It was our first time visiting Tommy's, and we decided to sit in the bar area for drinks and appetizers. Right away, we were impressed by the staff. You could tell they know many of their regulars and have built great relationships with them, which always creates a welcoming atmosphere. Michelle and Laney were our server and bartender for the evening, and both were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our visit. We ordered the Scallops and the Stuffed Mushrooms to share. The scallops were delicious, and the praline bacon added the perfect touch of sweetness. The balsamic whiskey dressing was phenomenal and tied the whole dish together beautifully. The stuffed mushrooms were rich, filling, and packed with flavor. For drinks, I ordered a Dark Horse on tap--a personal favorite that's hard to find at many places. My husband enjoyed an 805. Unfortunately, I didn't snap a photo before we drank! Before leaving, we took home the dessert special: Boston Cream Pie Cheesecake. It was pure heaven in every bite and the perfect ending to the meal. We decided to try Tommy's for our birthday weekend, popular spot for special occasions. It is nicely decorated with a separate bar in front and a couple extra dining rooms off of the main room. Sarah was our server and she was cheerful and very professional. After a couple of recommendations we ordered some favorites. I tried the meatloaf, not a normal pick for me but it was highly recommend. I am happy I did! Juicy and flavorful with crunchy onions on top and a bed of creamy mashed potatoes below. We tried the sweet potato fries for an appetizer and they were delicious. For desert I was treated to their famous bread pudding, in high birthday fashion too. This is a must have when visiting here! My husband did phenomenal suggesting this place for Valentine's Day dinner. Intimate, small, cozy but high end! We ordered coconut shrimp as our appetizer, crispy on the outside and dangerously yummy on the inside! Wish there was a coconut dipping sauce, but still delicious. We both ordered chicken dishes, both were flavorful, filling, and mouthwatering. We scraped our plates clean . To top it off we ordered bread pudding for dessert, we don't even like bread pudding, but we see why it was award winning. It was the best bread pudding we ever had! My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here over Thanksgiving weekend. Everything was perfection! We sat at the bar top even though we made reservations. That is just our preference. The bar was lively. We shared the scallops appetizer to start. It was so delicious and cooked to perfection. The arugula was a nice touch to this dish. For our entrees we each had meatloaf. It was ridiculously delicious. The meat was juicy and flavorful and the crunchy onions were the best topper. For dessert they gave us bread pudding and it was wonderful! Wow! This place is not even close to a 3.5 star restaurant. I travel all over the country for a living and usually want even step inside for anything less than a 4 but decided to trust the recommendations of friends in the area and glad I did. The ambiance, the bar, and the friendliness of the locals give this place a good vibe right out of the gate. Michelle, the bartender, is a pro at making some of the best drinks you'll ever have. She will even tell you her whiskey sour is unmatched, and she's right! I had the New York strip, twice baked potato, and sautéed vegetables at her recommendation, and it was prepared perfectly. My husband and I had a lovely date here last year for our anniversary, so we decided to come for our anniversary again this year. Unfortunately, our meal was not as fantastic as it was last time. Our server was nice, but they seemed short staffed because she took our order really fast and then we saw her pretty infrequently after that. They also didn't ask if we were celebrating anything like they did last time. The food and drinks took a while to come out. To drink, I had the champagne mojito. It was good, but it tasted just like regular mojito, and it was maybe a bit watered down because it wasn't crisp or bubbly like I would expect from a drink with champagne. We shared the Tommy's salad, which they split for us, and it was good and fresh. My husband had the grilled ribeye and it was cooked perfectly for him. The baked potato with lobster and Gouda sauce that comes with it is so delicious and honestly the star of the meal. Unfortunately I was not as lucky with my meal. I had the 8oz bacon wrapped filet and I requested it cooked medium. When it came out, it was a bit dry and clearly a medium well if not almost well done. I didn't see my server so I flagged down the food runner and she took it back for me. It then took over 15 minutes for a new steak to come out. When I cut into the new steak, it was still over, probably a true medium well this time. Additionally, the cut of filet this time was a very stringy and fatty piece, so at that point I almost wished I had the other steak back since they were cooked about the same anyway. When the server checked on the new steak, I told her it was still over but that I was just going to eat it since I was hungry at this point. She apologized and offered us a free bread pudding, which I accepted. The sides with the filet were yummy and flavorful though. While waiting for my new steak I had eaten some of my husband's, so I asked for a box for the rest of my filet. The server took it away to box it up, and when she brought it back she had only boxed up the meat, not the remainder of the potatoes and veggie sides. The bread pudding was good and the sauce with it was delicious, but it would have benefited from some nuts or something to provide a textural element. I been to Tommy's multiple times since I like their twice baked potato with lobster and their bread pudding; however, my last visit was the worst visit I had. The first person who sat us was friendly and got our drink order. Shortly after, she came to the table to introduce us to our server. After that everything went down hill. The server took our order then was MIA for over 30 mins and I had to ask another server to refill our drinks. As we were the only table in the area our server was assigned to. Our order finally came out which we were missing part of. She never came back with the missing part so I asked her to cancel it as we had already been there almost an hour at that point. Once we finished we waited about 20 mins for the server to come back but she didn't. So, I went to the host and asked for our check. That is when she finally came to the table we paid our tab and left. Definitely need to be more attentive to all customers. read more

Trying to make the most of a rare opportunity to celebrate Mother's Day together, we booked brunch at Tommy's. We were a group of seven--a large table but there were larger around us. I don't know if they too had to wait more than an hour for mediocre food that arrived cold or not at all. (One of the orders was wrong and after waiting 15+ minutes right meal, my daughter gave up and left in search of a sandwich). The waitress claimed a new menu had backed up the kitchen--but I think her own mistakes might have been a factor as well. The food is embarrassing. As always, in Visalia, the back of house and management should be embarrassed. The food was abysmally disappointing. The bartender made a well executed set of drinks to start the experience. Service was friendly and attentive. The wings were quickly fired but rubbery, tough to eat, and lacked any texture. It's disgusting to eat wings that have rubbery skin and it's especially horrible to experience rubbery chicken meat. It's too bad because it's a generous portion. The Caesar salad was prepared in a chopped, well presented format but was tough to eat with its lack of flavor. The dressing needs to be revisited. There is anchovy dressing and there is this bland rendition. The mahi mahi was a salt bomb along with the rest of the meal. It was served in an over cooked "risotto" type of rice side that was over salted and had lardons in it. I love bacon, no issue there but it's an odd combo with mahi mahi. Try something more fresh and bright; add some acid to break the richness. Also, back of house needs to work on their risotto execution. The burger was disgustingly prepared. It arrived as a grey salt bomb (asked for medium) that had bacon that was obviously made LONG before service (wouldn't surprise me it it was earlier in the week) and with what appeared to be mass purchased "guacamole". The type of guacamole you buy at a Target or Walmart. It was so salty and gross that I could only eat half of it. I lost my appetite by that time. The highlight of that dish were the fries which were the only thing that had some texture. Wish they would have got the wings that crispy. I am so happy I didn't order the $80 shrimp and lobster pasta. Even with a small lobster tail, I seriously doubt the back of house could muster up a proper meal that is worth an $80 pasta. I know the price of food has gone up but this place is delusional to put something like that on the menu. I'm happy to pay prices like that if the meal was executed properly, plated properly, and had quality ingredients. I will say that the ambiance was delightful along with the decor. Hats off to the person responsible for the front of house vibe. The bartender and my server, Becca, were fantastic. It's not their fault but I'd seek food elsewhere. read more

What a disappointment! Came here for a special event, and the decor was the only thing that stood out. The server was reasonably attentive but skipped some basics like clearing dirty dishes and refilling water regularly. I ordered the blackened NY steak, though I'm not sure what was "blackened" about it. Unfortunately, it didn't matter because it came buried under an obscene mound of BBQ sauce. I suppose I missed the part in the menu where I needed to request "no sauce," but even Denny's knows better than to drown a NY cut. At least the steak was cooked to the right temperature. My wife's ribeye, on the other hand, came piled high with toppings--it honestly looked more like nachos. The wedge salad was just okay--too much dressing and no offer of fresh ground pepper. The bread pudding was good, which was nice, but it wasn't enough to redeem the experience. If you're planning to spend big on dinner, I'd recommend heading to the restaurant around the corner . They don't feel the need to reimagine steak and know how to provide perfect service. read more

Such a pretty little place in downtown Visalia. I have been there twice and both times it was busy, so made sure I had a reservation. It has a nice upscale feel, as it should for the prices. Our server initially took a bit to come and take our drink order, but after that he checked on us regularly. All the food options were tempting, but we opted for sharing the lobster bites for the appetizer, and I got the chicken Marsala for my main. Those lobster bites with the sweet sauce are heavenly. Crispy and light, and the sauce adds nice flavor. I also really enjoyed the chicken Marsala, it came with a lot of sauce (which was great, nice and rich and smooth), and mashed potatoes, though it listed pasta. That was fine though, since I would have preferred those anyway. All in all, a very nice experience that left me full and happy! read more

My family and I have visited many times over the years. We have had some great experiences here and some less than great. The food is always been pretty consistently good. However the service leaves some room for improvement. Our most recent experience being the worst. We made reservations weeks in advance for an intimate dinner celebrating my birthday. When we arrived the restaurant was pretty empty, it was later in the night however they had reservation options for hour later so we thought it would be fine. It was not-we felt very rushed. We ordered our appetizer right away while we looked over the drink menus. We ordered drinks and entrees soon after & while we were eating our chicken lettuce wrap app they closed the bar down & began turning off lights in the other rooms. We had planned on trying a few different cocktails however another drink was not an option. Unfortunately we were also sat near the servers area so we could hear all of their personal conversations & complaints. We were very happy with our entrees & ordered dessert for my birthday before we were done eating because it was obvious they wanted us out of there. We boxed up our food & when the desserts came one of the servers started vacuuming. At this point I was already irritated and that was the last straw. Our server did try to tell her there were still guests eating but it didn't help. We left very unimpressed & honestly unhappy. The food isn't good enough for us to come back at this point. read more

We had a superb dinner here last night. The specialty cocktails are wonderful and we pared them with lobster mac and cheese which was a wonderful starter. Then we moved on to the Prime Rib dinner which was cooked to perfection and had a delicious rub on the outside. We also shared the chicken and shrimp that was so moist and flavorful. The garlic mash is also a stunner.. But those beignets for desert are really incredible. The pastry chef makes them better than New Orleans. Not soggy or fried. Just wonderful. Overcrowded and no personal space between other customers. I ordered the grilled ribeye that was supposed to be medium and was more like rare. I'm sure that was the bulk of the price. Grilled veggies of onions, bell peppers, carrots, and zucchini, twice bake potato with Gouda cheese and a piece of lobster. Weird combo there. Price was over $50 and change.
