On Saturday April 11th 2020, there were not many Chinese food places open due to the pandemic. Wild Ginger although in close proximity to our home, we had never tried. We placed an online order totaling $84.50 and proceeded to pick it up ourselves. The online order went through EZ Order Food - ECOMM Flushing NY 11354 and immediately charged my credit card. Upon arriving at Wild Ginger for the pick up, we were informed that three items that we ordered were not available and were substituted. We discussed the matter with the young lady behind the counter, explaining that one of the three substitutions were satisfactory, although the other two were not. She stated that we could get a refund of $15 and it would take a couple of days, which was fine with us. Taking the food home, we were hopeful that we had found a new restaurant to patronize and started to think that maybe we should have tried other dishes on the menu vs a refund. Unfortunately, the refund was the way to go, as none of our family of four was impressed with the food and vowed not to go back. Now back to the credit....... After not receiving a credit or a call, we contacted Wild Ginger three times over the course of three weeks. If we liked the food, we would have dismissed the refund and gone back. Long story short, we finally received a $12 credit, which was $3 less than what was owed to us. Bottom line: WE RATE THE FOOD AS A "D+" AND THE SERVICE A "F". read more

This is a relatively small place in small shopping strip that's easy to pass by. Upon entering the decor is modern/asian-fusion style and nice, but the seating area is a bit small. We were sat immediately at around 6:45pm on a Thursday. We brought our own bottle of sake after reading another yelper's review mentioning they do not have their liquor license yet. We decided to order several items throughout the menu and share them. Here's what we ate: Tuna Tataki Appetizer: This is a seared tuna appetizer sliced thin and covered with spicy mayo and wasabi sauce. It was very tasty and the cut of tuna was fresh. Duck Pot Stickers: These were steamed gyoza style dumplings stuffed with smokey dark duck meat. They were served with a sweet/savory sauce that resembles western BBQ sauce but with a soy kick. They tasted delicious and were one of the highlights of the meal. Wild Ginger Special Roll: This special roll was very large, and heaping with ingredients. The interior of the roll featured seared ahi tuna with avocado. The exterior had a generous portion of crunchy spicy tuna. It was a treat. Mild Mango Chicken: This was my favorite dish of the evening, a generous portion of grilled chicken, mago, peppers, and water chestnuts in a sweet/savory dark sauce. It was served with white rice. It was a non-stop flavor experience that was really a joy. I'll be tempted by this dish every time I visit this place. The service met expectations with only one small blunder (spilling a small cup of sake). Overall the food was excellent and the price was affordable. We will be returning (often). read more

Came here on a Friday evening. It was a huge plus before we got there that they took reservations. The place was really crowded but not crowded enough that there was any line at the door. They were very under staffed for a weekend. It took a good 15 min before we even got anyone's attention and then he told me to wait two min while he helps another table. This seemed to be a constant through the night with other tables. Food was very good and helped make up for the poor service. Powdered 7 sushi rolls for a large group and every roll was good. My girlfriend and I come here often. The food is always freshly made and has amazing taste. We use the Groupon and the many coupons that this place has available. Even without, the food is reasonably priced. The location can be easily missed if you are not paying attention though. Additionally, the restaurant is always busy on the expected nights, which is a good sign. The service, for the most part, is above average, but at times, can be a bit slow or there may be a language barrier when you make a special request. Since Kushi Sushi is not open on Mondays and me and my daughter were craving a light sushi lunch we decided to try wild ginger (hello...local delivery= lazy ladies) I have to say, the delivery took 1 hour and 15 minutes. I called at the 1 hour mark and they said it left so should be right there since they are very close. Still took an additional 15 almost 20 minutes. Way to long. When the kid arrived with the food he was holding the bags all crazy and sideways so all the rolls smashed into one side of the box and the soups leaked out if the side. I mean he was like 16 years old and looked scared to be in the daylight so I guess that was to be expected. The rolls were standard fare- they were good, fresh as they the basic rolls should be. I also ordered shumai which were good. They wonton soup was nasty. really. the wonton wraps were soft overcooked and paper thin so they were breaking apart and became an instant pile of mush in your mouth with a nucleus of strange hard meat possibly from what tasted like what I imagine a camel might taste like. No ginger in sight just WILD. I know I know...it was just wonton soup...but I love wonton soup and its easy peezy to make- mess that up you can mess anything. I will not eat there again simply based on the fact that there are LOTS of sushi places to choose from who are fast and have good soup. I use to go to East Northport location but this is just a mile from my house so I was very excited that it opened as I love their food. As I hoped the food is as good as the other location. Sushi is fresh and the portion is generous. The Salmon tartar appetizer is very good. Have not had much of the cooked food, but others in my party liked it. I have been there three times. As of the last time I was there they did not have their liquor license yet so it was bring your own, which they cork for no fee. The only issue I had, all three times I went is the service (hence the 4 stars). The staff is nice, but they serve the food way to quick. The appetizers, soup/salad and the main course end up on top of each other without a second to breathe, and sometimes they are visibly waiting for you to finish. Combine this with the not nearly as nice decor as the sister store and it gives a diner quality atmosphere. This takes away from the experience and great food, which I hope will change as the place matures. What an awful experience!!! I have been to Wild Ginger before for their sushi, and that was good... But yesterday, I went in for some of their main dishes and it was terrible! First, we tried the spring rolls, which were rock hard and the insides were mushy and bland. I then had the pad thai with tofu, which came out in a weird pink hue. Why was it pink?! Anyway, the tofu was about 10% cooked and the dish actually tasted like fish. I have no idea went wrong, but it was awful. I went home and ate dinner because I had about 1 bite. read more

One of the issues I have with Asian Fusion restaurants is the ability to be all things to all people. Can they carry off the trick of preparing and serving Chinese, Japanese, and Thai dishes equally well? Wild Ginger is hit and miss. We ordered all three types of cuisine and Sushi and the score was 2 dishes pretty good and two dishes sub par. With a 50% batting average you can be a star but in the restaurant business you better be at a 90% hit ratio. We will give it another try and see how it goes. read more

My friends and I came here because we were in dire need for some sushi. The setup of the restaurant is very nice and cozy. I was not feeling their food at all. Sushi was very lackluster and had no taste at all I also ordered duck with pineapple rice and it did not taste good at all. Been to the WG in Commack and the city so we couldn't go wrong here, right? WRONG! Sushi smelled like fish upon arriving in addition to having an eyebrow/eyelash hair on it. Not kidding. My husband reluctantly ate it the sushi; I did not. It was dark colored as well aka old. The Chicken Pad Thai came and it was discolored - had a red tint and we had to send it back and ordered the general tso which was better but nothing to write home about. Would be easy to miss this in a small strip center on Smithtown Blvd. I bought a Groupon in a whim, but we will definitely frequent this gem. every single bite was fantastic. We shared the Tuna dumpling which was a lovely, light fresh bite. I was expecting something with a dough outside but the tuna itself is used as then"wrapper". We did the two special rolls for $24. I had Mars and Miracle. My husband had the Huntington and the Pacific. All of the were unique and yummy. My favorite being the Mars, but really hard to choose. I would HIGHLY recommend this place. I think I've only ate here once and it was on Super Bowl Weekend and I wasn't too thrilled with the service that night (FOOD WAS GREAT) but I'm not going to count that in this review because I think it was just an off night. I've ordered delivery from here many times and this is by far one of the best asian restaurants I've ordered from. I'm vegan so I most of the time get the Vegetarian Sushi dinner and sometimes Vegetable Dumplings and my favorite is the Sweet Potato Fried Roll. The Sushi dinner comes with Miso soup or salad. Everything is always fresh, rich flavors and just as good the next day! The delivery is always fast, they don't charge crazy delivery/service fees (ordering from Grub Hub) and they are pleasant. I love this place for delivery! I often had to stay late out in Hauppauge for work and this was my team's favorite place to order from for dinner. Their grilled salmon salad is my personal favorite.
