A year went by and we are back at our favorite "farm" store; Tomato House. Ofcourse we get a full bucket/box of "deer" apples, we see plenty of deer in the Lake Lanier area. But we also come to find that special gift or soda or hot/spicy sauce and let's not forget the multitude of jarred pickles and chutney and fruit preserves and best of all the half sliced Georgia peaches. We did not order from the sandwich shop this time, but we know they are great. Tomato House labeled products are a must to bring home. We are again very happy to stop and shop at the Tomato House. read more

A great tourist attraction; I wouldn't recommend it for locals. It's what you'd want if you're looking for a souvenir on your annual trip outside the Atlanta Perimeter (my hometown). The highlight is the "Country Store" with lots of options for snacks and novelties. read more

Amazing little country store/ produce house. With a whole section of Nic nacks. They have a brand of deli meat I have only seen here. I love the spicy pineapple ham! It's amazing! Absolutely love this place. They would have definitely got a review five stars review. Because it is a five-star store itself is a 10 but there's a woman in there and everyone I know has complained about her she has absolutely no personality short with dark hair works the register. If you haven't stopped here you need to, as long as I have been to Dahlonaga Ga I have never stopped and to my surprise I was introduced to this place and it had everything from A to Z !!!! Garden center, outdoor statues, Groceries of all aspects and a meat counter like you wouldn't believe with meals to go. The staff are friendly and always willing to help you find something. The service at the meat counter is awesome and knowledgeable. Think of an Off the chain General store , it has it all and the shopping will take you into a wow . I wished I had gotten a picture of this place but I didn't, but I know I will be back for its Ambiance and Charm. read more

My wife and I visited Tomato House this last Tuesday for our favorite specialty items: Kringle, brandied peaches and a couple of fantastic huge rib eye steaks. We grilled one of the rib eyes today and my beautiful wife said it was the best steak of her life. I agreed the same. Expensive, but worth every penny. We will be back as is usual. read more

Good food and ambiance, but the one cashier doesn't believe in customer service. Double charged us for a purchase, when we called her out on it she told us we weren't allowed to ever come back. The gift items are sometimes unique, but not worth the worst experience I've ever had in a store. read more

The cashier with the short black and gray hair and glasses is extremely rude. I stepped in the store with a smile and was met with a scowl in return. Pretty typical. I proceeded to get Mountain Fresh Creamery milk and some local honey. I went to check out and the lady just acts inconvenienced and then she aggressively snatched my debit card out of my hand when I was using tap to pay. I've had one too many bad experiences in there now. I always leave so baffled. Do they not want people to come back? Do they not need or like money? I know many people who love the Tomato house. I guess it's just a matter of who you are and who you know? I've lived here 7 years but I'm basically a nobody. I guess you need to be a somebody to be treated well in the tomato house? "I have cameras and tapes" After kicking my family and I out for discussing why the children shouldn't hold items we may or may not be purchasing. We often times let the children hold onto an item of their choosing to be purchased for themselves or by themselves with chores money. One afternoon while letting our TEN (not 3-5 where they're testing the limits of any and every item they have a grasp around) was holding a small animal themed duster. The "owner", some rude lady with negative business education from the tell of the other reviews, comes over and takes it out of his hands WHILE ASKING "are you purchasing this" first off. Keep your damn hands to yourself woman. Secondly, uh yeah actually my wife wanted it because she thought it was cute, a discussion not given to the TEN year old. Of course he says no because why the hell would a ten year old want to buy a tiny dog shaped duster. Then while I'm asking him the details after the fact such as "hey did she ask you for that or simply snatch it from you" he reaffirmed that she did indeed snatch it away without warning. she came over and told us to get the hell out of her store. When I asked for explanation as to the removal of us she refused to discuss it. All the while I am following the decision to kick us out and walking with her towards the front. She stops at the ice cream shop to tell some guy, who looked like he wears that face of embarrassment regularly, that we weren't leaving when she asked us to. To which I of course put my hands up to me and the family behind and state "bro, I asked why we're being removed which she just says I got cameras I got cameras while following her instructions to follow her out so she could make sure we were leaving" and then began to actually laugh and the ice cream man cracked a little. I could tell because he had to look at the floor as he chuckled ever so slightly. So we get my family to the door and I look at her and show her the item I've been holding and asked if I could still purchase the items I picked out. Shocker people, buckle in. OF COURSE SHE WILL LET ME GIVE HER MY MONEY STILL LOL. She rings me up at the counter and while I had the moment away from the kids, who are upset because we were also purchasing sandwiches and baked goods that day after shopping the gift shop side, I nicely told her that "if she has cameras I hope the next time she sees us in here she comes over and looks my wife and my children in the face and apologize for her behavior to the situation and make it right. Typically I don't argue with people just pick up and go because at the end of the day it doesn't matter and we're all just passing bodies. Like I guarantee if I went in there she wouldn't remember me without this review. To throw people out though because you snatched merchandise from a TEN year olds hands and heard his dad ask if you treated him respectfully or disrespectfully and what the differences should have been to make it a respectful interaction. We stopped by here for the first time after a nearby hike. Great hub of not only locally sourced produce but home good items. Things you should know: I. PARKING There's a large private parking lot out front ~ easy II. SERVICE No complaints III. QUALITY Most items are locally sourced but not all. I bought a drink from there for after our hike.. This place was AMAZING!!! A must go to. I bought so many pickled items and fresh produce. The prices were incredibly reasonable and all of the staff was so friendly. I could spend hours in this store looking at all of their incredible items. I purchased their in house products and man, I should have stocked up. The Italian Dressing was delish and I put it on everything, not only salad. When you see anything that says habanero, be prepared for the heat. I'm still not able to finish their pickles. So scrumptious and my mouth is salivating just thinking about it. A true gem to visit and you must purchase anything and everything when you are here. read more

Just way too much to take in. They must have a thousand sauces, a thousand hot sauces, if you can pickle it they have it. Fresh produce, fresh veggies, and a whole meat counter way in the back. Well this place has a lot of really cool goods to choose from. I'm sure it's a "tourist " hot spot and a local staple...but I will NEVER patronize this store again. Most of the employees on the floor and about were VERY friendly but the person at the register was incredibly rude. There was no reason for the attitude or comments and all it did was make me not want to come back. This place has taken more focus off the farmer's market side and more into the tourist trap/junk store every season. You could see and smell rotten tomatoes today as I walked through the door. The refrigerated produce looked nearly as bad. I had hoped for better being a small store. The two women at the checkout seemed put off by having to answer simple questions. Also, remember to bring cash or your debit card they will nail you for an additional fee for using a credit card. If you need pickled goods or meat, the selections is stellar. This was our first trip to Georgia. We were told we had to check this place out. Although we arrived late to the gift shop, we knew we were going to look quick and be out. The older woman became aggressive with getting us out by 5. I watched as she chastised a young mom for not knowing where the register was. (Her daughter was so excited that she had purchased several things with her own money.) We were even locked in and she didn't have the decency to unlock it. She stood there watching me struggle. Then, still angry, we went next door and were greeted with the same lack of hospitality...including the cashier grabbing the bag from the gift shop out of a friend's hand. I would like to give zero stars if it were possible. We have stopped in her a few times over the last few years. The produce is usually fresh and pretty but the store on the other side is very dusty and overpriced. It's mostly just typical tourist trap junk with some cosmetic items we've previously purchased being out of date and rancid. There was no way of knowing until we got home and opened it because the date was a printed code. My almost adult, autistic child loves this place and wanted to stop in to spend some birthday money. We went inside and almost immediately the cashier start announcing very loudly "Yes sir, the cameras are on, the cameras are on. We can see the whole store.". As we walked around the very quiet store, I realized there was no one else in the store but my family of four and the lady behind the counter was making faces at us and flying through the store watching us like a hawk. She made us feel so uncomfortable like we were thieves and were doing something wrong for looking at her dusty items. My husband has been a retail manager for years and my children are very respectful inside of stores. They were raised to look with your eyes and put everything back in its place. After reading many other reviews on numerous sites dating back to 2010, I believe the lady has issues and at the very least needs customer service training. If you want to be made to feel horrible, followed around and have rude comments made over and over about cameras being on then this is the place for you. Maybe they only like the locals that they know personally to shop here. This place left a bad taste and we will most certainly not be returning! read more

Stopped here on the way to Helen. The gift shop is stuffed with toys and souvenirs that are reasonably priced. They sell ice cream and slushees. They have fresh baked cookies which tasted like Pillsbury cookies. Upstairs is a whole floor of Christmas decor. A cute little whimsical place. read more
