This is one of my husband and I's favorite sushi place. We've been here so many times! Johnny the manager, greeted us as soon as we walk in and was incredibly warm and welcoming. He also gave us free keychains, which was such a thoughtful touch and instantly set a positive tone for the night. The sushi was always excellent. It's fresh and there were so many options. They also have a bunch of specials that we were not able to try a lot because we were so full but most of the ones we've gotten were really good. Everything we tried tasted clean and well prepared. The staff was also on attentive the whole time and quick to refill drinks and genuinely friendly without hovering. They also have a raffle running right now, which is a fun extra and gives the place a lively vibe. I'm so glad that there is a solid, local sushi fix nearby, our family was so happy to find Kira Sushi. We always come here for all you can eat dinner. The staff here are already embedded to serve all customers like we're one big family. They're also big on raffles, they give away prizes for everyone who dined. We came here after my son's college graduation and were pleasantly surprised they're open until 10 PM on a Friday night. The place was packed, but service was impressively fast. The servers were attentive and checked on us frequently, which made the experience even better. The sashimi was surprisingly warm and fresh -- not something I usually expect from an AYCE spot! They had a wide variety of food choices, including General Tso's chicken on the menu, which was a fun twist. The sushi pizza was a crowd favorite at our table -- definitely a must-try. When we walked into this restaurant, we had some high hopes because of the previous times we've been here in the past I don't know if the management changed or something, but this actually sucked. The serving sizes were weird. The waiter barely told us about the food or the serving sizes. The food was overpriced. Tell me why the chicken teriyaki looked boiled. I give it like 2 out of 10. we tried to send the chicken teriyaki back because this literally looked boiled. I could make this better at home and the manager was really rude to us. Usually they will take it back in a restaurant if you don't like it, that's just how service is we got the bill and the bill was very high because they raised their prices randomly and their menu did not reflect that I don't like this at all. I don't know if the management changed, but I don't think I'm coming back here. The food is not good and the service isnt either. As a self proclaimed sushi and asian food expert, I was excited to try out this AYCE sushi place right in Ronkonkoma. For weekend dinner, expect ~$34 per person. But with that is included a massive menu of included offerings, including sashimi, maki, and special rolls, as well as a super long list of cooked kitchen items. My recommendation would be to go for the sashimi and special rolls. The sunrise/sunset rolls were my favorites and quite tasty, and you can use the sashimi to bolster the rolls. I would stay away from the kitchen items. They are fun to try but did not taste very authentically japanese. Fish was reasonably fresh with fast and friendly service. I didn't have to wait for a table but later in the night I saw a sizable line had started building up. Go early. read more

All you can eat is a crazy concept. After recently visiting Europe and seeing a different side to cuisine and meal etiquette, I don't think I'd ever see a place do that over there...too bad because AYCE sushi at Kira is delicious! My wife and I visited just last week and left with full bellies of tastiness. Kira isn't too far from where I live, but honestly I didn't know of its whereabouts as it's part of a small unsuspecting strip mall on Portion Road. The bright red signing probably gives it away along with the crowdedness of cars in the parking lot. We were lucky to get the last spot and to also only have to wait a couple of minutes while they cleared a table for us (when we were leaving there were a good 7-8 people waiting to be seated). That makes sense because Kira's interior really isn't very big, yet they still offer up that AYCE amongst their semi-kitschy style and snug table setup. The staff (including the manager) are pretty friendly and super quick with getting you your orders. How do you order you ask? Big sheets of paper in folder form includes all of your options. From appetizers to soups to main dishes to a list of specialty sushi rolls, you can find quite a lot of good stuff on this menu. Starting off simple, we ordered edamame and fried pork gyoza which were both delicious. A cup of respectably-tasting clear soup was also consumed. From there, it was a hodgepodge of items that we ordered. My wife loves chicken tempura rolls and I'm a sucker for Philadelphia rolls (I wasn't in an exotic roll mood) so we got those which were both pretty solid in flavor. I also got a Boston roll which was okay, but just might not have been my jam that night. An order of chicken and broccoli was decent and the chicken fried rice was spot on. Once that was done, we tried the vegetable fried rice which was fine, but not as enjoyable as the one with chicken (different veggies and flavor it seemed). We also tried the zucchini tempura which my wife wasn't big on, but I thought it was outstanding. We finished off with some wonderful green tea ice cream and shared a nicely-battered fried Oreo. Somehow, that portion of the meal took the longest to get to us (almost to the point where I thought maybe the waiters forgot we ordered it as it's on the very bottom of the menu sheets), but just before I decided to say something, the dessert showed up. Phew. Overall, Kira does a great job in giving you a speedy and tasty all-you-can-eat experience. There's plenty on the menu I look forward to going back and ordering again with only a couple of small swings and misses. The price isn't too bad either especially during the week so if you're looking to stuff yourself silly (as we in the U.S. often like to do!) then Kira will make it happen! read more

I've driven past this place for years... there's something kinda "off putting" about "all you can eat" sushi... makes you think maybe it's not the best... Let me put you off all of those negative thoughts right at the start: the food is amazing! They offer a large and wide ranging menu from sashimi, to hand rolls, to kitchen entrees. It's ordered in the typical fashion; you grab a menu and check off what you want, and the amount (be careful, it's easy to order too much!) then they bring it to you. It's always fresh, it's always delicious. Having now come here at different times and days, I've always found the food to be consistently good. It's especially good if you have friends or bring children who might be "squeamish" about sushi, but rest assured, the kitchen entrees and apps can more than fill anyone's appetite. Especially good are the honey barbecued ribs, and the tempura selections. They also offer soups, salads, and many, many other options not typically found in a "sushi" establishment. So it's safe to bring "newbies". Now, food aside, there are a few small issues, and if I have any complaints it's this: parking is NOT great. It's located in a small shopping strip mall that they share with several other establishments. On a busy night, you can expect to park down the street and having to walk up the street to get there. Now, this is NOT their fault, but I hope once they've established themselves, they could move to a larger site that offers better parking. The second issue is how your food arrives to the table. There seems to be no order in how it arrives. It's not unusual to order apps, kitchen entrees, and a sushi/sashimi platter, and have your sashimi come first, then your soups, then your apps last. Or any other particular order. It's not a deal breaker, but it's annoying when all of your food sometimes arrives all at once, and the table is way over crowded. Or conversely arrives in dribs and drabs. Not a huge problem, but like I said, the orders could be timed better. As far as "ambience" is concerned, it's ok. It's not what I would call, "romantic" or, "cozy", but it's functional and clean. Maybe not a "first date" place, but anytime after would be fine. The price point is also reasonable. Considering it's "all you can eat", a bill for two, with soda/water for drinks, it runs about $75. But since the quality and variety is so great, it's really a bargain. Highly recommended. It's my "go to" when I go out for sushi. I go at least 1x per week. Well worth it. Try going for lunch or "off hours" if the parking is an issue for you or you don't like crowds. They open at 11am or 12pm so a lunch is not out of the question. read more

One huge down fall is what they do for birthdays, it's extremely disruptive. They shut the lights off, blast happy birthday for a solid two minutes and put flashing lights on. We were greeted instantly and all staff was so nice and welcoming throughout our meal. We started with miso soup and kani salad. Both were very yummy and the miso soup wasn't salty at all. We ordered a few different rolls. I wish I could remember what they were. They were very good and fresh! We also had chicken satay, teriyaki salmon and teriyaki red snapper. All you can eat gives you many options in small portions so you can try a little of everything. You can also order full sushi rolls off this menu as well. Everything is clean, the staff is friendly, attentive, and the gentleman who seems to be the owner is helpful and keeps the atmosphere upbeat. There was a couple celebrating a birthday and the returns dims the lights, plays Happy Birthday over the speakers and has fun laser lights they turn on. This place is great! It's pretty busy so try to come early if possible. The food is a solid 8/10 for me, with the service being the same. Only thing I don't like is that the soda comes in cans meaning no free refills, and $2.50 for a single can of soda is expensive. The breading is light and crisp, they give tempura sauce, the fish tastes fantastic, the only real problem I had there was tat the "special sauce" is wasabi based and I'm allergic to Wasabi. Oh Yelp you've disappointed me again. I guess I shouldn't have expected a top flight experience at an AYCE spot but the rave reviews here and elsewhere on social media had me believing the hype. It's not bad, but not great either. First of all, lunchtime is a bit of a bait & switch - the lunch price does not include everything you'd get at dinner time, but if you want that they'll provide it for an upcharge. Of course, most of the good stuff is only available at the dinner price, for example no sashimi to be had on the lunch menu. I got sucked in and went for the dinner price but in the end much of it felt cheap. The kani salad for example was 90% cucumber, a small helping of fake crab mixed in and the whole thing doused in mayo. Sashimi was small and not the freshest imo, rolls were tasty but lots of rice and not enough filler. Return highly unlikely. read more
