Van and Madds just have a comfortable vibe that relaxes someone like me who is anxious about people touching my hair. I came in tonight and had just another relaxing experience with Van. I'm new to AZ Tempe, and it's utterly terrifying to find a colorist and hairdresser when you don't know anyone. I don't typically blow dry my hair but kind of felt like it today. The left side of my hair looks like someone took a razor to it and the right side looks like normal layers. Like WTF!!!! To make matters worse..... the owner gave me the haircut. Maybe she didn't think I'd notice since I told her I never flat iron my hair. I feel so irritated right now. Like who does this?! Update: they offered to fix the cut, but I realized that the balayage is also uneven and in certain areas is looking a little orange, even though I was told it took well and 90% of my hair was virgin. I'm going to contact their corporate office and try and get my money back. These idiots totally ruined my hair. No way in hell I'm letting them get near it again because this time I may just walk out with no hair at all. I really do hope Tony & Guy in the U.K. has higher standards. read more

I originally made an appointment to get my hair cut and colored. When I came in the stylist let me know that he only does hair cuts and not color that they would have to book a second appointment for me to get my color done. So I paid $80 the first time just to get my hair cut and came in Monday to get my hair colored with colorist Van. I brought a photo of what I was hoping to get for my hair which was a basic ombre with a money piece at the front. Nothing crazy. In the end not only was my hair darker and didn't look anything like what I had asked for but I was charged $300. (I'm not including the tip I left for both stylists') they said I could come back and get my hair fixed and apologized. I have known her for years and have been dying to get in her chair for a cut on my natural hair. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she definitely executed it perfectly! I called 2 hours before and was able to get an appointment the same day at the Tempe Marketplace Toni and Guy Salon. I went to someone who I knew nothing about. She was very professional and thorough with what I wanted. She listened to what I wanted and gave me exactly as I wished. I don't like chemicals and styling. I just want a very well done haircut and minimal product. She delivered EVERYTHING I wanted!! Usually, I'm the one to go home and wash my hair to get the product and styling out of it after my haircut. Not needed with Madds! She did everything as requested! Beautiful job!!! Getting my haircut is one of my least favorite things to do - mostly because it never turns out the way I want. I had a friend use this place to color her hair, and I found a Groupon deal, so I took the plunge. I got my hair cut my Justin, and he was fantastic! I showed him and explained in detail what I wanted. He provided his feedback, and made a recommendation to alter a few things due to the texture/length of my hair. I truly appreciated this because I ended up with a fabulous haircut thanks to his suggestions. Before he began cutting my hair, he explained what he would do step-by-step. This should have been written in February. So, I went to another salon and 2 different stylists told me I was going to have to shave my head. I was in tears, could barely walk I was so distressed. And they showed no compassion, whatsoever. I've always had long, dense, golden-colored hair. For reasons, it was severely matted and tangled. I hadn't washed it or brushed it in 3 weeks. I normally take very good care of my hair. I'm in my 40's btw. I called Toni & Guy at Tempe and sent them a pic of my mess. The stylist, Marisa, said she thought she could take care of it. The next day I met her. She initially told me a couple hours. In total, it took close to 20 hours and 3 visits but she saved my hair and it looked great. The patience she showed, while untangling my hair, strands at a time, was incredible. Two other ladies helped with the process as well. So nice and professional. They truly cared and saved my hair. One stylist did my color and a different one did my cut. Juan Ramon was my colorist. My color ended up different than expected. But I'm embracing my new redhead color. She offered for me to come back within two weeks to fix it. I didn't want to over-process my hair. So she gave me a free hair conditioning treatment. S. Reign Hendricks cut my hair. Let me start with this: KENZY is who you want. Here's a little story...a few years ago I met Kenzy at the Toni & Guy in San Tan and I immediately loved her. Not just because of her mad skills with shears (she creates the most gorgeous hair!) but because she is an amazing human being. Then I moved to Denver after two years seeing Kenzy and had to keep starting over with stylists. You guys, it's a drag starting over after you trust your stylist. Then a few months ago I moved back to AZ and found that Kenzy was taking a break from hair to finish another degree. SAD. SAD. SAD (for me, amazing for her!) I saw a couple of other great stylists at T&G San Tan but it just wasn't the same. And now folks, Kenzy is back!! Hallelujah! This girl is so gifted, she can literally just look at you and tell you exactly what will (and will not) work for you based on your style, face shape, etc. She's not just a stylist, she's a creative artist (genius!). The process of getting my hair done wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I we had agreed on/what I wanted - the bad part was trying to get ahold of the salon owners to either issue a refund for my hair or allow me to come back in for a re do. Worst experience ever! if i can give a zero star i would! My girlfriend went there yesterday, Friday October 11th to get her hair dyed because she did not like the color she had on at the time. She showed a picture to her stylist, Michael and told him that was the color she wanted and he said he can do it. He continued to do her hair confidently. When he finished, it was nothing close to what she wanted! She went there to change her previous hair color but came out of the place with the exact same hair color she did not want.... we asked the manager and the stylist if there is anything they can do because she paid $300 for hair she did not like at all.. plus it was so dried out.... they shrugged it off as if it was not their fault. Now my girlfriend has "hay stack" hair and needs to leave it like that for a couple weeks... on top of this, she got burn marks from the bleach all over the side of her hairline. In all the years I've been getting my hair done I've never received so many compliments after visiting Toni&Guy at Tempe Marketplace. I'm obsessed with the magic Christine (color) and Kenzzy (style) worked on my hair. No stylist has ever really utilized their creative freedom on me and these two really went for it; not completely out of my comfort zone but just on the edge. One downside is I was at the salon for nearly 5 hours. My appointment got pushed back 30 mins (they gave me a courtesy call as a heads up) but then I waited another 30 mins in reception. They did offer for me to see another lower level colorist but I declined. I am glad I waited it out though. The final product was worth it. read more

This is my new favorite hair salon that I am making my go to for my hair needs. I've always had trouble finding a place that knows how to work with my massive mane. I have long, super curly, thick hair. Usually other salons i have tried see it as a lot of work and rush through it. This salon IS THE BEST. You seriously can't go wrong with working with anyone. They are all greatly trained and they have an awesome manager overseeing their work in case they have questions....these people know hair. I showed them pictures off Pinterest of what I wanted and they make it happen every time. Alexander Cota dyed my hair: he took what I did like about my current hair along with the picture off of Pinterest and combined them to beautiful coloring...I'M SO HAPPY. He gave me a great deep condition that made my hair SO FREAKING SOFT. Justin Ling styled my hair, gave me product reccomendations for my hair and at home remedies for my seasonal dry scalp. This is the part people usually get lazy or worn out since I have so much hair. He was SO GREAT. My hair was styled exactly how I wanted it and it looked SO GOOD. Amazing space; amazing experience. I called in a panic needing a same day appointment so that I could feel presentable at my husband's surprise party that evening. I had been so consumed with pulling off an amazing birthday for him that I forgot to take care of myself. The receptionist was patient and helpful. I asked questions about pricing and groupons and color - all were answered. He even grabbed the colorist to consult with me over the phone. When I got in, the service was just as excellent! Coffee, water, kind conversation, and a seriously amazing hair transformation. Arianna added a million highlights to spring my dull brown into a blonde that I love. Justine and Alley are a fabulous team and I was happy with my recolor and cut. Justine has great personality and listened attentively to my needs and was quick with the touch up. Alley took great care in making sure my cut was done correctly & did an amazing job with my cut. I was able to create time to visit the Toni and Guy location at Tempe Marketplace. I went in with the mind frame of having my hair done to my liking (or what is possible through the stylist eyes). I had my hair done by Justine who RAVED about sleeping with a business associate of mine. Completely unprofessional. She left me unattended for any where from 20-40 mins at a time. This was ridiculous. Second, she was lifting (Bleaching) my hair. She took me to about a "level 7" and this is what she told me. Then toned me to a caramel - WHY would you do that when i requested a lighter color. I was unhappy so I contacted the San Tan Location and Kristen did my hair. She also lifted my hair to about a 7 and said she toned to where the "brassy and yellow was no longer visible." I walked outside and looked into the mirror - AND BOOM! I was the color of a cheetah - without the cheetah print of course. At this point, I am completely over processing my hair - So I called to speak with the franchiser - who is having "store managers" return my call for him. I spoke with the store manager at the San Tan location requesting a refund. The Store Manager states that I need to VISIT HER LOCATION so she can examine my hair. I believe they have inconvenienced me enough and I just want a refund. At this point, driving even 20 minutes out of my day to get to a refund I deserve is outrageous. Not to mention, terrible business practice. (Let me remind you, each appointment was already 4 hours long, so thats 8 hours wasted at Toni and Guy). I ended up going out on a limb and went to a school (THE SCHOOL IS NOT TONI AND GUY AFFILIATED). Needless to say, A COSMETOLOGY STUDENT WAS ABLE TO TONE MOST OF THE YELLOW AND ORANGE OUT OF MY HAIR. This was the MOST horrible experience I have ever had at any salon I have ever been to. Please be very cautious when picking your next salon. read more

I needed to get a last minute cut and color and these guys happened to have an opening (miraculously). Nicole did my color and Alex did my haircut- omg my hair looks divine. The color process took longer than I was expecting but to be fair, I had JUST dyed over my hair on my own from purple to black (my new job is not down with amethyst hair) so I'm sure some color correction was needed. Alex did a gorgeous cut. He was the first since I moved to Arizona over a year ago to have zero qualms with my hair being cut into a deep V. He topped it off with a divine blowout with a small round brush that I'll never be able to replicate on my own, which just gives me an excuse to go in and see him again. Loved my experience here so much. I haven't had a salon I've been committed to but I for sure found my people here. All the employees were extremely nice and made the time go quickly.
