I ordered from Wild Ginger tonight and it was terrible for one big concerning reason... food safety and freshness. The tuna in my sushi roll was gray and tasted old. The avocado in the roll turned brown to black and also had a funny taste. On to the seaweed salad. It also tasted old. The greens were brown, the tomato was wrinkled and the cucumber was translucent and mushy. I threw out the whole meal. This place should be shut down from the health department. What was served to me was unacceptable. Might I mention that this is the second time I received old food. Last time I ordered cooked food with rotted broccoli that was yellow and the smell that came from the package was definitely not edible. The place was my go to for years but based on the last two months I will never be ordering from them again. read more

Very surprised this place doesn't have at least a 4 star overall rating. The sushi was very fresh and not filled with rice or other fillers. The lunch special is a great value $12 for 3 rolls which comes with soup or salad. You're also served delicious crunchy noodles with duck sauce for the table. Glad I found this spot, I will definitely be back for the sushi. read more

I stumbled across this place looking for a place to have lunch, since my usual sushi place was closed. Using Yelp I decided to give this place a try and I was not disappointed. I went with a friend and order the sushi sashimi for two, which came with soup and a salad. The ginger in the salad little bit too much enjoyment but the miso soup was very good. The service also comes with a basket of chips and duck sauce, which I never seen at a sushi place before but it was very welcome as it gave us something to munch on while we waited. The dish itself was very well put together, with different types of fish and two special rolls. Well it's not the freshest sushi ever had, it was very good considering how small the place is, and didn't have any weird aftertastes. I was not particularly fond of the two special rolls but they were of high-quality nonetheless. I also wasn't fond of the spicy mayo they had, but their green tea more than made up for it. The decor was a mix of Chinese and Japanese items, but was clean, had lots of open space, and was very comfortable overall. The servers were quick and considerate, always checking to see if we needed more drinks or if anything was wrong with the food. Overall, this was an excellent lunchtime spot and more than sated my craving for sushi. read more

We come here nearly every week, literally dozens of times. Sorry I haven't written a review sooner. Honestly, from the owners to the wait staff to the cashiers, they all seem to be truly nice, down to earth people. This is our numero uno dining spot in Nesconset. This is where we take our family and our friends. Needless to say, the sushi and all the rest of the food is delicious and prepared to your specifications. This is a place that I recommend without hesitation! Thank you, Wild Ginger. read more

Always my go to place! They recently got new chefs, which I was weary about at first. But after trying some of their new options, I'm very pleased. My boyfriend and I love their sushi taco and pizza (even tho it sounds bizarre). The girl at the front is always very sweet and accommodating, they even offered curbside pick up (which they don't usually do) when we weren't comfortable going in since it was crowded. Great place!!! read more

Ordered Wild Ginger Scallion Duck, sauce on the side. Container was overflowing with steamed vegetables, causing the duck to become a steamed rubbery blob. I called to let them know. Instead of trying to make it right, the manager thought blaming me for ordering sauce on the side was the way to go. We'll never order from here again. read more

Ordered sushi to be delivered by grub hub. I ordered the rainbow and Spider-Man roll. The Spider-Man roll was inedible. The topping was mushy and the tempura was undercooked and chewy. After taking it apart and eating the soft shell crab I had to spit it out because of the excessive fishy taste. The second star was for the rainbow roll, it was decent. I'll skip this place next time. read more

Go to place for my sushi, sometimes I'll also order Chinese and it's pretty great. Spring rolls are so good. Love this place!!

Quality has gone for good. Very disappointed with the tuna dumpling appetizer. Shrunk in half. Ordered 5 rolls and my daughter makes better. Had takeout on Saturday night and there were 2 two tops and that includes the owner and friends drinking while his wife was rolling sushi and I heard a comment will save you some wine red and white. Will definitely cross off this place. Another restaurant will be gone soon. read more

Lunch special half off is awesome and delicious! They gave us freshly fried wontons with special duck sauce. When our order came out, our rolls were made perfectly. Not too much rice on the outside. Since Kushi Sushi is not open on Mondays and me and my daughter were craving a light sushi lunch we decided to try wild ginger (hello...local delivery= lazy ladies) I have to say, the delivery took 1 hour and 15 minutes. I called at the 1 hour mark and they said it left so should be right there since they are very close. Still took an additional 15 almost 20 minutes. Way to long. When the kid arrived with the food he was holding the bags all crazy and sideways so all the rolls smashed into one side of the box and the soups leaked out if the side. I mean he was like 16 years old and looked scared to be in the daylight so I guess that was to be expected. The rolls were standard fare- they were good, fresh as they the basic rolls should be. I also ordered shumai which were good. They wonton soup was nasty. really. the wonton wraps were soft overcooked and paper thin so they were breaking apart and became an instant pile of mush in your mouth with a nucleus of strange hard meat possibly from what tasted like what I imagine a camel might taste like. No ginger in sight just WILD. I know I know...it was just wonton soup...but I love wonton soup and its easy peezy to make- mess that up you can mess anything. I will not eat there again simply based on the fact that there are LOTS of sushi places to choose from who are fast and have good soup. Sorry wild ginger, the best part was the cool looking clear bags your delivery came in. read more

Just pulled out, I have never been here before and live locally. We ordered pork and shrimp dumplings which came with a peanut sauce that doesn't go with dumpling and the inside was like horSe meat DISGUSTING. For dinner we shared shrimp pat Thai and red curry chicken. We eat pat Thai often never have I seen PINK pat Thai it was horrible and the shrimps were shiny and slimy. The red curry chicken was chewy and tougher then football leather. We literally want to vomit not to mention service was poor and the menu is HUGE which means too many items for them and they are most likely all crappy. I have to admit I'M NOT A FAN of the newly trending Asian Fusion concept! I mean, what's up with everyone being so afraid to pick a "food genre" and just go with it? Why do Chinese restaurants now have to be synonymous with sushi? Why are Indian restaurants offering Pad Thai on their menus? Even stranger is the invention of Japanese tacos and sushi pizza. I'M NO FOOD PRUDE but I guess I'm an "old school" foodie....create for me what you know, make me what you're great at, and I'll keep coming back again and again. MY RECENT RANT ASIDE, I must admit that my family and I love Wild Ginger! -The Staff is Fast, Efficient, and Friendly! Everytime we come, we are greeted with a warm welcome. The waitstaff is always making recommendations if we seem hesitant on what to order and the kitchen doesn't seem to mind when we ask to modify a dish. -The Smithtown location is always looking to drum up new business so you can find coupons, groupons, and deals all over the internet to try to save some dining dough. -The Menu Offers an Amply Selection from pretty much every region of Asia so there should be something here to suit just about everyones food fetish. -Wild Ginger seems to use higher quality, fresher ingredients and the dishes seem more thoughtfully prepared!. They even offer brown rice as an option (bonus: it isn't dried up and brittle like you're they only one who has asked for it all week) So what are we NOT SO "WILD" ABOUT at Wild Ginger? -In my opinion, the prices are a little on the high side for a casual Chinese/Thai/Indian Restaurant. I love the Fire Wok (Chef Selection Dish); it is by far my favorite dish at Wild Ginger but for $20+ ? We are in Smithtown for heaven sakes, not in the midst of Manhattan :) read more

I came here because I used a groupon. Service is not good. We order sushi dinner, a spicy salmon hand roll, and seas scallops with vegetables. The sushi dinner and spicy salmon hand roll were delicious. The seas scallops were not nasty, and the vegetables were not undercooked. So, I asked the waitress if the cook could cook the dish longer. So she tells me "It is already cooked". So I had to repeat myself that the vegetables were not cooked properly. So she takes it back. We get it back a few minutes later and the vegetable are now burned. So we did not eat it, and when the waitress asked us how the food was, "I told her the sea scallops dish was not good, and it was now burnt". And, I showed her the mushrooms. So, she shows someone else working there, and the person just looks at us. No apology, she doesn't offer another dish, they charged us full price. I would only go there for sushi. I gave it two stars because of the sushi and the atmosphere. The setup was beautiful and the place was clean. The green tea is also good. But, not worth the money and bad service. There is two other sushi places closeby with better service. read more

The fish is delish but I would just change one thing... if a group of us arrive together and sitting together and all ordered at the same time. please make sure to somewhat have our food come out at the same time. first time here and half of the guest already got their food and was already done and the other half didn't...sitting waiting and watching the others eat. while everyone else got their food except for one...she sat there and was like wth really? even though another person who showed up a little late ordered last got her food before my other friend. read more

I've been here a few times, starting from when they first opened. At the beginning, the food was pretty decent, but I feel like they had to change their strategy because they weren't initially a hit. Wild Ginger aims to be an almost pan-Asian sushi restaurant, and the result is basically mediocre everything. The only time I go here is with my friends, usually with me complaining about not going to Kushi Sushi instead, which is only a minute away from this place. They have a gimmicky "half-off sushi" deal that runs most hours of most days, which definitely attracts a lot of people. The deal itself is quite good, but this deal doesn't apply to most special rolls, which makes it a half-hearted attempt at offering competitive prices to me. Instead, all the basic rolls are halved, and at the quality they are served at, it makes sense. Unfortunately, nothing really excels here. Every fish I've tried here, including the salmon, eel, and tuna, are all very forgettable. The white tuna is simply a disappointment. I wouldn't recommend ordering sashimi here because it exposes the quality of the fish too harshly. The special rolls are decent, and they definitely do a good job at presenting everything in a fancier way, but their non-half-off items don't make up for the subpar quality of the half-off ones, because that's what you're probably getting anyway if you're coming here. I wouldn't recommend anything from here if you asked me. I had the rock shrimp once which was pretty decent. Come for the prices, that's really it. read more

My wife and I have been here multiple times, we even took friends and family here. This place is awesome, one of the rare places you can get a tasty authentic meal, or savor an actually good fusion dish, which is hard to come by. Their Pad Thai is delicious, and Indonesian Sambal always terrific. We really love the Thai coconut curry, it's exquisite. They have a lot of great dishes to choose from. Their Indonesian dishes are top shelf. The staff is super friendly, and they have great service. Very caring toward their guests. The interior of Wild Ginger is artful and easy on the eyes. With a soft atmosphere like a balance of casual and formal. You just don't find places like this often! read more

Beware !! Ordered late Friday night Ordering was easy on phone When food came all 3 platter rolls were iced cold even my guest were like. Gross! The spicy tuna was soggy. The shrimp tempura was ice cold and stAil like it was pre made. and the California roll fell apart when you picked it up Called immediately but they were closed Called back next day for refund and they refused. I still have it in my frig I usually don't post. But just wanted my fellow. Take out friends to BEWARE! You can do much better elsewhere read more

This was a beautiful restaurant, which was well kept and staffed. The atmosphere was excellent. My group and I spilt the Dim Sum sampler to start which was amazing, it is clear that their chef knew what he was doing. For dinner we spilt sushi, which was sadly a disappointment. The brown rice that was used was either old or not cooked properly, which subtracted from the high quality fish they used. I am very well versed in sushi and this was clearly not up to par, thus my rating if three stars. I am going to try this restaurant again the next time I am in town because of the quality of the Dim Sum, but will not be ordering sushi again. read more

Let me preface this review by stating that we have eaten here half a dozen times in the past 10 months and really enjoyed it. However something has changed, and not for the better. Tonight we had Pad Thai, pan-pan noodles, and crispy Thai chicken. The pad Thai was chicken low mein! Ugh. Thai crispy chicken wasn't crispy and was bland. The pan-pan noodles tasted like the pad Thai that tasted like low mein. The Vietnamese salad was very good. The miso soup was miso soup. Ice cream.. Chocolate was chocolate flavored slush... Just yuk. I am not sure if ownership has changed, but the cook sure has. Might be best to stick with sushi. read more

9/21/2020- I saw on their website that they were offering half off sushi when you dine-in. When we came in the place was empty which before corona would be taken as a red flag (and we should have see it as one post corona too) but we decided to dine in the empty restaurant. There were fruit flies around our table. The tuna was flavorless. And the cherry on top- there was a hair straight across one of my rolls. I did not ask for another roll I asked for it to be taken off the bill which I'm glad I did because upon receiving the bill at FULL PRICE you could say I was in shock. I pulled up their website and showed her the advertisement and the waitress said they're not honoring that anymore even though it's currently advertised on their website. Learn from me. Go to kushi sushi a few blocks away. read more

Wow. I didn't expect the variety for half priced sushi. I thought they would skimp on the fish but they don't! Don't have to worry about them over stuffing with rice either. And surprisingly, the fish was fresh except the tuna. It looked kind of off too. Of course don't have too high of an expectation because you get what you paid for. I also tried the Thai fried rice with shrimp. 17 medium sized pieces of shrimp. Are you kidding? Either they were going bad or they accidently put too much. It tasted great though but the rice came out in like 5 minutes, which is impossible so it makes me think it was pre-made. I was surprised to see some of the pricing. $8 for an Avocado salad?hmm.. But it was in a bigger bowl. Probably double the amount you get for an order of Avocado salad from other places so it's worth it. Service was nice and fast. Only one sushi chef for 4 tables who ordered around the same time and we all got it quick. However, I don't like that they didn't mention the $2 charge per person for tea so -1. I mean.. it's an Asian cuisine which means tea is always free or should be always free. But I'll be back soon for my sushi craving. read more

Wild Ginger is my favorite local sushi spot. The food is fresh and delicious, and they run a special Sunday through Thursday - "half price sushi." Normally this would set off a red flag...thoughts like "why are they giving it to us for half price, is it old and rotten?" and "if something seems too good to be true, it probably is" definitely entered my mind. But to taste is to believe! Pros: The food is excellent. Period. The half price sushi, it turns out, ISN'T too good to be true, it's one hell of a deal that I'm sure is part of the reason the restaurant is always hopping. My husband and I can go for dinner during the week, each get 3 or 4 sushi rolls, and spend less than we would have on two entrees at the diner. Now that's a deal! The sushi pizza on the appetizer menu is to DIE for. Perfectly light, flaky crust, topped with the freshest fish (I've tried all 3 options: salmon, tuna & yellowtail) and a wonderful spicy mayo. I've yet to find another restaurant that tackles this dish as well as Wild Ginger. In addition to the fresh, delicious sushi, the wait staff is nice and attentive. The dining room decor is chic and modern, and the restaurant overall is clean and inviting... including the bathrooms. I can't wait to go back! Also, they have takeout options for both lunch and dinner at discounted prices...and you can place any takeout order online, quickly and easily! Cons: The restaurant looks very generic from the outside - barely identifiable in a strip mall of stores and restaurants. Some nice, modern signage would fix this teeny tiny problem. But set one foot inside, and I promise you, you won't regret it!! read more

I had ordered fried rice with shrimp. I picked up my order, and found that the rice was extremely greasy, not to mention the shrimps were not de-veined! A shrimps main vein along its back is its DIGESTIVE SYSTEM. Meaning it is filled with sand and FECAL MATTER! How horribly disgusting. This was grotesque, and vile. I am repulsed! This is a complete outrage, what a horror show! As far as I'm concerned, this location has served me literal SHIT! DISGUSTING. When I called to complain, the woman seemed disgusted herself and told me she would "inform the chefs," and giggled. How unprofessional. THEY HAVE "POOP" IN THEIR FOOD! read more

Do NOT order from here. The manager brings out to go orders and doesn't acknowledge any customers who are waiting to pick up their food during the pandemic. I witnessed another gentleman ordered food, came to pick it up and they gave his food to someone else. He politely asked for his money back and she fought him on it, saying just wait. He insisted on his money back and she finally caved. When he asked to make sure if he was refunded, she said "it says void doesn't it? Read". As for our food it was ice cold, we called back asking for a refund and she was down right nasty. Place is filthy, the sushi chefs were not wearing any PPE while making peoples sushi. This is a relatively small place in small shopping strip that's easy to pass by. Upon entering the decor is modern/asian-fusion style and nice, but the seating area is a bit small. We were sat immediately at around 6:45pm on a Thursday. We brought our own bottle of sake after reading another yelper's review mentioning they do not have their liquor license yet. We decided to order several items throughout the menu and share them. Here's what we ate: Tuna Tataki Appetizer: This is a seared tuna appetizer sliced thin and covered with spicy mayo and wasabi sauce. It was very tasty and the cut of tuna was fresh. Duck Pot Stickers: These were steamed gyoza style dumplings stuffed with smokey dark duck meat. They were served with a sweet/savory sauce that resembles western BBQ sauce but with a soy kick. They tasted delicious and were one of the highlights of the meal. Wild Ginger Special Roll: This special roll was very large, and heaping with ingredients. The interior of the roll featured seared ahi tuna with avocado. The exterior had a generous portion of crunchy spicy tuna. It was a treat. Mild Mango Chicken: This was my favorite dish of the evening, a generous portion of grilled chicken, mago, peppers, and water chestnuts in a sweet/savory dark sauce. It was served with white rice. It was a non-stop flavor experience that was really a joy. I'll be tempted by this dish every time I visit this place. The service met expectations with only one small blunder (spilling a small cup of sake). Overall the food was excellent and the price was affordable. We will be returning (often). read more

Came here on a Friday evening. It was a huge plus before we got there that they took reservations. The place was really crowded but not crowded enough that there was any line at the door. They were very under staffed for a weekend. It took a good 15 min before we even got anyone's attention and then he told me to wait two min while he helps another table. This seemed to be a constant through the night with other tables. Food was very good and helped make up for the poor service. Powdered 7 sushi rolls for a large group and every roll was good. If it wasn't for the bad service it would be close to a five start place for a smaller restaurant. I would probably go back but not in a rush... Other sushi places to try. read more
