I got a Groupon for Tonicity and easily made the appointment on their Facebook page. I had to make a couple of changes to the appointment, which were also easily executed. The morning of my massage Kia called me to let me know she was running late. Since the massage was on my day off, and I understand traffic in the DMV are is insane, it was of minimal concern to me.
I arrived at the establishment and had a little confusion figuring out where I was going. Tonicity is in a shared space. The building IS 1425 H St NE, the windows are covered and the building is being renovated. The door is locked, and it took another client for another business being let in for me to be able to ask them if I was in the right place. (I also could've called Kia, I know). The gentleman let me in, was super friendly and directed me to have a seat while I waited for Kia. She arrived, and Phillip arrived and my BF went with Kia, I went with Phillip. The rooms are not high end nice, but they are clean and smell nice, and the music is relaxing. Phillip was absolute magic. He is the kind of person made to be a massage therapist. He was well versed in anatomy and managed my muscles in a way unlike I have ever received a massage. The spot in my back which has never felt relief after a massage or chiropractor, and which I was concerned might be spinal, Phillip found a giant knot and worked relentlessly on it for dozens of minutes. He asked me to take a deep breath, and as he pressed, I felt every muscle around my ribcage crackle and the pain and tension were gone. Phillip stretched my arms, legs, back and skillfully loosened every bit of tension and tightness he found.
My BF left his massage with Kia and as soon as we hit the street said "That was [expletive] incredible!". We both agree that if what you're looking for is to be actually worked over and loosened and left feeling amazing, instead of a light pressure rub with scheduled time for each limb, go to Tonicity.
