    Thai Silk Flowerhorn

I moved out here to about 7 months ago! Been to a few different fish stores and all was pretty much the same. Your usual African cichlids, goldfish, discuss, betas, and plecos. But after walking into this shop I was greeted by Ty, which was very helpful and knowledgeable! I purchased a nice 3Inch SRD flowerhorn from him at such a good price it was hard to say no! I highly recommend this shop if you're lookin to get a tank started or just want something out of the ordinary that other fish stores don't carry. He will help you select and get everything you need to get started and answer your phone calls and any questions you may have!

First went to Tom's when I just started in this aquarist game and I couldn't really appreciate all they had to offer. Now that's it's been a good amount of time I can really give a good evaluation. This spot is definitely a hidden gem. Not in the greatest of strip malls but that has never deterred me from checking out a fish store. When you walk in and make a left you encounter a huge room wrapped with tanks with them going down the middle as well. The neat thing about this place is they have fish that are small and also grown for you fish lovers with more mature tanks. They also sell rare fish you won't find elsewhere such as Pikes, grown Arowanas, Sharks and Rhino fish. They also had one of the healthiest tanks of about 40 tiger barbs that I have seen in any store. The owner is related to the owner's of Tiki's in Bellflower and P&P in Cypress and are always willing to cut deals. Especially on items in the front of the store where are of their supplies and dry goods are. This place is definitely geared toward the more advanced hobbyist but have a little something for everyone.

I strongly recommend this place for all your reef keeping needs. (Freshwater too!) If interested heres a little story... If not, just take my word for it and shop here. - This week I decided to relocated my reef tank for a better view in the house... biggest mistake ever! Everything that could've gone wrong, went wrong. I underestimated the weight of the tank thinking I could just get by with 90% of the water drained and removal of the sump and equipment, I was definitely wrong! I ended up pulling out everything, but the sand. Every coral, every invert, every fish... yes including 4 wrasses and a goby that all like to hide in the sand bed, I mean EVERYTHING! I then accidentally broke my rock structure into several pieces in the process of lifting them out of the tank and putting them into bins. Trying not to lose too much temp, I moved as fast as I could and used as many spare heaters as possible. It was a total disaster! After glueing back all the rock work that broke into pieces and moving everything back into the tank, I was unsure of how my fishes and corals would react to this sudden change in temp, biology and chemistry. 4 hours later, I finally got the tank running again (in it's new location,) I then noticed a huge bacterial bloom, Im guessing from the stirring of the sand bed. I then decided to do a water change to see if it would help. To add to my streak of badluck, I had no saltwater prepped. I quickly rushed to Age of Aquariums to get saltwater. That's where I was greeted by Isaac. He knew something was wrong. All I said was "I decided to move my tank" he already knew where I was going. I told him my problems and concerns and hesitancy to move my livestock back into the tank. He recommended several products to me, answered a bunch of questions I had and gave me solid advice. He also allowed me to borrow several containers for saltwater as long as i promised to bring them back. I am truly grateful. 2 days later, my tank is bouncing back. I had 0 losses. Fishes are happy and corals are all starting to open up again. Im leaving this review to share my experience with those new to the hobby, getting into the hobby and those who have been in the hobby for a long time. You can always get cheaper products elsewhere, especially online... but, you will never get the support of a local fish store. Support you LFS, like they support us.

They also clearly know what they're doing. The staff is knowledgeable and can answer questions without giving you that blank stare you sometimes get at other aquarium shops. But the pricing is honestly kind of shocking. A lot of their equipment is outrageously overpriced compared to what you can find online or even at other local stores. For example, I saw a UNS double valve connector selling for about $60 when the same thing is easily available online for around $20. They also had the Kessil 35° reflector priced at $50, and I've never seen those go for more than $30 or $35 anywhere else. I get that local fish stores have overhead and can't always compete with online pricing, and I'm totally fine paying a little more to support a brick and mortar shop. But some of these markups feel excessive. If you need something immediately and don't mind paying a premium, it's a solid store with good selection and knowledgeable staff. Just be prepared for some pretty steep prices on certain items. Overall I'd say it's worth visiting, but definitely price check before buying equipment.
