are extensive and simple to figure out. You take two bowls, one for the protein, and one for the veggies. Proteins are beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, imitation crab, white fish and tofu. Sausages are available after 5 pm. Veggie selection is very extensive: carrots, celery, potato slices, tomatoes, onions, scallions, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots slices, mushrooms and jalapeños. I may have missed a couple, since they have so many! And for you pasta fans, noodles are also there for the choosing. Sauces are nothing to sneeze at either: hot oil, sesame seed oil, simple syrup, salt water, soy sauce, oyster sauce, cooking sherry, vinegar, ginger and garlic. I always add at least two scoops of garlic. Bring your bowls up to the front and watch the cooks prepare them on a huge, circular grill. As an added bonus, you can add eggs and rice to your meal too. Great customer service. Check. Customizable meals. Check. Affordable prices. Check. Great tasting. Check. Yep, this place checks off all the boxes on my list of ideal eateries! ***Special note*** Dining room is closed during this pandemic, but to-go is available. Gloves will be provided. Food is GREAT. But extra for sausages is a bit much. The let you have your first to-go tray for free but the rest you will have to pay for. People there are really nice and you can get some ice cream after you eat as well. Not too loud, you can watch them cook your food or others if you're waiting. Bathrooms do need to be cleaned and more shown. I'm still giving this five stars because it gives memories of all the times me and my dad going to another one (this one is the only one open now and all the others have closed down including the one I went to) and hanging out the having a father-son day but after most closed he passed so it's a place I go to to remember him. read more

We went to Genhiz Khan in Arlington last month and had a really nice experience wanted to try a new place. We saw the good reviews here so we were hungry and decide to drop in. We are both in the medical field. The owners are super nice BUT if this place is in California, it would be shut down immediately by our health inspectors. The bathrooms was not clean, not sure when they really clean it properly or fix anything. The whole place should be deep cleaned and properly wiped/disinfect. My bf is 6 feet 2 inches tall. He was grossed out by how filthy the top of the food covers are... Also the RED light over their fresh meat is a big red flag. All you can eat is great but we would rather they focus on the cleanliness of the restaurant FIRST. The windows, the tables, the chairs.. the blinds - everything needed to be wiped with soap/alcohol/disinfectant. They should really have their cooking staff clean the stir fried area- it looks bad. Old egg shells and left over food fell off from days ago just sitting around. It was not sanitary, especially our first time there as new diners. This place is far from the other places we have been to. We just hope no one got sick after their visit here. We are not one to give bad reviews but to operated a restaurant in USA, they really should make the time and spend some money to DEEP CLEAN everything and FIX the toilets! I have been a fan of TON's for years beginning at the location that used to be in Desoto. However, this location is disgusting. It is absolutely filthy. The commode in the men's bathroom has a metal cord for you to pull to flush. Bathrooms were filthy. Even when you walk in things like the video games were filthy. I should have trusted my instincts and left but because of our fondness for TON's we stuck it out... The food did not taste right. Not even the soup. My granddaughter and I both got sick from the food. Avoid this place. I hope the rest of them are better than this read more
