I recently got the recessed lights done at my home and the electrician left 16-19 patches/holes in the wall. After taking quotes from several companies we contacted Tom for patch work. He did a decent job and all the patches were repaired in a space of 2 days. He did clean the area after he finished the job. He charges extra for painting so I just got the patch work done and will probably hire a handyman for painting. His charges were reasonable per patch though I hoped it could have been a bit lower but did not have the time to negotiate or reach out to others. I would recommend him. read more

I do my share of home remodeling, but one of things I always hire out is tape and texture of my drywall. When I remodeled my master bath and bedroom 4 years ago I collected many bids that seems way too high., Then I found Tom Flores or Tom Flores Drywall. His family run business gave me my best bid and, to my delight, did excellent work. He was always there when he said he would come. He was able to "float" my ceilings to make them look perfect, to make up for deficiencies in hanging the drywall. He matched texture so well that nobody can see where the old work ended and this new project begins. This past 2 weeks I have been building a half bath in my daughter's home in Richmond, CA. Tom lives in the Evergreen, San Jose area, but he was willing to make the miserable drive to Richmond 4 times to properly complete my small, but challenging, project. I had wrapped a corner with two layers of ¼" sheetrock to make a 3 1/2" radius curve, but was unaware that sheetrock wholesalers sell a flex version of this material. Instead, I scored the sheets I had on 1" spacing to conform to the curve. While Tom explained when he got here that this was the most difficult way to do this, he cheerfully fixed my error, turning my segmented curve into the smoothest looking rounded corner. It was a work of art. And, he did his best to stay to the original bid even though my error brought him back a 4th day. I chose to compensate him a little more than he asked and we were both very happy. I wholeheartedly endorse the work of Tom Flores and his company. read more

Tom did drywall fix and mud for our entire kitchen. Tom is very professional, kind and patient. Though we had some issue during the work (there were many holes popping up after two coats), Tom fixed all of them very quickly by putting an extra coat and made the wall really smooth. Summary: I would not hire him again. Shopped around a bit for drywallers, after having our electrical upgraded in the house. The walls had ~65 holes in them, plus some large strips of drywall removed near the base boards. Tom's quote was a bit high, but I figured with his ratings, it might be worth it. Unfortunately, that's not the experience I've had. Tom has been squeezing me in between other larger projects, and my project is always last priority (or so that's the impression I'm getting). He was a day late getting started than originally planned (setting back our painting schedule), and really did everything in random, small chunks. As I'm writing this, some holes are patched, taped, and he's started floating, while others in the house are still uncovered. He's working solo (save for one day when he hung some ceiling panels), so that explains the slow progress, but why not cover all the holes first, then tape, then float - that way everything is in the same state and progress is much easier to judge? Anyway, his work style is not why I'm rating 2 stars. It bugs me, sure, and it's not the way I'd do it, but so what? He gets 2 stars because he's late, I'm always treated as last priority, always getting bumped when other jobs run long. He's hard to nail down to anything resembling a schedule (basically just shows up when he can). He has left things fairly messy, and on more than one occasion dropped drywall mud on my furniture (good thing I went through after him and noticed). There's dried wall-mud on my hardwood floors (not the end of the world, but if you have carpet, watch out). His original quote was to "fix all holes". The quote was via text message, but then later he shows up and tries to tell me there will be an extra charge because some holes were left open by the electricians. "Fix all holes" means fix all holes. It doesn't mean fix the holes that they covered.. If you're doing an entire room or house, wall to ceiling, Tom may be your guy for that. If you're only doing repairs and you want to be treated like a priority, you might want to look elsewhere. Our painters (who are also doing our door and window trim) seem like a much better crew to work with, so maybe look into having them do your drywall repairs too (especially if you need to paint afterwards). Tom soundproofed an interior wall between two rental units for us in late 2018. He was very responsive, skilled, and trustworthy. Tom came out and gave a quote within one day. He patiently explained the tradeoffs between the different soundproofing approaches we had researched and told us what to expect. One had a high minimum, which for my little job was not worth it. Tom came in $75 cheaper, and did a stellar job. After painting the patch you can't tell where it was. I saw Tom on Yelp with great reviews. Here is another great one. I needed my ceiling patched after some construction. Tom showed up and my wife said, How much to patch the ceiling, remove the late 70's popcorn (540 sq. ft.) and texture the ceiling and paint it. We came to a price on a simple handshake. Tom's word is good. The next day he and his crew showed up and in about 6 hours, all the drywall/popcorn/and texture was done. I've used Tom twice with similar results. He shows up when he says he will, the work is very good, and his prices reasonable. I live in a 55-year-old house that has been added on to and remodeled several times so there are several styles of old and new textures. Despite his warning that it would be hard to match some of the original texture, I can't tell the difference. I had some other texture work done by the sub of a general contractor in a different part of the house. I ended up spending a lot of time touching up that guy's work. Excellent repair on a water damaged ceiling. After getting 3 estimates, Tom's was within reason of the other two. The final decision was based on how he described the work that was to be done. I do a majority of my own remodeling and repairs, in this case I didn't have time. So when he describe the work that was going to be done, I knew he was the right person for the job. We had a company come over to remove existing insulation in the attic and install new insulation. While blowing new insulation one of the folks managed to get his foot through the ceiling at two places creating two ugly holes. After profusely apologizing these folks did what I call an half-ass job of fixing the holes. We are in the process of putting our house on the market and decided to fix the ceiling. After reading the reviews on Tom, we called him. Tom was prompt in returning our call, made an appointment to come over the next morning and in three days time fixed both the holes. He did such an amazing job that it is hard to tell where the holes were. He was professional and did a really clean and classy job. We had Tom installed some new drywall in the kitchen and fixing some drywall holes cut out by electrical works. His quote was high, but we went with him because we liked his previous works, and we also had him paint the walls to match the rest of the house. He was good at responding to all calls, but at the end of the job he didn't do a good job cleaning up after the painting. He used our step ladder to complete his painting job and left the paint drips all over it without cleaning it up. Furthermore, he told us that he couldn't take the garbage with him because he didn't have enough room in his car, and that he would come back to pick them in a few days, but he never came even after we reminded him three or more times. From this experience, we will use other drywall contractors in the future instead of him, and we would not recommend him to others as there are plenty of high quality drywall guys that will do a good job and clean up after their jobs as expected. read more
