The event was 2 hours the first 30 min the person he sent was trying to set up the social media elements with Max via his cell phone. Then after that was up and running he informed me he ran out of paper and had to go his car to get more. It took him 20 min to get the paper and another 10 minutes to install. So we only got 1 hour use of the equipment during the 2 hour event and you have to pay for a minimum of 3 hours. I sent his three follow up emails requesting a refund he was not professional enough to respond. This is not how to run a business or you will not be in business long.

He also did a great job of coordinating with the live band we had. People were so into his set that they actually left their plates of food on the table and ran straight to the dance floor!! We engaged Night and Day for a private party at a lovely Capitol Hill restaurant (Ninella) and wanted an ensemble that would amplify the elegance we hoped to achieve for our party. Throughout the evening, Night and Day furnished that elegant touch, understated and balanced, and demonstrated why hiring professionals (who know each other and have worked together) makes a real difference. We were treated to vocals from Renée Tannenbaum, who certainly charmed our guests and helped create the atmosphere we hoped to achieve for our friends. I note that Night and Day also rehearsed with one member of our party a song (As Time Goes By) and troubled themselves to get a copy of the song in advance, arranged as our party member intended to sing it. We would recommend Night and Day to others, would certainly engage them again if the occasion arose, and would welcome hearing them perform at one of DC's local venues.

With his help we were able to pull off a lovely ceremony and an awesome reception with ambiance and dancing in spades. Ryan replied promptly to emails and phone calls and was proactive in gathering information that he required. I was extremely picky with the songs that I wanted to be played at our wedding and pretty much chose each song to be played during the event. Ryan was happy to accommodate my requests and offered many valuable suggestions throughout the planning process including song choices, number of songs, song flow, light effects and general flow of the event. We didn't have a designated wedding coordinator though the venue coordinator did act as such on the day of the event. Ryan worked with her to coordinate each step of the day and pulled it all off without any major issues. The minor ones that did arise didn't catch him off guard (like when they brought out dinner before the toasts) and he dealt with them professionally and was able to minimize their effect of the rest of the event. Ryan was a great MC for the event and was enthusiastic and fun without being overbearing. He helped create just the kind of light, fun and friendly atmosphere that we were looking for. He was also vital to managing the flow of day's events like dances, toasts, cake cutting, etc. We literally could not have done it without him. The sound and lighting equipment provided was top notch to say the least. The ceremony was outside and everyone was clearly heard though the secondary speaker system and portable mics. The ceremonial music played though these sounded great as well. The speakers for the reception were quite loud and crisp and could have easily filled a room 10x the size of our rather large reception hall. The best part however was the lighting. Ambient lighting was provided that gave the room a very warm and tasteful glow that evolved as the night went on. The main light rig held a number of lights, lasers and a disco ball that Ryan gradually increased the intensity of as the night went on. By the end of the night (per my request) it was like being in a world class night club or at an arena concert. Overall I would highly recommend Da Vinci Sound and Vision to anyone who is interested in DJ services. I looked into a number of companies and no one came close to offering the same level of value that they did. I can't say what other companies level of customer service is like but as someone who has made a career in the IT and medical customer service field I recognize and appreciate great customer service. Da Vinci Sound and Vision provided truly great customer service.

He brought down extra equipment to facilitate my husband diong a surprise song with his band and helped me organize a surprise percussion piece. I have never seen my family dance that much and couldn't believe he even got crazy Uncle Bob to boogie. He by far exceeded our expectations and we couldn't' be happier with service. There are several rooms available for rent throughout the facility and lots of space for food, décor set up (e.g., balloon arches, 360° photo booth machine/photo booth area, etc.), and games. How Absolute Entertainment almost ruined my wedding…read more So, I should start by saying how I was lured in by the personable phone conversation I had with Gordon Thorn in May. My fiancé and I went to the building in Hanover and were so impressed by his demeanor and sound test. He told us that he had availability for our wedding date and we signed a contract with Absolute the same day! He even gave us a discount because we were both teachers. Then the nightmares started. About two months later, we received a phone call from Gordon notifying us that he was not going to be able to play our reception, but he assured us that he had another DJ who was available. Once again, we drove out to Hanover to hear the other DJ. We got another contract for the same price and were finally content that everything would work out. We were told that we had until August 29th to pay to receive the "pay in full" discount. We sent our check in on August 24th and noticed that it had not been deducted from our account by Sept 1. We called to make sure that they had received our check; they had. Apparently, they were waiting to deposit the check because THE DJ HAD BACKED OUT. ONCE AGAIN, WE WERE WITHOUT A DJ FROM ABSOLUTE. By this point, my ceremony date was fewer than 30 days away. My biggest concern is not that we were without a DJ but that no one from the company had bothered to call us. We called to inquire about our check and were given this information. Absolute told us that they would have the problem resolved by the end of the week. Labor Day weekend came and went with no response from them. I called and left messages last week and received no call backs at all. Finally, this evening, we received a call from them. I have no idea what they wanted. The $1300 check we sent them has long been cancelled. My wedding is in 19 days, and I can't imagine what they could have had to say. This could have been a nightmare. They obviously didn't want my business. Don't give them yours.

We had Chris Uhl DJ our Nov. 11th wedding- seriously, he's as good as DJs get. He had DJ'd a…read morewedding we attended last year, and we knew we just had to have him at ours (we prepared to be teased that we were sweating our friends' style :-) My husband and I have a pretty ecclectic taste in music. We wanted to transition from jazz to modern lounge music at dinner (ala Thievery Corporation), which isn't really all that common at weddings. We also wanted a DJ who could seamlessly transition from typical Top-40s to Colombian music while keeping the dance floor packed, given my husband's many Colombian relatives who were there. I have NEVER been to a wedding where the dance floor remained so packed all night long, and I don't think I'm being biased. Chris took a lot of time to get a feel for our tastes, and more importantly, took note of what we did NOT want (cheesy slow songs and line dances were a no-no for us). He also provided some great suggestions, all of which wound up being hits with the crowd. Chris really kept the party going. He knew just what songs to play, and happened to find a way to interrupt the dancing (for cake cutting, etc) without killing the mood. I can honestly say that none of our friends wanted the night to end- and so many people (friends and family alike) commented that Chris was the best DJ they had ever seen/heard! Chris, if you're reading this, THANK YOU. We are your #1 fans!

Dub C DJs (Andrew) DJ'd my wedding this July, and it was perfect. We got married in a two floor…read morerestaurant and relied on their equipment for the ceremony upstairs, dinner toasts downstairs, and then the reception upstairs. We also planned for an outdoor cocktail hour that had to move indoors because of rain, and Andrew made that shift work in a way we didn't even notice. We had a bunch of specific and not very easygoing requests (eg. please do not play any of these songs, followed by a list of all the classic wedding songs...please play this song right before the processional...please play this song at 10 pm) and a wedding ceremony that didn't follow the traditional format (we had a reading prior to the processional), and Andrew made everything go off seamlessly. He also talked us out of some not so good song ideas. For the reception portion, Andrew kept people of all ages on the dance floor all night. At one point a woman in her 60s said goodbye to me and let me know she had to leave for an early train the next day, and then because of the music Andrew had on she ended up returning to the dance floor for another 30 minutes before leaving. Also we're not Jewish but he played Hava Nagila and everyone danced the Hora and that was pretty great. It's also worth noting that we got married in a venue that had never hosted a full wedding before and none of us were entirely sure how it would go, so a lot of flexibility and a fairly zen presence on Andrew's part made a real difference during the planning process and on our wedding day.

We originally planned on doing a DIY iPhone playlist with rental speakers. After reading great reviews of Dub C DJs, and observing their very reasonable price-point, we opted to choose them as a DJ. During our first call with Andrew, it was clear that he was committed to creating a dance environment that aligns with our vision, and makes us happy. During follow-on planning e-mails (and phone call), Andrew helpfully raised important questions that we hadn't considered. This not only solidified his expertise, but also made us feel more prepared and confident that the dance reception would go off without a hitch

Did I ever see myself as a turnabilist or even interested in turntables? No…read more Are circular objects now very appealing to me? Yes, ever since my first baby scratch, I've been trying to scratch anything in a circular form around me. Not just records, or cds, I'm talking dinner plates and frisbees. This was the best new years resolution I've followed up on: dropping the needle. Most of my dj friends back home are all digital house djs, so turntables are completely new. Most of dj'ing is completely new to me, so I took the intro class. The classes use the Serato Scratch Live software. I arrived early for class my first day, and was allowed to play around with the equipment. I was a rough start cause I had some issues figuring out the screen display, and I was stuck in the Gucci Mane bin for a good twenty minutes. Gucci Mane=worst southern rapper ever, it was distressing. The rest of the set up involves a state of the art mixer and two turntables. Then the skilled instructors took over, and we learned how to scratch, radio dj and beat match. I highly recommend classes with DJ As One. He kinda sounds like a grandfather dj (he's really young actually), with his stories of back in day. All about how they used to drag heavy crates and buy two copies of the same record to mix, and how us kids have it so much better these days with the software. I would recommend the classes to anyone interested in music. As a side note you have to walk through Bach 2 Rock (a music school to get here), be prepared to walk through hallways of high school rock bands complimenting each other on how they sound exactly like Fugazi (eye roll).

I was in a rut. I needed something new to add a little spark to my life. So when I saw that Beat…read moreRefinery was opening on a local blog, I thought it could be just what I need to get out of my funk and get creative. Beat Refinery is a school within a school, located in Bach 2 Rock. They offer a 6 week courses in Intro to DJ for $375, and will have more advanced courses in the future. The classes meet weekly for a couple hours, and you can sign up for additional practice time at a first-come-first serve basis for free if you are taking a class. I had my first class last night, and let me tell you: if you love music and technology--this is something you should try. Each student gets their own DJ set up---which includes computer, turntables, mixer, headphones, and speaker. From what I am told, the equipment is top of the line. The whole class is built around learning Serato Scratch Live, the computer program that allows you to mix, scratch, and beat juggle with the best of them (if you have the skills). The computers are loaded with tunes, and you can also bring in your own music to suit and create you own style. Additionally, the teachers are pro's. My class is taught by DJ As-1 and DJ Stylus Chris, who were both very helpful and energetic in helping us newbies learn the basics. At the end of the 6 week course we are all expected to be able to do a 3-5 minute set and answer some basic questions about the DJ'ing So while I think I have a few song ideas up my sleeve---I still need to work on my DJ name....time to get to my homework.
