A friend took me to this fast food restaurant for breakfast and the food was delicious. The portion size was humongous. We ordered different breakfast so we could try each others platters. The service was excellent. Starting with the order taker who gave us our coffee right away, to the owner offering a " Good Morning". Our food was delivered quickly and when they came around to pick up dishes there was another person refilling the coffee cups. I guess to go orders need improvement here. I knew I had a very very busy day today so I decided to stop by for breakfast since I wasn't sure what time I'd have time to eat lunch. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. I'm not a fan of eggs so my order was the steak w/ gravy, hash browns, and toast. As I get home to enjoy my meal Im throughly disappointed. It looks like someone threw up my food and gave it out. My hash browns were soaked in gravy, the steak was falling apart, the gravy was extremely watery, and the toast was burnt ( and not cut in half). It's like someone just threw all the food in the box without a care in the world. The food was visually unappealing and not very good either. The hash browns were basically ruined. As they were drenched in gravy. I am very disappointed especially since it was a waste of money. The most underrated breakfast spot in Pasadena. Pre-Covid, this place was just the perfect little diner- it's totally clean and cute inside with big booths for a lot of friends, amazing prices for gigantic portions, and they would open at 6am. Now, due to pandemic, there isn't really indoor dining and the hours are a bit tighter BUT the quality and prices of the food remain fantastic! I'm a regular at Tom's for sure; huge fan of their breakfast burritos that I honestly think are the best in Pasadena. The employees are also always so out of this world nice- it's a pleasure to just pick up food there and consistently have positive staff interactions. I don't know if it's normal to give shoutouts by name on Yelp so I'll avoid doing that BUT as a general shoutout for managment- everyone who works at Toms that I've encountered has been nothing short of PHENOMONAL! Came in for breakfast, and had the bacon breakfast burrito with a coffee. Burrito was great, and I really liked the coffee, not burnt at all. The only thing I had an issue was reading the menu, but I also didn't have my glasses on. I can usually read other menus, but other menus have huge lettering. So no biggy on the menu. Yet, this last time I came to visit, I was greeted by Angelo who had a face of anger and not customer service oriented. I asked him for a Coke three times and I never got it. It just too sad that people like him work in the service business. Plus, he had to smoke outside where I was dining. This place has been in Pasadena since I was a kid. They knocked the old building down and totally renovated the burger place. They have a huge menu and it's available all day. Unfortunately I did not like toms... when we first walked in they hand you menus so that kind of confuses you because you still have to go and order your own food... 2 stars because it was clean... Only gave me cheese fries with pastrami but they fixed it... the fries were stale had no flavor to them so they kind of turned me off for the rest of the meal... my mother ordered the classic burger with no thousand island dressing and asked for mayo instead they might as well have dipped the meat in there too... ridiculous amount of mayo on the burger and the fries were stale and cold... not impressed.. A disappointing meal on every level. Ordering was frustrating, with the person taking our order seemingly very unfamiliar with both the menu and the procedure for taking orders. When the food came, the portions were large but bland. I asked for cocktail sauce to go with my shrimp (something that I would have thought an obvious selection) and had to go through ketchup and ranchero sauce before the server figured out what I wanted. My companions' meals were similarly bland and disappointing. The fried chicken was unsalted, or at best very under salted. The chicken fried steak was overly breaded, over cooked, and under seasoned. But when my unsweetened iced tea cup was taken away and refilled with a mystery sweetened beverage, I lost all faith in the kitchen. There are few things less reassuring at a food establishment than being served an unknown substance. I complained to the manager and got almost no reaction at all. A mumbled apology. A shrug of the shoulders. Nothing in any way satisfying. I added an extra star because the restaurant was clean and, after I complained, the servers kept coming up to us to ask if everything was OK. Tried the new Tom's today! Was very impressed with the friendly employees, that greeted us promptly upon entering. They have easy to read menus as well as a menu board, multiple cashiers to take your order, and even servers to bring your food and drink refills. The speed of service is exceptional, especially when considering the massive volume of customers they had on this Sunday afternoon. I had the Classic Cheeseburger add pastrami with Feta Fries. It was big, but there are plenty of napkins at the table, which I used a lot of. The fries were seasoned well and crisp but not overcooked. I love this place! At first we were greeted by the service crew with great smiles on their faces. Although you can tell some of the members of the crew are not "very friendly" when it comes to customers but the service they provided us was great! There are members of the crew that shows how they don't like their jobs but come on, at least give us a smile not a straight face. Anyway, the food is GREAT!
