    Ginger Cosmo & Lycheetini

Tomatoes is an awesome restaurant located bay front in Margate City, NJ. They have a parking lot behind the restaurant & it was easy to find a spot during the holidays, but this place gets super busy in the summer. Their menu is very eclectic with options ranging from American classics to healthy salads & a full sushi menu as well! Ambiance is fun & energetic with live music & a great bar area that's separate from the main dining room. I had the Ginger Cosmo & the Lycheetini to start off the evening. Both were fabulous, but the Lycheetini is on the sweeter side. The Alex roll was very fresh and flavorful. The Chop Chop was one of my favorite salads recently because their Russian dressing is made in house and super tasty. The star of the evening was the Euro Chicken. The skin was perfectly crispy & the meat was oh so tender. They use Mary's Organic chicken which is another plus & it paired so wonderfully with the truffle mac n cheese & broccolini. I can't wait to go back! Service was stellar too!

This was my first time hearing of Tomatoes. We went on a Saturday night with my girlfriend's family. Our reservations were at 7:00 and we arrived a little early to have a drink at the bar. It was busy (which to me is a good sign) so I'd definitely recommend reservations. It was also a classier restaurant so I would also recommend to dress on the nicer side. I started with a gin dirty martini and she had an espresso martini. The dirty was very good. The espresso was above average, but we've had better and worse. I wasn't really a fan of the martini glasses, but that's nothing to be dissatisfied over. We were seated at a large round table in the middle of the dining floor. There were 7 of us and the seats were spaced out pretty far so we had lots of room at the table. Brittany, our server, was outstanding. She was attentive, friendly, made great suggestions, knowledgeable, and checked in frequently but was not overbearing. The bread was served with whole cloves of roasted garlic in oil! Garlic is my favorite so this made me very happy. We split some appetizers to start - Grilled Baby Spanish Octopus, Ceviche, Burrata. I think the Octopus was phenomenal and the star of the entire meal. Was perfectly grilled, crispy, tender, and the texture was great. The ceviche was fresh and citrusy. I didn't have any of the burrata but all of the food went and everyone had positive things to say about each dish. For dinner we decided to pick a bunch of specialty rolls of sushi to split between everyone. My girlfriend's mom got the flounder special they had that night and loved it. The sushi was all fresh and the presentation looked great. I wasn't able to get a picture before it was picked through. I also had a Pomegranate martini. I enjoyed it and would recommend it if you like sweeter drinks. If not, I would pick something else. My girlfriend had an Aperol Spritz and really liked it. We finished up with some coffee and desserts. Each of the couples split a dessert. My girlfriend's cousin and her fiancé along with me and my girlfriend each split chocolate chip cookies and vanilla ice cream. The cookies were warm and soft, and the ice cream was served in a cookie bowl. My girlfriend's parents split carrot cake. The slice was large and the cake looked delicious. Very enjoyable experience to say the least. Service was great. Sushi was very good as was all of the food. If I do visit again (which is only an IF because I live an hour away - not because I didn't approve) I would definitely order the octopus again. I would order a dinner instead of sushi just to try something else on the menu. Something I was not expecting: as it got later it went from a classy dinner restaurant to almost like a nightclub with a DJ that drew a younger crowd and dancing. We were finishing up with dessert at this time so it didn't bother me but I wouldn't have felt the same if I was still eating dinner.

This restaurant is our go-to in the area. Nothing too fancy that makes it a "special" event type of place, but one you can go to for a casual lunch, or a really nice dinner. We went back for NYE this year and wife got a delicious steak with a brown sauce and mushrooms, cooked perfectly medium. I had a couple special sushi rolls and the lobster bisque. Everything was delightful, and the place was decorated very tastefully for NYE. This is why it's been our go-to. The drinks we had were excellent as well. Both at the table and at the bar.

So! I really had a great experience. I haven't been in 10 years or so, was excited to return (and was my birthday dinner!) The food is spectacular! The service is phenomenal. Really white table cloth type good. I had the cod special, it was phenomenal. So good I couldn't get a picture before I ate it. We also started with the grilled octopus and a rainbow roll..,, both melt in your mouth. Heidi Is a fantastic server. It's super busy and sometimes kids so you need to factor that in but nothing we can do about that. Go to tomatoes!

We love coming to tomato's for the great food and vibes. They have an extensive martini menu and a big bar in the center of the restaurant to enjoy it at. The sushi is fresh and the Kani salad is the best I've ever had with lump crab meat and shaved cucumber. Also, don't skip the ahi tuna on crispy rice appetizer.

We love coming to Tomatoes! Whenever my mom is in town, this is where the wants to eat. The food is always delicious and fresh. We live the wine and martini selections. The service is always in point. And it's always so much fun! Their key lime pie is my favorite of all time! We order it every single time!

Went here based on a friend's recommendation. I don't know how they came up with this…read morerecommendation, but I won't be back, nor recommend it. I've been to several Japanese sushi and seafood buffets before and can say without a doubt, this was the worst. Sushi rolls were mediocre, like supermarket sushi rolls on discount day. I was expecting more. This was the only item that was passable. The Chinese side of it was terrible. Cold seafood, when it's supposed to be hot. Duck that was cold and bony/fat and should have been warm and better tasting. The spare ribs were dry, like hours on the line and everyone avoided it. Soups were bland, and warm. The hot and sour was the worst one I tasted in the last 30 years. No oysters. No crab legs. Desserts were pretty much all frozen and nondescript. I had the chocolate cupmice cream and it was ok. On a positive note, the service was good, as they cleaned off old plates, and refilled drinks when asked. So, bottom line. One star for the food.

I go back once in a while for a special occasion. The servers and hostesses are all very friendly. There's a lot seating available. It has a subtle, low-lit atmosphere. You have to try their tuna crispy rice and shishito pepper appetizers! We get them every time and they are delicious! The wagyu tacos and lobster dumplings are delicious but not as filling. They run out of their uni often, so if they have any left for the night you definitely need to order some. They are pricy but are delivered fresh. They're always sweet and creamy every time. I love their toro hand roll and scallop hand roll. They have A5 Wagyu beef cooked at the table with a hot stone. It's priced per ounce and the cost can add up quickly, but it's a nice treat to try and share with others. The Chilean sea bass miso was rich and well seasoned. This is the best sushi place I've tried in AC so far!

As with most restaurants, some menu items are better than others, and I have a good gauge of what food is worth coming back for now! Hands down it's the Tuna Crispy Rice at $20 for 2 pieces, it's pricy but delicious. The tuna is spicy and topped with a little caviar for the perfect bite of crisped rice & melt in your mouth fish. Next are the Lobster Dumplings at $24 served with squash purse and nori butter. These are so decadent and will make you want to lick the bowl. I also love the Wagyu donburi bowl which is rice topped with braised short rib, onsen tamago, & jus. So rich and satisfying! The scallops $42 and short rib $55 are also very good but are a splurge. If you can get in on Thursday's or Sunday's from 5-6pm, they have a fantastic happy hour. I love that there's tons of variety with their discounted offerings. There are items for non sushi eaters & vegetarians too! I had the spicy Toro tempura roll for $20 and it was my favorite of everything I tried. The salmon crudo $12 was also very tasty with a good amount of salmon roe. The pork katsu sando $12 was pretty good, but it could've used more aioli. The gyudon & unagi don $10 each are both mini rice bowls that were very flavorful with tender pieces of beef (gyudon) or eel. For a drink, I had the Kuro Mule $12 & it was so refreshing & balanced with yuzu and ginger beer. Getting seated took some time despite having a reservation, but overall the service was great and the ambiance is modern & upscale which is perfect for a night out on the town.

I remember I tried to make a resy for the Thursday before LDW, and they were completely booked by 11am. Though, my aunt and uncle's hot tip is to just go snag some seats at the bar. The atmosphere is way more sophisticated than I was imagining- in a great way! Cocktails: we dined here the week of Thanksgiving and I'm still talking about the Farm Shrub Spritz: Lillet Blanc, Seasonal Farm Fruit + White Balsamic Shrub, Prosecco, Mint. I know, I know...it's super interesting combo...but listen- THE BALSAMIC IS THE STAR IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE! Sweet and tangy and perfectly complemented the food we ordered. I don't even remember what J got, but he liked it. LOL For appetizer we went with the burrata which was accompanied by melted plum tomatoes and sweet and roasted long hots, and some toasted bread. I was really not sure how I felt about this pairing but oh my goodness- a party in my mouth! I loved it. I went with the filet as my entree which came with marsala demi glaze, mashed potatoes, and grilled mushroom. Listen, not the best steak I've ever had, but it was very good. The sauce certainly enhanced the experience. J went with the duck. OMG!!!! I don't regret not ordering this, but it was delectable. The duck was so tender, the sun-dried cherry and orange reduction was a perfect sweetness, and I was especially impressed with the sides of bacon braised cabbage and sweet potato and butternut squash galette- aka cheesy sweet potato and butternut squash. To end the night, I got the banana cream pie- because DUH! And J went with the creme brûlée. I'm not going to deduct stars, but the service got extra slow towards the end even though the place completely cleared out. Regardless, I definitely would like to return (off season).
