On 8/19/2024, I had cataract surgery on my left eye. Dr. Zobian removed the cataract, used a laser to correct my astigmatism, and then implanted a new lens. My eye was bandaged, and I went home. The next morning, I woke up to complete fuzziness and severely impaired vision. Over the next two months, I continued seeing Dr. Zobian but was repeatedly told everything had been done perfectly, despite my ongoing issues. The attitude I encountered was dismissive and arrogant. For context: Two weeks before this, I had cataract surgery on my right eye, which was very successful. I chose a lens for my left eye that was supposed to allow me to see up close without glasses. The staff at Tomoka Eye Center have generally been very good--my concerns are specifically with Dr. Zobian. At the recommendation of a retina specialist in Port Orange, I sought care at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. They are an incredible facility, and I would strongly encourage anyone considering cataract surgery to seek care there, even if it requires travel. I will never allow Tomoka Eye Center to treat me again. I am currently seeking legal representation. Unfortunately, two major challenges exist: Florida's medical malpractice laws heavily favor physicians over patients. There is a two-year statute of limitations. I believe Tomoka Eye Center is aware of this timeline and is simply waiting it out. I only approached them after months of due diligence and extensive evaluations at Bascom Palmer. Once I exhausted all other avenues, I attempted to have a conversation with Tomoka. I spoke once with their operations director and have received no follow-up. Today, I am legally blind in my left eye. I rely entirely on my right eye and now wear trifocals just to function. This experience has profoundly changed my life and who I am as a person. You don't truly understand how important your vision is until it's compromised. To then be dismissed by a doctor is deeply frustrating and disheartening. I share these so others will think carefully before choosing where to trust their care. Your sight is too important to take lightly. read more

Found out I had cataracts and at the time was told to wait a little longer. Well a little longer came and now I'm in the process of getting them taken care of. The original Dr I saw is not there any longer so I've only seen Dr Hess and Dr Kline. I would recommend them both. Friendly, caring and answered all questions. read more

Drs do not take time with you. I had a cataract removed and they put in the best implant. So far I have had lazer to remove tissue! Now drops to relieve dryness and compresses! Now a prescription that costs $500 a month! What next? read more

Nice big practice. Thorough exam. Doc totally lacked any personality. Very brusque bordering on rude. Dictated notes to someone during the eye exam then looked at me and said, " any questions?" Well, yeah. What did you just see in my eyes that you dictated to her?! Seemed to think it was a waste of his time to tell me it's allergies. "It's Florida. It's allergy season." Was considering changing eye docs to go to Tomoka going forward but I'll go the place where the doc is nice, smiles, tells me what's going on, etc. read more

I'm not happy with them. First I waited 40 minutes past my appointment time before I was called in. My time is just as valuable as their time. Then after sitting with the technician for at least 30 minutes I was told they need to dilate my eyes and do a pressure test. I'm used to the puff of air for the pressure test and that's not how they do it there. They put drops in and touch your eye with an instrument so I declined that test. then they wanted to dilate my eyes and I said no. I was told they couldn't see me. Because I declined a test? Well if I was at my primary care doctor and he suggested I needed a test I can decline and continue with the exam. Just another way to collect more $$$ and I don't like that. read more

Been coming here years; cataracts by Dr zobian - did great job problem was his staff . had 2 issues : both administrative 1. was scheduling issue for an early appt time for 2nd surgery : evidently their lady who sets up everything from beginning (Charlotte) didn't let the people in scheduling know I needed an early morning time - they set me up for noon. I finally got this fixed but only after I came in and explained I would have to cancel everything (2nd surgery) if I couldn't : due to work. 2. biggest problem ; on final pre surgical appt your taken in to see Charlotte who does your paperwork and provide basic procedure and Options and paperwork. -they do 1 eye at a time - 1 week apart. she explained the options - which included extra for laser surgery as a part of the catarac. mention was made of 2 types laser to get. one for laser to give you effect of having progressive lenless in glasses with your surgery giving you both distance and reading ability At additional cost of about $3,000. other options I didn't qualify for. she stated have 2 options on the replacement lense if I opted out of the laser feature. Get a lense for either reading or distance. she said if for distance : would not need glasses for distance - only reading. So I decided not to do the laser option as i would be OK with wearing glasses for reading. went thru surgery very well w Dr Zobian. very good process. went in for follow i up ps w staff - went well. on 3rd apt (about 3-4 weeks after surgery) had 1st appt w Dr Zobian - mentioned had double vision very bad / very blurred. asked him how long till it normalizes. that's when he said it wouldn't since I didn't choose the laser/lasik option. and I had astigmatism. couldn't believe what I was hearing. NO ONE ever said the laser option would be required for good long distance vision without glasses. NO ONE until Dr Zobian mentioned this. I told him this at this time : he then looked at his assistant and told her to make sure Charlotte is explaining things correctly (which she wasn't) . I'm not sure who is to tell patients proceedures and outcomes but it didn't happen w me at all. I didn't realize everything he was saying until later - sent a letter to him expressing problems. I had my last appt w Dr Zobian for the final check up. said was doing good. we then discussed issue of not being provided correct info for good surgical outcome. I asked what can be done now at this point : he said lets wait couple months for eyes to heal. He never gave me any specifics other than that on future solutions. thought about this few days and decided to make appt to talk to him on what I can do at this point. my main thing was to get this fixed so I could see - that's it. The office did great and gave me appt to see Zobian next day at 1:40 (which I made), while waiting out front got a call from Zobian : guess he wanted to discuss by phone vs meet me in person . I always answer by speaker phone so I can hear better. Anyway we were talking (me sitting in his lobby) about what can be done to fix things and mentioned someone really screwed up - didn't do their job. I wasn't interested in who screwed up at this point - only how to fix. Then some lady was calling my name for the apt to see him - I told her he was on phone w me in the lobby. figured since he called : wasn't interested in talking to me face to face. evidently she went back to Zobians office to tell him. he then told me to take off speaker to finish discussion. then the lady came back out to the lobby while I was still talking to Dr Zobian and told me to hang up - that "other patients were getting upset" which was a lie. no one seemed to be paying any attention. Then Zobian said he would come get me to discuss. which we did. Bottom line is if given correct info to do the laser/lasik done during initial surgeries everything would be good. Now I have to wait 6 months before they will even talk to me and they will not discuss costs or anything else at this point at all. so something smells bad here at this point. So if your getting Cataracs done and they say you might consider a laser option ; Make Sure You Get All The Answers So You Can Make A Good Decision what to do. final note : I'm not sure if their girl who does final paperwork is at fault and knows her job or if she just hasn't been trained correctly. OR at my final appt -while checking out - Charlotte was up front - she told me person thats supposed to tell me about astigmatism and lasik requirements for good outcome and ramifications was the lady who does the Final Measurments - and she was at fault. Incredible! I'm not sure who screwed up. what I do know is Dr Zobian never accepted any fault or provided any solutions. it was up to me to figure it out and he wasn't to happy to see me today to give any solutions. dr Zobian's good - I like him. but I'm not so sure he really cares when there's a big screw up like I had. my guess is they would like me to go away. read more

2 days ago, my husband was told to see an ophthalmologist.. that afternoon I messaged his doctor asking for a referral and she got one for Tomoka Eye Associates. After reading the reviews, I was opposed and wanted him to request a different place, but he refused. Yesterday the lady called because they got the referral and I asked when the first availability was (since reviews talked about months-long wait) and she actually had one for this morning...I was pleased...we took it. The next hurdle was all the reviews that spoke of waiting 3-4 hours to be seen... his appointment was at 8:40, we got there at 8:30, the ladies at the desk were very nice and explained what he should fill out and what to ignore..it took him longer than expected to fill out the paperwork but that's just because he is slow, meanwhile I got a coffee and cookies then played on my iPad. At 8:46 they called us to the back (I did a screenshot because I was testing the wait time against the reviews)... he went to 3 different rooms for various tests and then saw Dr.Hess who seemed to know exactly what he was doing before explaining that what the new optometrist my husband saw (had just gotten his license a month prior) was not Optic Nerva Pallor as feared, but rather just an abnormally large optic nerve (nearly double the size).. After all was said and done, all testing seeing the doc and the appointment made to come back in a year to check the nerve, by the time I started the car it was 9:36 so wait and all, we were there just about an hour. I was VERY PLEASED! I will become a patient when it's time for my next checkup. read more

If they cancel your appointment don't tell me the next available is in 6 months. Sooooo unacceptable

At my last visit I complained about dry eye, I was told to use drops and warm compresses. Tried this for several weeks condition seemed to worsen making me miserable. Called for an appointment and was told no doctor available at any of their locations the month of July and August. What good does it do to become an established patient when you can't be seen when you really need help. Not happy, will search elsewhere. read more

Very nice location with a comfortable waiting area. Bring a jacket if you will be sitting next for a bit since it is cold. The staff was great for checking and since I was the designated driver there is coffee and snacks that you can have while waiting. read more

I've been going to the Port Orange office for several years, the service has always been great. I've had a couple of eye emergencies on days when my doctor was not in the office, and I was seen by the doctor that was there that day. No complaints. During covid, they made space inside so patients are not sitting close to each other, they took temperatures, and put chairs outside, which by the way, are very comfortable. At first I was reluctant to sit outside, but on my next visit, I did, and it was actually pleasant to sit in the fresh air, they came out to get me when it was time for my appointment. As of today 6/2021, everyone there is wearing masks, and everything is very clean. The wait sometimes is a little long, the room where you wait while your pupils dilate is a little small and can get crowded. Other than they do a great job. read more

I made an appt as a new patient, arrived 20 mins early as requested and they couldn't find my info anywhere. On their website they have 3 different phone numbers listed, one for port orange, one for Ormond beach and one for palm coast. I called the number for Ormond beach, as that is where I live, and apparently their call center scheduled me in the palm coast location. The only thing they offered to do was allow me to wait around until all of the docs other patients were done and they could maybe squeeze me in. Are you kidding me? So I'll just sit here for probably over an hour waiting b/c of your company's incompetence, no thank you. I'll take my business elsewhere, with people that know what they're doing and know how to provide customer service. Appalling first and last impression. read more

I made an appointment in April 2021. I was told they would send all the paperwork including medical history to me to fill out and I was to mail it back or bring into the office at appointment. A week before my appointment I received a call from Tomoka Eye requesting I give them all my medical history over the phone at that time. I said they were sending me the form to fill out and bring with me to appointment. The clerk said "we can do it over the phone instead". I interrupted my work and answered all the medical history questions on the phone. I then received the forms to fill out in the mail the next day. I called and told them I spent 15-20 plus minutes on the phone answering all these questions but they insisted it has to be in writing also and that they do this with all patients. I felt they didn't care one iota that they were interrupting my work time and putting me through the same procedure unnecessarily. I have never, ever in all my years had a doctor's office treat me this way and not care or respect me as a valued patient. Nor did I get the impression that one hand knows what the other is doing. My appointment went south without even stepping in the door. Off to find an organized eye doctor. read more

I had cataract surgery .. I have had issues since the surgery so had to revisit the office for follow-up.. it was necessary to go to Port Orange and then the next appointment in Ormond Beach. The port orange visit was scheduled to be his first patient of the day. The doctor arrived 50 minutes late. A quick I'm sorry and then acted as if nothing was wrong with his tardiness.. The next appointment I was the first patient after lunch again 50 minutes late! Obviously this is a pattern! The doctor was in such a hurry that he didn't even listen to my concerns I felt as if he was reading off a script! Maybe he was upset because we went to the desk and told them we had waited long enough.. One of the nurses ran to the desk and told us he just arrived to please come back, so of course we did! I have numerous friends that are physicians and I've never had to treat them like they are special! Obviously that's what's expected here! My next visit will be with a different doctor! I'm so disappointed ...I really liked the doctor in the beginning I did all my homework and knew that he was a skilled surgeon. No one wants to be treated as if they are insignificant! read more

Very nice and professional staff and Dr. Highly recommend the Palm Coast Facility. My mom has had one surgery by Dr Myer and he did a great job, her second will be in a few days and I feel confident it will be equally as successful. The young lady who does the surgery scheduling is very through, very kind and really took the time to explain all the appointments in details as well as providing a scheduled calendar for the appointments and explaining how and when to use the different eye drops. Which really made things a lot easier for my elderly mom. It was very nice to have such a pleasant experience at a doctors office where everyone was very helpful and kind. read more

After 62 years living in Ormond Beach I have been to several and you will not find me anywhere else now! Your eyes are in the best care, do not hesitate or skimp when it comes to your vision. I note the one not so good review is hidden on this site. One by Ray K. of Palm Coast. I had his same experience. Went to Tomoka Eye for a specific problem (flashes in my peripheral). Had initial examination $83, followed up by a second examination within 2 weeks $77. Nothing out of the ordinary found, then scheduled for a 6 month follow up. However when I went for the 6 months follow-up, without my consent or knowledge additional testing was performed and I was whacked with a $198 bill. As a person on a fixed income and a self-pay this was a shock. Make sure you ask what each procedure is for and how much it will cost before they start so you can refuse these extra add-ons. read more
