Another DJ who was booked for our date actually recommended Chris and I immediately recognized his name from the radio thinking there was no way we could afford this famous DJ. He was super affordable and the packages he offered were comparable to others in the area. We met with Chris in person to go over the event and he was so sweet - we clearly didn't know what we wanted and he was super patient. Chris even gave us some sample timelines of other couples so we had something to copy. Our wedding was at Turf Valley and Chris was familiar with the venue, so he had some really good suggestions - he actually was the reason we extended the reception an extra hour, which we are so glad we did! Chris had 2 conference calls with us where we went through some key songs (father/daughter, first dance, etc.), but we just let him take the reigns on everything else and he absolutely KILLED IT! We used Chris before he had the photo booth and other services, but I'm sure those are top notch as well. I would (and do) recommend Chris to everyone! Anyone getting married or planning another type of party knows how stressful it can be and I didn't have to worry one bit about the music, Chris had it handled and made our day perfect.

But our wedding was a mixed crowd, with older guests that loved old school soul and younger friends that loved pop and anything that equaled a party. In our first meeting, we provided a long list of songs that described our vibe and Shawn said, "Based on what you'd already told me, I would've played these songs anyway." We talked a few weeks before the wedding to discuss the wedding timeline and he requested that we narrow our list to 5 must-plays and he'd do the rest. On the wedding day he definitely delivered. He played slow jam music for dinner, great as background music. For dancing, he mixed songs together perfectly keeping everyone guessing and excited for what song was next, while also packing in as many songs as possible. He played songs that my wife and I love, that we never even thought to put on our original list. We kept thinking, "How did he know to play that song?" And we weren't the only ones. Shawn catered to everyone's interests without sacrificing the mood we desired for the wedding. The guests stayed on the dance floor the ENTIRE night. He also provided sound and mics for the ceremony and generously coordinated ahead of time with our videographer so that he could record the ceremony sound for our wedding video. Ultimately, I can't say enough about how great Shawn was. Music can be the backbone of your wedding day and he achieved a soulful, comfy and classy dinner mood, followed by an awesome, yet family-friendly party on the dance floor. For any occasion, Shawn listens, cares and can deliver based on your preferences. He takes his work seriously and works hard to provide the soundtrack for your day that fits you. They were able to deliver the equipment to us from Annapolis, which is not an easy drive. The wedding was outside, and they brought a bunch of ideas to the table on how to make the most of our rental from them. We rented 2 speakers and 2 subs, and a microphone. We were able to have a technician stay throughout the ceremony so we could use the same speakers for the ceremony and then seamlessly move them under the tent onto our dance floor with the two subs. We were also able to keep the equipment throughout the weekend for the Sunday brunch we had! ADEK was awesome to work with, and we highly recommend them to anyone looking to do an event in the surrounding area!

After spending almost $10k, we experienced a very underwhelming design execution, the use of the…read morewrong color flowers, damaged arrangements, and they did not provide some of the props listed in the contract and paid for. It was an overall lack of professionalism. They were over an hour late to the first (and most) consultations so promised a 10% discount on my entire order. I only mention this because they took the discount back later, after I had already paid the final invoice. During the design consultations, prior to the wedding, I outlined my vision for my day, including color palettes, explicitly stating that I wanted NO pink in the florals - this was even communicated 1 week before to the wedding and is well-documented. I also picked this company because I saw how they created a unique globe centerpiece for another event, on Instagram, and I thought it would be perfect for my travel-themed wedding. Fast forward to our wedding day, and all of my wedding bouquet flowers were made with pink flowers. When I pointed it out to the lead designer named Fri, I was told these flowers were beige, not pink. The photos attached CLEARLY show these were pink flowers. She attempted to add a few white roses to the bridal bouquet last minute, after I complained, but the substantial amount of pink in all the bouquets made it impossible to remove them all without them looking bare - and she had no backup flowers. I was aware of the shortage of the brown-colored roses I wanted, in advance, but what I didn't expect was for her to replace the brown roses with the ONE color I said not to use. This totally RUINED my wedding colors. She could have used any other color flower but she still chose pink and then tried to say it wasn't. The second issue I had was with the reception centerpieces. Upon the room reveal, we walked in only to see all of the globe centerpieces half done and damaged - with the paint peeling and styrofoam falling off. My planner and all the other vendors also noticed how poorly they looked, and were equally disappointed (especially the videographer and photographer who were trying to capture photos of the room). I pointed it out to Fri and she attempted to fix one but they were so bad that there was nothing they could do in the few minutes before the guest were seated. Attached are photos of what my centerpieces looked like vs. what they were supposed to look like. One unsecured centerpiece even fell apart from a guest table during the reception, with the potential to injure those sitting there. The lead designer also admitted she forgot other items listed in my contract and conceded that the centerpieces were damaged in transport. After the wedding, I asked for a full refund on the centerpieces and pink bouquets (about $2,000 in value) and was initially only offered half (though she verbally agreed on my wedding day, in front of several witnesses, that she would refund me for all of the bouquets and globe centerpieces). But she went back on it and told me because we walked down the aisle with the bouquets and took pictures with them I didn't rate a full refund. After going back and forth, she finally said she'd give me a refund on the globes, bouquets and other props she forgot to bring, but not before subtracting the 10% discount (almost $1,000) originally given to me on my ENTIRE event order of $10,000 (already paid for). I told her I understood her wanting to take back the discount on the $2,000 worth of the items that were messed up (this would have been about $200) but she still revoked it on the full $10,000 invoice. So at the end of it all, I only received a partial refund of $1,000. I was devastated with the experience I had on my wedding day. In general, the other decor looked decent, but this was by far my worst wedding vendor. We were so incredibly heartbroken and embarrassed. Fri ignored all my phone calls when I was trying to request a refund. In the emails she did respond to, she was only defensive and unapologetic. At one point I was even told I should be thankful I didn't get charged more because flowers are more expensive post-Covid. They never said sorry for any of it.

With Angie's help, the planning was a breeze, the party was beautiful, and I was relaxed and could enjoy my family and guests. I met with Angie a couple of times before the event to finalize the plans. She developed several decorating and color themes for the decorations for me to choose from and even created beautiful hand-made invitations. She has great relationships with the vendors for tents, tables, chairs, and catering so we got great service and prices. (Zak at Roundz in Crofton gave us an amazing buffet that delighted everyone--including the vegetarians!) On the day of the parties, Angie showed up early to decorate the tables and make sure everything was set up. Angie designed the centerpieces, too. For the family reunion, she used hydrangeas from my garden with green and lavender table cloths. For the open house/birthday party on Sunday, she used huge sunflowers on the tables with yellow and blackstriped table cloths. To top it off, her baker decorated the cake with sunflowers! It looked beautiful under the tent in my yard. She even went to the store later to get more ice and drinks. My family and friends had a wonderful time. Angie is very professional and also easy going so I stayed calm (even with 50 people at my house!) I could tell she had EVERYTHING under control and I didn't have to worry about a thing. We were so delighted with Angie's help, we've asked her to be the cooridnator for my daughter's wedding next spring. I'm sure it will be a great event with Angie's help--I'll post a review on that event, too. I'd recommend AJK events to my friends without hesitation.

Prior to booking, Mary took the time to answer all of my questions and to understand what I was hoping to achieve. She also provided several recommendations such as when to feed the baby, how to keep the baby calm, make-up, studio session timeline, etc. which allowed us to achieve the best-results. There were no surprises! When we arrived, we knew exactly what to expect. Her attention to detail and thorough consultation prior to the actual shoot allowed for an effective and efficient shoot. The shoot: The studio has ample parking and it was easy to access her studio. The session started promptly upon our arrival. She has an extensive selection of props for the shoot and costumes for mommy and baby. I appreciate that she checked in with me throughout the shoot to make sure that I was happy with her outfit selections and color combinations for our baby. Mary was sure to handle our baby with the utmost care and she also had an assistant. As a first-time mom, it can be nerve wrecking to entrust your baby with someone. I even learned a few soothing techniques from Mary that we leverage today. She did an excellent job of coordinating the family portion of the shoot and provided excellent posing guidance. Gallery delivery: It was easy to select photos for editing. We were really happy with our final gallery and the timeliness of the delivery. Mary is talented, pleasant, and professional. We felt great warmth during our session! We enjoyed working with her and had a positive experience from beginning to end!

Our overall maternity shoot with Mary Bosotu Photography was an experience we won't forget, but not in the memorable way we were anticipating. Would not recommend...4/10. Mary Bosotu Photography came highly recommended by a family member so when my first choice was booked solid I reached out for Mary's availability. Her business appealed to me because of her variety of dress offerings and photos of previous clients in her social media page. Her assistant Vivian was amazing and very timely in answering emails. However after paying the initial deposit Mary was harder to reach which I totally understood and gave time before following up. Five days prior to the scheduled photoshoot, late October 2021, I was finally able to speak with Mary on the phone for a consultation. She seemed pleasant enough on the phone and answered all of questions. Fast forward to the day of the maternity shoot we were running about 15 mins behind. I called and texted Mary about 45 mins prior and recieved no answer. Upon pulling up to her home we were unsure where to park so again I called but no answer. We happened to see a woman staring at us from her driveway so we stopped and asked if she was Mary. She stated yes and told us where to go very flatly. The lackluster greeting and non response to calls made me a bit weary but we proceeded anyway. Upon walking into the studio, the ambiance was be off putting. Lights were turned off, untidy bathroom and floor messy with props & flowers that we had to step over to pass. Mary was not very welcoming and seemed to be having a bad day as soon as we entered the studio. Again against our better judgement we tried to be optimistic that things would get better. I tried to remain upbeat, however a mixture of hormones and annoyance left me trying to shake the disappointment off. Long story short(ish)...I had to ask several times for her to change the backdrop and to include props for the different outfit changes. These requests were made due to other photos we liked on her IG page, not arbitrarily. However she seemed impatient and annoyed anytime I spoke or asked for something. Also I was under the impression that I would be able to try on the dresses in her inventory at the time of the shoot but was rudely informed that I could only try on two dresses because she did not want to launder unused dresses. If that's your policy I respect that but would have been nice to mention during our phone consultation! Fast forward to the raw unedited photos being delivered via email. She requested we chose our favorite poses and stated that the photos would be edited and returned. Upon seeing the photos I was sadden to see the frustration in my facial expressions, lack of direction for proper positioning, etc. However I wrote back inquiring about the editing process because I was interested in having some imperfections removed from my belly & curious about the ability to adjust awkward leg positions, if possible. I don't believe she understood the true intent of my question because her response was very defensive and condescending. In response, she recommended that I "review my website or Instagram to get an understanding of how final images look". Are you kidding me?! Without seeing unedited to compare to edited photos, how is that supposed to help me ma'am. At that point I knew she wasn't having a one off bad day but was not capable of communicating effectively, being empathetic, professional or courteous. In order to not further upset myself I chose not to engage with her anymore after receiving the final digital shots. As a first time mom I wanted these keepsake photos to commemorate my pregnancy and to cherish for years to come with my new family. I didn't view the questions I had as too demanding but rather typical for not knowing what to expect. I strongly dislike the way our photos came out for the amount of money spent. Her newborn pics are adorable and appear to be her strong suit. However due to our ordeal we won't be returning or recommending to others. My sincere hope is that our experience is a one off and others have a more pleasant maternity session outcome. Cheers!
