To the person who comapred them to Papa Johns, I'm calling B.S. Why? You stated you haven't been here in 25 years. They were not open 25 years ago! I worked there in 1998 on C.P.R., and Tom opened just a few years before that in his first location, across from what was the 32nd St Hy Vee, the old one that's torn down that had Kiecks below it. Now that we have that established... The crusts used at Tomasos are correct for each city. So many places serve fake Chicago pizza thinking it's just thick bread. Wrong. Tomasos uses correct cornmeal crust. The meat is quality and supplied locally. The toppings are fresh and not cheapo, and the sauce is quality as well. This is why you pay $25 for a pizza. If you want crap, go pay $11 at some big name garbage franchise. It amazes me how ignorant some people are when it comes to food and value. You can go to Burger King and get your $4 burger if you're in the mood, or you can sit down at a reputable restaurant and pay $9 for something handmade and special. Tomasos is the same. I don't think I could survive if this place was not in existence. I for sure have to get my fix at least once a month. One of the best Detroit Deep Dish pizzas I've ever experienced. The best part is the caramelized cheese on the crust. Always fresh toppings and pizza is piping hot weather it's carry out or dine in. The wings are pretty good and I typically don't do wings. We got pizza here based on the reviews I read. We purchased a Detroit style thick crust and an xtra-thin New York style. Of my four children, only 1 of them would even eat more than two bites. My wife and I ate it, but were expecting much better for the price. The crusts were excellent, but sauce was terrible. If you like a super sweet pizza sauce, then you may like this. I was in the mood for a good New York style pizza last night. My wife ordered a large pepperoni and sausage pizza for take out from Tomaso's last night. Big mistake. We opened up the box, and they had cut the pizza into little 3 inch squares. NY pizza is supposed to be eaten by taking a large slice, and folding it. Folding this pizza would have been impossible even if it was cut right. The crust was not a thin crust, but more like a cracker crust, no chew at all. The sausage was bland, the pepperoni was good, but very sparse. And the cheese, well I couldn't even tell if they put any cheese on this pizza. I have been to the Edgewood Road location quite a few times before they changed their name so I knew what to expect coming in to this joint. The place was a bit shabby but not gross. Smoky, aged and rough but well loved. Simple decor, not trendy or overly hip. You order at the counter, grab drinks, and have seat. They'll let ya know when it's ready and maybe bring it out if they're not busy. This is more like a big city restaurant model than the full service dining experience. The menu is fine an the portions are solid. This is dense, filling pizza. My pie came out pretty undercooked, but I brought it back up and they popped it back in the oven for a few. My girlfriend didn't dig the ash-can environment but she liked the pizza. I would come back here for sure, but I might be more inclined to carry out and that's a bit of a shame. read more

Awful..My husband stopped in and ordered a large thin crust and had 2 beers while waiting. The total was over $32. The pizza was not very large and had no flavor aside from a overwhelming garlic taste. The crust was burnt. Since it was later at night I waited until the next day to message them about their "free if not the best" policy. I waited over a week and messaged again. They said my message wasn't received and it was too late. But they would make a pizza for us at no charge. We declined. Horrible pizza and false policy advertising. We've been coming to this location on and off for the last three to four years. It wasn't until the last visit that I realized how over-priced they are. We ordered a large pizza and a pitcher of beer. The total was well over $50. I've been to similar pizzerias where there are servers that actually service tables, and have left (with tip) for less. The taco pizza that we purchased was the most expensive taco pizza I've ever had and the worst I've ever tasted. I'm not one to complain but this was horrible. Once my boyfriend had said what he thought about it he stole the words right on my mouth. It tasted like a breadstick with some lettuce sprinkled on top. I was so just fast I said something to the front desk people cuz there was no taco sauce there was no refried beans on it. I couldn't understand how they could charge so much that had some cheese on it with very little meat, I I wouldn't have known there was meat on the pizza unless I lifted up the cheese and looked for some it was definitely not by taste. And a few onions mixed in it and a few tomatoes and that was it. The taco chips and lettuce for sparing on the top. When I expressed my concern at the front desk they just brushed me off. Disappointed...not what it used to be. We hadn't visited in maybe 2 years. Ordered a large Detroit Mombo Combo, a past favorite. To say the toppings were skimpy is being generous. If you're from the East Coast you would view this pizza as a round Sicilian pizza - funny thing is when I lived in the East I was never a fan of Sicilian pizza. I am strictly a New York style or Neapolitan style pizza fan. This pizza is hands-down the best Sicilian style pizza I have ever had. I used to go for the Chicago deep dish but a friend had me try the Detroit. I have been a fan ever since. I always use the granulated garlic and ask for extra sauce. So I'm in Cedar for two weeks on business and I've had a chance to try many restaurants in the area. I tried Tomaso's this past Friday. Walked in, ordered a pie to go, and had a beer. So there's a good vibe in here- young kids (mostly) working the line: all very friendly and courteous. The pizza: make sure if you don't have a cutter at home that you have them slice it up. Got the pie back to my hotel and scarfed it down- really good pizza. Not my absolute favorite style, but very good. The sauce was perfect as was the cheese to sauce ratio and quality of toppings. The crust wasn't superb, but I'm pretty picky with crust (what can I say, I worked at a family-owned pizzeria all through high school.) The big drawback (and I almost gave them 3 stars for this) is the price. Holy crap! Really expensive. Almost 25 bucks for a medium pizza... yikes. They are pretty proud of these pies.
