Sushi I popped into Tomo as I have been generally unsatisfied with the Sushi places of Suffolk County in general and hats off to Tomo for helping me keep the faith. Chinese owned, but unlike the rest of the sushi mills around the north shore, they put out a very Japanese-like sushi experience. Rolls were all top notch and the help was very attentive and, well helpful. They weren't trying to upsell everything and seemed genuinely happy to see me. I've been a regular at this location for over 7 years now, and I've never been disappointed. The atmosphere is great, especially since they've redone the interior. The food is always delicious and fresh - my two favorites are the Tomo Sushi for 2, and the Jade Roll (highly recommend this if you prefer cucumber instead of seaweed paper). The staff are always pleasant and the service is always A+. The chefs always make a point to wave and say hello when you arrive and this is a great dynamic to have. As others state a hidden gem of a Sushi bar connected to a gas station! Interior is clean but nothing fancy. Prices and portion sizes are FANTASTIC. With the 0.75 USD to CAD conversion, UNBELIEVABLE DEAL. Lots of traditional (cooked) Japanese options too. Not "top" quality on the fish but close. Strange they are missing Hamachi which is pretty standard at sushi places. Nothing super fancy like Monkfish Liver. Their "Toro" has a taste and consitency almost identical to Albacore Tuna and not the Toro I've had at other places. This is a negative review but I'm not changing my rating in hopes Tomo Sushi and fix the errors in there ways....Tomo has been my go to place for over 8 years. The staff is amazing and the food HAS been great. The last 3 times the food has been horrible. Fish not tasting or smelling Freash the rolls very small with almost no fish in them. My favorite sushi restaurant on all of Long Island! So, I live right around the corner from here, and my dad was curious to try this place while my mom was away for the week (she is not very adventurous culinaryily speaking), and this place trumped any sushi place that I have been to east of California. The miso soup here is amazing and perfectly salted. The seaweed salad is seasoned correctly and tastes divine. The rolls are even better than Nagashima's and the sashimi is even better than there! We usually go to Aji across the street being they have a full bar and good apps. My son and his girlfriend stopped into Tomo one day to try something different and loved it. So the wife and give it a shot and boy was it good, the place was empty on a Sunday night but no biggie. We were seated quickly and greated quickly. We put our drink orders in and received a complimentary sushi app and ordered our appetizer of rock shrimp and it was so so. Now on to the sushi rolls I don't remember the names but they were all great and presented beautifully (see pic). We had a great dinner and the wait staff and management checked on us all the time. I avoided Sushi up until a year or two ago. I was always about seeing my fish in front of me and not wrapped up in seaweed. Luckily when you go YOLO status at a Chinese buffet you can do some trial and error with stuff you're not accustomed to. I'm not big into presentation but the Smithtown Roll is banging, its about $13! The last couple of times I've ordered online. Between the time I ordered and when I got there was only 15 minutes and my food was ready. I think its a great place for a Sushi noob like myself. This place is absolutely disgusting. We ordered takeout and sushi tasted incredibly fishy & old. When I called to ask for a refund, the manager screamed at me that they sell 100's of these rolls and that they taste fine. We tried one piece of the sushi and both my partner and I spit it out. He said since we tried a piece we can't get a refund. I'm truly disappointed for their lack of customer service and nasty food. I love Tomo sushi. The prices are slightly higher than those I have paid for in nasssau county but nonetheless the sushi here is great. The lunch special is good and is a nice bang for your buck but it's nothing to write home about. Their speciality rolls are really what I enjoy most. They have a large variety and are all very fresh and filling. We love having some hot sake here and some Sapporo's but the drinks are just never cold enough; they are cool at best. Went for dinner yesterday with my 14/22 year old kids. Everything was kept properly distanced due to Covid. The food was awesome, but I will start with the service, as it was almost like family. The waiter was attentive, kind, and very polite. The food, we ordered squid and shumai to start (both awesome), Sushi deluxe and tobiko/octopus, and the kids ordered the standard hibachi rice and cali rolls. Everything tasted great. All three of us felt that it just 'hit the sushi sweet spot!' Very good Sushi value in greater Smithtown-Northport area. My favorite is the Deluxe Sushi platter for both lunch or dinner w/ included Tuna Roll. Anything on the Lunch Menu is a great value. If you're looking for great food and service, Tomo Sushi is where it's at. I have been eating here for about 10 years now. I have tried most of whats offered on the menu. My favorite is the Monster Roll (tuna, salmon, avocado roll, with tempura eel on top, with drizzle of eel sauce) and a side of different sashimi. The restaurant is small, but offers three different locations to sit. You can sit at a regular table, up at the sushi bar(my favorite) or the tatami room which is a great spot to sit with friends or on a first date. I discovered Tomo while I went to Stony Brook University (over 5 years ago?!?!). What immediately drew me to this restaurant was the Tatami room.
