Located in a non-descript strip mall, we pulled up and we were debating whether to stay or not because it looked closed. The open sign was on. The interior was nicer. There is a bar, a sushi bar for the chefs and table seating. They have an extensive menu. We started with a dim sum sampler which you order pan fried or steamed. Lunch specials we had were Pad Thai (which on their menu is spicy so I requested non-spicy), Udon noodles and Beef dish. Good flavor and portion size. Prices were reasonable for lunch. Hubby and I were passing and stopped on a whim for a late lunch. Greeted by a friendly staff and seated by the window. Wild Ginger is a small and simple restaurant situated in a tiny shopping center. Complementary fried wonton chips and duck sauce was immediately placed on the table. Our crispy salads and spinach egg drop soup came shorty after. We ordered a few Rolls and a dinner entree that we were very pleased with. Everything was delicious and fresh. Very happy our food came out steaming hot since temperature is a big deal to me. My only suggestion , be more generous with the rice. Want to thank the staff for excellent service. Really appreciated that you keep the water and napkins coming. We found the Smithtown location far superior to the East Northport . We enjoyed a terrific lunch special with many options. Love that when we sat down they gave us a version of chips with dip. Fried Wonton chips with a ginger dipping sauce, hubby said it's like a sweet duck sauce. My friend and I had plans forever for sushi....we decided to come here. I've been to the other location in Great Neck and knew I liked it...so I figured why not? We were greeted upon arrival and brought to a booth. We need some time to look over the menu as we were going to be sharing a couple of rolls. Our waitress was patient with us. We went with: 1. Red Dragon 2. Chili Roll 3. Crazy Roll 4. Wasabi Roll All were spicy, as that what we were in the mood for. The Wasabi Roll was recommended to us by our waitress when we asked her what other roll is spicy. I don't even remember seeing it on the menu. Each roll was delicious and full of flavor. The rolls were also very fresh tasting. Service was great. We weren't rushed and our waitress continued to check on us to make sure everything was okay. For four rolls the total was $33, which is about $8.25 for each roll. Other places charge around $12-$14 for a roll, so it was a great deal! I will be back! We got take out from here on a Friday evening. I'm not quite sure how to describe the food other than bland and bad. We got some sushi rolls, sesame chicken, chicken lo mein, and chicken dumplings. The dumpling were the best of the worst. Literally nothing was seasoned. The sushi rice tasted of nothing; it was seemingly unseasoned with no vinegar or sugar. The salmon was grayish orange and tasted like nothing as well. It wasn't even fishy it was bizarre. It was like eating just texture. The lo mein was the most despicable of the food. First of all, I understand that none of this is traditional. I know that sesame chicken and lo mein have been Americanized and is a hybrid now. But this lo mein was bizarre and just kind of gross tasting. They used what seemed like fettuccini Italian noodles instead of Asian egg noodles. But again the bizarre thing is it seemed to have no seasoning. Like nothing had any salt. I've never had such under seasoned Asian food in my life. Also, the lo mein had this very unpleasant and unexpected sour flavor that was bordering on spoiled tasting. The sesame chicken sauce was very sweet but the chicken was all cooked fine and it was a generic mid sesame chicken. It was middle America food court quality. If I had this in a mall in Wyoming I'd probably be like "eh considering we are in Wyoming this wasn't that bad". It's like someone opened an Asian fusion restaurant but has never ever tried well made versions of the food on the menu. I also cant imagine this was just an off day. The food was all cooked correctly, the knife cuts of everything seemed standard, even the dumplings seemed hand made. It seems that it is a systemic quality control issue. Even the soy sauce they gave with the sushi rolls was bad. It had an unpleasant alcohol flavor that I've never quite experienced. I can't imagine that soy sauce spoils with all the salt in it but this was not a flavor of soy sauce I've ever experienced. I would not recommend eating here nor will we be patronizing this place again. We didn't even save these leftovers. We threw them out and we never ever throw out leftovers. I wasn't expecting anything mind blowing from this place. But given how long it's been open and how many locations it has, I was expecting it to be decent but it was not. It was mediocre. Actually it was below mediocre. It was straight up bad. I don't know who this food is for but it isn't me. All that being said, the staff was very pleasant when I picked up the food, the restaurant seemed clean and neat with no off smells inside it, and there was plenty of parking. The food was well priced for what it purported to be but overpriced based on the quality. The portions are generous but if it's not good I don't care about a generous portion. There was nothing vibrant about this food. If you told me all of it had been warmed in a microwave and then served to us I'd believe you. Would not recommend currently. Maybe they can turn it around I don't know. I feel bad writing this and I don't normally review restaurants but this was just kind of egregious and was a total let down. read more

The food at Wild Ginger is very good. I have yet to have a bad or even mediocre meal there. The sushi is fresh and delicious. The only reason I am not giving it the full 5* is because, at times, they seem to be out of drinks and desserts. It has happened to us on more than a few occasions. It's a bit disappointing when you have a taste for something specific like Thai tea or Japanese soda or green tea cheesecake and they are sold out. The sushi is ok but I find that all sushi is just ok these days unless you go to Kotobuki. $15 for a 4 pc roll is too expenive. $12 for seaweed salad cause they put lettuce underneath seaweed is a waste cause you want seaweed not lettuce! The Dim Sum sampler looked like a plate of deflated balloons with dipping sauce. The Gen Tso chicken was soggy. My experience was truly abysmal. Firstly, I ordered on DoorDash where it was being advertised as under 25 minute delivery. As you can guess, this was not the case. It took well over an hour with two different dashers to get me my order (also not fair and a waste of time for the first dasher.) An hour for takeout is one thing, but false advertising is a problem. Secondly, they charge an extra .50 for spicy mayo, of which I ordered two. Neither of which arrived. DoorDash refunded me for the missing items, but perhaps don't nickel and dime your customers and then forget to provide the food. Lastly, the roll was gross. Didn't eat more than one. The rice paper was sticking to each other like it had been sitting out for days. Will be ordering from one of the many better sushi options in the area. Don't be tempted by their "short delivery"- better to be told 45 minutes and wait 45 minutes. read more

Wild Ginger opened on 04/27/2012 in a small shopping center on Smithtown Blvd. in Nesconset. I ordered 3 dishes for takeout. The place looked really nice inside while I was paying for my food. Nearly every table was filled. They were offering 25% off everything as part of their grand opening. There was something odd tasting about all 3 dishes, a certain common flavor in all of them that I just couldn't figure out... It's something I don't normally taste in Pan-Asian/Thai food. It wasn't a very good flavor... reminded me of a bad balance of ginger/lime/coconut or something... just odd. Maybe it was a heavy dose of WILD GINGER that I'm just not used to in food flavoring/seasoning? Anyways, here's a review of each dish: 1) Pad Thai w/ chicken: this dish was sub-par, 2-stars. It was bland and had no peanut flavor nor traditional pad thai flavor. I've had pad thai and dozens of different restaurants and this was very different than them all. It boasted the most this peculiar flavor that I can't figure out... the noodle texture was fine but they had a light pink tint to them - maybe this is that flavor I'm looking for!? 2) Udon noodles w/ chicken: Sort of bland as well but a little better than the pad thai. 2.5 stars. Very good noodle texture, but all and all pretty boring dish 3) Thai pepper corn chicken shrimp over brown rice: this dish was the better of the 3 - I give it 3 stars. It had a light kick to it (considered spicy according to their menu but definitely was not very spicy). Dish was served with 3 pieces of big, not jumbo, shrimp and they had the shell on the end of the tail still (annoying to de-shell since they're already mixed in with the dish). It's sort of a pet-peeve of mine when restaurants do not de-shell shrimp for you. The chicken was average and the mushrooms/veggies were okay. Overall I was pretty disappointed in the food flavors. I would give it another try in a few months after they have settled in. I'm a big pan-asian food guy, so maybe I'm just a tough critic? Hate to give Wild Ginger 2-stars but it's true. "Meh. I mentioned that in my first review but the first time I went it was lunch and there's was only one other table filled and it still took a long time.
