This place really is as good as all the reviews say. I inherited an old VW from my Aunt and know absolutely nothing about cars. I brought the car in here and they took amazing care of it. I always dread going to mechanics but this place was always a pleasure. I never felt ripped off and the car is now in tip top shape! I would absolutely bring any car here in a second. LOVE THEM! read more

I brought my mom's 2003 New Beetle in for a brake fluid flush, coolant flush, oil change, & general overall inspection. My mom doesn't drive much, as she only has 30k miles on her car, but dealership prices keep going up and $500+ for the aforementioned maintenance work cannot be justified on an 11 year old car. Calling for an appointment took 2 voicemail attempts, but by the end of the week my appointment was scheduled. The shop was clean, Ken was very courteous and attentive to my needs. The work was completed in good order, on time, at a fair price that was way less than any dealership quoted me, and without any issues. Given what I experienced, I would feel very comfortable bringing my 2013 Golf R here for any work that it may need in the future. read more

Best guys in the bizz. If you have a german car that you love, and want it to be taken care of correctly, look no future. Tim, Ken and Kevin have been there for me thru all the ups and downs Ive had with my VWs through the years and have saved my butt too many times. If you want work done right, the first time, without the BS and misleading sales pitch, take your car here. read more

I got pulled over because my brake lights were out (thank goodness the nice cop only gave me a warning and not a citation!) so I decided to stop by this shop since I work right across the street. They double checked everything to see what could have gone wrong (wiring, fuse, etc) and they had my car fixed in under an hour! Awesome people here and I highly recommend them! read more

Too bad there isn't a 6/5 stars because they absolutely deserve it. I've owned two VW's so far and have brought both cars to them and they have performed some serious top notch work. The guys know what they're doing and I don't doubt they'll be around for awhile with all the great work they do. Absolutely great, professional shop. I would recommend these guys to anyone that needs work on their VW. I will definitely keep doing business with these guys. read more

I wouldn't want to take my Audi A6 anywhere else. This is the spot! Great customer service. Great explanation of why I'm spending $xxxx.00. I forget his name but the guy at the desk was nice, knowledgeable and even offered to show me the damaged parts they replaced. AND even offered to meet me on their closed day to pick up my car. These guys are great at what they do. They also drop you off at BART. Awesome!!! read more

I dropped in unannounced today with my mk1 vw. My car was at another local shop and to their credit, they recommended TST. Ken and Tim dropped what they were doing and started helping me out with some issues I was having getting the car to run properly. Tim was a wizard and had it diagnosed in about 20 minutes and got me on my way! Needless to say I'll be back again to address other less critical issues on the car. These guys are top notch and live up to the reviews! read more

Great mechanics and a great business. Doing a great job and making the customer happy is the TST bottom line. My car's 'Service Engine Soon' light appeared. I took my car to TST because a friend recommended them. They spent a lot of time identifying the problem and were able to clearly explain what they tested and how they dealt with the problem. I'll be doing business with TST again :) read more

Going to Tomas for my Passat is like spa day and buying a new oufit all at once. I love it here. Tim's been working on VWs since he was about 16, and you can tell he loves what he does. If you care about your VW, bring it here. Whatever you need, from performance tuning to regular maintenance, they do it all. Recommended: full synthetic oil change with a brand spanking new OEM filter. VWs get excellent care here-- it's great to hear about everyone's new project cars and check out the glossy magazine spreads featuring Tomas cars. My baby's more of a sleeper car (short shifter, 17s, coilovers, exhaust, chip, blowoff valve) and the only cosmetics she has are tint and a racing grill, but the guys here appreciate her all the same and give her TLC. I got my new suspension installed here and also have them do the 60k, 90k work. Although it's a trek, it's so worth it. By the way, their shop is in a gated area so you don't have to worry about your car being left out on the street overnight for longer jobs. read more

If I could give these guys 10 stars I definitely would!!! Truly a couple of stand-up guys with a passion for what they do and it shows!! I have been going to Tomas for years now and they make it worth my two hour drive (there and back) to take my car there. They go above and beyond what any other shop would do (fixing random things they find along the way, cleaning up as they go, taking time to make sure everything looks perfect) It's extremely difficult to find an honest, trustworthy place to take your vehicle, and I've found it in TST. Tim & Ken know their sh*t and are the ONLY people I will take my European car to get serviced or modded, including the DEALER!!! Much Love Guys! read more

Let me begin by saying that I don't know shit about cars other than how to drive them. I was referred to Ken at Tomas by a fellow VW owner, but one who is a little more into the "sportiness" aspect than I am. I was a little nervous about going there at first, being a chick who knows nothing about cars, and has no interest in "tuning." My fears were completely unnecessary, as Ken and his team are purely professional, non-judgemental, and I know they aren't taking advantage of me and my ignorance--partly because of my trustworthy friend's referral, and partly because I can just tell. I don't go in often, since I don't drive all that much, but I am happy knowing that when I do need work done, I don't have to flounder around trying to choose a shop. I just call Ken and he gets it done quickly and affordably. He even offered to provide documentation to my extended warranty company when my fuel pump failed--even though he knew I couldn't have him do the work. read more

Tomas Sport Tuning - Auto Repair Near Me - Berkeley, California

Though I'm sad they'll be moving to a better location (Berkeley, 4th St. I think) soon, I have nothing but the best to say about these guys. They can work on dubs that the dealerships don't even know how to work on. Fast, good work, great advice if you ask for it, and fair prices. Everything you want in a mechanic. Having a 5 star mechanic a few blocks away has been great, but they'd still be the only people to work on my VW's if I had to drive a hundred miles. read more

I thought that I reviewed them earlier...but maybe I didn't save it or something. They're a great company. I own a 1973 Super Beetle. I asked around and was referred to them. The person who referred them spoke highly of them and their honest business practices. I experienced it first hand. After dealing with them the one time that I did, I can honestly say that they're very fair and honest. They took me to the BART station after I dropped my car off and picked me up from the BART station when they were finished with my car. They're very busy and hard to get a hold of. Mad props to Ken though. He's very hard working and really nice. Although they're a great company, good luck with getting a hold of them by phone or e-mail. Your best bet would be to stop by and schedule an appointment if you can. I believe that they're popular because there seem to be more people in Berkeley who own older Beetles then any other place in the Bay Area and there are very few people who still work on them locally. Another great place for older Beetle work is The Buggy House in Hayward, California. read more

This place is amazing! I found this place for my mom who needed work on her Audi. She had a great experience here. So when it was my turn to get work done on my Audi I did not hesitate about where to go. I called up TST and made an appointment to drop my car off that day. During the whole process I was kept up to date on the repairs being made. They would call if they had any questions or needed my permission to do anything. The people that work here are very professional and nice. They will answer any question you have no matter how simple it is. They are very honest as well, they will only charge you for the work that they do and wont force you to do repairs that may not be necessary right away. When I am not able to do the work or it is out of my ability, this is the only place I will take my car to. I will recommend this place to anybody with a VW or Audi. They can also do repairs on BMW's as well, they helped my dad diagnose his transmission problems in his BMW. They can do anything and are very qualified. read more

Tim is the Man! and TST is the place to go to get your VW/Audi repaired or tuned up! get your daily driver back on the road or your hot hatch BLAZING round the track or transform that old rusty MK1 into a best in show dreamcar. No nonsense advice. Fair rates. Ethical, intelligent, capable, experienced. With TST, be ready to do it properly or take it somewhere else. I trust Tim and I miss his work now that I live in another state. I had him work on my 4 golfs in the past decade. 3 mk3's and 1 mk2. some were very minor repairs with cost kept to a minimum some were significant elective upgrades all were done professionally. VW's are a labor of love and this shop shows us dubbers real love! As close to perfect as I have experienced! Tim/ Ken and TST, please dont ever change it up -keep the quality high and the prices fair!! Good Luck in the new spot!! The reason everybody sounds like they wanna marry this shop is cause TST does good work and they KNOW in depth what works! If you dont know.. Now you know! read more

Great team I brought my 2001 Golf as the motor light was on. They are working with me to see what is the waranty covering, they are taking all the time investing the problem with no investigation fees. Even when they gave me a quote for the catalytic converter they gave me a quote 200 dollars less than another two VW mechanics. They gladly gave me a ride to my work this morning after i left the car. They are always available when you call them. Great customer experience. I will always do business with these folks. They are the best... I checked AVS very expensive they will quote you on farting if it was possible! I am waiting for my car to be fixed by these guys i do trust them alot. read more

I've been bringing my cars to Tim Tomas, owner of Tomas Sport Tuning, for 16 years. There isn't a better shop or group of folks you could go to for service on your VW / Audi. They do incredible work, they are super friendly, crazy honest, and straight up good folks. My whole family rides VW and we all bring our cars to Tim. They take incredibly good care of you and your car. I've taken all my cars; GTI, Jetta, Touareg, Passat, and Audi A4 to Tim since 1999 - you simply can't find a better mechanic. If you drive a VW or Audi, do yourself and your car a favor - go to Tomas Sport Tuning. Don't be silly and get robbed at the dealer. read more

A while back I Had a problem with my AC thinking it was the lack of freon or possibly the compressor. Took my GTI to my local dealership and got a quote for 2k plus for parts and labor and they still weren't sure what the problem was. I've been wanting to get my car performances tune for a while now but financial constraints have limited me to just springs and rear sway bar. But I thrive best in cool air and o needed my AC fixed pronto, and at a decent price! I finally brought my car to TST and the staff was top notch. You can tell these guys bleed VW and that it's their passion. They had to keep my car a couple days but gave me updates and price quotes on the fly. What was most impressed with was their service and quality of work considering what I paid for. On top of that, they are really nice guys. I'll be coming here for regular maintenance from now on. read more

2000 Audi A6,V8 A/T: ZF 5HP-19FLA I think some people pick and choose on what kind of car they want to work on. And I'm ok with that. I do the same thing in my line of work. I know the Audi Automatic Transmission is probably one of the hardest transmissions to work on. Well the guys here at TomasSportsTuning where pretty good. Customer service (Ken) kept me informed on what was going on. With my car. They did some work. But didn't charge me for it. But I think I still owe them . One thing I wish I done is talk to the mechanic. Pretty soon I'm going to get new struts for my Audi and I will definitely have them do the job. About my transmission problem, I took it over to Wholesale Transmission in Berkeley. Again good people. Said it would take 6 weeks to get to my Audi. But my friend kept telling me about Jasper www.jasperengines.com/ So now I found a place here in Richmond, CA about 5 blocks from where I live and they works with Jasper. I hope the TomasSportsTuning will be doing Jasper work soon. thank you and a nice day read more

In 2014,Tomas Sport Tuning first showed me how capable they were when they told me NOT to buy an R32 that they had done a presale inspection on for me, and THEN pointed me toward a seller they knew who had announced his intention to sell his all-but-new 2004 R32 for only a few thou more. They have since been the only resource to whom I'll take the car for ANY service: oil change, new tire installation and balance, fault message corrections, all-fluids swaps, etc. They had done everything that the previous owner wanted, and his choices were ALL to the point. TT cams, coil-overs, rear interior brace, et al. And then Tim suggested that I consider a set of used forged BBS wheels that were in great shape and about a third of the price of retail. I said "yes," and he was SO right. They changed the character of the car in remarkable ways. Unsprung weight reductions can be remarkable. I absolutely love driving this car, whether at Sears Point HOD events, or just pulling onto I-280 on Sixth Street in San Francisco. My confidence in what Tomas Sport Tuning has done is what gives me such assurance. read more

It blows me away that these guys will do everything from installing a set of tires... to swapping a motor from a Phaeton into your 1981 Rabbit truck. I went in for the former. When I got in the shop, looked around, and saw some of the craziest modified VW's and Audi's I've ever seen, I wondered if I'd gone to the right place for a simple tire swap. To my surprise, the guys there seemed totally nonjudgmental, and were nothing but professional. Good pricing from a crew of dedicated gear heads that are clearly into what they do. I would definitely go back for other work. And if you're into VW's you owe yourself a visit just for the eye-candy factor. read more

My tin box, yes it really is a tin box (1980 Datsun 210) (yes I have the last Datsun on the planet, thanks for pointing that out) was in serious need of a radiator and water pump (still had its orig.) replaced. When my cousin couldn't do it...cheap labor. I then turned to Tim at Tomas who just so happens to be an AWESOME customer at the cafe I work at. I knew instantly that she was in good hands when I called and Ken answered and told me that the tow truck had just dropped her at her destination and that she would be ready shortly. Let's see dropped her off at 3pm on Thursday and picked her up at 10 am on Friday morning. Can't beat that for service! Not to mention Tim did a few more things for me and didn't charge an arm and a leg to do it. Just want to say THANKS guys and keep up the good work....My car is my baby and to know that she is in good hands with you guys makes me feel so much better. Smile. Sara read more

These guys are it! If you own a VW (or Audi or even BMW), look no further! Clean shop. Honest dudes. Reasonable prices. I love them. Having a mechanic you can trust is everything! Tim and his crew fits the bill. I have never one time felt misled, lied to or had anything but a great experience. Follow them on Instagram where you can see tricked out cars and engines and a glimpse into local racing. I have to add....super trustworthy for the ladies. Don't even think twice about being jacked! Honest people at this biz. Fear not! Awesome!!!! read more

I had a very good experience here. Problem diagnosed (fuel pump/filter/sending unit as well as an oil change) and corrected within a 5 day window. I would definitely go back as future issues with my Eurovan arise. "What?!", you respond, "5 days?!" Listen, they fixed an issue that even the dealer couldn't figure out. And remember, this is a finely crafted German vehicle. It takes time and money to keep this beast in the road. read more

Tim is the man. Hes got the god hands of tuning. His speciality of VW's and Audi's is supreme. He laid his hand on the top of my 98 GTi's engine (with 95k miles), revved it a little, nodded a few times and tells me that at about every 100k for VR6 engines a plastic guide needs to be replaced. He could feel the timing chain bring loose but not at eminent danger of the guide breaking. He'll tell you straight up what is needed and what should be done and an approximate price of doing so. He doesn't add extra or give you bogus rates. Also if you want any tuner type gear for your VW or Audi he knows the best combinations that work well and aren't slapped together. read more

First off, these are awesome people, and they do a great job. They're really honest and down-to-earth folks and they seem to really know what they're doing. They don't make up fake problems that they then have to fix, like some other places do. Whne you find mechanics like this, you stick with them! I took half a star off because they NEVER answer the phone - like NEVER ever ever. I even got the receptionist Ken's cell number because he admitted they don't answer the phone, but he rarely answers that either. So, when I need work done, I roll on in and hope for a walk-up, but usually I'm told they're too busy and to come back later. If they do have time, they'll make the fix on the spot, which is nice. But it would be even nicer to be able to call and make an appointment so I don't waste time showing up, leaving, and coming back later every single time. My guess is it would help their business as well! The other half a star I took off because their prices for parts are retail and thus high. Yes, you can bring in your own parts, but who wants to go through that? Fix these two issues and this place would be perfect. read more

After getting burned at LaVere's in Concord ($800 later and my engine and epc lights were still on), I turned to Yelp to help me find the best VW repair shop in the bay and Tomas Sport tuning came up. The best way I can describe Tomas Sport Tuning is honest. I called on Wednesday afternoon and they were able to take me the following morning. They had the car ready by the end of the day. TST fixed five of the six engine codes hoping #6 was byproduct of the first 5 (and it did) in an effort to save me money. Unfortunately, the check engine light came back (#6 strikes again) and they had the part ordered, delivered, and replaced in a couple hours. On top of that they didn't even charge me for labor. When I went to pick it up I told them I was headed off to get it smogged. They warmed the car up and cleared all the engine checks so my car would pass. They even referred me to a great smog place where I'd get get their referral discount! These guys are a real class act and TST is the only place I'll be taking my VW. For the first time in over a year, my car has no engine lights and drives great all thanks to TST. read more

These guys are great! Very flexible, fast (usually able to pick up the car the next day), and they always give it to you straight. They will tell you all the things you _should_ fix, but don't pressure you into making any repairs you can't afford or aren't able to leave the car with them for the time it's going to require. Mind you, it's not the cheapest place you can find around here, but I never felt like they were overcharging me. When I first started going there, I even looked up the parts they replaced, and they never charged me above retail. I gave up the Audi, but if I ever drive another VAG vehicle, I'll definitely be back! read more

I have taken my Golf a couple of times to Tomas for tires and brake fluid change. Tim is an expert mechanic, he's fun to speak with, and he seems to be doing a lot of the work himself. He also very meticulous, which is a plus when you have a brand new car. He was extra careful not to scratch my wheels which is not something you see at your typical tire store, and the price to install the tires was the exact same. Great place that I'd rate 6 stars if I could. read more

Very professional, friendly, and timely. I haven't had any major work done here, just a shock/spring install and alignment, but they were very easy to deal with the entire way through the process. Auto repair can be a frightening prospect. You always wonder, are they gonna F me over and start suggesting replacement/upgrade of parts that have not yet ended their life cycle. Legitimate concerns, but not needed for Ken and Tim at Tomas. These guys are a class act and are deeply rooted in the German car scene, and that passion translates well into their high quality work. So far I have had them drop (install coilovers/springs) on an Audi A3 and very recently my Audi TTS. These guys know the deal, prices are very fair for the level of detail that they produce. There should be no doubts on how good these fellas are! I've taken my 08 GTI here twice this month, once for routine maintenance and another time for a repair for my coilovers. I have had nothing but a positive experience both visits. First visit, the car was only there for about an hour or less, they offered to take us to a local shopping plaza while we waited (took them up on the offer btw). Did the job right, even gave me their opinion on my noisy suspension. Went home knowing that it was money well spent. Second visit, I had them diagnose my front strut noise. This time, took a second vehicle in case I had to leave the car, but this was not the case. Took the car in, they had the front struts out in about an hour and half, got the call and gave them the okay to do the fix. They had the necessary parts ordered and delivered to the shop. They finished the car that afternoon (would have been much sooner since the parts took a while). Prices were more than fair and knowing the guys doing the work made it worth every penny. Car rides awesome and is QUIET! Big thanks to Tim, Ken and Kevin! Hope you guys enjoyed the senorita bread! ;) read more
