We spent a day in Helen on our way home from Murphy, NC. My cousin had read about this place and we thought it sounded interesting so we stopped in. It is a working mill that was established in the 1870s and they still use the original stones to make flour, biscuit mix, cornmeal, grits, and more which I thought was really cool! There are lots of different products from the granary part and then also things like jams, salsas, hot sauces, syrups, and a lot of other things. It's a perfect spot to pick up a unique gift or to bring home something to cook with for yourself. My cousin and I both grabbed a bag of their Grandma's Biscuit and Pancake Mix. It even came with a little biscuit cutter which I thought was a nice touch. I'll have to add a photo and update when I make some biscuits and pancakes! Along with the store having an interesting story and cool products, there's also a really pretty view of the river behind the shop. Also, huge shout out to the nice staff. We got there very close to closing time and they still let us in and allowed us to walk around for a bit which was very kind of them. If you're in the Helen area, you should definitely stop by and check this place out!

Okay, so I didn't realize this was an actual mill! I get there and it's a legit mill! I immediately was impressed. The inside isn't large, but they've got a lot of stuff inside, from jellies to funnel cake mix, oats and biscuit batter. They really have it all. I picked up some oats to make at home. A large bag that hopefully I don't mess up making. They also sell a few other random kitchen items that you probably don't need, but overall the store has a ton of great gifts if you or someone you know is into baking. I'm more into eating the finished product, but it would be fun to try baking these items for sure. From my understand you can stop here and actually see them working on the grains and making things right there at the mill which would be a cool experience. That wasn't happening when I was there, but would love to see that one day. Parking- I would back in because pulling out of that lot into the main road was a little difficult especially if it's a busy time of year. The staff was great and although I haven't made my items yet, I'm very much looking forward to doing so.

This place was so cute! They were adding corn to the mill when we arrived so it was super neat to see the grinding process. I purchased a bag of grits and cornmeal which I cannot wait to try at home. The employees were friendly and helpful.

May 2022 - We stopped by to do some shopping and watch some of the giant fish in the river. Awesome little business! We picked up two bags of gravy mix. I call it "magic dust"! It turns to thick gravy in seconds and is excellent! The staff was very friendly!

I come to this area yearly, but decided to see some other places this year. This place reminded me of my granny's and her home cooked cornbread and biscuits from scratch! This place is rustic and cute, Very friendly, knowledgeable staff, free tasting so don't miss this part, so yummy...I got skooled and you can see the corn meal being grinded, I was simply amazed on the process. The whole spot was scenic and educational, lots of wandering and reading. Of course I did a little bit of shopping. Make sure you got out back to see the dam, fish feeding station, so pretty and relaxing. Tip: Make sure you stop, it's across from the Habersham Winery you can't miss it.

An absolutely wonderful stop to see and old mill and other historic elements of milling. There are a lot of different milled items to choose from as well as preserves, butters, and more. Customer service is a bit lax as there is a staffing shortage in Helen and surrounding areas. A great place to stop on the way out of Helen when headed towards Cleveland.

Much like the "Waters of Lourdes", whenever I'm near Helen, Georgia I'm drawn to this place. There's something about their coarse ground yellow cornmeal that adds depth to my already delicious cornbread. Yes, it has healing powers ... at least on us Southerners.

Definitely worth a stop if you're in Helen! The mill still functions and produces the grains for their products! It's like a step back in time. No plumbing, no a/c, wooden floors. Take a stroll out back and look at the water. Bring your quarters so you can feed the bass in the water below. Great photo-op spot, too!

This is a great place to spend a few hours. Located amongst a few historical places and across from a winery, a perfect place to explore. Nestled against the Chattahoochee River, this place was a great place to see how grain was pummeled back in the day. But wait, they still do it the same way and still use the same power source, the river. It was a good visit and an experience to watch. Staff - helpful and professional Location - plenty of parking and on the river. Prices - seemed ok to me Stop by and grab a bag of grits and pancake mix and have a great dinner.

Unfortunately, that's really the highlight of our visit. We were starving, so we all ordered hearty plates. My daughter ordered chicken strips with okra and corn. I had the same but swapped for mac & cheese and green beans. My husband ordered the roast beef with green beans and mac & cheese. All meals came with a cat head biscuit. The food looked great, but there was zero seasoning in anything. I honestly don't know how you mess up green beans, but somehow it happened. I barely made it through two bites of the chicken just to get something in my stomach. Then I tried the mac & cheese... OMG. I can't even describe the taste--I discreetly spit it into my napkin. Thankfully my daughter shared her okra, which was the only decent thing on my plate. Her "corn" turned out to be creamed corn, which she doesn't like. She thought she ordered regular kernel corn, so she was disappointed. She used enough ketchup to get down two chicken strips. My husband's roast beef was... interesting. It was more like a shredded roast-and-rice casserole. Not sure if that's even a thing, but that's what it resembled. He said it tasted good and ate it all, but even he couldn't touch the mac & cheese. He poured almost an entire salt shaker on his green beans just to make them edible. In the end, the best thing on the table was the cat head biscuit. Again, the staff was absolutely wonderful--truly the saving grace of this place. But as friendly as they are, the food alone isn't enough to bring us back.

We will absolutely be back to see you. The atmosphere was sooooo inviting and welcoming -- the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable and excited to sit down and enjoy a great meal. Now let's talk about the real reason we'll be back... the FOOD. WOW. My nephew and his fiancée were visiting, so we made the drive from Atlanta up to Helen. We were completely indecisive about where to eat, but after reading the menu, we decided to give this place a try. Best decision ever -- because now we officially have a go-to spot in Helen. The steak was the absolute star of my plate -- cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My nephew also ordered the steak, and here's how I knew it was a winner: he normally adds A1 sauce to every steak he eats... but this time? Not a single drop. That alone told me everything I needed to know. Laz said he had the best burger he's ever had, and my nephew's fiancée agreed -- which says a lot! Between the phenomenal service, welcoming atmosphere, and unforgettable food, this place is a must. We will definitely be back every time we visit Helen.
