I love Tom and Chee. There is nothing left to be desired when it comes to the food. Having said that when you walk up to the order desk and there is an off the clock associate eating a grilled cheese without a uniform on and she looks at me and says 'I'm off the clock, I don't even work today' you sort of just want to walk out. No line, lots of seats. Maybe it's just my lucky day !! Thought I'd keep it simple- The Tom Chee and a bowl of tomato basil. Soup was good, but would have benefitted from a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. The sandwich was sad. Barely toasted, not warm, none of the melty, buttery deliciousness of a homemade grilled cheese. We ordered a take out for lunch on a rainy day and I got the Ham & cheese sandwich and it was delicious! Not greasy as mentioned from previous yelpers. The only reason I gave this a 4 star vs 5 stars is because the creamy tomato basil soup was missing something and I couldn't put my finger on it. This is a cool place to go to get very unique grilled cheese sandwiches! I'm a cheese fanatic so I had to try the grilled cheese donuts. I tried the classic and it was good. It's sweet tasting and piled with cheese. I think you have to acquire that sort of taste to eat it often but I'm glad I tried it! read more

Recently I came in with 7 orders to go for my company. When I went up to the window there were 3 bags and the lady said we were all set. However when I got back to the office I only received 3 of my orders. So I called, and before I could complain the gentleman on the phone offered to re-make the sandwiches and he was having someone deliver them to us. After seeing on Shark Tank I couldn't wait to try this place! Driving downtown wasn't always a possibility with my busy schedule so I was pleasantly surprised to find a location closer to me! My son and I went today (Saturday, around 1) the place wasn't too busy! We both ordered an original grilled cheese and tomato soup, and for dessert were ordered a s'more donut. The staff was friendly and service was quick! I also remember them saying on Shark Tank how affordable it was, they wanted to make sure every family could afford their meals!!? Our total order was $23.00 and we only ordered 1 drink to share! I'm sorry but, NOT WORTH THAT...AT ALL! I believe once the newness is wore out NO ONE will pay that much for a small grilled cheese and a small cup of nasty soup! Our only other complaint was the classic tomato soup, which unfortunately is what my son was looking forward to the most! It smelled great but one taste left us with a very bitter taste! UGGGHHH! We had the chunky tomato soup and the classic and both were horrible, they were super acidic and didn't have much flavor. Was not impressed with the sandwich I ordered. I got the BLT with NO cheese. When it finally arrived it had cheese on it. I waited another ten minutes got my sandwich, opened it up and the bacon was bacon bits for a salad. That was the worst sandwich ever. Sorry to say I am terribly dissppointed in this restaurant. I was just there for lunch today with a friend, got there right at 11:00 and stood outside wondering if the store was even open yet. There is no signage on the front of the building saying what the hours are, and with the sun behind you, the inside just looked dark. We finally go inside and are barely greeted at all by the young man working the counter, and he could barely speak above a mumble even after we deciphered the menu and engaged him. So we order. One Bacon & Bleu, and one mushroom something or other, 1 drink, and 2 cups of soup for $21.00 and some change, went and found our seats, and that's when the real disappointment came. The bacon was chewy, the soup was mediocre at best and luke warm, there was no substance to the sandwiches at all. Needless to say, for $21.00 for a couple grilled cheese sandwiches and soup, we expected a LOT more than we received. What a shame. I'll stick with my Campbell's Tomato, white bread and Kraft Singles and save myself $20.00 ...oh, and of course on the bottom of the receipt...before you receive anything...there's a line for a tip? I've visited this location several times. The food is always good. My overriding complaint is the cleanliness of the dining area. Every time I've been in the store, there is trash on the floor, the chairs are rarely clean, and I've had to search for a clean table. The drink area always has dirty dishes and/or napkins lying around also. It's disappointing - my family really likes the food, but it's difficult to justify eating there when there's so little attention paid to keeping the dining area clean. read more

After settling on a sand which and bowl of soup combo I coughed up over $13 to the cashier. Maybe I'm cheap, but the meal they brought to my table (at least they bring it to you) was less than impressive. For the price I was profoundly disappointed. We visited Tom+Chee for the first time today and unfortunately we had a terrible experience. We stopped for lunch after a very long morning with daughters neurosurgeon, she wanted grilled cheese. The restaurant was filthy with dirty tables, chairs and walls. The staff were unkempt with unshaved faces dirty shirts. After our food was served I witnessed the man in the kitchen rub his nose up over his eye and forehead then proceeded to prepare someone's food without washing his hands and changing his gloves. I saw a total of four males working and rather than cleaning tables etc two of them were in cell phones the whole time, one at the cash register and the other in the kitchen. Needless to say my daughter and I were unable to eat our food. I usually contact companies because ive had a great experience but in this case I feel the need to make someone aware of the lack of concern at this location. read more

Yum! Yum! Yum! I was surprised by some of the negative reviews on here. I picked up three sandwiches and two donuts to go and I'm already plotting my next visit! YUM! Did I say yum? My favorite was the Macaroni and Cheese Grilled Cheese and I added bacon to it. I also really enjoyed the smores donut sandwich. One of the most impressive parts of the meal was that I did not actually eat it for 20 minutes after leaving since I had to make a stop on the way home. The food was still warm and the bread didn't get soggy-wow! They also have gluten free bread. I would have given this place five stars because the service was great and the individual who took my order over the phone was very friendly and patient...however when I entered there was a gentleman in gym shorts and a plain t-shirt who was working the register. Though I wish this local chain the best and I appreciate the all-from-scratch approach, I'm afraid I didn't find the food very appealing. The staff were all very nice if a little young and awkward. Looking at the menu, the standard sandwich recipes seemed composed to be more hip and offbeat than to actually taste good. I can generally find something that I like quite quickly on any restaurant menu, from Indian to Thai to Italian to hometown pizza shop, but here I found myself at a loss. Because I do love cherry peppers, I had the Armagoetta; my companion chose the turkey pesto. No stranger to spicy or weird, I still found the sandwich greasy and spicy, and it sat heavily in my stomach for hours afterward. I'm told the turkey pesto was pretty good. Regarding the soup, I started with the classic tomato, which looked and tasted like a bowl of hot, acidic tomato sauce. I returned it and tried the creamy, which was also overly acidic and not great. My companion had the creamy as well and complained about the acidity before I did. And then there's the price. For two small sandwiches, one bowl and one cup of soup, the total was $24. I'm sure we'll give it another shot sooner or later, but this was not encouraging. read more

We got to Tom+chee and were surprised and a little overwhelmed by the options. The person taking our order didn't offer any input on how to interpret the confusing menu in something that could be simpler. His personality was apathetic at best, but we figured it out, took our number, and proceeded to our table. Of course we were bothered that there was a tip line on the credit card slip! Why? We got our own drinks and cleared our dishes like we would have in any Panera where no tips are solicited. The food arrived quickly. My grilled cheese was tasty, but soggy in certain parts as if it had gotten wet. The classic tomato soup tastes like canned tomato sauce, and had the same consistency. I tasted my husband's, which was the chunky tomato and basil, and it wasn't much better.
